I've been visiting Smith Park recently to walk my puppy. It's not a big park but there's a few amenities that's popular among the locals such as the pool, tennis court and more. I find Smith Park to have nicer grass. Especially if they just cut them. The park is clean and I do run into a few dogs walkers. It's a decent spot and you can easily find street parking. read more

We had a quick stroll at this neighborhood park, and we liked it! It's not huge but it is great for families in the neighborhood and it's got many excellent amenities. The two most popular areas were the pickle ball courts and the hand ball courts (I think there was a tournament when we were there), there was also a pool, nice big green field and some kid's areas. read more

A pretty standard & decent local park in the San Gabriel area. We came here to play pickleball, and there were a good amount of courts available for us to play on. We went on a Friday night so it was expected for the queue to be packed. Parking was easy to find, but it does tend to fill up pretty quickly during a packed night. There are benches available for you to sit on while waiting for your turn to play. read more

One of my dear friends from high school just started his pickleball journey. I am so excited for him. He used to play and coach tennis so it should be an easy transition for him. He and another friend of his came to Smith Park to hit some pickleball. I was invited to join them and I did. Thank you my friend! Got here around 3:30 PMish on a late Sunday afternoon. My first time here. It's a nice little park... not too big. There are some picnic benches, a children's playground, an outdoor pool, and a decent size grass area for play. Public restrooms are available for use. As for the lighted courts, they have 4 permanent lined/netted pickleball courts and 4 shared pickleball courts with one tennis court. Portable nets are available for use. They are stored in the storage box that's right on the side of the tennis court. They have court rules that should be adhered to whenever applicable. I got a chance to play 1.5 hours of pickleball with my good friend, his friend, and his friend's Dad... some practice and 4 games total. It was so very fun. It wasn't too crowded. It was nice to not have to leave the courts after each game. Now that I know about Smith Park, I will include it on my list of go-to parks for pickleball play whenever I am in the SGV area. read more

A great place for pickleball lovers. They have 4 permanents courts and 4 Pop-up courts. This place is busy all the time. The courts are in a good condition. The wait for pickleball turns around I would say around 10-15 mins which is not that bad. Mixed level players and some of them are pretty good. Courts closed by 10pm. They have auto shut off lights system. Overall I like this place. read more

Someone was stabbed here this week. I've never seen so much blood in my life. There was a person walking to their car and I saw what looked like a teenager trying to rob their stuff and then the kid stabbed him. Police came in and so many medical personnel. Apparently I learned from locals Smith Park is littered with unchecked gang activity. It was so terrible. The person or people involved who did this should be ashamed. I hope the victim will be ok... I saw it near the parking lot. The whole lot was filled with blood. read more

Came here to play pickleball with friends as a group of 4. I would advise coming earlier than later since it gets busy. We got there at 5:30pm and were able to play for an hour without waiting. However, the regulars tend to be rude and impatient if you are new and are not familiar with the queue system. They are not helpful nor friendly. Our group was yelled at by some middle aged players because we got confused by the queue order. We were in line behind a 2-person group and 2 of us had to play with them. The other 2 removed their rackets from the queue since we thought we would have a court to ourself since we came as a group. Instead of reminding us kindly, they started shouting at us and didn't allow the 2 in our group to put our rackets back. All in all, if you want to have a relaxing experience, don't come here! read more

What a delightful little park . We often come here after picking up sashimi from Yama Seafood and other bites from Hui Tou nearby and eat either at the adorable table areas or on a blanket on the grass. Especially wonderful when the jacaranda trees are in bloom in spring/early summer. This is a well kept park with tennis courts and a swim program, a small kids jungle gym area and plenty of free parking all around. In a very quiet neighborhood without a lot of traffic, so just all around pleasant little respite from a busy day in the city. Clean bathrooms over by the pool area with real toilets, not the traditional metal park kind without seats, if this matters to you. Soap is always stocked and everything is in good repair. read more

