What a surprise! We had a quick bite here before going to the Chartway Arena for a show and my husband wanted something for lunch. It was packed, probably with people doing what we were doing, but there were several seats at the bar so we snagged three and were greeted pretty quickly by a very friendly waitress. She made recommendations at my husband's request and suggested the special which was two hotdogs with topping of your choice, half order of fries or tots and a drink. He went with that and we ordered a single cheeseburger for our toddler. Food was out quickly - probably less than 10 minutes and the burgers and fries were piping hot and very good. My husband was pleased. Their menu is much larger than I expected with tons of burgers, sandwiches, some salads and other things. Our waitress and a few others checked on us while we ate to ensure we didn't need anything. Very good service. I think we will definitely come back. read more

I've been eating at Perfectly Frank since they opened about 20 years ago. I love everything about this diner. From the hard working college students, the consistency of the food, and the feel of a local spot that keeps doing their thing and does it right! The service is prompt and they keep hustling to meet everyone's needs, especially on ODU game days. Nice little patio seating area out front. Bar seating and table seating are all seat yourself. read more

WOW!! That about says it all during my first experience at Perfectly Frank ODU. I live in SC and graduated from ODU in 1987. I have also followed this restaurant on social media for a couple of years. My goal was to eat here whenever I returned to the area. That time finally happened on Saturday 8/8/26 and to say my expectations were met is an understatement. The place looked like how a college place should look and the food and service was even better. The hot dog and NY Hot sausage were outstanding, the definition of how each should taste. Reagan and Liam were also outstanding, and I appreciated everything you did to make my first experience a great one. If you have a chance, please visit this restaurant. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to return in the near future. read more

Service was amazing! Food was amazing as well! Smile eats but executed perfectly no mess ups!!! I had the New York hot sausage which was spicy! And I have the chicken cheddar melt**** fire Also ordered the Mac n cheese balls and a turkey melt Oh and Fran cran pita! All really good but the chicken cheddar was the best!! Oh side note the crushed ice is bomb, that's for my ice eaters!!! read more

I've gone here several times throughout the past couple years, and I've been satisfied every time! Their menu has simple yet delicious options that are super affordable, which makes it ideal for a college student like myself. I've gotten their burgers, fries, onion rings, and some of their desserts, all of which I've enjoyed. The inside has a plethora of writings from customers on the walls, creating a very unique charm. One thing I've noticed that is popular is their "cheapskate" meals, offering certain budget-friendly meals on specific days, which seems like a great way to get the most bang out of your buck. read more

Perfectly Frank - cheeseburger and half seasoned fries - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

We tried this spot for breakfast during our stay in Norfolk. It was super close to our hotel and had a good selection of items. We ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sammy to share. The inside has a cool, casual vibe, friendly service, and I was hoping the food would be similar to the bacon egg and cheese on a roll we had when we visited NYC. We took our breakfast back to our room and dug in. While it wasn't exactly the same as the one I had in NYC, it was equally delicious! It's amazing how some spots can just take simple ingredients and make them into something craveable and and drool worthy. This is one of those spots for me! The prices are also very reasonable. I've since returned home and am mad that Perfectly Frank's isn't around the corner for more delicious breakfast. They had a good menu selection of many other things I'd love to try so when I'm back in Norfolk, I'll definitely be going back to this place! read more

"I'd been wanting to try this spot, and we finally stopped in for a quick lunch. Right away, I was struck by how inviting the place is--they have so many funny signs on the walls, making it a fun read as you wait. The ceiling is covered with hand-painted tiles, and the funds from those go directly to feed the homeless, which is just incredible! We ordered hot dogs, fries, and an apple pie with ice cream, and everything was delicious. The place was spotless, and the staff were attentive and genuinely friendly. I absolutely loved that the owner was hands-on, working alongside the team, who felt more like a family--a rare sense of unity in many establishments. If you're in the area, definitely stop by and give them a try. You won't be disappointed!" read more

