I have tried to dine at Shiners two times before this one. On weekends it is very busy and difficult to get a table. We ended up going on a weekday and were able to be sat immediately. They had live music playing that was very fun, and lots of tvs with sports playing. Overall, everything was just ok. The service was fine, the food wasn't anything over the top exciting. Maybe my expectations were really high since it was so difficult to get in before this, but I didn't really see what the hype was about in terms of the food. The vibe of the restaurant seems like a fun place to order apps and alcohol to watch a game or to have more of a bar atmosphere, but for a restaurant is was very middle of the road.

We returned tonight and there was nobody there on a Friday night and it didn't take long to figure out why. My sweet tea was pure simple syrup and clear, my husband's old fashioned was terrible and all three of us had ice cold food. My pulled pork was honestly not edible. It was a big, cold chunk of meat - I left almost all of it on my plate along with the half cooked, cold French fries. The server didn't ask if I wanted a box or if there was a problem - he didn't care. It was a disaster of a meal and would never go back!

First Take - Huge place inside and outdoor seating. Looks like a great place to watch a live game and even a stage for live music (none when I was there, but potential). Service was excellent, kind people and very prompt when checking back in on me. Kudos to the front of the house, and the only reason this isn't a 1. Feasting - The BBQ is the worst I've ever had. Had the brisket and the ribs lunch plate, and they were just awful. Brisket was all fat, almost as if it was trimmed in reverse then thrown on a smoker. Flavor of the bark had potential but boy it was bad. The ribs, don't waste your time. Imagine the worst ribs you can imagine, have them sit in the sun and then tossed in a dry rub. Baked beans were great actually, and so was the Loaded Baked Potato. Green beans were likely out of a can, and the Brussels sprouts actually had a good flavor as well. Do not, I truly mean do not go for the Mac. Final Words - I am sure there's got to be something good here as it's such a huge establishment, it just wasn't good to me--especially coming from Texas. Pro Tip - Try the burger, saw several folks order that and it looked decent.

First of all this place is huge. They have outdoor seating, a beautiful bar, a stage and seating suitable for groups. We sat outside and it was a gorgeous night. The food is amazing. When you walk in the smells grab your attention. Our friends got the grill out which is enough food for a crowd and their version of potato skins. Yummy. I got the chick and pic the best chicken sandwich ever. My hubby got the brisket. We were all happy.

What a fun little bar. The food was the most surprising, it was really, really good. The atmosphere was a little dull for a weeknight ( we were hoping for line dancing, but none the night we went). We were with a group of about 10 and our server handled our larger group effortlessly. I wasn't terribly hungry so I just ordered a couple of sliders with fries and they were simple and delish (not dry like sliders sometimes end up). A friend of mine ordered a salad and let me tell you, it was GORGEOUS and TASTY (of course I tried it). The presentation was shockingly beautiful and felt almost out of place in this country bar/restaurant, which is what made it so amazing. I'm sure I'll be back!

Awesome bbq smoked right on site! Great service and plenty of drink options, featuring Old Smokey Moonshine! (Honest... didn't try at lunch!) Great big stage, can't wait to see some live music right here on the Levee! So for a first visit, super impressed and can't wait to be back.

Some friends and I wanted to hang out, so someone suggested Shiners on the Levee. I wanted to like it, but this place left me feeling it was just "OK". Shiners is not hard to find, thanks to the bright signage, and inside was pretty clean. The hostess was friendly and I was able to find my friends easily. Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, which we really appreciated. The prices were a little higher than I had expected, but I had figured the portions would make up for it. One friend ordered a Pork Chop with Mashed Potatoes and the other, a Grilled Reuben with a Fried Pork Chop on it. I ordered a Shiner Cheeseburger (single patty) with Sweet Potato Fries. We waited for our food, as our server refilled my Coca-Cola and my friends' beers. I previously mentioned the portions would justify the higher than expected price. For my friends' food, it did, but not for mine. Their food portion was much larger than mine, (both meat and potatoes). My fries were sparse and my burger was quite small. Both items I had were not very flavorful, and the bill was pretty high. I was well disappointed but tried to look on the bright side: I was with friends in an environment we could talk in. The twist came with the "Potato Barrels" I had ordered to go. I brought these home, and my family LOVED them. These appetizers were like loaded potato skins, but with FULL FLAVOR! They were so good, I had wished I had ordered these instead of my burger and fries. Location, environment and the Potato Barrels are the best things at Shiners on the Levee. I hope Shiners would consider suggesting items for people who like larger portions, or a full plate.

