Alli Hill at Best Things Georgia ranks this 3/10 BBQ restaurants in the state, so I decided to make a dinnertime stop here en route from Nashville to Atlanta. Alpharetta is charming, and full of popular restaurants, so parking was predictably nightmarish (there is a public ramp, but I never saw a sign to this effect). But it's worth the effort. The restaurant is, in keeping with its setting near the town center, upscale, and the service was excellent (thanks, John). I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, which came lightly sauced, a side of corn pudding, a slice of homemade key lime pie, and a refillable soda (Coke products). The bill came to $20.42 plus tip. All three items were top-notch; indeed, on a return visit I would ask for the sauce on the side because it only serves to conceal the otherwise smoky flavor of the meat. So, very good 'cue in an attractive setting. Alpharetta is well worth a visit. read more

We were greeted right away and seated upon arrival for Saturday lunch! Our waitress gave us a great run down of the menu and even provided us with a sample of the Mac and cheese! We ordered the Mojo wings for an appetizer and they had a great flavor! Smokey and crispy with an excellent sauce! We ordered a 1/2 slab of the Memphis ribs along with a sampler bbq plate. Finally tried Smokejack for dinner. Best meal of the night was brisket sandwich (1/2 lean 1/2 fatty) with spicy bbq sauce on texas toast & "jacked up" - meaning added pickled onions, jalapeños & cheese. Absolutely fabulous! Enjoyed the greens as a side & loved the habanero vinegar that was offered to go with them. I love a place that knows spicy vinegar is a must on greens! Pulled chicken was good. Burnt ends had a nice smoky flavor, but not my favorite. Pulled pork nachos were yummy. We were too full for dessert. Spicy sauce & the mustard sauce were both excellent. Basic sauce was just ok. Stopped by Smokejack BBQ today for lunch. It was my first time here & I was not disappointed! Was seated quickly, as they have plenty of space in the restaurant, and the server greeted my party almost immediately. My table ordered the brisket sandwich, Pulled Pork Sandwich, collard greens, Mac & cheese, fries, and banana pudding. Everything was delicious! Customer service was outstanding as well. Blackberry moonshine on the rocks - My first question is always "Whats the sweetest drink on the menu" The waitress said this was one of the sweetest drinks on the cocktail list. I was skeptical because of the moonshine but this drink was actually really good. It does give sneak up on you vibes. Flippin good - Memphis ribs and the brisket (fatty) with fries and cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was a bit spicy. The ribs and brisket were good. I was torn between a 4 and a 5. It's not the best BBQ in the city, but it's up there. It's sneaky good. I'll be honest, the first two times I went I was like...meh. But the more I try other BBQ in town, and compare to SmokeJack, this place keeps coming up near the top. Meat for meat...it's solid. And they do chicken with Alabama white sauce really well! Located in downtown Alpharetta, parking as always can be...well...challenging. That said, get there at 11:30a to beat the crowds and you are good to go. The spot is typical BBQ casual ambiance. Casual with wooden tables and chairs. You get the point. Service is friendly and prices are on par with everything else nowadays. Expect to spend $15+ for a solid lunch. I recommend the chicken with white sauce (bone-in or chopped on a bun). Sides are all very good. I also like their smoked sausage. It isn't my favorite sausage of all time, but it's very good. I'm a big fan of downtown Alpharetta even though I live in Brookhaven. SmokeJack is probably my number 1 spot for a lunch meetup when in the area, and friends are always pleased with the choice. Honestly I was pretty shocked at how awesome this was. I guess my previous experience told me if a place has a very nice inside and seems like a somewhat upper end place, the BBQ will be just ok. It's those hole in the wall, road side stands, and places in the middle of nowhere that serve the good BBQ. One trip here any my mind was changed from all of that. I got the triple B Burger. It had a certified angus beef patty, smoked brisket, bacon, and served with horseradish mayo and spicy BBQ sauce. Man it was the most perfect burger and the best and most flavorful bite. What was really impressive was how each individual component was so incredible. Brisket was so tender and juicy. The patty was cooked perfectly and was incredibly flavorful. I have to know where they got the bacon from. It was thick, was cooked perfectly, had incredible flavor, and was just perfect balance of meat and fat. Combine all of that with two wonderful sauces and a perfect bun and this was one of the best burgers in town. A great steal at just $14 for all of that. My partner got some burnt ends and I got to try one. It was enough for me to say you cannot go wrong with anything you order here. They obviously do a great job and hit near perfection on their items. I really want to come back. They have daily specials and a wonderful drink menu that includes whiskey flights. This place never disappoints time after time after time!! I highly recommend Smokejack BBQ for lunch and/or dinner. My husband and I reside in Alpharetta about five minutes from Smokejack. (in a car) Smokejack is located in downtown Alpharetta (if you're familiar