Smoked Brisket with Brioche Bun & 1911 BBQ sauce. The sauce saved this otherwise mediocre brisket sandwich
Eug K.

First time at Newark airport, was looking for something New Jersey specific. The closest they had was Jersey Mike's. Stop by smokehouse and ordered a brisket sandwich, honestly it was pretty dry but with the BBQ sauce it was decent. The service was excellent, Tiffany was really kind and helpful.

Trash food from smokehouse in Newark international airport

Absolute scam. Food was garbage. My "smokehouse" salad didn't come with bbq and they argued to charge me. Over $50 for the nastiest Bloody Mary of my life and a salad that taste worst than hospital food. I can't stress this enough: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Why is there food left on the empty tables? There is zero aloha spirit here. And just barely any taste in the food. First, we landed around 0700 and were starving. Best thing about being in the very last row of a plane? You get the meals that the people up front don't want. Who enjoys eating vegetarian, prepackaged airplane food? Anyway, me and my buddy both ordered the breakfast plate. I wanted sausage which they ran out of (I'm still confused on that) so I asked for brisket instead. Yep they gave me bacon. I know everything tastes good with bacon but not here. (Guess the smokehouse ran out of brisket). Service was slow. We just sat there because we had a 2+ hour layover. It helped that our sever really didn't check in on us or anyone. Good thing I still had some bottled water. Overall 1 star cause I can't give a zero. Luckily my next layover is in Denver. At least there, the elevation is so high I lose my sense of taste :)

I was in Terminal A circling where to get lunch and saw this sit-down restaurant. Menu looks enticing so decided to give it a try. What is it with airport food that quality has to be bad? The worst $27 I paid for! Got the Smokehouse Sampler which included 4 pcs of wings, 4 sticks of ribs and 4 oz of pulled pork. Wings: crispy but bland Ribs: tender but bland Pulled Pork: dry and bland There is not a bit of effort put into this dish, not even salt. Everything tasted like it was plain boiled.

Horrible brisket and sides.

If you want reheated garbage 3-day old bbq from the back of the fridge, have yourself a field day at Smokehouse. In the pic below: Sour, poison tasting collared greens, crumbled up old Mac and cheese and bottom-of-the-barrel scrapings of "brisket" that tastes like shoe leather.

Hamburger with salad. On my lap because I rushed to the gate only then to be delayed. ‍

Yes, it's airport food. That said, I was super appreciative tonight when I had a delayed flight through Newark. The young woman at the counter was very nice and super professional. My burger was cooked perfectly. I subbed fries out for a salad with zero hassle. My food came out quickly and it was tasty.

1/2lb brisket

Literally the worst "bbq" I have ever tried and insanely expensive. brisket tasted dry and 3 days old. French fries were basic frozen. Portion was horrendous. All for $30. Do not come here.

This is not the place you want to eat at the airport. Jersey mikes across the street will hit the spot more than this. And there are other sit down restaurants worth your business. We were here on a Tuesday at 5:30pm. It was fairly empty which was good for the kiddos and stroller. Although they asked us to but the stroller and bags outside (who does that at an airport). Anyway we kept them inside the restaurant as our kiddo was sleeping in the stroller. Needless to say they have contactless menus and ordering but it's confusing if you get a real person. Their only menu was helpful as it shows some things were out and unavailable. But their kids menu of chicken fingers and fries for $10 which is the entire reason we came here was not on the menu. So after flagging down a staff person we got real menus. I realize BBQ places run out of smoked meat sometimes. But they were out of so much. Out of beans. Out of brisket. Out off the beef nachos (because it's actually brisket so you can't get that). The sampler platter has wings and ribs and a choice of brisket or pulled pork. So you could only get that with pulled pork. So then they have pulled pork nachos as an option. Can you get those? Nope. Not because they are out of pulled pork. Because they are out of nacho chips!!! Also out of 2-3" beers and of course it was the one you wanted on draft. So onto ordering the kids meal. Not available anymore because they changed the menu. So you have to order the appetizer version which costs $14 instead of $10. Not ideal but that's fine. So the food did come out quick because it's BBQ and all ready pretty much as soon as it's cut. And the chicken fingers lagged a bit because well they have to be fried so that makes sense. So some Time goes by. No chicken fingers. More time goes by. No chicken fingers. Well they forgot to put that order in. So by the time it came out we were basically done with our meal already. So 0/10 on the chicken fingers. First it's only 3 fingers which is pretty weak for an appetizer. So what would the kids version have been? 2 fingers. Doesn't matter because they were covered in oil, rubbery and inedible. Sounds like a money grab to gain $4 per order. As for the actual BBQ food. Nothing to write home about but it was edible and had some flavor. You know what tastes better than mediocre BBQ. A nice jersey mikes sandwich across the way in the airport. Or maybe shake shack if that's your jam. The wings were probably the best of the lot. The Mac and cheese was nothing special easier. The collard greens as a side stay away from. More like gray greens and not worth eating. All in all looks like a nicer airport restaurant but lacking and should be stayed away from.

Stopped here last time I was in Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport. The service was much better. The food was good. It is a definite and noticeable improvement.

