I covered the slab with plastic sheeting held down by some scrap lumber around the edges after they finished. The concrete will develop much higher strength if you keep it from drying out while it cures.

Having several trustworthy proposals on my desk and all within a similar price range there was one clear winner...Aguiar Pavers. All the important components were there including high quality materials. This company had my confidence and my business. The crew of 7, led by foreman Anderson, did outstanding work. As foreman, Anderson made onsite decisions that were brilliant and showed respect for my neighbors and my property. He worked right alongside the crew. The work progressed very quickly from demolition, and tree removal, to materials delivery, through excavation for the footings, quality drainage, wall building with backfill. They even moved my 6'x8' shed out of the way to build and then restored it to its original place! The crew clearly had a lot of respect for Anderson. They showed up early morning, worked a long day sometimes in the cold rain of December and never slowed their steady pace down. They tidied up the site at the close of each day and mitigated damage to existing pathways by putting plywood down to protect from heavy wheelbarrow loads. With the large crew my project was complete in 4 days! Nothing short of miraculous! Josh came to my rescue taking on repair of concrete work that was poorly repaired at some time in…read morethe distant past. He repaired a foundation wall crack, worked on steps and a walk way, repaired a chimney to like-new condition, and even removed and filled in a window in a concrete wall that didn't make sense where it was. His work was fantastic in quality (friends and family have congratulated me just based on the "after" pictures) and several other contractors I've had do work have wanted his number for projects of their own. He definitely devotes himself to doing a good job. (The concrete work you have done will probably out last you so it's important that it be done right.) Based on a traffic tie up he got a late start on the largest pour of my project and so had to get started in the rain. He kept working through the evening and into the night under a plastic tarp, on his knees, in a downpour, working the concrete and taking care that everything turned out right for me. (He didn't get out of here until 2:00am!) I cannot recommend him enough.

Our project was a somewhat complicated one - our backyard has a decent slope and we needed terraces…read morethat would be structurally sound given that our soil is extremely sandy. We needed a patio level, a small garden level, a turf/grass level, and then one last small garden level due to the slope. To maximize space, we wanted the majority of these walls to be near vertical block walls. The work is practically flawless. My father-in-law has a background in construction and even he was awe-inspired by the finished product. I cannot fathom anyone impugning the quality of Tim's work. To top it off, our neighbor's rockery was going to be disturbed by our work, and Tim (with permission from the neighbor) was actually able to help keep some soil erosion from their property at bay as a bonus and make their corner look much nicer. I will say that there was one issue we ran into - due to the odd way in which our side sewer was laid (it's an old house and replacing the entire side sewer would've been prohibitively expensive), we were forced to make non-trivial changes to our initial plan that resulted in some wasted work that Tim had to undo. This caused the project to go over budget and over time. Ultimately, we were able to work out a change order that both of us could agree was fair. The fact that he went long on time didn't particularly bother me - he's essentially a one man crew (with some help from laborers) and does not cut corners. While that may seem odd, the fact of the matter is that he is extraordinarily experienced and I've hired contractors in the past with larger crews that got the work done quickly but with important flaws. If I had to choose between a contractor who finishes exactly on schedule or one who takes longer but is meticulously detailed, it's no competition I want the second one (which is what Tim is).

Tim walked us through the various options for having a retaining wall given we wanted to preserve a large (30'+ tall tree). He explained all the possibilities with pros & cons as well as conveyed the city's building codes too. He also shared his recommendation for stone selection too. The quote Tim sent us was very reasonable. Tim arranged for the city mark the utility lines and came out a week later to do the work. He finished the job in a day just like he said and the wall was AMAZING. It was more impressive than what we originally thought; he added larger flat rocks to create a "bench" and natural rock path to make it easy to access the slope. Great for sitting and planting flowers and ground cover. Definitely recommend Eagle Rock and would use them again for future projects!

We had a "pot hole" that was expanding across the driveway and we were very concerned that it was going to be a large issue due to a previous situation on our property with buried stumps. Fortunately, this turned out to be a small burn pile that was easy to fill. During negotiations, Jim took the time to carefully listen to our concerns and reassured us that it would be taken care of properly. And it was! Jim explained the process in detail; we had questions about the type of asphalt i.e. size of gravel, and probably a million other things. The driveway has a 'Y' which was tricky but was perfectly done. Notice the huge cedar in picture 4 on the left - the crew was able to trim the roots and some branches and the tree actually looks better than before. Jim and his crew were accurate, friendly, funny, careful and thorough. Everything was cleaned up, the driveway is beautiful. Neighbors even commented on it, and someone asked who had done it. Lastly, we thought the quality of workmanship was fantastic and the price was in the middle of the other bids so it was good all the way around. We would definitely hire them again.
