Great building, good service, and reasonable prices. I had the brisket sandwich and it was good, but not spectacular.

Wednesday 1/2 off wings. I've had couple other items which are good. But now I only go back on Wednesday.

I can say that few restaurants I've been to pull off the "classy sports bar" vibe as successfully and consistently than Smoke Justis has. They have a fantastic BBQ offering, great bar staff and beer selection, tons of TVs, and a diverse and delicious menu that is creative as it is unique. I can't recommend this place enough whether you're a Covington resident or coming from anywhere outside the area. read more

Appetizers come out with food because, "I'd have to put a bunch of spaces between the orders and two tables came in so I didn't want to mess up your order". Whatever that means- wish we were told before it all came out together. Hummus is awful and burger not much better. Unfortunate because with the atmosphere the place has potential. read more

My group and I were very excited to try a new spot. From the beginning it didn't go well. Our group was 4 couples all over the age of 40. I mention our age because we asked to move tables together to accommodate a party of 8. The server said he'd have to ask the manager. He came back and said we could move the tables together but 'we'd have to keep it calm'. We literally just walked in and asked for a table for 8. Not sure if that typically means party animals at smoke justis, but we would have loved the benefit of the doubt considering we haven't sat down or even ordered a single drink. We promised to 'keep it calm'. We weren't planning to make a huge scene considering it was 5 pm on a Sunday and we were just trying a new spot for dinner. Time to order drinks. We all ordered our drinks. They came. Mine was wrong. I didn't complain and just decided to drink it. I ordered another. It was wrong again. I asked for this one to be corrected. It was. I ordered one more. It was the same as the first drink. Wrong again. I insisted it was wrong and was told it was right. I asked for another to compare. They admitted it was wrong when they compared the correct drink to the wrong one. Now food.....8 meals: 4 of the 8 meals were incorrect. 5 of the 8 meals were cold. We were told the entire kitchen staff had just walked out after our meal. I definitely have sympathy for that. Unfortunately we weren't given any apology or offered any kind of a discount. On top of everything, 2 of our 4 checks were incorrect. At that point, we just decided to pay and leave. Hopefully they can get things squared away. Seems like it could be a nice place. read more

If they would only add boneless wings to their menu we'd be there more often. Service isn't great, staff seems more interested in themselves/being friends with each other. Food is good, beer prices are good, atmosphere isn't bad. read more

Bartender was a jerk. Had to ask for everything.. I heard the wings were excellent never got a chance to order them or anther drink! Service nonexistent on my side of the bar it was like he can only work one end of the war! I do not think I will go back ever. read more

We went for a girls dinner and got an order of the smoked wings to share which were awesome! The best part was the hot sauce and homemade ranch served with them. Then 2 of my girlfriends ordered the crab cake which was so fresh. I got the burger and fries and it was also just as great. We couldn't eat it all because of the huge portions. Loved it! We went on a Saturday night with our kid and friends. We were seated right away. The place is nice and the atmosphere is comfortable. There was a killer deal on food as it was restaurant week. The wings were awesome! Salad was delicious. Brownie for dessert was nice. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Place is a joke. Bad service. Horrible management. Don't lie to guests who work in the service industry and know bar drinks/ customer service. Server had no idea what was going on, was extremely overwhelmed, and told us we had to wait because we were taking to long to order drinks. The manager had no idea how to handle the public or be polite in any manner. After being charged an additional $3 per drink and asking for a correction, he proceeded to make us feel as if it was our fault. I'll never be back. read more

May be the best wings I have ever had! Smoked and then finished in the fryer I believe, but absolutely perfect. House BBQ sauce is outstanding as well. The draft bar downstairs is great for when it gets crowded at the upstairs bar. They also have golden tee and some arcade games next to the self service draft beer bar. Three strikes and you're out! We've tried it 3 times and we have NEVER had decent service. The couple that we were with said this would be the last time they tried it as well. They had one good experience when it first opened (said they thought the owner was there walking around chatting with people that time). But apparently the owner has forgotten about training now that they've been there for a while. The food is ok, however, when you sit outside especially, the service is terrible and it doesn't even have to be busy. Our waiter seemed irritated to bring refills. Just a suggestion, give larger glasses. When you're outside they bring you small throw away cups packed with ice. A couple of sips and it's gone. No smokey flavor, or smell when we walked up that should've been an indicator. No real sides for a BBQ place, just bar food snacks is what they should call it. The hot slaw was made by dumping the cabbage in the bacon grease, no vinegar or seasoning. No smoked flavor in BBQ, bland sauce. No bourbon flavor in bourbon sauce. Kettle chips are very, very lightly salted. Only saving grace was Shot gun wedding beer and waitress. My husband was upset he didn't get his fries! read more