with the area). The first time I had SmokeJack was probably a year after they opened and we have been coming here ever since. I don't know of too many BBQ places in Alpharetta. I always order "from the smoker" either the beef brisket, marbled, or burnt ends with collard greens, baked beans, or mac & cheese and whichever meat I don't choose I always get a side portion of. For me it's always enough for me to take some home and enjoy later on not so much as a meal, but maybe a snack. The meat is always tender and juicy, which is why I always get them both when I sit down in the restaurant (which I highly recommend). The last time we did eat here (about two weeks ago) my husband ordered from the "Mojo combos" #3 with the burnt ends, and his ribs were a little dry this time around. We love the spicy BBQ sauce (they do not keep that on the table so you have to ask for it). Even our 7 year old son (mister picky pants) loves eating here. He almost always opts for the chicken tenders and fries but will always want to eat off our plate. The customer service is superb, and the food turnaround time is even better. You wait an average 15 minutes or less for your food to come out. All of the servers are friendly and what's even better is that if you choose not to sit down inside the restaurant, you can actually order from their to go window . Which also doubles as a drinking window (for us adults). Not to mention the drinks are deeeelish! There is not much more that I could say about this place at this point. It was nice enough to sit on the patio or outside but our family of six decided to go inside in order to make sure our 4 year old didn't run away. The pork sammich was good. I love the cucumber salad - perfectly tangy. The Mac n cheese was gourmet - my 4 year old couldn't eat a whole bowl (kids Mac n cheese). Went to get my car washed today and I was I was walking towards my usual lunch spot I noticed it was closed so I decided to give smoked jack BBQ shot. I walked by this establishment several times and noticed that it was very neat. Very clean not exactly what I would consider to be your typical barbecue joint, but I said hey why not . My first issue was with the menu, it's a breitl wall menu, but the description of some of the choices left me scratching my head. BBQ menu should be straightforward if the foods good, there's no need to be cute! I ended up ordering the brisket sandwich with cowboy beans as a side. I was offered the choice of lean fatty or combination of the two for my sandwich. I chose Lee, I really don't like fatty brisket when I cook my light trim it very close because I like a nice lean cut. Oh, what I received was a sandwich made of two pieces of Texas toast with some of the fattest brisket I've ever seen in fact look at the pictures. The sandwich was mostly fat. The cowboy beans tasted like basically a pinto beans too. It had a nice flavor to it, but it was not very well season . The best part of the meal was the Texas toast and the three pickle slices that they added as garnish. Other than that I was definitely not impressed! This is not a place at this point in time that I will choose to return to! If you're looking for a great barbecue, I would say find another spot! read more

I was pleasantly greeted by the hostess and directed to the "To-go station" upon arrival. I appreciated their level of organization and efficiency. My order was ready on time and it was absolutely delicious. This is some of the best bbq I've ever had. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing and the mac and cheese was rich and creamy. Another great find in Downtown Alpharetta! Our server was amazing. He was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and had great suggestions. We ordered the fried pickles...some of the best I've ever had so if you're thinking of getting them...that's a yes! The fields of green salad was also surprisingly fresh and delicious. Updating my review here as I recently booked Jack's Attic for an adult birthday party. The process was seamless and they were good about allowing you in to check out the facility for your needs. I emailed and most of the communication before booking was through email. I also stopped by and talked to someone and toured the space. The rest was done online including paying a deposit to reserve the space. I was also allowed to come test the audio equipment, which includes a TV/DVD and cable so we could watch the game during my event. You get the room for 4 hours. Most of my guests did not know Jack's Attic existed, but it is upstairs in the back of the restaurant. It is completely cut off from the rest of the restaurant and pretty soundproof. There are rounds tables and a dedicated bar, which was probably the best part. You can rent linens from them are allowed in 90 minutes prior to the event to set up. The food is excellent of course and there is variety in packages and options to choose from. There is a cake cutting fee that is waived if you buy one of their desserts. The staff was awesome the night of the event, and we ran over a little bit after closing, and it was no big deal. I highly recommend for a private sit down event! read more

