We came here exactly the same time last year...but I remember we were bit disappointed in how ridiculously spicy-hot the Galbijiim was! Still, I really liked the vibe of the restaurant, and all that they had to offer, so we decided to try again. Well, again, we ordered the Galbijjim...and this time, there wasn't a Regular or Spicy like last time. We also ordered a small size of Seafood Pancake. Well...Gotta be frank. This time, the Galbijjim was TOO mild. In fact, it even had this brown watery soup base (which I don't remember was a thing with Galbijjim??). WOW. Just can't seem to find the right balance here. Quite disappointing because we both were knocked over by just how AMAZING it was in the original Duluth location. Unfortunately, the Galbijjim at this location is just not the same. It's either too hot-spicy...or too mild (and soupy?!?). Also, the portion is WAY smaller...almost too small. If you look at the hot pot, it barely fills the bowl (?!?). Too mild...too soupy...and too skimpy. So again, we were quite disappointed. We agreed that if we're to have Galbijjim, we'll be going to the Duluth location over this one. Two Strikes, and OUT for me! Their side dishes were good...but again, I felt that the Duluth location offers a much more spirited variety of sides as well. Not sure why this is the case? I found this surprising as well...given how high the ratings were here?? Luckily, there was something we were impressed with...and that was their Seafood Pancake. It was MUCH crunchier than how I remembered it in the past...and both my husband and I agreed that this was THE best version we've had to date! We regretted not ordering the large size of this...as we enjoyed this more than the Galbijjim! It's so unfortunate that I'm still not able to upgrade the review to 5 stars...especially given how I love the vibe of this restaurant! Service is quite good too. But their Galbijjim continues to disappoint...so must dock another star. Maybe if I/we revisit, I'll order something else from their menu...and hopefully, it'll be better than their version of Galbijjim???
We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server was very patient and did an excellent job explaining the menu and dishes. Since a couple of us are vegetarian, she was also very accommodating with modifications to meet our dietary preferences. The ambiance was lovely and made for a great lunch date setting. However, the food portions were on the smaller side, and the bibimbap was served differently from the traditional style we expected. Overall, we found the flavors to be just average and not particularly memorable. While the service and atmosphere were excellent, we're not sure we'd return specifically for the food.
0/5 stars. What kind of scam is this???? As a korean, this place was a huge disappointment. First off, jjamppong no matter where you go all have a distinct, staple taste. The spicy jjamppong here tasted horrible. it was just noodles with 5 pieces of over cooked and old seafood in chili paste broth.... Second. The bibimbap? why would they serve it on a FLAT plate? it was so hard to mix the rice in it. Portion size of this dish was like kids menu. Not sure if they only focused on the aesthetics of the restaurant but there no need for you to waste money here.
Definitely come here for the lunch combos ($16-20 ea)! It comes with beef broth soup and great sides including a veggie pancake, gimbap, spicy tofu, and more. I loved the Duluth location and this was my first time at the Alpharetta one! The Duluth one has different ownership now. I got the tofu soup, tasty as always! Unfortunately this location doesn't have purple rice though. The banchan (side dishes) were solid too and you can ask for refills. There are only about 10 booths so I would make a reservation if you're coming at a peak time. As for parking, there's a free public parking garage down the street a couple blocks - search up "Alpharetta public garage". Street parking is also free, 3 hr limit.
I have been going to the Duluth Jang Su Jang for many years. After hearing it changed ownership, I figured I should try out this location. It's located in downtown Alpharetta so there is either street parking or a parking deck that is a short walk away. Upon entering, this location is a completely different vibe than the original location. The Duluth location is large and warm, with a cozy homestyle and humble interior. This location gives a more upscale and elegant feeling. All the dinnerware are a matching silver. While the original location has a mix and match of many different kinds of plates/bowls for the banchan. Like some other reviews mentioned, the food is not exactly the same even though the menu looks more or less similar. They don't serve the same purple rice here (my favorite!) or give a raw egg to crack into the hot soondubu soup. The seafood pancake which I loved from the Duluth location, is extremely hard and crunchy here. I like it a bit crispy but still soft inside. It may be down to preference though. Just something to remember because I did see other reviews mention the crispier/harder texture here as well. The soup and banchan are still good. Just not exactly the same. This location is definitely still worth a try though if you are a fan of the original location!
I love coming to Jang Su Jang for authentic Korean food. My favorite dishes are Korean army stew, bulgolgi, spicy pork, seafood pancake, tofu soup, and ttebboki. The side dishes are great, and the staff is extremely friendly. Seating is comfortable, and it's easy bringing my two babies here. Parking can be a bit tricky since they're located in downtown Alpharetta, but there's a parking lot nearby.

