Single, Smasher Style
Yvonne F.

I recently tried Smashers Burgers and Fries and ordered the single Smashers-style burger with fries. The burger itself was tasty and flavorful, though a bit on the salty side. I really liked the pickles and soft bun--it held everything together nicely and added to the overall experience. Unfortunately, the condition of the restaurant took away from the meal. The floor was noticeably greasy, which was a bit of a turnoff and made the place feel less clean than I'd expect. Overall, decent food but the atmosphere could use improvement. Not sure if I'll be back.

Give this place a shot. First off, they have a great story, so I love supporting a local small business. The restaurant is keeping to the food truck feel, nothing fancy. Which means it is a fast food service. Not saying that is bad, don't expect table service. The burger is solid, but nothing fancy. Quality products and good skills make good food. I really enjoyed the bun, buttery and soft. Also, the price is good, I think this is very reasonable for what I ordered. If you're at the outlets and looking for a quick meal, give this place a try. I would absolutely go back.

I had high hopes for smashers, but my visit left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. I ordered a single patty, and honestly I had to double check if there was actually meat on the bun. The patty was so thin it was practically see through, with random holes like swiss cheese. I get that it's a smashburger, but this one looked like it had been smashed out of existence The fries? Paper thin. Im talking about thinner than a receipt. They were super crispy, sure, but to the point where I wondered if I was just eating crunchy air. The oreo milkshake was ok nothing mind blowing. It did the job. Keep in mind this review is reflecting the quality of food not the service. The people working there were very kind and apologetic about any wait for the food.

The OG burger and small fry

I found this spot on accident today. I just happen to be staying at the hotel next-door and drove by to see what all they had. It's really nice inside and they have plenty of parking for everybody. I ordered the OG smasher and small fry. My order came out pretty fast and when I saw it sitting there on the tray, it was beautiful. The burger was pretty good size and loaded with all the toppings you'll ever need. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the fries were nice shoestring crunchy crispy fries. They had some pretty cool music playing too . This was a 10/10

It was my first time here and it didn't disappoint. The burger and fries were really good. I ordered the single smasher and added on the fry and drink combo. I loved the grilled onions and smasher sauce. Everything tasted fresh. The service was good. My only concern is that the cashier didn't know what was in the smasher sauce. However, they asked someone else. The seating was plentiful.

I'm no stranger to getting smashed. I've been getting smashed since 2021. When I frequent a day trip to Cape Charles I always hit up Smashers Burgers and Fries. I had the opportunity to finally get smashed at their brick and mortar location near the Norfolk Outlets. My go to order is a single smasher with grilled onions, smasher sauce, pickles, mayo, lettuce, extra cheese with fries. The burger has great flavor and was cooked to perfection. The bun is so soft, yet there is a wonderful crisp to it, as they toast it in the grill. Tonight I also ordered a hot dog. I love that it is sliced down the middle. I kept it very typical 4th of July, ketchup and mustard. I love that the bun was also toasted. The hotdog was simple, but packed good flavor. I love the look in the inside. A simple take on how it started, a food truck look. There is about 11 tables to sit at. Parking is plentiful. Service was good. Questions were asked. Orders came out fairly quick as they are made to order. The only thing missing was the clacking seagulls, the sounds of waves and the sand beneath my seat. My only complaint was the condiment bar was missing napkins, and my fries were overcooked to my liking. But, that's nothing worth taking a star away. I do think napkins could be on the table, and a dispenser for ketchup instead of packets would be better.

Smashers definitely leans more "fast casual" than a traditional sit-down burger joint, so set your expectations accordingly. You order at the counter, grab your own drinks, and wait for your name to be called. No table service. The burger itself was decent. The patty had a crispy, almost crunchy sear, and there was a little kick of spice. The flavor was fine, though nothing that would pull me across town for a second visit. Bun was soft, toppings were fresh, and everything came out pretty quickly, so bonus points for efficiency. It's a little on the pricier side for what you get but not a wallet buster. Overall, Smashers is a solid option, but if you're looking for a "wow" burger experience this probably isn't it.