Was craving a hot dog and found this joint right in the middle of ODU's campus. The concept is so simple it's a no frills delight. Everything was cooked when ordered and delivered to you table immediately. Great service and the food was really good. They even serve breakfast and beer. I was visited bf on Memorial Day and people were in and out so I'm sure they stay busy on a regular basis. read more

Came in after searching on Yelp for a good meal. The team that runs it are awesome! The whole line is right in front knocking it all out. Ordered the Barnyard Burger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and Chili Cheese Fries. Barnyard burger was great. Egg in it made in a way that doesn't gush egg on ya when you take a bite. The grilled cheese sandwich was phenomenal! Probably best I've had in a long time. Chilli Cheese fries were good but kept thinkin' I would have preferred a Frito Pie if they had it. Super nice team and I think they mentioned that the lady who owns it was the one on the grill. They mentioned I need to try their shakes. Supposedly amazing so can't wait to try that later. Felt bad I came in a closing time, end of the day and they still hustle more than any other place around to get you a good meal. read more

Perfectly Frank - Barnyard Burger, Grilled Cheese Sandwich , and Chili Cheese Fries! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

Perfectly Frank is a favorite hot dog joint located by ODU; the menu is quite extensive, including various appetizers, burgers, cold and hot sammies, chili, breakfast items, melts, salads, wings, HH specials, in addition to hot dogs and sausages. We came here on an early afternoon, and ordered: +Deep Fried Mac - bite-sized deep-fried mac and cheese 'patties' - these were pretty good; I think they use something similar to the Kraft mac n' cheese; they're definitely on the saltier end +a Knockwurst with chili, cheese, and onions - this was more on the saltier end, too, and definitely prepared super well done; I wasn't really a fan of the knockwurst nor the chili +sweet tea - this was house-brewed and it was pretty good; they also have crush ice, which is a huge plus, and it comes with free refills Staff are pretty friendly, and there are plenty of seating (high tops, counter, and tables), as well as a few outside for those who want to dine al fresco. There's metered parking around, but there's also some restricted residential parking a couple of blocks away. +sweet tea +friendly staff +metered parking in the area read more

The owner doesn't want to pay their employees more money and now implementing forced tips on all orders to make up for her being cheap (dine in & take out). She thinks they should get tips for simply doing their job duties and all that entails when getting hired. Forcing me to tip via an additional charge so you can keep salaries down and make a high profit is sickening. I'll willingly pay $1 or $2 extra per meal if that means giving your workers a more liveable wage. But putting this on us is sad. read more

I love this place! One of my all time places to eat in Norfolk. I will say, had I gone to ODU I would've packed on the freshman 50 not the freshman 15. Everything on the menu is good. The staff is friendly, food is great, and atmosphere is just what you'd expect for a college mainstay. My only gripe is I tend to crave it right before it closes and I'm somewhere I can't make it in time. It's like wanting Chick-fil-a on Sunday. read more

Our first trip was last week on Wednesday (May 5th). I have had this place bookmarked for a while and we finally made it in. I am SO HAPPY that we did. It was our anniversary and for some reason I was craving a good hot dog in a weird way. We thought who would want hot dogs on May 5th? But they were SLAMMED (luckily after we came in). I cannot tell you how amazing the staff was! Watching them work was like a ballet (the amazing young lady on the grill even danced a little at the end of the rush! Lol). And the food? Amazing! No, this is not a Michelin star place. It's just a darned good local joint. The menu is surprisingly diverse. I, of course, had the dogs - one with sauerkraut and one with relish and onions. Both were exactly what I was looking for. The dogs have a perfect bite. And unlike other places, the sauerkraut was not swimming in water (that ruins the buns). Hubby had grilled cheese that was super good and the kid went with a double cheeseburger (we read other reviews saying to go with the double and they were right). The patties are thin, but still juicy. It was so good, we went back the NEXT night with one of our other kids. Just as amazing. The staff is incredible! Good food, spectacular service and a great price. What's not to love? Oh yeah, and we went back again tonight. Lol! If you are in the ODU area, this is one you don't want to miss. It's pretty obvious that we will be back again and again. read more