First opened in the late 1920s, Smith Park is San Gabriel's old public green space. But thanks to a $3-million improvement project two decades ago, this park has modern amenities utilized well by the many who visit. Amenities: * Separate playgrounds for young children and older children * Outdoor pool * 2 lighted tennis courts * 4 lighted handball courts * Lighted full basketball court * Picnic areas with tables and BBQ grills * Lots of walkways and grassy space * Free WiFi But this isn't just a park. Interwoven into the park's architecture are design elements celebrating the Tongva Native Americans, later renamed the Gabrielinos, who lived in this area. For instance, the concrete dolphins, sea lions and whale in one corner of the park symbolize the Tongvas' connection to the sea. And the gazebos covering picnic tables were modeled after their domed huts. Plaques scattered around the park tell a bit of the Tongva history. During these quarantine times, tennis is limited while the playgrounds and handball and basketball courts are closed. The bathrooms are also closed for remodeling. Notwithstanding, this park is a terrific asset to the community, and will be all the more after this covid craziness is over. Smith Park is a large park in the middle of San Gabriel. Obviously not as big as Almansor but still big for a neighborhood park. Good sized kids play ground. They have a swimming pool as well. Some what well kept. Not as clean as the other parks I have been to in the area. Street parking was tough, was really busy on the weekend. Good for parties or just to play. read more

This park has 2 tennis courts, of which one has pickleball lines drawn for four pickleball courts. The days and hours that the park staff provides the pickleball nets seems to be Monday through Thursday, and maybe Saturday (it was a little confusing when someone was trying to explain it to me), which in theory means that one would need to provide one's own net in the off-days. But, I was also told that many local players know how to get access to the nets at nearly any day and time, so that was reassuring. read more

A nice little park in a quiet neighborhood, just a block or two from the San Gabriel Mission. While I was here to attend my kid's swim meet at the pool and "aquatic center," I noted that this little park packs a lot of facilities that even larger parks may not have: tennis courts, handball courts, covered picnic areas with tables, basketball courts, and a play structure area for the little guys, in addition to the swimming pool. Restrooms are no worse or better than other muni-parks, and the open grass areas and other amenities mitigate your hopefully short time in the restrooms. This is a nice park to visit for a picnic after a trip to the San Gabriel Mission, and certainly walking distance for your family or your field trip group. Plenty of shade trees, too. Worth a stop, especially noting it's just a block or two from busy Las Tunas and Broadway. read more

Came here to play pickle ball since they have signs and court here. Came here to play with a friend and a group of asians people were just staring at me like they've never seen a black Person before. One of them approached me and asked me how much longer I would be there but didn't ask anyone else who had been there before us. I replied that we just got there and we will just hit for a half hour then leave. The guy responded " that's a long time". I get that it's predominantly asian community but I wasn't expecting to be pressured to leave like that. From my understanding Asian people are nice and After my friend and I finished they were all just staring at me like they just learned they live in America where there's different races of people. I took my son to the park to go swimming today and I was refused to be allowed to sit on the side because simply I didn't have a bathing suit on but there are multiple people inside the area that are not wearing bathing suits but I was told I was still unable to come in and watch my son swim I had to watch him from outside the gate simply because they wouldn't allow me to pay the fee just to sit there and watch him! read more

Review: 8/5/19 DO NOT GO HERE FOR SWIM LESSONS!!! MAYBE EVEN AT ALL! Situation: My daughter has been a part of the aquatics program since she was one. She is a returning loyal customer. We are residents, pay our taxes, pay for the program and are active when we can. This year management decided to take on new students over the returning regulars. New students were brought to the front of the line so they can get more business or as they would call it "introduce the program to more of he community". In my experience, this is bad business, customer care, and customer service. This is not the type of class that your done in a few days, its muscle memory. It requires the student to be actively involved as much as possible. The new students were spoon fed to the front of the line. This is completely unfair and stupid. EVERYONE should be in the same damn line at the same damn time...instead, I wasted my time waiting, practically camped out, in front of that useless line to be told that the spots have been filled DAYS before. The unfair advantage? We are only able to sign up when her cycle finishes....really? To all you new sign ups, parents, students; you will get stiffed your next cycle. I guarantee it! Staff: They are great...but management and the city BLOWS!!! Old review: My favorite park but.....It can use more light in the restrooms though. Also, the men's restroom stall doesn't have a functioning lock or soap dispenser....gross. read more

