We came here with another couple for Alpharetta restaurant week! There was plenty of parking to the right of the restaurant. Make sure you park at the designated parking (note on resy and they also send me a text day of). Reservation was easy to make on resy. When you walk in, the bar is to the left and the dining room is to the right. Our server was so nice and he suggested that we order one of each in the tasting menu so we can try both! We were first served a nice, cold sake in a cute bamboo ramekin. The app was delicious! I love the smoked hiramasa with the lovely pickled cucumbers. The scallop was nice and it's sweet from the yuzu. The sushi/sashimi were the highlight! The bluefin sampler was so fresh and all the sushi combination was fabulous! The main was sea bass and miso cod. The sea bass was better than the cod, but both were wonderful with the crunch of seaweed and sushi rice underneath. The ambiance here was so amazing! everyone was super friendly from the second you walk in. We sat at the bar since we got the omakase. Every single piece was amazing and so worth the price. The sushi chef was so friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite was definitely the salmon belly and the hand roll as well. We got the picante roll too! It was so fresh and delicious. The dipping sauce that came with it was so refreshing and loved the yuzu flavor. The service here was so friendly! We ended the night with the ice cream with butterscotch drizzle and topped with matcha powder. It was so amazing. Overall, one of my favorite sushi spots. read more

We came here for a Father's Day dinner because they offer a pre made menu and everything seemed to be going great initially. We ordered our cocktails and they came out normal time. We were also the only ones in the restaurant at 5pm. We ordered two baby high chairs and mentioned it in the ressy as well. One of the severs took one of the chairs away thinking we weren't using it and never asked before they took it, so now we had to feed one of the babies on our lap. We also requested if they could find another one and they only have 2 high chairs and one booster. Why does this well known restaurant only have 1 booster and 2 high chairs. Anyways, that's the least of the unfortunate events that occurred during this time. We had two servers simultaneously coming to take orders and then we addressed this with the one server that took the main dinner order; he comes around and says I'm not your server, meanwhile, the main lady that is working the floor said that they are all helping each other. We ordered our apps right away and they came out in time and as soon as we wanted to place our main course we couldn't find any of the servers. We had to wait and wait and wait until someone listened to us and finally came out to take our order. The table across from us there were 14 people being served back to back with their orders. None of them had to call the severs and were being served instantly. I am not here to make any allegations on how they are treating their customers but we were being constantly ignored and dismissed. The main lady keeps saying we are sorry and came back to confirm our order because the two tickets we had before apparently she wanted to confirm with while another server said they only had one ticket for us. We have 4 little ones and cannot imagine if we waited to feed them here how hangryyyy they would have been. We are currently waiting 2 hours for our three sushi rolls. This is a live review because clearly I have all the time in the world to write this while I wait for my sushi. The food is good, nothing against it but the SERVICE, god damn the service is a minus 0. It's so bad when you enter the restaurant at 5pm for your reservation and do not get your food until 7:30. We asked for the WiFi for the kids iPad since they have been waiting for so long and the lady did not want to give us the WiFi. You'd think she would understand given how long we have been waiting for. The only response we kept getting is we are sorry, we are sorry. We also wanted to order another round of drinks and now did not because our food is taking a forever to come out and we are honestly just trying to leave at this point. When we received one of the rolls, we got two of the same ones and the rest of the 4 rolls were "lost in translation" apparently cause the server that dropped off an extra roll didn't know that it was suppose to go to the table across from us and then said " you've got ur order right? This whole experience was a joke honestly, I cannot fathom all of the mishaps that occurred and do not know how they operate and are still open. Towards the end, one of the servers said come again and we said probably not.... The server goes OK thank you. What a nice little upscale sushi bar! I was instantly blown away by the posh and sleek interior, and the hostess was so sweet as we were instantly sat down. The candlelit lighting was beautiful and