Jang Su Jang is super popular Korean restaurant in Duluth and the owner recently sold off its original location in Duluth as well as JS Kitchen banchan store while keeping the Milton Jang Su Jang location. Like other comments, parking is a bit hectic but there is a deck you can park in on the next stret over. Interior is much fancier while the initial location has very traditional Korean vibe to it. JSJ is known for their side dishes, hence they had their own banchan/side dishes store. Also has a diverse menu, which my goto was the galbijjim or haemulkalgooksu. Each visit we visited the Milton location, food was bland but we kept telling each other it'll be better next time and we'll try something else next time but I think we just had enough. Here's all the disappointments. They dont have the same purple rice from their original location. Banchan is not as good - kimchi is watered down, japchae is so dry, and etc... Half of the sides are bland which is also true for the entrees as well. I used to love Duluth JSJ seafood pancake but here, they changed to more fried and crispy version that hurts the roof of my mouth. My favs such as haemulkalgooksu has no depth in it here. Also all the other soup entrees that my coworkers tried such as yukgaejang and galbitang were all let down as well. While we love having a Korean spot in Alpharetta, just little disappointed that they tone down the flavor.
Our family has mostly visited Jang Su Jang in Duluth, so this was our first time trying the Alpharetta location. When we used to go to the Duluth Jang Su Jang nearly ten years ago, it was mainly for comforting dishes like Soondoobu, something very affordable and casual. The Alpharetta Jang Su Jang felt quite different. It's located inside a hotel, and the atmosphere is much more upscale. Because of that, the prices are not cheap, and the overall vibe is more polished than what we were used to. It truly felt like a different version of Jang Su Jang. The food was very good, and the service was also excellent. Everything was well prepared, and the staff was attentive. However, as Korean visitors coming from out of state, it felt a bit distant from the Korean community, which makes it less likely for us to return regularly. That said, it's definitely worth visiting at least once, especially if you're looking for a more elegant Korean dining experience in Alpharetta.
Tried Jang Su Jang for the first time and was genuinely impressed. The food was incredibly flavorful, especially the seafood pancake and soon tofu soup. Everything tasted fresh and authentic, and the banchan selection was generous and varied. The staff was kind and attentive, and the overall vibe felt warm and welcoming. To call your server at any time you just press a button on the table which is very clever. Excited to come back and try more!
I returned to Jang Su Jang a second time. This was just as great as the last! The owner, Steven, was there to greet us again and talk. He is very proud of his food and he should be. He made sure to take care of me and my guests. And we ate so much. The service was so attentive. I know our serves went back and forth every 10 minutes just to get us more kimchi pickles. They are so amazing they should be jarred and sold We had a repeat of the previous dishes and added pork belly to it. I ordered short ribs to go with as many pickles as they could give me. I can't wait to be hungry to eat all my leftovers. Please make the journey up to Alpharetta to eat at Jang Su Jang. Steven works hard on this food and it shows. You will love the ambiance of such a friendly restaurant.

Solid Korean spot with homey, feel good options. I had the seafood kalguksu, which was comfort food that I needed after a long flight to ATL. The broth was deep in flavor, piping hot, and the noodles cooked perfectly with a good bite. The banchan - loved the variety and flavors - spicy, sweet, savory. My personal favorites were the broccoli, kimchi, and potatoes. Service was great, attentive without being overbearing. Beautiful interiors in this charming part of Alpharetta. read more

Went to this restaurant for dinner as per recommendation as we were visiting from another town and loved the ambience of this restaurant. Clean, bright, and modern in the inside. The server came promptly upon our arrival. She was attentive and our order came as soon as they were ready. We ordered the seafood pancake which was okay and I think need more seasoning and it didn't came with the dipping sauce. I normally got the dipping soy sauce whenever I ordered pancake but I guess not at Jang Su Jang. The banchan were okay and my favorite were the kimchi and the cucumber pickle kimchi. The japchae and the La galbi were good too but my favorite from the main dish was the spicy beef back rib Jjim which was not spicy at all. The server told us that their La Galbi is their famous dish at this restaurant and they have the combo order of La Galbi and soft tofu, I ordered seafood tofu for my combo and it hit the spot. Another dish that worth to try is the spicy stir fried squid and it's not spicy at all. read more