This is your standard university fast food hang out kind of place. (It reminds me of the pizza spot that was popular at my uni back in the day Lol.) Lots of college kids. My son suggested this place since he had seen it on the news. The waitress was really sweet and the food was tasty and cheap. I ordered the knockwurst beef hot dog with chili on top and an oreo milkshake. My son got the veggie burger with a side of fried pickles. We both devoured our food. The hot dog was really tasty and juicy (just look at that picture!) and the fried pickles were tasty and not greasy. The milkshake was delicious too. Also, my son liked his veggie burger. If you are in the area, hungry, and trying to watch your budget, definitely give this place a try! read more

8/29/20: Today was our first visit & I was mainly going because I saw they had a hot sausage. I've been craving one for quite sometime. Anyway, it is located right across from the ODU bookstore...right next to Dominos. There's a lot of student traffic out there, so be aware. There's street metered parking daily (except Sundays). Although this store had signs up about social distancing, a lot of the customers were not wearing masks & people didn't comply with the 6 ft distancing rule. Annoying but not shocked by it. We went inside to order and pay for the food, but because it was so packed in there around 7 pm, we decided to have them bring the food out to our car. We got a variety of foods & the average score on that was a 3. I was told the burger tasted like one from a high school cafeteria & wasn't very good. I ordered one but didn't eat it because my mouth is still on fire from the sausage. I loved the sausage & the crinkle fries. My daughter didn't like her cheese dog/fries because it wasn't true cheese SAUCE but simply melted slices of cheese. She was displeased with the taste of it along with how thick the hot dog skin was. The service, on the other hand, was excellent. I give them a 5 in that area. In total, they deserve 4 stars this visit. I will definitely be back to try something else. read more

Dropped the Heir off around the corner for a concert, looking for a bite, and Perfectly Frank was literally right across the street from where I parked. Clearly a sign from the gods of delicious food and low prices. The young man at the counter asked if I was dining in or taking out, and on hearing that it was my first time here, explained everything and told me that if I was dining in, I could just sit anywhere. I tried looking at the menu, but the waitress popped up almost instantly. I asked for coffee, but they close in 45 minutes so when she said she'd make some, I asked for sweet tea instead. It was excellent- not so sweet as to hurt my teeth, but sweet enough to satisfy. Making up my mind was HARD, y'all! I pretty much wanted one of everything. Finally I settled for a Hash Brown Smash ($5.09), which is a sausage patty, a fried egg, and cheese, served between two hash browns. A little greasy, but my arteries were feeling a little soft lately anyway. It was delicious- bog standard sausage, expertly cooked egg, nicely melty cheese. The whole was certainly more than the sun of its parts! My side of seasoned fries ($2.39) seem to have been seasoned mostly with salt and pepper, but she brought me a bottle of their signature homemade hot sauce, which more than made up any deficiency. When I first came in there was a sign -handwritten on a paper plate taped to the wall, an excellent sign- advertising "Island Pie." Supposed to be mango and coconut and such. Sadly, it had already sold out, which is probably just as well, as full as I was after supper. The check was actually just cryptic initials on a Post-it note. ST. HBS. SF. Service was great, food was everything I wanted it to be, and with tax, the whole thing came to $10.99 before tip. I almost never come to Norfolk because I despise driving down here, but I'm actually already looking forward to my next trip! TL;DR: Hot, cheap, and good, with bright and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended! read more

Coronavirus isn't stopping this hot spot. This was the first time I've ever been here and it just so happened to be when the Governor declared a state of emergency. With that being said there are a handful of restaurants that are shut down, not Perfectly Frank. Instead they closed the indoor seating and took orders outside. That worked out wonderfully for this chick as I had a poop day and preferred to be sitting outside on their patio surrounded by silence. I can't recall his name, but service was helpful and friendly and my burger was nothing short of awesomeness. I'm happy that I ordered a double as the patties are thin, but ridiculously delicious. The onion rings alone call for a second round. Thank you Perfectly Frank for serving up delicious food and fantastic service. See you soon read more