accentuated by the decor and bar lights inside the restaurant. I ordered the Ba Ba Bu roll (which was half off during happy hour!) and the 5 Sashimi platter (15 pieces in total, 3 of each). Fish was fresh and delicious, melting in my mouth basically. I would give it ZERO stars if I could. We had a group with two babies who needed high chairs and we requested these with our reservation, yet a server took one away without asking us and we were told "sorry, we don't know who took it and we only have 2 total in this restaurant" so that was problem number 1 of like 10. As a mom, it is hard enough going out for dinner with little children but we mainly went because it was Father's Day and this made the start to a TERRIBLE dinner (that we didn't even get by the way). Next up, we ordered apps and drinks which were pretty decent I will say however it took over 40 minutes to get a cocktail and then only did we receive it after we gave them a friendly reminder. For some odd reason we had 2 servers which made ordering a DOOZY - and none the less, our dinner orders were so messed up that neither server could recall what we ordered despite writing it down (shocking???!) and then after we reminded them of the order, it came out over an hour later at a whopping 7pm and it was STILL WRONG. So as you can imagine, with 4 children under the age of 6, scheduling a 5pm dinner was about as considerate and safe as we could do so we would be in and out BY 7pm but this was such a hot mess that we ultimately ended Father's Day dinner by not eating bc the orders were not right, and left to go send the Fathers to eat elsewhere on their own. Thank you for ruining our Father's Day and also being so very unapologetic after giving us the WORST service EVER. Also, PSA: there was a large party that sat next to us that had called in their ENTIRE order before they arrived. Ignore all of the old reviews. Since 1/22/24, Monkey 68 is under completely new ownership, and it shows. Chef Jackie, who helped open Umi and Oku, as well as his current restaurant, Chirori, has taken the helm and steered this ship right. My friends and I are hugeeeee fans of Chirori, so it made sense to attend their soft opening. We don't trek OTP for no damn reason, but it was well worth it. I need everybody to come and experience it because it's one of the best meals I've had in a very long time, and ya girl likes to eat. We all opted for the decadent omakase. This is a 15 course nigiri omakase, which is similar to their offering at Chirori. They also offer the signature option, which includes an appetizer, 10 pc sashimi, hot course, 8 pc nigiri, and likely dessert and soup (I forgot what he said). Both options cost $130 and while it is a steep price tag, it's on par with the other omakases around town. This one, though, is worth every penny. Chef Jackie sources his fish fresh (like uni from Hokkaido or these stupid good jumbo oysters from LA), and you can definitely tell. Each bite of nigiri completely melts in your mouth. My god. I kept thinking the bite I was eating was my favorite, but then I'd try the next and change my mind. Absolutely outstanding. They are like butter when they hit your tongue, and you almost get upset because you wanted to savor it for so much longer. Chef created the black magic roll at Oku and brought it to Monkey 68. YES. MAAM. still as amazing as I remember. God bless. We also got to try the asparagus tempura, Brussels sprouts, and squid ink sashimi box from our neighbors, and you guessed it...all delicious. Cocktails were just as good. Each drink is modeled after one of the Chinese zodiac animals. Between the four of us, we tried the pig, rabbit, horse, dog, dragon, and goat. Each has a unique flavor profile, and we loved them all. The horse was my favorite with the muddled strawberries and ginger beer. So refreshing. The goat was my second favorite. Like a warm hug. Talk to the bartender. She's got a back story for each drink, and I was too lit to remember them all. But for instance, the snake drink has a numbing effect since when you're bitten by a snake, you often get numbed. Or the goat drink has a kick to it because...it's a goat. Our servers were amazing. Staff from top to bottom were so pleasant. Free onsite parking. Entrance is in the front (we walked to two different "doors" only to be redirected. I hate driving out this far, but I will gladly do it to eat this food again. read more

