Remarkable fragrance in this place. Since Covid, I've had very reduced ability to smell, but I could definitely smell the amazing fragrance inside of here. The shop is very organized and visually pleasing. Staff members were delightful. We ordered a hibiscus iced tea, a latte, a slice of carrot cake, and a chocolate chip cookie, and all were amazing. Parking is rough. We went around the block about a half dozen times before we finally scored a place, so it may be worth it to park a few blocks away and walk over.

Our first time here did not disappoint. My friend and I both got tea flights so we could try a few things. The staff was super helpful and friendly and the service was quick! Their outdoor seating was a nice touch since it was a lovely day outside.

Such a fun spot to stop by and grab a refreshing tea! They have a lot of variations to choose from. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is amazing! I love the interior color of this establishment.

I will always stop here when I visit Portland. Smith is my go-to tea brand and I love this tasting room/cafe. Seating is limited, but it's often less busy when they first open. The baristas are so knowledgeable about tea and the flights are great for discovering your new favorite blend. It's so interesting to see the Smith employees working in the back, creating and packaging blends. (They have a limited pastry selection!)

We have been meaning to hit this place up for some time now, and it doesn't disappoint! We even found a new flavor to take home! Not all of the teas were for me, and that's what makes this place so great! The opportunity to taste them all without having to commit to a whole box of tea! Loved the staff, very knowledgeable Tea Sommeliers with a gen-tea-l dedication to tea! Seating is close so you hear all the tea, from everyone. The place was up beat, clean and neat, and all about the tea. Edit: we went to the one in nob hill.

Cheese and tea tasting

Took my parents here after spending time in downtown Portland since we wanted to enjoy tea and late snacks before our next stop. I've brought other friends here before so I knew it was going to be good. The tea shop is super quaint and they have samples of tea leaves you can smell and create a tasting flight for. What caught our eye was their charcuterie (essentially their cheese and tea tasting flight). The cheese comes from Cowbell (nearby local Portland cheese shop) and is paired with green and oolong teas. What a treat! It was quite affordable (around 20) and the four of us had enough bites and tea. We were pretty full so didn't have enough space for their baked treats, which I recall go really well with their teas. This is a stop you shouldn't miss. So affordable and a good stopping point for a light snack while you're in the area

Lovely place. We enjoyed their summer seasonal offering there Will definitely return here - cozy and tranquil place to relax...

Last year's visit- picture of the Tea on Tap Flight

If you're visiting Portland, Smith Teamaker is a must to stop by for a cup of tea or tea on tap. Last year when I visited it was a very hot day and the tea on tap flight was so refreshing and tasty. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, tea room, and shop! Our tasting was very unique and pleasant. The four different pours were lovely. I have never had a tea with effervescence, which they refer to as "fruitsmithing"- fruits and spices with bubbles. I learned about cold steeping iced tea. The process of using cold water reduces bitterness and highlights the sweetness of the tea leaves. Last week when I visited the shop I had the newest blackberry jasmine iced tea. I loved it so much that I bought a bag to take home with me. This seasonal green tea is so pretty and ranges from a blue sparkling sapphire to a darker blue like butterfly pea flower. The tea makers, employees, are nice and really are experts with their knowledge and brewing skills.

I'm in love, hands down no questions asked in love. Had my first visit in and asked the lovely staff to create me a flight based on their favorites. They asked me a few questions and then selected three exquisite teas for me to try while I enjoyed my delectable almond croissant. I wouldn't have tried 1912 on my own and now it is my new favorite! I do recommend a reservation as this location is quaint and fills up but I got there prior to opening and was able to be seated.

We had the best time at Smith Teamaker! We both got flights, one was their on tap flight and the other was a flight hot tea that the barista helped curate based on our preferences. They were super knowledgeable about all the different types of tea and gave amazing recommendations. While we were waiting for our tea we walked around and checked out the store area. It was really cute and had a great selection of teas. The tea was really good and we had a great time visiting!