A great spot in downtown Alpharetta! Be prepared to park in a deck or a lot a little further away. Parking right in front typically gets full quickly. Staff is very friendly and quick. I got the Korean beef ribs. Super flavorful and you get rice and 7 sides as well. What was different here was that you don't have to cook the food yourself. Proteins are cooked for you and brought to you. Great spot in Alpharetta for Korean food! read more

I can't say enough about this place!! The food, the service is all spectacular!!! We tried their Spivey beef dish! I can't think of the name! Just know that it's super good! The beef is fall off the bone tender! The Resturant is cozy and welcoming!! We will definitely be back! read more

My FAVORITE place to get Haemul Pajeon in ATL. So glad they opened a sister branch close to our home! Things you should know: I. PARKING Up the street, there is a free parking garage (by the animal hospital). It's a brief walk to Jang Su Jang from there if you can't find street parking out front. II. SERVICE Attentive with banchan refills and timely with bringing out our order. I was wearing a white dress and they were considerate enough to give me a clear, plastic apron so I wouldn't dirty my outfit! III. QUALITY Literally, nothing here has disappointed us! For my friends who don't know how to navigate the menu, here are a couple recommendations: * Haemool Pajun (해물파전) * Bulgogi Mushroom Jungol (불고기 버섯전골) * Kimchi Soft Tofu (김치 순두부) if you like spicy IV. We were forgotten in the corner but the owner/chef made it up to us. Got at the restaurant at 7:15 to put in our name, told us that we'd be seated. Watched and saw that two groups who came after us get seated first even though we were waiting by the front door? Finally got seated at 7:30, rang bell to put in our order and did not get anyone to come take our order until 7:53, or bring water at all until then. We were excited for this place but the overall service and speed seemed to be catered to the main part of the dining room and the corner table was forgotten. Finally the bulgogi came at 8:10, it was cold tho so we asked for it to be sent back and the owner gave us an extra banchan, snail, as courtesy. Soondobu came at 8:20. But the biggest kicker was that at 8:30 he came with a whole seafood pancake on the HOUSE. Like from one asian brother to another asian brother you didnt have to do all that your restaurant was busy as heck. This completely changed our attitude and definitely made our night. Dining room is nicely designed except i feel that our table in the back was forgotten but the owner made it up to us. Food is exceptional. We were starving by the time we were served our food at. We ordered the soon tofu soup ($15~) and the bulgogi ($20~). The soon tofu soup was really delicious and flavorful and the broth they used is great and is the best ive had in atlanta. Food and service were excellent! We ordered the Korean fried chicken skewers, Kim chi and beef tofu soup combo with beef short ribs, scallion pancake with bulgogi. Soups were extremely flavorful and just the right amount of spice! Ribs were very tender and melted in your mouth! Restaurant was extremely clean and my wife loved the ambiance. My wife's first Korean food experience was a hit and we can't wait to go back! read more

Super clean and nice interior. Parking can be a little difficult but it isn't too complicated. The side dishes were perfect and plentiful. I got the Soteok Skewer and it was perfectly crispy and chewy with a sweet glaze. My dad and I shared the Short Ribs for 2 and it was plenty for the both of us. It was so good that I still dream about it The staff was attentive but there's a little button you can press if you do need something ! The food is a little pricey but I assume it's because of the location and how new the place is but other than that, it's so good !!! read more
Parking is a real tragedy, prepare to hunt and hunt and then ultimately go on a long walk to get from a parked car to the restaurant. We got the bulgogi lettuce wraps, seafood pancake, fried calamari, bibimbop, beef soup. Would not recommend the calamari. Comes out fried in tempura which actually was very nice but the stiff, finger-like calamari was tough and quite scary looking once the fried portion came off. Seafood pancake if definitely the way to go, includes calamari and more and overall very tasty. The beef and tofu bibimbop was not plentiful in the beef or tofu but overall was very nice and didn't feel bogged down by restaurant salts and who knows what. It came with a bonus presentation in the hot pot and frying the egg, who doesn't love a dinner and a show? The beef soup really is the star! I felt my soul heal itself with just a few slurps of soup, my bones were warmed from the inside out. Soup is legit whatever throat secret ingredient is really kept me running! 4 stars - good food but just off enough to not go running back any time soon. read more