Wow, what an unbelievable afternoon of a culinary delight. I finally got an opportunity to go see my favorite sushi chef, chef Jackie Chang, at his new sushi restaurant Monkey 68 Kitchen And Bar in Alpharetta along with my mom, Ron, Chef Aaron Phillips of Lazy Betty and his lovely wife Lai. Chef Jackie's Omakase course was bar none the best I have ever had; Chef Aaron even joked that Chef Jackie was working towards a Michelin star and that would not be an understatement. TLDR ; food was not bad, experience was facepalm ‍ It had been a few months since we've been to monkey 68, but we heard it was under new management so we decided to give it a try. I understand new restaurants go through growing pains but what we experienced was pretty rough. We were sat promptly on a Saturday night but we were only given 1 menu for 3 people to share. The drinks were lacking, the same cocktail menu as the previous owner, but far less tasty, and weak. The food came out extremely slowly, the first orders showed up about 42 minutes after we placed our order. I timed it . Some of our food didn't show up so we had to ask another waiter to check on it, and 20 minutes later the rest of our food arrived. Small restaurant but it seemed extremely overbooked and understaffed. I hate to leave bad reviews but the experience we had was not pleasant. Unique presentation. For dinner, we shared a few small plates which were very filling. The dishes are served tapas style and come out in the order they are received. Monkey 68 is seriously one of the best Japanese inspired restaurants in the area. The place is under new ownership in 2024, and chef-owner Jackie brings a real passion to his work. I eat at Monkey 68 every time I'm in town, and I request seats at the bar to watch him and his crew perfecting their craft. I ask Jackie to serve me whatever inspires him, and I've never been disappointed. The wine list is very good, but I recommend to try the craft cocktails. The food is the star of the show, as it should be. Some of my favorites have been wagyu & toro, smoked Spanish Mackerel, smoked cod, and a delicious raw tuna dish on special seaweed. The service is also very good. Our water glasses remained full and our plates were arranged between courses. Highly attentive staff. I've heard about this place (The roswell location though) for some time so we decided to check out the Alpharetta location for an early Father's Day dinner. Its off the beaten path soo not exactly walkable from the rest of the downtown Alpharetta area. I liked that there was dedicated parking but didn't like that it was valet only. The building itself is very cute but the outdoor area leaves much to be desired as there was no landscaping. The inside is incredibly small for a building of this size. There was a small area with two bar height tables and seats and then a small dining area. We made reservations and were seated at one of the bar height tables. Overall I felt like the appetizers were pretty good. We got the Brussel sprouts ($9) and the short ribs ($17). I honestly felt like only the ghagnam style sushi roll was worth it. I was so disappointed in the lady in red roll, and the rolls royce was fine but could have been better. IMO the rolls were small and not exactly the most flavorful. Found on TikTok so had to check it out. This place is in downtown Alpharetta so there's lots to do after eating here. Came for dinner and tried the Bang Bang Shrimp, Korean Meatballs, Toro on Fire Sushi, Lady in Red Sushi and the Mt. Ebi Sushi. All were delicious. I think the Korean meatballs are a must try and we really liked the Toro on Fire sushi as well as the Bang Bang Shrimp. As for drinks I had the Charming Snake and my friend had the Run for the pigs. My drink I highly recommend if you like a proper smoky mezcal. My friends drink was good too and it was cool because they lit it on fire. For my main, I was simple and got a roll: Toro on Fire Sushi - it was alright. I enjoyed it, but was it absolutely amazing? It was alright in my opinion. How to make it more exciting? This was our first time visiting the Alpharetta location, and we had a great experience! We absolutely loved that there is ample outdoor seating at this location! We sat outside and had amazing service and the quality of food and presentation is just SO impressive. Every item we had was so delicious! Some of our favorites are the Bang Bang Shrimp, LOL roll, and the double decker roll. This time I had a strawberry-basil ginger beer and it was so good. Parking is a little tough and tight in this area because they do share the building with other businesses, but don't forget there are 2 parking decks in downtown Alpharetta area and it would be the perfect to stroll around before or after dinner! They do take reservations, and I do recommend having one since it is a smaller restaurant. Great spot for girls night, date night, or just wanting some great sushi! read more