Counter service with a smile!! What went well you ask! EVERYTHING went well! Great location, the restaurant was clean, and inviting! The Smashers team is very friendly, and nice! I ordered a traditional smasher with no cheese, called a single smasher. It was cooked to perfection. It was super tasty. The sauce was really good. I also ordered up order of French fries, their fresh cut shoestring fries they were crispy they were perfectly cooked as well. I would definitely suggest eating your french fries first as they taste the best when they are very hot. I was with two other friends. They both ordered the same exact thing. The only difference is one of my friends ordered the double smasher, which is two burgers everybody at my table enjoy their food. We all agreed that it tasted so good that we will be coming back for a visit. Hopefully next time I'll have room to try a milkshake. Again this is a must try if you haven't!! We definitely will be back soon!!

Decent burger. I could have used a dash of salt but tasty and fresh. Great customer service . Place was clean . I would return. Simple and clean smash burger with fresh veggies . Business suggestion : maybe some different buns. And lettuce wrapped buns. Check them out

Came to Smashers Tuesday night after the outlets, one hour before closing. Not too much of a crowd when we walked in, but many people came in after we arrived. The person who took our order was pleasant and upbeat and not running on fumes with closing being around the corner. Husband ordered a double burger and fries and I ordered a single burger and fries, both with bacon. We also ordered a vanilla and a cookie milkshake. Food came out very quick, not greasy at all. The fries were to die for. These were homemade shoe string fries. The fries were the star of the show for me. The burger was great, but the fries were amazing. Shakes came out fast as well. Not overtly sweet, just natural ice cream, no additives. The best part is not feeling icky or like I need to use the bathroom afterwards. I will be back with the kids.

What a surprise!…read more We had a quick bite here before going to the Chartway Arena for a show and my husband wanted something for lunch. It was packed, probably with people doing what we were doing, but there were several seats at the bar so we snagged three and were greeted pretty quickly by a very friendly waitress. She made recommendations at my husband's request and suggested the special which was two hotdogs with topping of your choice, half order of fries or tots and a drink. He went with that and we ordered a single cheeseburger for our toddler. Food was out quickly - probably less than 10 minutes and the burgers and fries were piping hot and very good. My husband was pleased. Their menu is much larger than I expected with tons of burgers, sandwiches, some salads and other things. Our waitress and a few others checked on us while we ate to ensure we didn't need anything. Very good service. I think we will definitely come back.

It's one of the few old school Hot Dog Shops that still feature the iconic Norfolk Dog. The spot closes at 3pm each day. There was plenty of time to stop. The location is on Azalea Garden Road about 2 blocks north of Princess Anne Road. Don't expect a picturesque spot. This building is located in the midst of warehouses, car repair shops & such. Lew's was obviously packed with people wanting those few last days of the wonderful Norfolk Dogs. Parking was around the front & side of the shop & on the street. Even the "no parking" area was filled. We stepped directly into an earlier time. And I loved it. Seating was mainly around the counter. I would have loved to have eaten there. But we had just had donuts in Ghent. So we ordered at the cramped takeout counter, The cook, who I suspect was the owner's wife, cooked on a small grill near the front window. A young man took the orders, writing each takeout order on a paper bag for the cook. The proprietor busily did everything. He was personable & funny. He had his rules, just like his long gone competitors, We sat at the counter and talked to a customer who had driven down from Arlington. He obviously knew the place well as the owner bantered with him. When our order was ready we left, a little sad that we couldn't stay and eat. It had been so much fun. The Norfolk Dogs were wonderful. They're snap dogs, customarily served only with mustard, chili & onions. Lew's did allow other condiments added, even serving French fries. You could get thrown out of some of his former competitors for asking for catsup or potato chips. There must be a return before they close. I want to sit and eat at the counter. I want to come out with that familiar smell of onions in my hair. By the way, they're still open to selling the shop. It comes with the secret recipe for their chili sauce. Norfolk Dog lovers need this eatery to remain open. Don't let them be lost to time.

On the way home from the Yelp Event at O's Donuts, I remembered Lew's was closing this weekend. Luckily Lew's was right on our way home so we decided to stop and get orders to go. We walked in to a packed house and lots of others placing orders to go. Cash only signs were posted in several places so I was prepared when it was my turn to order and pay. Everyone was friendly and greeted each other and engaged in conversation. I felt like I had stepped back in time to a kinder, gentler place. I'm very sad that we are losing another piece of Norfolk history. The hotdogs were just as good as I remembered, as well as their French fries. One thing that caught my attention as we waited was the stools at the counter. This old Norfolk girl immediately said to my Friend, "these aren't stools, they are chairs with backs on them just like the lunch counters in Peoples Drug Store and Woolworth's when I was a kid." Loved this little walk down memory lane today. Happy retirement Lew, You will be missed.