Went to a birthday party here under the gazebo. It's pretty nice since there's shade for about 7 picnic tables. You might have to bring another table or two to set up for the food line if you are expecting a larger party. Plus that there is a playground close by for the kids so you can see them from picnic tables. There's also a small parking lot next to the gazebo area, so if you don't find street parking, check out the parking lot - it's easy to miss. read more

This place is so amazing!! My school went here for a field trip, to the pool, and well I think I'm in love!! The last time that I was in a public pool was 3 years ago! I did go to my friends pool though...back to the point, I would def. go back. The last time at was at this pool, a few days ago, the water was filled to the brim and the water was literally the perfect temperature!!!! It's a little too deep for me and kids under 9 or so but still very enjoyable! I really recommend this place especially for summer!and also get ready for some diving!! As stated, this park is a cute little park that's been around forever. It has a basketball court and handball courts. The only problem with handball courts is it does draw a big crowd of riff raff and cholo's and gangsters, who of course, love to play handball. The swimming pool isn't bad. Pretty big. The bathrooms definitely need some updating though! I can't speak on the girls restrooms though. There's only 2 showers in the boys bathroom, so it's almost impossible to take a real shower after swimming, especially if there's a lot of other people/kids waiting. The staff at pool are also pretty poor. I understand that most of the time, they're just kids (mostly high school kids), but they definitely need some training. Parents, be very careful when you take your kids there for swimming classes. The "lifeguards" (who are also kids) aren't even watching the kids half the time, but instead are laughing and talking and joking around with the other staff and other kids who work there. They need to be paying attention to the kids at ALL times! Very unprofessional!! And they have this stupid rule where the parents can not stand by the pool, and have to stand outside behind the fence while class is in session. So you can not rescue your kid if you have to. read more

The pool is open and in full swing , so if you or the kids are looking for a swim class, you can join me! it's time to sign up. All levels, including Saturdays available. Classes are 32.00 per cycle. (July 16 - July 27 is the start date and then July 30th - August 10th for the set of classes. . So, if you already swim, just use the pool between 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm, Monday thru Sunday/ A family season pass (6 people) is 70.00. Great value!. I just love this local park,. If you are not into swimming, how about a lazy, relaxing picnic, or a game of tennis. Lot's of shade trees for the hot days ahead.. One thing you parents will love. The gates are locked in front during the day near the pool area, for the safety of the children, so you must enter around the tennis courts. Smith Park is a nice little park located in San Gabriel. In my opinion, its definitely easy to miss because its located within a small street on Del Mar. Smith Park may look small, but they have handball courts, 1 full basketball court, and a small volleyball net located on the playground in the far back of the park. This is the best park around. On one side, there are huts and places for family parties another cover and a large free space to play any kind of activity. They have two children playgrounds so if a kid gets bored of one they can just go to the other. The tennis courts are usually feel with players and students that are learning how to play. If he wants to learn, I'm sure they would be willing to teach people. During the summer, I'll take the kids to go swimming just about every day. The lifeguards are great and the prices are fair. I just wish they have a snack bar like when I was a kid. The basketball court are also filled just like a tennis court. I grew up watching my pops play handball in the courts here and Now I bring my son to come and play handball. The locals a real nice, they are respectful to the people and they make sure the ice cream man stops for all the kids lol. I am surprised no one wrote a review here. This is a wonderful small park packed with great facilities. I came here before sunset and it was so lively around here. People swimming, playing tennis and volleyball, children in the playground, old man sitting around, couples spending alone time, people walking alone or with their dogs. The people are unusually pleasant and friendly around here, even after dark. I like the dolphin and whale statues they placed on the grass. This used to be a fairly clean park. But now the whole park stinks like an unkept bathroom. The smell of dog poop and pee hover the whole place - reflecting how irresponsible and uncaring people use it. It should be renamed as Smith Dog Park. What a shame! read more
