I called Smith Thompson Home security to get my new home secured with the existing alarm system. A technician came out and was very rude and was either lazy and did not want to do my requests that I requested from the sales man before his visit or was not knowledgeable of alarm systems. The technician said I would not be able to secure all of the windows in my house because their company does not do that and No companies do that except ADT and I would spend thousands of dollars to get that done. Meanwhile he did not make suggestions for glass breaks or any other options to fit my needs. I was the one asking for other options. I then asked about getting fire alarms to be set up for fire monitoring and he said that in order for him to install and for the company to monitor fire that my house would need to be up to fire code. I then asked if my house was up to fire code and he said no. He then explained that now a days houses cannot go on the market if they are not up to fire code. I then explained that I just purchased my house. He then tried to cover up the lie he just told. OR he just did not know the facts. I decided this company would not fit my needs since I kept hearing the answer NO, NO, NO. I nicely explained that to the technician and he said " did you not speak to our salesman about what you were looking for"? I explained that I did explain what i was looking for which was fire security alarms and my house secured 100%. He took down the keypads he replaced and the panel in my front closet. I noticed he was getting ready to leave and had not put the two keypads and panel back that he took down. I asked him if he was going to put them back on and he said No. I asked him why and he said " I do not get paid to put back other peoples equipment". DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY...THEY WILL SEND TECHNICIANS THAT ARE RUDE AND NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY... Saving less per month is not worth it when you have to deal with bad customer service. read more

I've used Smith Thompson the last five years. Prompt service, excellent prices and friendly people. I pay for my monitoring yearly, but only because it's cheaper. I'm pretty sure you can go month to month. I checked into ADT for similar services when I moved in as they had previously monitored the system and their prices for repairing my existing system and for monitoring were easily double. Smith Thompson is local too, which is a plus. They are highly recommended. read more

Smith Thompson is easy to deal with and the installation process was efficient. The technician came when he said he would and walked me through what I was getting with my new service. He explained in detail my system and made me feel good about what I was getting that made me feel safe for my family home. I highly recommend if your looking for a affordable security option. read more

When I told my husband I wanted to get an alarm system he started to do some research and chose Smith Thompson originally for the great reviews and the lowest prices. Since we hadn't previously had an alarm system, I wasn't quite used to turning the alarm off before letting our dog outside in the morning. Talk about an alarm clock - that sucker was LOUD! Whoops guess the husband was up now. I started freaking out on the way to turn the alarm off because I know that they are going to be calling my husbands phone first and he was asleep, probably not after the alarm went off though. Luckily I had my phone with me because it started ringing instantly since my husband didn't answer his phone- they were very concerned for my safety and asked multiple questions to make sure we were ok. I was freaking out by how fast they called because if I didn't have my phone on me I wouldn't have been able to answer it in time, however, If there really was a problem I would be very thankful by how quickly they were on top of contacting both of us. I feel much more comfortable knowing they are watching our home. read more

Smith and Thompson have been friendly, accommodating, and attentive from the time of installation to now. Their response time is so quick, as we had to find out after a few false alarms when we have accidentally set off the alarm. I have no complaints about this company. read more

My wife and I were not pleased with our home security company. We started shopping around to make a change and several of our friends recommended Smith Thompson Home Security. I gave them a call and was impressed with their no sales pressure approach. They just simply told me what they do and how much it would cost. We signed up with them and they sent a gentleman out to hook us up. He was very clean cut, courteous and respectful. He explained everything to me and did a great job showing me how to use the new keypad. I highly recommend Smith Thompson Home Security. They were great to work with and we are glad we chose them! read more

