My husband loves him some Vinyl and if he knows a store exists in that city , rest assured he is driving there . Lucky for us this wasn't a drive and is very conveniently located in downtown .Really amazing collection and apart from vinyl they also have, CDs , audio equipment ,DVDs, posters and Blu-ray's. There was also a listening station which I found to be really fun. The staff was alright , I wouldn't call them the friendliest because they kept suspiciously looking at me as I mostly just hung out while my husband did the shopping but overall it's a nice store if you are looking for records that aren't too high quality . read more

An abysmal store staffed by sad man babies. I walked in and didn't see their "no food / drinks" sign. Within two seconds, the guy comes out from behind the counter and speed walks right up to me. Instead of an "excuse me..." or "hey, would you mind...," I get a "the table over there would be a good place for THAT," referring to my coffee cup. I ask if it would be alright to hold on to it, as I had a lid on it and it was a cold / rainy day. As soon as I say this, the hardcore guy stocking records spins around and says, "We're not joking!" while giving me a death stare lol. I laughed and walked out. Clearly, they both have much deeper personal issues that cause this kind of behavior. The store itself features a paltry selection of overpriced new normie records and crud-rific used records of the Broadway Musical / Big Band variety. Not even one star. TERRIBLE location absolutely NO parking, extremely hidden, selection is absolutely few and far between and it's all stuff nobody want to listen to like 75% of the store! Also the phone number doesn't work so you can't even call to place orders!! Posters and dvds are still available. They are the last sizeable non-thrift cd store in the city. I went here a couple weeks back and have to say the atmosphere of the shop was very nice and I really enjoyed being there, I purchased two records, Operation: Doomsday by MF DOOM and Currents, by Tame Impala, in the case of the MF DOOM record it played perfectly, not a single skip or weird sounding bit across both sides of both records, however the Tame Impala record ran me into some issues, only one side of each record would play without frequent and consistent skips. I do recommend this shop overall because even if there are skips on any record you may buy, the employees are very willing to help. read more

Good place to browse through records, compact discs, posters, etc.. Large selection of all of the above. I would give them 5 stars but prices are pretty standard retail prices not really discounted. I have found some good deals on old merchandise however. Had some cool finds on Record Store Day too, better choices than the other record store had on that day. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I never knew buying a record player had so many components (and maybe it's not actually as confusing as I made it) but they helped explain everything and helped pick out my first setup. I have been back multiple times for records and every person working there is so nice and friendly. THEN- best part- two months after buying my player it stopped working so after trying myself, I finally Facebook messaged them hoping for some help. They replied in minutes and fixed the problem even faster. Highly recommend this place for their people and products. read more

UPDATE 11.27.20 Smith Rock Records has had a few months of operating under the new owner and I have decided to update my review from 2 stars to 3.5 (I'll give a half star bump on the official rating. I still stand by much of what I said in my initial review (I hope they didn't take offense), but I'd like to add a few things. 1. They are doing COVID right. I really appreciate the attention to detail and keeping Smith Rock a safe place for all. 2. They really do Record Store Day exceptionally well. The friendliness, the customer service--it's really top notch and everything a record store should be. Even with COVID, I got a free old stock 7' from a previous RSD just for waiting in line. 3. Generally, I think calling their prices bullish was maybe a little unfair on my part. They have the occasional head scratcher to me--but, I don't think it's too out of line since they are the only record store in Central Oregon. 4. I like some of the changes in the layout to the store. New releases, 45's...all of that is positive. Where I still think they can improve is just used vinyl selection. I do not have any insight into their buying practices, but they just really don't have a lot of good used vinyl--or any in the genres I collect (jazz, soul, some German krautrock). I check every couple of weeks and usually leave empty handed. I'll keep digging. I really wish they would take the time to stock new labels that are producing excellent reissues or new music. The Blue Note Tone Poet series or 80th anniversary or the Mofi or Analogue Productions reissues. They are pricey, but are the closest things to original and sourced from tapes--the whole benefit to an analog setup. There is a market for good jazz in this town, I know I'm not the only collector. I'd be stocking all of the Tone Poets if it were me...and I'd even play some of them on the store system--you might find some new fans of jazz. I don't think I've ever heard jazz being played in store in the past 4 years. On RSD--many of those jazz releases are hot commodities. Thanks so much for the Bill Evans this AM--and I know you had 3-4 copies and the rest went right out the door behind me--good jazz will always have a strong market anywhere. Soul labels like Colemine and all of their related labels. The modern soul scene is huge right now! Stock the LP's and 45's--again, I think they'd be surprised at how well these would sell. A lot of these bands come to Central Oregon on tours too (Delvon Lamarr, Monophonics, Polyrhythmics, Orgone) and Durand Jones and the Indications opened at Les Schwab last June. They have other genres on lock down, but I'd like to see them become a more well rounded record store with their new selection. I don't want to do 90% of my new record shopping on Amazon. Smith Rock should be getting my business. read more

These guys are great, and I really appreciate how hard they have to work to keep so much music stocked. They do a great job, and if they don't have what I'm after, can almost always get it in a reasonable amount of time. Now, for the nutjob writing a 1-star review because they wouldn't allow you in without a mask on because you "can't wear a mask." Give us all a f-ing break. It says right on the door: "Mask Required". And to say that they wouldn't do anything to accommodate you is OBVIOUSLY a partisan swipe and nonsense. 5-ish depending on what you're looking for. Lots of vinyl but not necessarily original pressings. But, like all of us, they are at the mercy of what's available. Very well organized. Listening station and guarantees on all used merchandise. Rare selection of better quality record players and receivers. Vinyl was in good shape, no scratches and good sleeves. I am not a record or even a CD kind of person anymore. But there is something about browsing through this store that I always enjoy. It is right downtown on the north side. It has a section in the back for records and dvds in the back. I always browse the DVD section hoping to find a rare movie that you might not find at BestBuy or Fred Meyers. The CD collection here is the biggest. If you still use CD's this a very affordable option to pick up some popular CDs. The main reason I like to check out this store is it is like stepping back in time for me. And the staff is always accommodating. read more

Found this place on a whim while visiting my mom from out of town. Super clean and organized! Loved how many title cards there were on the vinyls (which I was there for). They have a reasonable stock of new vinyl here. Mostly alternative rock than the good, classic rock of yesteryear (keep in mind that older people are turning back to vinyl too). The biggest issue behind my rating is their ridiculous return policy on defective vinyl. I have a high end turn table and a record I bought here kept skipping. They put on their turntable that has an overweight tonearm. No skip. So, unless "they" can hear noise or have it skip on their system, you are SOL because they won't take your word for it and do everything they can to NOT perform a return or exchange. I would love to support local but local has to support me too. This behavior is not good customer service. read more

Shout out to PHIL!!!!!! Don't know if he still works there I moved a year ago but here I am, missing the hell out of Ranch Records. They have such a great collection. If you can't find what you want they will order it for you!! I was able to complete my Tegan and Sara vinyl collection (6 at the time) because Phil was nice enough to order each record for me! Even one time a record came in and it wouldn't work on my player so what did they do? Rush order me a new copy! (and they don't charge for ordering) They also have a small movie selection and a small tape selection which is fun! They also sell patches, stickers, incense, tapestries, t-shirts and hoodies.
