Pimento mac n cheese Fig and pork biscuit (bottom left)
    Kristen K.

Such good biscuits! It's a biscuit that you have to use a fork and knife to get through, but I'm not complaining. I ordered one with pork, fig and goat cheese, and it was a perfect combination of flavors. The sandwich is meaty and full of toppings, so it's definitely filling and enough for a meal. The biscuit was a bit dry, so any large mouthfuls were a bit hard to swallow (I couldn't control myself with smaller bites ), but the flavor was still great. Also the pimento mac n cheese is sooo good and creamy, a little on the watery side, but the pimento is delicious. I kept expecting there to be a spicy kick to it, but there wasn't, and I'm cool with that. Plus, it's a huge serving. It was about a 10 minute wait after we ordered. They are very clean with their iPad for orders (wiping it down after every use, wearing gloves, etc) and the counter space looked clean too. If you see them locally, definitely order something- you won't be disappointed!

We were super stoked to have stumbled upon a food truck we haven't been to before when visiting Cova Brewing Company over the weekend! Upon further investigation on Facebook, their food looked amazing! I really wish they had more of a social media presence because I personally like looking at pictures of the food before I order for the first time, but oh well! I will say-- they had a delicious looking blueberry biscuit on Facebook but I didn't see it listed on their menu, bummer! We ordered the Q and Slaw with chicken, the Pimiento Mac Bowl and a side order of pulled pork (just to try!). I like how they gave us a pager so we could go sit down and enjoy our drinks. The man behind the counter said it would be a while, which it was. It took about 25 minutes, but the food was PIPING HOT when we received it! It was tortuous having to wait for it to cool! The biscuit was amazing and the mac and cheese was everything we needed, I highly recommend! I hope to see Smoked Biscuit around more, everyone needs to try it!

Delicious food! Love the combination of smoked meat and quinoa. Not your average BBQ truck. Looking forward to the next time

I stopped by during their pop up at Farmhouse Brewery and, once again, they did not disappoint. One thing you need to know: their burritos are massive. We're talking "the size of your head" big, so come hungry or be ready for some epic leftovers. The menu is small and focused (usually around four burrito choices), but every single one is packed with quality ingredients and flavor. The Coop spends most days serving on base, but keep an eye out for their local pop-ups. They're always worth chasing down. This time around, I ordered the Pepper Jack Chicken Burrito which was grilled chicken breast, maple bacon, melty pepper jack cheese, and their signature Coop Sauce, all bundled up in a warm tortilla. Every bite was the perfect balance of hearty, savory, spicy, and just a hint sweet from the bacon. Their Coop sauce is one of a kind. Tangy, and delicious. I'm sure adding an egg would take it to the next level (that's an option on all burritos). My friends had the Breakfast Burrito! This one comes with fluffy scrambled eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, juicy sausage, more of that craveable maple bacon, herby potatoes, and (of course) the signature Coop Sauce. They raved about every bite. I appreciate that The Coop keeps things simple with their streamlined menu and focus on top-notch burritos. Whenever I see them around town, I make it a point to stop ... even if there's a line, it moves fast and is absolutely worth the wait. Whether you're looking for a new lunch favorite or just crave seriously great street food, The Coop is a true gem on the Virginia Beach food truck scene. Can't wait to catch them at their next pop-up!

Vampire style sounds so delicious but I didn't want to get basic tacos! lol I had to try the Teriyaki Wonton, Spicy Buffalo Chicken, and BBQ Pulled Pork. Super pleased! That's me looking for something to criticize. lol! Will try again. Hope they hang around so I can get desert during our company event later this afternoon! The Island Pineapple Lemonade is refreshing and I TOTALLY would have ordered the elote had I realized it came in a cup! HANDHELD ELOTE?! I hate I missed out, heheh.

This day I was fixated on food truck chasing so, I did and was very pleased. Four of my co-workers caught wind of my plans and followed suite. Not sure how location and placement are determined. This was a Thursday. Location was Lake Wright Drive tucked away in a GATED parking lot. I found out later all of my co-workers had difficulty finding food truck too but, still worth it! I ordered the Tripleta to go. It came with chips. I normally like VERY spicy food. This wasn't spicy but, I LOVVED IT! A lot of flavors and A LOT of TENDER meat! I'm thinking the tortillas had to be homemade as they were not like any tortilla I've ever had! THREE meats... Chicken, pork, and ham. The slaw was made perfect! Not too sweet nor too tangy. This dish was perfect! All of my co-workers were so happy with their dishes too! Two ordered the pernil & empanadas. Another ordered the Cubano. Now, I know I saw a pic of the Cubano w/ bread. This time it was served w/ a tortilla. My co-worker wished it was on bread too but, said it was still verrrrry good! Gotta stalk Sofrito more as there are other menu items I want to try! Kudos!!

The decor has Polynesian touches, the drinks and food nod to Samoan flavors (like taro and Spam musubi), and you can tell it's a true family business built with a lot of pride and hard work. My friend and I first heard about this spot and literally drove about 25 minutes from Ghent Norfolk over to Bel-Aire Norfolk just to try it out, and it still remains one of our favorite coffee shops in Norfolk. Totally worth crossing town for. On my first visit, I got the Apelu Island Iced Latte, a Taro Cupcake with vanilla icing and toasted coconut, and a Spam Musubi with egg. That combo right there? Dangerous. The latte was smooth and lightly sweet with that pretty taro purple, the cupcake was super moist with the coconut giving it that little crunch on top, and the Spam Musubi with egg was the perfect salty-savory bite to go with my coffee instead of the usual basic breakfast sandwich. Second visit, I pulled back up for their Taro Pumpkin Roll Latte with oat milk (one of their fall specials), and I'm still thinking about it. It tasted like fall but with that island twist; cozy, a little earthy from the taro, and not overly sweet. Just really well-balanced and comforting. The staff has been warm and welcoming every time I've gone in; smiling, chatting with customers, and making it feel like a neighborhood spot even if you drove in from across town. It's the kind of place where you can sit, catch up with a friend, get some work done, or just enjoy your drink and snack without feeling rushed. If you're anywhere in Norfolk and haven't tried Apelu Island Cafe yet, go. From the lattes to the taro treats to the musubi, it's one of those places that makes you want to become a regular. More people need to know about this place.