I called this company early am due to a prob with my alarm. The tech could not fix it on the phone. He took my phone #'s, said he would be out that day & call b4 he came. I called around 1:30 to check the status of the call and was connected to Mr Thompson. He was very abrupt, told me the price of the part and wanted to schedule an appointment. When I told him a tech had already scheduled it and asked him to check, he accused me of being upset, which I wasn't. Each time I tried to interject information or calm him down, He interrupted me and refused to listen to anything I had to say. He launched into a tirade... informing me how unappreciative I was of his service, my equipment was junk, parts were almost impossible to find for it and that even though it would be difficult, he would be able to meet my needs. By simply requesting a service call and a request to check the status of a call that had been made earlier, I was basically informed I was an unappreciative ingrate that was nothing more than a pain to him and I was told 2 times during the conversation, I could take my business elsewhere. I have no idea what set this man off, but he obviously views his customers as servants to him that dont deserve the honor of allowing him to provide his services. I would NOT use this company again if the service was free. Also, the company that fixed the alarm, sold the part at half the price Mr. Thompson quoted me and said the parts were readily availabe and off the shelf. read more

Did any of the reviewers here had any real burglary attempts? I have Smith Thompson security. My house was broken into while I was on vacation. My neighbor called me next day to say my house was broken into. I called the police and they dispatched the officer. When the officer came in, alarm was STILL ON. I know I turned the alarm on when we left the house. So far, Smith Thompson haven't owned up to the incident!! I only have the option to take them to the court now. Not sure how successful I will be, but will try. So I been paying them all these years for nothing! Except for an installer to show up on time to do a lip service! Horrible!! read more

Great communication and service all the way. Very impressed with our technician, skilled and very helpful in answering all the questions we had on the system and the operation of it. Very happy with our alarm and totally the best value for your money out there. read more

Hired this company for our new home, very happy with the service so far! Technician was very helpful and efficient. I definitely like their app and the emails I get every time somebody sets the alarm on or off. read more

We wanted an alternative to the big "contract" companies. A friend recommended Smith Thompson and we couldn't be happier. From the first phone call, I knew I had chosen the right company. They were extremely informative and courteous. The technician who came out was wonderful! He was prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. We've had our system for a couple months lately. We've set off a few "false alarms" getting used to having it, and they are always immediately responsive with calling and so friendly when I tell them it was an accident! I love the freedom of a great security company with no insane monthly payment and long term contract!! I HIGHLY recommend Smith Thompson! read more

Great price; no contracts, and a faster response time if a burglary would happen in our home. Thanks so much!

Going with Smith Thompson was a no brainer. The price is the best in the market (Dallas Ft. Worth) for monitoring and there is no contract. I have always had a good experience when calling customer service. read more

We highly recommend Smith Thompson Home Security. We became their clients when we switched our landline-based ADT system to their cell phone-based system at our rental home. Changing companies and systems was quick and efficient, and we began saving money immediately. We've been so impressed with their service that we recently switched our home security system also. Once again Smith Thompson came through with a top-quality technician who easily and inexpensively switched our system. We've mistakenly triggered the alarm several times and their callback times were very fast. Two thumbs up for Smith Thompson. read more

I love the price of monitoring service the most: $16.95/month. Some other company is a few bucks lower but I'm not sure how their equipment and monitoring service work. The technician was very helpful and knows his trade, and he answered all my questions cheerfully. He was quick too. We have had 2 false alarms so far and each time the 'check call' came in within 1 minute of the going-off alarm. The old company we used did not even call in once or twice after the false alarm going off, so, so far Smith Thompson performed and delivered as they promised. I'm happy with this company's service very much read more

We chose Smith Thompson based on the great customer service reviews. After being a customer for 2.5 years I felt it was time to share my experience. They do an exceptional job and love the month to month service and no three year contract! They were on time, installed a new alarm with care and great work. The basic package is also a great deal if you need a new system. They even called me back to work me in the next day after they had a cancellation. I've used them in a past home too and they did a great job then as well. They don't do any high pressure sales tactics. I called around to shop the competition and they are bar far trustworthy and get the job done well. read more

We have used Smith Thompson Home Security at two different homes now and have had family members and co-workers sign up as well. The price... as well as not having a multi-year contract sold us at first.... but what we have been most impressed with is the service! Our recent installer Shawn was excellent! He customized our security system and took several things into account. Safety was number one but he also made sure the devices he used were in areas where they didn't detract from the home we just renovated. For example, he made sure the big break sensor boxes were as out of sight as possible yet still being highly functional. It was nice to meet someone like Shawn who loves their job! It showed!! 5 stars for Shawn! read more

