Josh came to my rescue taking on repair of concrete work that was poorly repaired at some time in the distant past. He repaired a foundation wall crack, worked on steps and a walk way, repaired a chimney to like-new condition, and even removed and filled in a window in a concrete wall that didn't make sense where it was. His work was fantastic in quality (friends and family have congratulated me just based on the "after" pictures) and several other contractors I've had do work have wanted his number for projects of their own. He definitely devotes himself to doing a good job. (The concrete work you have done will probably out last you so it's important that it be done right.) Based on a traffic tie up he got a late start on the largest pour of my project and so had to get started in the rain. He kept working through the evening and into the night under a plastic tarp, on his knees, in a downpour, working the concrete and taking care that everything turned out right for me. I was having issues with my garage and driveway being uneven.... When it rained heavy; water would get in the entry way to the back of our house and soak the carpet. I did my yelp search; found Josh and was able to get him to take care of this. josh is a 1 man operation so call him, text him and keep at it. he is definitely worth it. Hired Josh to fill an area in the backyard, it was a 10x8ft space and nothing too complicated. Josh was great at first, he responded fast to my quote and was able to start the job quickly. Super nice guy, but unfortunately didn't finish the job. When he agreed to do the job, he didn't seem to take weather conditions into account and the concrete was damaged. He came back out to fill the areas and now it looks messy in a few areas. I've texted him twice since and he said he would come out and fix it, but we haven't heard from him. For $1400 I had hoped for a clean finished look. read more

I hired Josh Smith to do some cement work on my small patio project in the First Hill neighborhood. The work included building a small retention wall and a few oversized steps leading to and from the main walkway. After my first initial contact with Josh to arrange for an estimate, he was responsive and agreed to come out the same day. He quickly took measurements and provided a couple of estimates a couple of days later. Josh was very reasonable in his estimates and seemed very amicable and professional. I decided to pull the trigger on the project and the work began as soon as the weather allowed (1 week later). Josh always maintained his work areas very tidy and out of the way during and after each work shift. His work turned out very professional. Josh is very much a perfectionist in his field of work and the final results showed the quality of his work. I also hired one of Josh's helpers (Daryl) to put a custom Fence around the patio that also turned out very nice at a cost that was reasonable. Great to find a local, highly skilled craftsman who takes pride in his work and has years of experience working with concrete - he learned his craft from his dad who was also a concrete craftsman. Josh did a great job repairing our parking area after a 4' x 4' chunk of concrete was raised several inches by what turned out to be a huge tree root from one of neighbor's old apple tree. He jack hammered the raised piece, removed and chopped out the huge tree root so it would fit in our yard waste, and added rebar to the hole before filling with concrete. He also patched the nearby cracks. Josh is a straight-shooter - does what he says and says what he does. He is very personable and friendly, has great attention to detail, good communication skills and was always on time. We highly recommend him and won't hesitate to contact him again. read more

I've been working on a project over an extended time period. Recently the project called for replacing the driveway and front walk. I chose to remove and prepare the site myself. Once done it was time to find someone to come in and take care of the pour. I found Josh on Yelp, contacted him and he stopped by the same day for a look. We reviewed what I had done, he had some recommendations to prepare further and we set a date for the pour. As noted on other reviews, Josh is pretty much a one man operation - which is great in my case because I like to participate in projects. Date set, concrete ordered, we got an early start (6:30 AM) on a Friday morning. The great thing about Josh is that he's patient and thorough with his work. He is not rushed to get done and on to the next job. A few days later, he came by to check on things and finalize a few details of the project. I'm happy. I think you would be too. read more

Josh pretty much saved us today. After a brief text convo with him on Monday afternoon, he came over today and fixed our broken concrete issue on the spot. We purchased our home in September and unbeknownst to us (because the sellers didn't disclose it, as required by law, before they moved out of the country), there was a pre-existing water issue at our front door threshold that has been letting water into the house for years. Once the rains started in November (remember how non-stop they were? Yay!), we discovered our garage was flooding. It took a while to find the source, but once we did we filled it with a spray foam as a temporary solution until we could figure out the full impact of the intrusion. Months later, after many, many failed attempts to get someone to take the time to help us fix the issue, as well as a positive mold test, I found Josh here on Yelp. He came and cleaned out all of the foam we had applied and then filled it with concrete, making sure to push it into all of the cracks and crevices he could find. He'll be coming back once we get a new door and casing to fill in any other holes that he couldn't see, which he told us he'd need to do. He's thoughtful about his work, was outside in the freezing temps today, and had a smile on his face every time I saw him. Such good energy. Thanks to him and his quick response time, we can now finally move forward with the mold remediation we need. Please note that Josh is very laid back and easy going, and a one man show. It's just something to consider if you're used to or prefer contractors who have a crew and someone scheduling their days out for them. Josh is casual and a little loose, but my experience today showed that he's very knowledgeable and capable. Please don't take my comment to mean he's just a small job guy - he does larger projects, as well. (He was finalizing a big pour in Alki today before coming to our house.) On that same note, however, he IS the only guy I could find that was willing to take on our small job - one that had health consequences for us but no one else seemed interested in considering. So I should throw in that he's compassionate, too. I mention his style only because I'm big on schedules and projects being tightly run, so I had to adjust a little myself. :) He made it super easy to do, because his chill is so great to be around.
