Every time I come here I hope that things have changed. I'm the constantly reminded that the owners/managers don't care about the patrons or the staff. Service: I usually only visit this location on all you can eat wing night (monday). Which one would think is a pretty busy night; however, it's usually only a quarter full. Every time I come they are usually severely understaffed. So the waiters do the best that they can with what they have to work with. I've never experienced bad attitude or terrible personality from the workers towards the patrons; however, if you ask them why they are overworked and understaffed they usually voice their gripes with the management. Management: I honestly feels like the management team hopes that the fact that there isn't another location close by will keep them in business. Last night when I arrived, it was freezing inside. I couldn't even take my coat off to get comfortable. The staff walked around with coats and hats on as well just to keep warm. I asked a waiter was the heat broken and he replied "honestly I think our GM is just cheap and won't turn the heat on." I said, "well maybe we should complain that it's too cold to enjoy our food in here because my teeth are literally chattering and I just want to keep my hands in my pockets to keep warm." He replied, "you wouldn't be the first today, I'm sure you won't be the last and I'm sure the heat still won't get turned on." That was very disheartening to hear. Why would management be ok with running an establishment in this manner. You don't want your patrons to get comfortable and order more food? I don't plan to return to this location for a while. Food: The food here is decent. I only like the wings and cornbread so I get that every time. I get the smoked wings which are smoked then crisped just a little but the best part is the sweet glaze and seasoning they top them with. It's such a burst of flavor. If it didn't have that glaze and seasoning I would stop coming. The cornbread has a honey pecan butter that's to die for. It literally makes the cornbread heavenly. The cornbread itself is fluffy and moist but the butter takes it over the top. read more

Bad experience as soon as I walked in the door. I went with a friend and as soon as we stepped in we felt the uncomfortable warm that doesn't go well with eating hot BBQ. The hostess was a little rude. She asked us "how many" and then disappeared in the back for about 5 minutes before coming back out and taking 2 menus and walking away from us, not saying anything. We looked at each other wondering if we were supposed to follow her because she didn't speak to us. She then came back and flatly told us to follow her and sat us at our table and walked away. We almost left after that alone. The ONLY thing that saved this experience for us for our waitress. I cannot remember her name, but she was a tall, skinny, black woman with short hair. She was amazing and attentive, and very friendly. Our food was pretty good, only complaint was the chicken on the Caesar salad was very very dry. Please fix the AC so your employees can work somewhat uncomfortable. They already have to stand all day, they shouldn't be sweating as well! Probably won't be coming back to this location, will just have to drive the 2 hours to the Woodbridge location like I used to. My visit to Smokey Bones on 2/5/2022 was very POOR. Poor customer service, food, poor drinks. How is this place still open. Then don't talk about the bathrooms that were not cleaned. We asked to speak to the Manager and his priority was carryout. Some of us received what we ordered and majority of our party didn't ever receive food. Most of the food that came out was cold or incorrect. This place is not recommended. read more

If you are planning to come with a large group (20+), go somewhere else. We got our appetizers and the food wasn't bad, but then they "lost" half of our group's entree orders and the other half was almost entirely wrong. Maybe the kitchen was having an off night, but our waitress disappeared for 30 minutes at a time and hardly ever refilled drinks, took plates, or checked on us to resolve issues. To make it up to us, the manager thought it was a good idea to randomly take off half the bill, even though some people's food that came wasn't listed and some that didn't come WAS listed. How were we supposed to figure out who owed what? After 3 and a half hours, we paid what we thought was fair and got out of there. What can I say I'm a glutton for punishment. The service at smokey bones...is THE WORST. But I keep coming back why... smoked wings are so freakin good. You just have to know what to expect when you come here. Then lower that. Anytime you come here expect half of your food being cold, horrible service, good wings... What do I mean when I say horrible service... it ranges from the server with bad attitude to not wanting to come to your table to not getting an appetizer for 30 mins... There are good things about smokey bones... the wings, loaded cheese fries(they will be cold) and.... ahh... that's about it. It is not along my normal route, but it will become one of my top restaurants for the Bowie/Upper Marlboro area. The manager, Peggy, has always been on point supporting her staff and ensuring customers are well taken off. I typically enjoy Smokey Bones, but they can be ccx a bit restrictive with the "no substitution" policy. When you don't have many offerings vegetable wise and you can't substitute broccoli for potato wedges, it borders on ludicrous. I get it, rules and all. But just...please. My wait was 10 to 15 minutes compared to the 35 minute wait at the restaurant next door. The soft pretzels were toasted hard on the outside but so soft on the inside, simply outstanding. REALLY BAD BBQ. I got the 3-meat sampler; wings, brisket & St Louis Ribs. Best thing on the platter was the bread. Wings totally dried out. Brisket tough and dry. Ribs falling off the bone but heavily salted. Salt seems to be the flavor preferred as I had to send a side order of fried green Tomatos back-- way too salty. This is my third and last time ordering from this restaurant. The first time boyfriend ordered and picked up smoked jumbo brown sugar wings and they were good. We ordered again through a meal delivery app. They gave us the wrong food. The app corrected this issue with a refund. Today we ordered the wings again through an app. Again the restaurant gave us the wrong wings. Since the restaurant is not to far we called to explain the problem and come in to exchange the wings for the right ones. The first time I called I was immediately placed on hold for ten minutes. I hung up and called back. I got a young lady who stated the reason they gave us the wrong wings is because they didn't have the brown sugar wings. When I asked if we could exchange them since the my were also burnt, I was put