We stumbled upon Smokejack a few weeks ago during the Wood and Wire Festival. Although they were not officially part of the music festival, we found that the outside venue and musicians were worth staying for. We have since gone back a few times and are happy with the BBQ and the beer selection. It's a small place, so feels local and welcoming every time! I can't wait for the outside patio to finish as I do enjoy the outdoor feel more so than when the band is inside. My favorites thus far have been the Fried Green Tomatoes to start, Burnt Ends (brisket) with either Beans and Mac-n-Cheese (they're a tie, but one is definitely heavier than the other - you guess, lol!). Just ate my to-go meal from Smokejack BBQ. It was tasty. I ordered the 1/2 pound brisket and two sides. The collard greens tasted fine, the mac and cheese side was fine as well. Basic and decent, but minimal portion size. The brisket was also fine. I had the choice of lean or marbled. I chose lean and it was lean, along with a fair amount of fatty edge, if you like that. The sauce was more sweet than I like, but that's taste. So my critique is simply this: Price. Perhaps it's a matter of inflation to to circumstances beyond control. Perhaps it's location. Who knows? I tend to tip on to go orders, and maybe too much, seeing as how I'm not sitting down for service, etc. , but the above meal was over $22. plus the 4 bucks I tipped. So, just not worth it, IMHO since I'll be hungry again later. read more

I've been coming here for a while and I really enjoy this place. Everything I've had from the BBQ menu has been good and I also like their sauces. There aren't a lot of local places that do smoked turkey so when I find one I'm always excited. My absolute favorite item was the Smokey Pilgrim sandwich, but unfortunately when they recently updated their menu that item came off. They replaced that with a different smoked turkey sandwich which is still good but I really miss the cranberry sauce on the Pilgrim. They've added a few ahi tuna dishes which are really nice - and not what you'd expect to see from a BBQ place. They normally have a good variety of rotating draft beer selections and I enjoy their cocktail menu. You do have to drive around back and find parking in the public lot but most of the time that's not a problem - hopefully that doesn't change with the new construction going in in the area. I was here for a rehearsal dinner, and sometimes when food is prepared for large parties it just isn't great because temperature issues or things are dry but that wasn't the case this time! We had chicken, brisket, Mac and cheese, and veggies. The veggies were a little bland, but let's be real it's not meant to be the star. We were so pleasantly surprised to find this amazing BBQ restaurant while visiting Georgia for my daughter's soccer games. When Kayla noticed that I wasn't eating my beans she quickly offered another fan favorite to substitute the beans and brought out some corn bread that was delicious. My family and I usually order our food to-go, but we moved an hour away and was in the area so my mom and I decided to have lunch here and JACKKKKK you need to open another location Loganville... They have dog water bowls at each table, which was perfect as we had our little fur baby with us. We ordered The Jack platter that came with chicken, pulled pork, burnt ends and ribs plus 4 sides. For the sides we got the corn pudding, cole slaw, bbq baked beans and mac n cheese. Everything was really good. The only criticism I can say is that the ribs, although they had good flavor were dried out, which generally indicates they were heated up via microwave. LOL But we went in and we had approximately a 45 minute wait, we opted to have a drink in the standing room only bar with a guitar player playing live music. After two Tanqueray and tonics we found two seat at the bar, we opted to dine there instead of waiting any longer. I let the hostess know we are eating at the bar. With no qualms they understood... I observed that the food was slinging out hot and fast. This wouldn't be too bad... The bartender (long brown hailed woman and knowledgeable) was pleasant and and offered a suggestion after I asked the differences in the two salads. We opted to split some smoky chicken wings with a house BBQ sauce, these puppies were huge! Perfectly rubbed and smoked then dipped in the house BBQ sauce. She had the "Cue"bano sandwich, which was excellent, they did not skimp in the pork department while stacking this baby! I had the St.Louis ribs, and finally a rib that actually had a smoke ring on the meat! I greatly enjoyed the dry rub with a little dipping into the various bbq sauces they had. In short I'm glad I kept it dry... Dessert wasn't in the books tonight but another pint was, thanks hunny for driving... Altogether a great experience for for a last minute dinner. My only advice... Smokejack BBQ is a different kind of BBQ in my opinion. Most sides are made fresh from scratch which I really liked. The first time I came here, the food was just okay. We had excellent service as our waitress was very knowledge about the menu and made some great recommendations. I ended up ordering the BBQ pulled chicken with baked beans and mashed sweet potatoes. The mashed sweet potatoes were good but I wasn't a huge fan of the baked beans. I couldn't understand why they put pieces of green pepper in it so the flavor wasn't too good. The BBQ pulled chicken was also very different. I feel like the BBQ sauce was a bit bitter. The next time I came here, we ordered takeout. I ordered the Turkey Applecado Sandwich with grilled veggies. This sandwich was amazing! I definitely recommend it. It was about $10 for the sandwich and the side. The price is a bit high for a sandwich but it was worth it! It included smoked turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, apple, avocado, cucumber and mayo on Texas toast.