An absolute must stop for me in Portland. As an avid tea drinker this is heaven. I can explore, shop, enjoy all at once. This location is also my favorite of theirs. I like the industrial setting and that it is their manufacturing facility also. Sometimes I just pick up a large bag of loose leaf tea and sometimes I get a specialty drink to go. But occasionally I take my time and enjoy a tea flight. Recently I did one of their holiday blends. Sooo goood!

We decided to visit Smith Teamaker after visiting Bob's Red Mill's flagship store and smelling the bulk teas for sale. The jars of tea were so aromatic that it prompted us to look up the supplier, Steven Smith Teamaker. Many tea rooms only offer tastings after registering for a class or making a reservation; this shop, on the other hand, offers tea flights at any time. We were intrigued enough to head over immediately after leaving Bob's Red Mill. Flight ($12.50) - This comes with three cups of tea, of which we went with the Rose Genmaicha, Snowflake Oolong, and the Phoenix Oolong. The teamaker expertly prepares the teas, soaking the bags at just the right water temperature and time to bring out all the latent flavors. The Rose Genmaicha starts with a flowery rose taste before transitioning to more of a roasty toasty rice taste towards the bottom of the cup due to the particulates residing on the bottom. The Snowflake Oolong is light, but very pleasant to drink. It has the classic oolong flavor, but has almost a bit of tropical fruitiness and sweetness undertones. Very delicious. Finally, the Phoenix Oolong has a bit of an astringency, not enough to make me pucker, but enough to make me understand why they claim it's velvety. I can see the resemblance. This oolong is definitely more oxidized and exhibits has some pleasant berry notes. I'm not sure I would say lingonberry like the description states, but definitely berry-like. This was my favorite of the bunch. The teamakers provide water to clear the palette between sips. For those who don't like drinking plain tea, syrup can be add a la carte to sweetness preference. Behind one of the glass doors, we could see tea tasters sipping tea and spitting it out into buckets. They certainly take their teas seriously! Smith Teamaker is a place to hang out and leisurely sip tea while reading a book or otherwise relaxing. I highly recommend a visit for anyone with an interest in tea at all. I am already planning a revisit for their gaiwan tea experience, something I haven't seen offered before at a tea shop. I'm excited to see how the characteristics of the teas change with subsequent infusions! Bathrooms: Single unisex room. Certainly required as three cups of tea will make anyone super hydrated!

Tea on tap descriptors. The jasmine peach was my favorite.

Best tea ever. Green and black. Plus, excellent recipes on their social media. Now, that's the only tea we drink.

This reminds me of the Korean cafes that are sprinkled all over Southern California. We were delighted to see it here! I ordered a black sesame late and a black sesame mochi donut. Being only one barista, right after you order, he makes your drink immediately. You can hear and see the espresso shots being made and the ice filling your cups. Dependent on your order, he pulls out the cream for the top. I can see the black sesame cream top being very thick and full. A lot of patrons were ordering their tiramisu latte, and I don't blame them! It's what is very popular here. Personally, I enjoyed the black sesame latte very much. It was the perfect amount of cream and sweetness. The taste didn't overpower the coffee, which is nice. Their mochi donuts were good, too, with the consistency of mochi dough. Definitely would make another stop here if I'm ever around!

They are located outdoors within a repurposed trimet station, which add such a a unique Portland touch to their vibe. Although usually a 1-2 person operation, drinks always come out relatively quick! I tried the tiramisu latte and the black sesame latte. The tiramisu latte was easily my favorite. The cream top is rich and delicious, and when mixed into the coffee it really tastes like a classic tiramisu dessert. It's sweet, smooth, and feels like a treat without being overwhelming. The black sesame latte was also great, especially if you like nutty flavors. It has a natural sweetness with a deep roasted sesame taste that almost reminds me of peanut butter, making it both comforting and unique. I've also had their regular latte before and really appreciate the quality of their espresso. The coffee itself has a smooth, balanced flavor that stands out even without added syrups or toppings. A great spot to visit if you enjoy creative specialty drinks but still want genuinely good coffee underneath it all.