I was initially leery about the initial low install and monthly costs affiliated with Smith Thompson. However, we had a great install tech who listened to our concerns and made sure we got the right system in place and that we were properly trained to use it. In our first month we had a couple of accidental alarms and we were called immediately. For the service we receive and the cost involved, we felt like going with Smith Thompson was the best choice for us. We are very pleased with our system and I highly recommend Smith Thompson! read more

I wanted additional capability added to my existing home security equipment that Smith Thompson installed in my new home recently. During the call with their service department, they clearly explained what equipment was available and how it would be installed to meet my needs. They reviewed the estimated cost with me and determined an installation schedule that was convenient to me. This was certainly easier and more thorough than customer service calls I have had with other businesses. read more

Horrible service! I did not receive a bill for last quarter, received notice in Jan 2013 requesting pmt which I promptly paid. Then I was informed that I will be charged $25 to reactivate service. I spoke with customer svc lady who was rude and condescending. Dec 2012, my alarm went off and NO ONE from the company ever called to check on me. No wonder so cheap, u get what u pay for! read more

I had Smith Thompson Security for an year paid the whole amount of $201.83 at the time of service but when I requested to terminate service they started talking all jargon about one month notice. The staff and their management appears to be so rude, worse than bill collectors, they called me names Jack ....something so condescending and inappropriate in their telephone manners and ethics. It is a shame that the public should put up with this kind of company. I urge everyone to shun away from them and trash their coupon the moment you get them in the mail. read more

I was very happy with this service for a while, but when we moved, things changed. The tech who came out to set up service in our new home was late and very rude. I was trying to manage moving in, my children, and setting up an alarm system. He kept demanding that I ignore everything but him and sign paperwork without reading it. I asked him to wait a few minutes so that I could give him my full attention. Within 2 minutes he set the alarm off, terrifying my autistic toddler, and left it running while I had to search the house for him. I eventually had to call a supervisor at the office, who was rude to me on the phone as well. This service is cheap and does not require a home phone, but don't expect customer service if you need anything. I'm glad we cancelled ours. read more

Installation was a breeze, no salesman BS, just what you needed. Why pay other company like XDT for $44.00 plus tax when you can get it in less than 20 dollars using the same technology? The best part is that there is no contract, so I can cut the cord anytime. read more

So far so good! I just moved last week to Prosper, Tx which is north of Plano/Frisco. This company was recommended to us by a police detective friend that uses them for his own home. I liked the price and no requirement for a long contract. The technician was on time, polite, friendly, and explained everything. I haven't had a need to contact them yet for anything, but I has a very pleasant experience with the installation process. I'm sure they will do great! read more

This company has to be among the worst alarm monitoring companies I have ever dealt with. They act like it's an imposition to deal with the customer. I suppose you get what you pay for. They may be among the least expensive, but that price comes with many drawbacks not the least of which is poor customer service, a phone system staffed with rude unprofessional people and managers, and sub standard monitoring equipment. My house was burglarized and their motion detectors did not work. I called to inform them and was treated like I was at fault. I never received an apology from them. BUYER BEWARE with these people...there is a reason they act like they dont need your business. They were very quick to let me know they were not in the insurance business which indicates to me this is not the first time their equipment and monitoring service has failed a customer. read more

This is a very professional alarm company. We have used this company for years without difficulty or problems. We have not had any issues.