JENNA IS THE BEST!!! Literally such an angel and gave us the best service ever. Makes me wants to come back!!!

Nice spot in Newport had some good food and great service, my waitress Maggie did a wonderful job. The place has a nice vibe so definitely stop by if you in the area.

    "Goetta bites"

We visited on Saturday, at 130 and no servers to take your order. You have to order at the bar with one bartender. Awful experience. Moonshine flights come in a plastic cup and there are no changing tables in the restrooms to change your child. We ordered the goetta bites and they are goetta hotdogs chopped into pieces.

    Great atmosphere!

This place is a must try! We stopped in for lunch and definitely will be back to check out the live music. The staff greeted us and helped with all our questions. We shared the sampler and ordered a couple sides. Everything we tried tasted amazing! The sauces were a great bonus! Loved the sampler arriving on a small grill - so unique.

Get your shine on at Shiners on the Levee! Just opened about a month ago, they serve up great food and awesome drinks-all with a side of live music! We came for lunch, so too early for music- but just in time for a Bloody Mary! The food was great- we ordered the Shiners' Shorty- a pulled pork sandwich and Big Bad Wolf which basically had a bit of every meat they offered, brisket on top of that and the Esquites Poblano, which is like a deconstructed elote stuffed in a poblano pepper. FREAKIN FANTASTIC!!

I highly recommend the Mac an Cheese!

Mac and cheese bowl with turkey and collard greens were incredible. Very large portions, so be prepared to share or take home leftovers.

We're eager…read moreto find a top-tier burger place in the area, though unfortunately this fell a little short of our expectations. Decided to split the Silver Charm for an appetizer, and it came about ten minutes later. The onion rings were decent, good flavor and somewhat crispy. The accompanying sauces of barbecue and ranch were both good as well, though both were missing something to elevate them a bit more I think. The flavor was good, but quite a small portion for $10. My wife ordered the Strike the Gold Burger and I went for the Northern Dancer Crispy Chicken. The sandwiches came out about ten minutes after we finished the Silver Charm, which was perfect timing. She liked her burger pretty well, and I took a bite too. The "caramelized onions" were definitely more sauteed, with still a bit of crunch, and otherwise I could really only taste the barbecue sauce, which was tasty, but I would have liked some more varied flavors. My chicken sandwich was... a bit disappointing. Rather than a chicken piece that appropriately fit the bun, it was more of a chicken strip, with bites that would only yield bun. In addition, because the chicken piece was so small, it was also extremely dry, which is a bummer because I actually thought the breading was very tasty. The chipotle aioli was decent, but didn't pack as much spice or flavor as I was hoping. And with only two toppings and a sauce on the whole sandwich, I was disappointed that the tomato was rather mushy and didn't seem fresh. I will say the fries that came with our sandwiches were crisp and well seasoned, and somewhat unfortunately the best part of my meal. Based on our experience, I didn't hate our dinner here and if someone invited me to meet them here, I wouldn't say no, but I'm also not going out of my way to revisit.

Fun place to eat and a good vibe. Nice crowd for a Saturday afternoon in January…read more Our waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable about the distilled products and also about the area. Food was pretty good, but the meat on my burger was small. I subbed out a salad for the fries, and the salad was unremarkable for the $5 substitution charge. But it was still a fun way to pass the time and the distilling and horse memorabilia is fun to look at. 4/26