on hold for another ten minutes. I called back and spoke with an extremely rude guy who was very disrespectful and refused to assist me before hanging up. We've ordered take out from this restaurant on a few occasions but this will be my first and last review because we will not be ordering from here again. We always order online for pick up which is convenient but that's where the convenience stops. Every time we go to pick up our food at the designated time, it is NEVER ready! And I promise, every time I or my husband pick up our food, the manager is getting yelled at by a disgruntled customer! This can't be life, like EVERY...TIME? They have to be the slowest restaurant in Bowie. The last time we ordered was last Sat. They informed my husband they were out of brisket after he arrived. Ok fine, he said he will just do the one meat instead of two and for them to fix his bill. The waiter didn't want to update his ticket to reflect the correct price. Ummm what? Who does that? The To-Go situation has ALWAYS been a problem... No one was at the to-go desk. I had to walk to the bar & get help. Some of the waiters & waitress are great but as far as To-Go... It's terrible... I called and no one picked up... then I called back after 10 rings and someone picked up, this was around 1030... they were open. they see you come to the bar no one says anything, a guy is on his phone, manager & Spanish guy I had to get his attention and ask who is bringing my order out and he gets the guy that's on his phone... ask me for my card... I had to ask him how much was it before he gets my card, tells me the total, brings me my order with the wrong food... then brings me my salad with theeee smallest dressing. Coming in to the restaurant a hostess left my family and 15 others standing in the lobby. A few families left due to the lack of acknowledgement by the staff. Many of the staff members kept coming to the front seeing families waiting and turning around. I understand everyone has a role, however, it's basic customer service. The hostess herself kept coming to the stand and walking away ignoring the people waiting to put their names down for seating. Finally, someone spoke up and asked her to take our names before she ran off to do whatever else she was doing. Once our names were on the list, my family and other families were once again ignored for 30-45mins while the hostess kept going to the back, never checking the status of tables. I asked for a manager and it wasn't until the manager came up front that we were all seated at booths that were vacant since we walked in. Our waitress was really good but the food was HORRIBLE and my father, who has a pork allergy, specifically asked for no bacon on his Turkey club and was given bacon. The tables and seats were not cleaned properly and the containers for the sauces were sticky with sauce caked around the top. The food taste was OK. However, 2 out of our 4 meals arrived cold. The worst thing in this restaurant is the cleanliness. Floors, tables, benches are literally sticky and disgusting. Sauce bottles haven't been cleaned in years. I couldn't even use one of the bottles because the dried sauce gummed up the bottle neck. My 4 year old almost threw up in the bathroom because of the smell. Considering that we came there before the dinner rush and the restaurant was nearly empty, I find no excuse for it to be so dirty. I remember when Smokey Bones used to be THE SPOT back in the day! It truly disappointed me to witness their fall from grace during my latest and final visit to the restaurant. I can assure you I will not be back anytime soon. Truly wish I would have read the reviews before entering! I was due to meet an old friend at Smokey Bones for the opportunity to catch up and chow down on some "good" barbecue in the process. I only accomplished one of those things that evening... Upon entering the building the smell of something rancid beat me all about my face and neck. Like what the heck?! Like the stank seriously punched me in my face. I was aghast. Everyone was having a good time nobody was holding their nose so I figured it was just me. Shouldn't a BBQ joint smell heavenly? All I could smell was stale grease traps and disappointment. Anywho, I arrived before my friend and the hostess offers to seat me. I'm like okay whatever. She walks me over to a booth area right next to a large group with a baby. I don't want to sit there because I know it will be noisy and I will likely get bad service if I have to sit in the same area as a group of 10. I point to a table further away and I ask if I can sit there she tells me no because there is no server assigned to the area. I point to another table...she says the same thing...another...I get the same response. Finally, she says "Um, is there a reason you don't like this table?!" I roll my eyes and sit down. It was Sunday and I had just come from church... My friend arrives, I ask her if she can smell the smell. She describes it as "dirty mop" or "dirty rag." After a while we forget about the smell (which I thought would be IMPOSSIBLE). I go to open the menu and it come apart with a "RRRRRRIIIIIIIIPPPPPPP". It was completely stuck together. The inside was all sticky and gross. I cringe and get that "omg your gonna die right now" feeling. My friend laughs but is also disgusted. The restaurant isn't terribly busy at this point. We order simple dishes which take FOREVER to come out. The football game is on and more people trickle in over the next half hour. I get chicken tenders and fries and my friend gets loaded nachos. Both come to the table cold. My fries were pretty much inedible. I go to pour some BBQ sauce on a tender and my hand adheres to the bottle. I squeal in disgust! I've pretty much lost my appetite by now. We eat some anyway because the server is busy and we don't feel like another wait. She was nice and trying really hard, but the place seemed under staffed. Meanwhile the previous large group of people seated next to us gets up and another large group of 7 with a baby sits down. *eye roll* We decided to get dessert, but only because we didn't eat much of our entrees and we wanted to keep talking. Before I order the hot donuts I ask if they are supposed to be served hot. She says yes. I mention our food came to the table cold. She apologized and told me the donuts would be hot. They were, however the dish was supposed to come with chocolate sauce and raspberry sauce. Only the raspberry sauce made it to the plate. I don't eat raspberries so I ask her if the chocolate sauce will be coming out. She informs me that she "couldn't find" the chocolate sauce because she was trying to get my donuts to come out hot. Okay...well I guess I can understand it if you had to sacrifice my chocolate sauce to the food heat gods... Neither my friend nor I finished our entrees. It just wasn't good in my opinion.