Not the right company to have a relationship with in case you are service oriented and prefer to be treated professionally. Had several issues during installation. One of their tech's was downright rude and unprofessional to my 60plus year old handyman - who drove over 20 miles to be there for their tech. as they wanted us to keep them access to the walls to attach the wires. Which meant he had to burst holes in the walls to do so. While he was doing that the tech was on the cell phone all the time and then all of a sudden he got impatient with us and spoke down to the handyman. When he began to raise his voice - I asked him to leave the premises - before things would escalate. When the next guy arrived - he said that there was no need to make those holes in the walls as were were going the wireless route. But then he could not finish the job as he lacked a couple of wireless door contacts. Apologized for it and then said he would bring some when they arrived to the company. Had to call them a couple of times to remind them that the doors were still insecure. Finally another tech arrives to complete the job. He puts them in, checks the system and then leaves. Today I receive a bill for $138.58 instead of $42.22. They basically tacked on a service charge for the tech to bring the sensors and a couple of other things. I call their billing and their service manger - who has always spoken down and rudely to me - lack of respect and professionalism once again - and said we either pay up or they will cancel the service. I did leave a message for Mr. Ryan Thompson a co-owner of the company to bring this issue to is notice as sometimes the owners do not know what is happening and try and fix things when they can. So basically, here is my take on this company. Yes they affordable, well established, growing market share and no contract needed. But they are no longer the small town business guys - so we are basically a number, they can treat us rudely, impatiently (as all their technicians - always told me - oh we have about 70 installs and our next appointment would be 2 weeks from now - so you better work around our schedules). I am hoping that some of the smaller companies join forces and resources and start nibbling at the cheese. There is a lot of business out there and I just spoke to another of ST's disgruntled customers this morning and he too is looking to change. Treat your customers with respect and dignity and they will reward you with loyalty and profits. read more

I install their service for my house, but I notice when the alarm is triggered, no phone calls. What a business?

Beware! Very bad customer service. They're fine if you never need any help... But if there are any problems or concerns, they do not help. Rosemary is very disrespectful. Disappointed that they treated a long time customer like this. Do not use this company! read more

No clear expectation on when to expect a call from dispatch once the alarm sounds. I tripped the alarm accidentally this morning and no one called to confirm. Not an issue, I called their customer service to get a better understanding of what to expect so that I can prepare my family accordingly. When I got someone on the line they were disinterested in answering my quesitons on what SLA was written in the contract. They literally told me "I dont know, go call sales". I asked to speak to a supervisor and they gave me the same type of answer in a tone that seemed very disinterested and uncaring of the customer's concern. "We are just dispatch, we dont know what your SLA is" is what the supervisor told me. How does a dispatch supervisor not know the entire process front to back so that they can understand where the dispatches are coming from? Terrible experience in a day where customer service is what sets you apart from the rest of the pack. I dont look for the cheapest when I shop for things like security. I look for the best value. Even though Smith Thompson is a competitive price, I am inclined to take my business elsewhere to a company that at least acts like they care about the safety of my family. read more

I want to say I believe Dr. Dan A. First, I'm waiting for Mr. Thompson to get back to the office in 4 days and I'm reading Mr. Thompsons reply thinking as an owner of a company that is NO way to respond to a customer. What if he just moved from California and now needs alarm service here in Texas but hasn't changed his yelp info yet? Customer service is definatly not a top priority for this company as the owner searches for answers to why this guy is lying instead of fixing the problem! Now as to why I think he is really telling the truth...Today Im supposed to get a technician between 1 and 3 to turn on service at my new real estate office. At 12:30 ish he calls and says he will be there at one. This is after a 2 week wait because they were backed up! So I tell the tech. that Im running a bit behind on an appointment and I should be there soon after 1. He tells me he will call me back. His manager Colin Lynn calls at 1:20 ish and says they have to cancel because I couldn't make my 1:00. I gave them 2 weeks and 20 minutes into the appointment they cancel on me. Then Colin says the next available is next monday. I tried to get him to understand that Ive waited 2 weeks already and that this isn't fair and he said sorry we have 12 techs and they are busy. That would make 3 weeks with out alarm! Then when I call to talk to a manager they want to transfer me to Colin and they tell me he is the only manager other than the owner Mark Thompson. Mark is out of town and I decided to talk to Colin again. He doesn't answer and it goes to his voicemail which I left a message saying I would like him to make this right as this is no way to treat a customer and that Mark would hear about this if he didn't as this was a total poor display of customer service by a manager. He called me back and puts the icing on the cake for the image of the company. He says "No need to get mark involved in this I'll make it right." I said ok so your going to get my service turned on today? He said "No, that was sarcastic. Because you threatened me call mark and tell me what he says." I couldn't believe this company is represented by such an unprofessional employee as Colin Lynn. You get what you pay for!! How is Colin Lynn's team going to handle a breach? Pay a few dollars more for a good company that will treat you right don't give your money to this company, they forget who pays their pay checks! read more