As a longtime and loyal customer of the Roswell location, my wife and I were excited to try this new location because it's closer to us. Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience. Made a reservation, arrived on time and the restaurant was basically empty on a Saturday night -- there were maybe 4 other parties inside. Despite all the open tables in the room, they sat us at the worst possible table. Right next to the kitchen entrance / exit under a bright white light (different color temperature than the rest of the house lights) that felt like we were sitting in a doctor's office waiting room. My wife went to ask if we could sit somewhere else -- maybe at one of the SEVERAL other open tables -- and they didn't know how to handle this request. So they moved us to the bar area to a table that had the same exact off temperature bright light above it. What a mess. Those lights are such a vibe killer and they give my wife migraines (she told them that when she first asked if we could move). So, we got up and asked if there were ANY other tables we could sit at -- they said "unfortunately not, this is what we have available". I politely said we were going to leave and they just said "ok, sorry". Listen, I know this sounds like the pettiest complaint, but if I'm going to pay upwards of $150 for a meal -- VIBE and CUSTOMER SERVICE is EVERYTHING. Details matter, it's why you pay to come to a place like this instead of a strip mall sushi joint. You guys got it all wrong and we won't be coming back. We'll stick with driving the extra 10-15 mins to go to the Roswell location. You really should try harder to create a quality experience for your customers. read more

If you want to experience terrible service, make a reservation here. We came here for dinner tonight, with reservations. The minute we entered the restaurant we just awkwardly stood around waiting for a host/hostess...someone, anyone... to greet us. Finally the guy behind the bar making sushi stepped away to seat us at our table. We then waited a good ten minutes before a waiter came by to take our order. He was then MIA the rest of dinner, minus the time he put the food on our table. There were multiple points during our dinner that I wanted to ask the status on our food (we got the sushi first but then waited 15-20 min for our other dinner items) or just ask for a refill on our water and there was not a single waiter in the dining area that we could even signal to help us. I don't really understand why the entire wait staff was just poof gone. My husband finally managed to make eye contact with another waitress who was walking past the dining area so we could get our check. All in all a pretty awful experience and I will never come back here again. read more

High ceilings and bright, unique decor and elements. Casual atmosphere. Plenty of seating and ample parking. Monkey 68 serves sushi and tapas style items with Asian influence. We were pretty hungry when we arrived, so we ordered quite a few things: Run for the pigs $15 A.K.A. Mickey $12 Yellowtail jalapeño shots $15 Mushroom salad $12 Brussel sprouts $8 Lady in red $17 Mt. Ebi $14 Hodduk $8 We started with drinks, run for the pigs and A.K.A. mickey. Both were strong and delicious. Run for the pigs was served with a flaming lime. It was very cool! Drinks were followed by yellowtail jalapeño shots, mushroom salad, and brussel sprouts. Then, we shared two sushi rolls: lady in red and Mt. Ebi. We finished dinner with dessert, hodduk. Everything was excellent from start to finish! The dishes were full of flavor and textures. Presentation was visually appealing. Difficult for me to choose one or even three favorites! I would order everything again. For "tapas" style, the dishes were pretty generous in serving. A tad bit pricey, though. Service was wonderful. The staff was on top of everything. TL;DR Delicious collection of small plates and sushi in a modern, stylishly appointed setting. First of all, there is actually parking here; however, it's valet so bring some bills with you. Let me first remark on the Hidden Dragon cocktail. It arrived with quite the bit of fanfare, trapped in a bottle with hickory smoke injected into it. The server brings a nice whiskey glass with a large ice cube table side and uncorks the bottle, releasing the smoke, and pours the drink over the cube. It's a nice cocktail with a very clean taste. For a sushi roll, we ordered the Toro on Fire. This was really delicious. The seared fish on top gave it a nice, unusual flavor. Paired it with the poke trio which I found a bit bland. After pouring a little soy sauce over the top, it livened up well. The wasabi in it gives it a nice kick. The kimchi fries is a must try. I mean French fries with kimchi, meat, and cheese. What can go wrong? Paired it with the Angry Ribs. Spiced well and pretty much off the bone. To finish off, a brown sugar latte and the ho dduk ice cream dessert go very well together. The new team at Monkey 68 is absolutely phenomenal. I stuck to the fantastic sushi options, but the rest of the menu looked great going out as well. Chef Jackie and his team are as good as anyone in delivering delicious, fresh, and creative sushi. The long list of tasty cocktails sure doesn't hurt either. First time I went it was sooooo good. Chef Jackie Chang tool care of us at sushi bar. I loved it so much so I slwent back the next week and sat at the regular table. Sushi was so bad. It was not fresh and was really bad, I stopped eating and went to other restaurant to finish my lunch. read more