I passed through this place multiple times and loved the decor and vibe and one day finally gave it a try. Here is the summary of my experience at Jang Su Jang: 1) Ambiance 6/5: I absolutely loved the vibe and ambiance of this place. This looks like a very posh fine dining space. This was my major reason for visiting this place 2) Service 5/5: The people here are very helpful and they make sure that you are properly taken care of. They were patient and helpful in explaining the different options and even suggested things to replace in case you wanted a vegetarian experience. 3) Food 4/5: The highlight of our experience was the small sides that were offered to us along with our main food. You can order them unlimited and they are delicious - something for every taste bud. Here is the summary of my experience with the food we ordered: a) Fried calamari: They were crispy and tasty. Worth a re-order as an appetizer. b) Mushroom Tofu: The tofu was very soft which was served with a side of rice. Overall the taste was good. This was one of the few menu items which was vegetarian (even without egg). I wanted to try Ramen soft tofu but was told that it might have fish oil or egg in them. c) LA Gaibi: I believe it was this dish but pardon me if I missed it. The portion was huge but my wife did not like the taste of it. The sides also were great accompanying it. 4) Value for Money 4/5: It's not the cheapest place for Korean food but given the ambiance and the helpful people there, I can let the price slide a little. In summary: It is worth a visit if you love beef and steak and want to experience fine dining at cheaper prices. The good: 1) Ambiance 2) Service 3) Sides for your dishes Not so Good: 1) Not many options for vegetarians 2) A little pricey read more
Food here was absolutely delicious, We ordered the Bosam Jungsik (Boiled pork with lettuce wraps and veggies) and the King beef short rib stew for two! I couldn't recommend the beef stew enough- it was some of the best I've had! I also loved all of the side dishes they were all fresh and tasty! Service and ambiance was great- we came on a Saturday and were seated immediately. My only complaint is that parking in downtown alpharetta is a hassle so please keep that in mind read more

Jang Su Jang is the perfect addition to dt Alpharetta and I'm glad they branched out from their original Duluth location. Alpharetta hasn't had decent Asian food offerings and this is a game changer. Great food, gorgeous and modern interior, and quick service! Food: The banchan was good quality and we enjoyed the spicy galbijim entree we ordered. It was too sweet for how I like galbijim, but it was still good. It also was barely spicy. My boyfriend enjoys very spicy food so we asked for a side of spicy sauce on the side. The waitress brought out this little cup and warned us that it is extremely spicy....That was an overstatement- it was one of the spiciest things he ever had! Be careful if you request that. Great to have Korean food in Alpharetta. Kimchi Red is so busy these days, it's difficult to get a table so options are very welcome. Jang Su Jang is fairly well known so it's nice to see it show up here. I had ordered a decent spread to sample a few things. It's not as good as the Duluth location so seeing all the five-star reviews is probably just hype, in my opinion. Here's what's good: Short rib stew -- outstanding LA galbi -- pretty good Grilled mackerel -- could be better but not bad Dolsot bibimbap -- solid So tteok -- tasty Not so good: Seafood pancake -- overcooked Deep-fried mandoo -- average, wrappers taste generic Alcoholic drink choices were a bit lopsided. They have sake flights on the menu, but when you ask about it, there's no sake available. :/ Situated in the old Sabu restaurant (you might even see some familiar Sabu choices), the interior is beautiful, but I have to admit I wish it was cozier. Service was friendly. You can even experience the table side call buttons to get your server's attention which every restaurant should have. read more
Friend visited from NY, I would say Korean food is best in GA. Usually my family visit the original one in Duluth. They open one in Alpharetta which is closer to home. Love this new location! High ceiling, modern, clean, nice vibes. Servers are very attentive. 6 small dishes of appetizers to start with plus Korean bean soup. Seafood pancakes is not the traditional thin pancake but the fried thick and crispy with a lot of seafood and veggies! Galbijjim (braised beef short ribs) is the dish you cannot miss! Short ribs are so flavorful and just the right tenderness! Love eating all the veggies - radishes, pumpkins, carrots! Rice cakes are like gold... only two pieces. Jang Su Jang is one of our favorite Korean restaurants in Atlanta! The short rib stew is absolutely amazing and packed with flavor. It's such a rich and comforting dish, a personal favorite of mine! We also tried the bossam, and I actually really enjoyed it despite not liking fatty pork belly. The dumplings were good as well. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here. But I highly recommend trying the short rib stew!! read more

Is there a parking lot or an easy access garage? Any parking fees?
You can park on the street but parking space is limited, as this restaurant is located at downtown. However there is an uncovered public parking just a couple blocks away. That parking is not free and I can't recall how much it is to park there…
