What a delicious experience I had tonight at Roasted Breadfruit. One of the things I miss most about living out here is Caribbean food and I'm so happy that I found them online. We started off with the fried pickles that were the perfect combination of crunchy and tasty. The best fried pickles I've had because the batter was seasoned and the pickles were cooked yet still crunchy. They created a sorrel type dipping sauce that was absolutely out of this world. What drew me to this was the smoked brisket sandwich. The brisket was flavorful and literally melted in your mouth. It was topped with melted cheese and a mango habanero chutney that was out of this world. The flavor profile of this dish was exquisite. My husband did a make your own meal, which included two meats and two sides. He opted for the jerk chicken an ribs with a side of Caribbean rice and fried plantain. He really enjoyed the cook on the meats. I can't wait to come back and try their Mac and cheese. read more

Leaving New York now and going to Cleveland by car is in its self, challenging. But, going through New Jersey gives us a bevy of great places to stop and eat a very good lunch. Roasted Breadfruit Smokehouse and Grill in Wharton, NJ is a pretty terrific stop a 800 mile drive. The smells permeating from this roadhouse diner were intoxicating. I ordered the Quit Jerkin' Around with Smoked pulled pork, slaw, jerk bbq sauce on a toasted brioche bun. served with fries and slaw which I totally enjoyed. My y son ordered the Jerk Chicken Leg Quarter Spicy Jerk chicken leg quarter served with rice and beans and sweet plantains which he devoured We sat outside as this dog friendly restaurant was so welcoming. The staff was accommodating informative as to what Caribbean cuisine was all about. Everything these nice people did for us was so gracious you couldn't do anything but love this place. read more

My husband & I went to Roasted Breadfruit Smokehouse and Grill last night for the first time and we will definitely be back! Gabby (hope I spelled it correctly) greeted us with a smile the moment we walked in and made us feel welcomed:) Gabby was friendly, professional, knowledgeable about the menu and extremely attentive during our time there. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and I had the Jerk Chicken meal. Our meals were delicious and we enjoyed our conversation with Gabby about the inspiration behind the menu as well as where her family is from, Dominica, and even showed us the location on a map. We has so much fun trying Roasted Breadfruit Smokehouse and Grill. We were so excited to try this Caribbean BBQ fusion. The vibes of the restaurant are very cozy, and we chose to eat upstairs. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly, and explained that his family owned and operated the business. Many of the recipes are family recipes, which we found really charming. We ordered the Oxtail Stew, which came with rice, beans, and plantains. This was the best dish of the night. The oxtail had large chunks of super tender meat. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We also ordered the Make Your Own Platter and chose ribs, brisket, french fries, and mac and cheese. The servings were huge. The ribs were excellent, tender and smoky, and came with lots of dipping sauces. The brisket was just okay for us. It was a little dry, and we think they could have used a fattier cut. It also could've tasted a bit smokier. The mac and cheese was AMAZINGLY rich, and the fries were also very tasty. Craving BBQ? This place satisfies! It's Jersey so there's a flare here: Caribbean. But if you're hankering for the standard fare, that's offered too. I'm a bit weird, I tend to judge BBQ joints by the quality of the sides, if they're good, the meat usually doesn't disappoint. Let me just say the Mac n Cheese is absolutely incredible! The chef's 6 year old daughter picked this recipe. She did good, real good. The corn bread was meh but the fruit compote surely helped. I suggest to skip the sauces, they're overpowering. Brisket: juicy, spectacular. Ribs: St Louis would be proud. Staff and owners are extremely friendly. I usually don't drink, but it was hot and I would have loved washing everything down with a beer. Saw an instagram video of this place and figured we'd give it a try. The building is kind of hidden off rt 15 so if you don't know it's there, you'd probably miss it. They have two floors with more of the seating on the second floor. We started off with fried Mac and cheese balls which were some of the best I've ever had. For our meals I got the Meat me Halfway (brisket sandwich) and my fiancé got a create your own platter with ribs, brisket, broccoli, and roasted breadfruit. While I enjoyed the sandwich the bun was very large compared to the amount of meat. I think I would have been happier with the same amount of meat on a smaller bun. The French fries were very tasty, I really enjoyed the seasoning on them. My fiancé said his meal was very good as well, the meats were all cooked perfect. Our waitress was nice but nothing about the service (good or bad) really stood out to me. Overall the experience was good and I'll most likely go back to try something new but not necessarily rushing back there. read more

Read and heard so many great reviews about this place, that we decided to do a takeout order of a variety of things on the menu, and man was it good! The jerk chicken, brisket, ribs, were all done perfectly. Even the rice and beans, mac and cheese and the corn riblets were bursting with flavor! Ordered jerk chicken from very friendly hostess who explained to me why they don't serve steamed veg (not so popular?) and why they don't serve ackee (difficult to find it fresh). Great ambiance with reggae music and barbecue jerk smoke. Rice and red beans (I know them as peas) fluffy and quite good; fairly good fried plantains (I'm used to having them roasted); chicken tasty but a bit dry and not falling off the bone, great jerk gravy sweet and spicy the best part of the meal. I've been here twice: once in person and another time for a take out order. The staff is friendly and family like. The food portions are lovely and the taste is phenomenal. The right amount of tang, spice, sweetness and sourness. It's nice to have such a diverse niche of food in this all americana or Italian dominant food neighborhood. It's refreshing! Ribs are tender and meaty. Brisket balance fat and meat you can just slice off with your fork. Coconut rice has a nice texture where its grain by grain not mushy and hint of sweetness for coconut. For sides tried breadfruit which reminds me of yucca and well seasoned and fried, sweet plantains as expected. We just had lunch here. The inside decor is warm and tastefully done. Very friendly server and we met Chris, the chef. Our food was plentiful and delicious. I had the Quit Jerkin' around pork sandwich with a side of carmelized green beans and carrots plus coleslaw. Everything was excellent. For main course, my wife had the brisket chicken combo, my son had the Mac a cheese bowl and I had the brisket and pulled pork combo. Overall the portions are generous, we brought home lunch for two. My son has the Smoked Sweet Potato which was delicious. The barbecue was very good, try both the chutney and jerk sauces. This was a nice change of pace meal. Ok first small entrance with 4 tables maybe could've had two more but had a guy singing the night we went also a bar, but not a lot of room to sit at it. Wait staff very slow two people working.