Smokejack has been on my mind for quite a while, ever since my child brought some leftovers from here and I thought the turkey and mac and cheese were pretty good. So one night after hitting up the Avalon, we decided to swing by for a meal. The ambiance has kind of a country-type feel to it. It surprised me being in downtown chic Alpharetta. My boyfriend ordered the beef brisket sandwich, and I ordered the chicken sandwich. I am all about the condiments, and I had difficulty finding one that really complimented the sandwich. The chicken was good, smoked flavor. My bf actually ate his bread! I was shocked. He always tries to avoid most carbs, especially bread but he chowed down that Texas toast. I didn't even finish my sandwich, maybe half of it. We both ordered mashed sweet potatoes which were decent. I loved the little containers they came in. I guess I was expecting better, but maybe it's what I got, and then again, the sauces just didn't taste great to me which is everything. He loved the brisket though...so that was a win. Literally everything I put into my mouth was extremely satisfying. 10/10 flavor and cooked to perfection were my date's baby back ribs and burnt ends. Everything I ordered was delicious, pulled pork, collard greens, and baked beans. I tried my date's brunswick stew and my only complaint is that it could be better with a kick to it. Luckily they provide hot sauce on the table and that, with a dash of pepper, did the trick. The restaurant was family friendly. We went on a Friday night and it was busy. They said it would be a 30 minute wait, and they texted us about 15 minutes later and said our table was ready. The noise there was average to loud. I am a little hard of hearing so I had to lean over a lot to hear my date who was sitting right next to me. We sat in the main area, but they had seating in the back that might be a quieter area if you ask to be seated there. I'm hard to please when it comes to BBQ. I order this dish at any restaurant that serves it because i eat this as my dessert. This is a very strong dish. Brisket: Perfect amount of moist. Definitely euphoric when it enters my mouth. Sausages: Perfectly cooked,, tender and juicy. I enjoyed every bite. Ribs: This i would have to be honest about. It's hella dry!!! Like its sat a little too long in the smoker dry. Needs improvement. Hosted an event here for work and it was spectacular! Brook and Fran were a delight to work with- called me back often and followed up promptly. I asked lots of questions about food specifics and they were quick to come up with solutions that were still well within my price range. We hosted the event in the attic. The one thing I will say is I was promised the patio last minute but on the day of the event, it ended up still being in the attic. It was a big deal but the patio would have been more fitting for our attendee population. There was a self serve area for drinks available which was nice. The decadent banana pudding also sat on this table. Our buffet style arrangement included two meats- pulled chicken and pulled pork, cornbread, coleslaw, homemade pickles, Mac and cheese, and garden veggies. One of our guests arrived late and the lady serving us was kind enough to grab her to go containers with additional sides since we had already ran out. Overall, wonderful place to host event! An order of bbq Turkey. (Skip this add on) Also, The field green salad with pulled chicken....which I could eat every day for the rest if my life. The food is fantastic. 5 . You can sit inside or out, both are fun. The waitstaff is great. The one bad experience was the hostess. We were there on 9/27/23. She was extremely rude. She acted as though it was a bother to help us. I asked for an outside table and was curtly told there were none. I told her that there was and she walked off saying nothing. When she took us to our table it was really wet. I asked to have it wiped and she replied "It will dry" and walked away. I tried Smokejack BBQ one day when derping around in Alpharetta. There's a ton of pretty good looking spots in Downtown Alpharetta. I'm happy to report that Smokejack is a great spot. I ordered the Flippin' Good platter under the Pig Out section, because I'll never fully get rid of the inner fatty that has propelled me to the great heights which I've reached in my life. Flippin' Good platter comes with 1/2 lb burnt ends or brisket and 1/2 rack of ribs, two sides, and Texas toast. Went with mac n cheese and fries for my sides. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and everything was truly amazing. Too many barbecue places become overly reliant on sauce, and they don't give enough attention to the meat. At Smokejack, I was able to taste the incredible flavor of the meats. Sides were high quality and also delicious. It's always a risk to get low quality mac n cheese [which I know some people some reason prefer], but Smokejack fortunately serves the baked goodness with a nice crust on top. A few imperfections certainly exist. They have Texas Pete rather than the vastly superior Tabasco. There's a downright silly printout of "suggested additional tip" at the bottom of your receipt. I tipped 20% and found it cheesy. I can't imagine what the weirdly passionate anti-tip crowd must think of it. The imperfections don't take away from the fact that Smokejack BBQ is the best barbecue I've had in Metro Atlanta, and that includes Fox Bros. read more

We started with the Fried Pickles, and these were the best fried pickles I've ever had! They weren't oily at all and I loved the seasoning and breading. The sauce it comes with is also delicious. I ordered the Chopped Beef Brisket Sandwich with Mac & Cheese, while my friend had the Bama Chicken Sandwich with Mashed Sweet Potatoes. The brisket was so tender and flavorful!