This is definitely my "go to" spot when it comes to a delicious tuna melt. Believe me I've been numerous places but this place is as good as it gets. Overall pricing is great, I always get the tuna melt with an extra sphere, fries and a sweet tea-about $7 and totally worth it. Parking in this area can be a bit difficult, this is a college area full of restaurants and metered parking. Be sure to have some spare change, about seventy-five cents for about 30-45 minutes which is all you'll need. Perfectly Frank is self seating and quick. read more

I was in town visiting my dad, and I stumbled upon this gem. I am always up for trying a new spot, and this place didn't disappoint. The staff was very helpful, and I had a light conversation with an employee who looked like she lost a battle with a bottle of sun tan lotion. The burgers were cooked to perfection, and the price, in my opinion, was a steal, compared to where I'm from. It's nice to see the area where my mom went to school at on a side bar. My family had a great time coming here after one of my kid's basketball games. The prices were cheaper than pretty much anywhere else I can think of which was great for my big family. Everything was super casual which was great for us-it was a place where my kids could talk and be themselves. The service was excellent. The ambiance is super fun and kept our eyes busy. I just love a great hot dog. I was in the mood today for a really good Boarshead dog. I chose this place because of the high ratings. If an established isn't rated at least four stars I won't bother. The place is lively and upbeat with many college students getting a bite. I sat down and the servers were very helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the music they were playing and the joint was packed. I got exactly what I ordered. Instructions were followed precisely. I ordered two chili with deli mustard and onions. The other was a kraut dog with deli mustard. Both dogs were cooked perfectly and snapped when I bit into them. The fries were shoestring and made fresh from a potato and I enjoyed them immensely. Cooked well done and very crispy. I like the touch of them toasting the hotdog buns. The chili was yummy and the chopped onion was fresh and hot. This is now my favorite dog place. read more

My husband brought me to Perfectly Frank for a date night and my first thought was "Really dude? Hotdogs for date night?" Then he sent me the menu and it really is a lot more than just hot dogs! They have burgers, chicken sandwiches, and even salads and gyros. Casing out the menu, I had decided that I wanted a hotdog and a burger with maybe just a half order of fries (which is a genius option to provide on any menu). As I started to order every item I wanted à la carte, the server stopped me to say "that's actually our special for today, a hotdog, a cheeseburger, and a half order of fries and a drink for eight bucks!" Don't you just love when the universe works in your favor? I was so so excited by this news! Probably more than I should've been but whatever I'm a foodie! The hot dog was perfect (haha see what I did there?). It had that snap to it that lets you know it's good stuff. The cheeseburger was really good as well but the patty was thinner than I thought it would be and I like my burgers thick. The next time I go, I'll pick the double or triple cheeseburger option to satisfy that preference. The crinkle fries were super yummy and I really liked the mayo type sauce they give you to go with it. I'm not sure if it's an aioli or thousand dollar dressing or what. I forgot to ask. But it was so good! I decided I wanted to get the beef and lamb Gyro to go. After the server brought it to me all packaged, I realized that I forgot to ask for onions lettuce and tomato on it. So I apologized to him and asked if it was too late to get those toppings added to it. His response was "oh yeah the Gyro already comes with onions lettuce tomato and tzatziki sauce on it. Again with the universe! We paid $19 for everything, I felt like I needed to order more stuff. Needless to say I will be back again and again and again. And I will bring the kids next time. It really is a kids dream place when you think about it. read more

one word describes Perfectly Frank, AWESOME. The staff is always smiling even when the place is crazy busy. I either get a dog all the way or a BBQ Chicken Melt. You can't go wrong with either choice. The fries are so good with their "secret sauce." I love supporting this business because the owner consistently gives back to the community. At the height of COVID 19 crisis, the owner and staff prepared and delivered countless meals to front line workers. Perfectly Frank is a great locals spot and is always "paying it forward."