As many reviewers mentioned, no one bothered to acknowledge us when we arrived, so I flagged down a waitress who said we could sit whenever we want. We chose to sit in the airier covered outdoor area (which isn't exposed to the elements so is perfectly temperate even in cold weather). There were no instructions on how to order either - this seems like a basic customer service fail: is it that hard to slap up signage explaining 1-2-3, or for someone (anyone!) to greet you and ask if this is your first time here and walk you through the process? Anyway, I'm glad I read the reviews and checked out what we wanted to order beforehand, and asked questions at the cashier. Sure, it's not that hard, but one really shouldn't have to actively track down multiple staff for directions on where to go or how to order at a restaurant. The deal is: decide which meat(s) you want from the poster (there is no menu), place your order (sold by the pound) with the cashier, pay, go to your table, and a server will bring the food to you when it's ready. The meat is (at current writing) $45/lb with unlimited sides and soft drinks. We ordered 1 lb each of beef brisket and lamb shank (1 lb = 2 shanks), which was the perfect amount of food for us 2 hungry adults, 2 teens of modest appetite, and a toddler of negligible appetite. The meat is simply seasoned (Arab bbq style) and came out lukewarm, but is off-the-bone tender and we enjoyed them with the variety of sauces. There are four types of sides: cucumber & tomato salad (good), spring mix, saffron rice (fine but my toddler loved this), and mashed potatoes (bland). It is a well-balanced meal, not too heavy. The chefs are friendly and we watched one film a demo almost certainly for social media. He even let us taste some of what he was seasoning, though there were no pyrotechnics as I had hoped from seeing some of the reels. The service wasn't bad - not terribly proactive but not non-existent either, and we always received what we requested. They could do better with customer guidance, but now that I know what's up I'd come back for the food and would like to try some other meats next time. Meat Moot has many franchises across the Middle East and Turkey, and NJ is one of only 3 locations in the US (the other 2 being in the Midwest). Street parking only.

They were so lemony and garlicky. They have sauces that they serve with the food and some that are on the table as well. I think the sauces are definitely necessary. The meat is delicious but mildly seasoned. I live a bit far and I loved the food so much that I got brisket and smoked chicken to go as well. We arrived on a Saturday the place was absolutely packed but we were seated within about 5 minutes. We were seated right near the smokers and it was so cool to watch them prepare each dish. The presentation here is phenomenal as is the quality of all the meat here. A fresh salad with oil was brought complimentary to the table and it was delicious. We ordered the Buffalo smoked chicken wings and Baba-Ghanoj for appetizers. The chicken wings were so tender that as you picked them up the meat literally fell off the bone! The sauce was subtle but had a nice Buffalo kick at the end. The baba-ghanoj was served cold and was perfect with a little sprinkle of salt. The fresh pitas paired perfectly with it. I'm glad I did my research on this spot as everyone recommended the fresh mint lemonade. Wow amazing and refreshing I love that it came out as a slushy like consistency. I could easily drink them all day and they're probably amazing to eat outside in the warmer months and enjoy. We each ordered the meat platters in 1lb portions which are served with fresh smoked rice that is so good and filling. I wanted the beef shank but sadly they were out and ordered the smoked beef short rib. They served everything on a platter for us which the presentation I must say is outstanding . My boyfriend ordered the smoked brisket and it was so tender and flavorful he kept saying "it's terrible you won't like it because he didn't want to share it at all LOL". We had no room for dessert but I cannot wait to return for our next dinner date night! I would definitely give it 4/5 stars. Nothing was terrible the only complaints I had is once we were seated and our order was taken our server asked if we want appetizers first which we said yes and everything came out at once. Which is fine not terrible just our table was packed and hard to eat. Additionally once our food came out it was hard to get anyone's attention for more drinks but it was no too much of an issue that it ruined the night as they were definitely way too busy and seemed to be short staffed. I definitely want to return and check out the rest of their menu. I highly recommend making the trip to Kanoon!

It was a full afternoon of food and drinks, and the kind of event where a lot of moving pieces have to come together for it to actually work. JP was the reason it worked. JP knew every single one of them by name before the afternoon was half over. Not in a performative way. He just made a point to learn who they were and made them feel like they belonged there as much as anyone else. He was checking in on them, getting them what they needed, keeping them engaged. Parents noticed. Everyone noticed. Beyond the kids, he was everywhere. Anticipating what people needed before they asked. Moving fast without ever seeming rushed. Making sure nobody was waiting, nobody was forgotten, and everybody was having a good time. Yes, it's my fault, yes I did. It was a mistake. Instead of kicking me out, they should have just asked me to throw it away or put it away in my bag instead of pushing me out so drastically, so inhumanely, so embarrassingly in front of people in the middle of enjoying a game. People literally get kicked out of the bar for brawling if they're causing fights. I wasn't doing any of that. My food just literally arrived on the table, when we were trying to have fun watching the world cup and for heaven's sake, I really did buy such an expensive amount of something from the bar! It's not like I wasn't buying anything! And the guard even peered over my husband's shoulder extremely closely while my husband was trying to pack away the food. Even the other bartender/waiter who just served me food wanted to steal away my ketchup sauce (this stingy, really??) just because we were being kicked out. My husband has a sickness, his movements are slow, so when the guard had to be so close to us to intimidate us (instead of giving us some space to pack) that really incensed me, so I said to him, "My husband has a sickness! WAIT A MINUTE AND BACK OFF!" This huge guard got his ego hurt, he trailed us to the streets, he wanted to fight but was too afraid to do anything when he saw many policemen just at the corner, and I don't know what got into me but I spouted and yelled at him, "Man, this is my ONLY time to have fun in America and you spoiled it!! GO FUCK YOURSELF!! AND DON"T FORGET TO FAP YOURSELF WHILE THINKING ABOUT ME!!" And I spouted more and drew a lot of attention. He looked really embarrassed, powerless and retreated back. He didn't know who he was messing with. And I can tell anybody who witnessed this including the cops were on my side. :) America has turned into a really mean state. People simply just can't have fun anymore or at least be treated justly and with some respect. Everybody is there to make money and rob you, then kick you out immediately without enjoying the time eating there. I could have put away the drink so easily, and on top of that, I did just bought some expensive something from there!! DON"T come to this inhumane bar (that's always completely empty anyway except for World Cup days).
