Cute restaurant name -- it definitely grabs your attention, which is what brought us in. I was…read moreexpecting a full restaurant, but as the name suggests, it's definitely a café. It's a small, intimate space with about six booth seats (three on each side), plus some outdoor seating. Now, let's talk about the food. We ordered the oxtail dinner, which comes with two sides (mac and cheese and Cajun corn), and the beef tips with rice. I have to say, the mac and cheese and Cajun corn were a solid 5/5 -- I would absolutely order those again! The oxtail was just okay -- a bit bland, and you only get two pieces for a $40 plate. Not bad, but I've definitely had better. The beef tips and rice, however, were on point. Customer service was a 5/5 -- very pleasant and welcoming. I'd recommend trying it for yourself, especially if you're a fan of soul food.3 en

While…read moreI expected a bit of a wait (about 20 minutes) since items are made to order, the quality of the food was a major letdown. What I ordered: Oxtails and gravy, catfish with Chicken Pasta and green beans. The Issues: * The Oxtails: Received 3 oxtails in my order that were noticeably overcooked, and it was clear the gravy had been added as an afterthought after the cooking process rather than being cooked with the meat. * Missing Items: I ordered the catfish and pasta, but they completely forgot my side. * Overall Value: Between the execution of the main dishes and the service oversight, the experience just wasn't there. Didn't finish the meal. Final Verdict: Waste of $50. I definitely would not recommend this spot and won't be returning. It's a classic case of a place being overhyped on social media.

Unfortunately, my experience did not quite match the hype. I ordered the fried catfish fillet with collard greens, and while the meal was decent enough to eat, it was nothing particularly memorable. The catfish was cooked through, but it lacked the seasoning and crispy texture I usually expect from good southern-style fried fish. It tasted fairly plain and could have benefited from more flavor overall. The collard greens were also disappointing, as they seemed underseasoned and did not have the rich homemade taste that many people rave about in similar restaurants. The staff was courteous and the restaurant itself appeared clean and organized, so I can appreciate the effort in customer service. However, based on the food quality alone, I was left feeling underwhelmed considering the strong reviews and recommendations I had seen beforehand. It was not a terrible experience, but it also was not impressive enough to make me eager to return.

The smoke from the kitchen basically consumed the dining area and was very irritating. It eventually dissipated after a while, but I wouldn't recommend infants in this environment. After our party was seated, it took 15-20 min before our waiter greeted us and provided water; that was a bit annoying. After we got our orders in, things were smooth sailing from there. We were a large party and our waiter did a pretty good job at managing us and all of our requests. Food: they do not waste time bringing the food out. Most of our orders came out within 10 minutes! I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib. I also ordered a side of black eyed peas... also not a fan. It was undercooked and I didn't love whatever seasoning was used to prepare it. Other items I tried: Fries, Cornbread, Yams, and Soul Rolls. These were all tasty, specifically the soul roll. It came out crispy, hot, and stuff proportionately. I could take every bit of what was inside. It's definitely a must try.