Went for Cincinnati burger week. Waited over an hour for the burger special that was supposed to be a half lb burger but was more like 1/4 lb and also was supposed to come with bacon but our waitress told us after we got the burgers that they were out of bacon. What bbq place runs out of bacon? Also ordered a side of vegetables which was two lousy pieces of cauliflower. The French fries were delicious and they only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one. BEST WINGS IN NKY/CIN. YES I SAID IT. BETTER BBQ THAN MONTGOMERY INN. YOU HEARD ME. We came here on a whim on our way to eat at Keystones. Saw this place was new and happened to peep the arcade games, pool table, and shuffleboard through the window. First of all, the layout of this place is awesome. The first floor has ample seating at the bar and dining room and MASS amounts of TV. Seriously, anything you want to watch - you can. The basement has pool tables, several old school arcade games, and shuffleboard. Let's talk about food - the smoked wings are A+. They aren't super meaty but the flavor is bomb. The sliders are also amazing- but I wish they offered full-sizes of all the sliders. Let's talk about beer. They have an extensive tap list INCLUDING Rhinegeist Bubbles which is my peanut butter my jelly and my jam. Rosé beer?! Love! And it is super hard to find. The beers were cold. The service was top notch. I only have one suggestion which is why I'm not giving 5 stars. In the basement is an awesome pour yourself tap beer system which, in theory, sounds pretty great. You get a preloaded card and can choose and pour your own beers. However, there is no indication (that we could find) on which kegs are empty and which kegs are at the bottom. I am a former bartender, and know when a keg is almost out (nothing but foam) which bartenders usually pour out for you at no charge. But, when you pour your own beer, that isn't taken into account so we spent $10 on foam. Also, at least 4 out of the 16ish taps were completely out but we were still charged for little drips. I would suggest installing a system that tells customers where the keg is .. like the "Digital Pour" system or something similar. If not, it's easy to feel ripped off down there. Another thing I would consider on the loaded cards is the ability to load money for beer AND games. That would be SUPER convenient. Overall this place rocks. Definitely check it out. read more

I have been here several times since it opened and have nothing but good to say about this place. The service, in my experience, has always been good even when there is a large crowd for games both at the bar and for table service. The selection of beers, whisky and other liquors is good but totally eclipsed by the selection of bourbons (I believe they are up to 120 now!) all of which are the perfect compliment to a good smoked meat meal. The food is excellent! I have had the burgers, the brisket and the smoked wings and have shared the crab cakes with a friend. I have yet to be disappointed and I'm pretty persnickety (read annoying)when it comes to both flavors and textures. The burger has always been just right at a medium rare, juicy but not raw. The brisket -- which I rarely order because in most places it is either full of slimy fat or so dry you can't choke it down -- was fantastic! Tender, full of flavor without being fatty; just perfect. The crab cakes were also very good. But my favorite is the smoked wings. They also have their original wings which are also really good, but the smoked . . . WOW! Perfectly done, smoky without being overpoweringly so; just the right balance. And, even better, you have at your table three different barbeques sauces to choose from and to mix and match to your taste. Personally, I love the mustard and the bourbon barbeque sauces together. Came in for the first time a few days ago and sat at the bar. Kim took excellent care of us. Everything she recommended from apps to dessert was delicious! She was really knowledgeable about the extensive bourbon menu and helped us decide what would fit our tastes best. We had our first trip to Smoke Justis and really enjoyed it. It is in Covington, near the river, so there were many people stopping in before the Reds' game. There are many metered spots nearby and you don't pay the meter after 5:00, so that was great. The smoked wings had a great flavor. The brisket chili is about the best chili we have ever had...and you get a full bowl for your $6.50. They had several beers on tap and even more by the bottle. We sat at one of their outside tables and were waited on right away and on a regular basis. Very good experience to share...it make we sign up for YELP, to counter some of the negative reviews we saw. read more

We were spending the weekend in Cincinnati and had some time to kill on a Sunday afternoon. We walked across the bridge to Kentucky just to see what we could see. There was a sidewalk sign that simply said, "BBQ, Bourbon, Beer" (Kudos to their marketing team!) I thought it was a trap, but we went inside anyway. Glad we took that chance! College basketball teams were playing to get into the Sweet 16, so I was happy to see a wall of TV's behind the bar. Outstanding tap selection. They have a wall of bourbon that requires a ladder to get to the top shelves. We ordered the pulled pork which was awesome! They even gave me a little sample of brisket so I could try it, just to see what I was missing. We're from Michigan...it was at that moment I realized that us northerners don't know how to prepare brisket. Cornbread was very good. French fries are made from scratch in house. Went there for lunch with a co-worker. Had the special which was ribs and chips. There was no way in the world the plastic knife and fork I was given would cut through them. VERY TOUGH I could only get about 4 bites of meat of them and it was tough and tasteless. I left the rest. My friend had the Pick 3 Sliders. Said the pork was good but the first bite of the turkey she had to spit in her napkin nothing but fat and the chicken tasted like cleaning solution.
