Smoke Shack

I get Uber Eats from here every now and then because they do a lot of buy one get one deals. Makes that expensive app almost reasonable. The restaurant is nice, efficient and a good vibe. I would definitely eat in person there. The Burgers are always good and they do a good job packaging orders and including everything you would need for takeout. The left overs reheat well too!

The restaurant has a good amount of parking, which made it easy to visit. Seating is limited. I ordered through the kiosk, which was quick and convenient. I got the Dubai Chocolate Shake. It was good overall, but the chocolate used was very dark richer than I expected and not really to my taste. If you're into dark chocolate, you might enjoy it more than I did.

Chicken stack with lettuce wrap (no bun)

I ordered from this place via uber eats I actually was very surprised how quickly they got my order. I ordered BOGO free Chicken shack with lettuce instead of bun. Every ingredient was fresh from the lettuce wrap, red onions, tomatoes, pickles. The price was reasonable, came out to $10 per stack.

I think the staff might be a bit too carefree when prepping the food--found an onion peel in my burger, which was very unpleasant. The Dubai Shake was definitely a treat, but incredibly rich; a few sips were enough before it became overwhelming. The ambiance is casual and modern, nothing particularly special. Overall, it feels like your typical fast-food joint, nothing to rave about, but okay for a quick bite if you're not too picky.

The shake shack is a nice spot if you want to take a break from drive thrus. It is an eat in spot with indoor and outdoor dinning. You order your food on a screen inside the restaurant then someone brings it to you but it's not a waiter service. The food was made to order and tasted good. I believe for our table of two we spent about 60 bucks so it kinda pricey in my opinion. I've had better for less.

I've been a huge fan of Shake Shack for years, beginning with the first times I tried it in NYC & New Jersey. So I was very excited when a location opened in the Town Center area of Virginia Beach. It has always been my choice, when running errands or doctors appointments & requiring a quick, small lunch until dinner. The convenience of ordering a ShakeBurger on their App & having it ready when I arrived was great. For a long time they also had a feature where an employee would bring your order to the vehicle when you arrived. Now you have to go inside to pick up the order. The reason for the change in my review from 5 stars to 3 is the change in the quality of the beef. When they first opened the high quality beef I expected was used. Recently they haven't been the same, tasting like they had a lot of filler. The quality was similar to fast food restaurants where I will never eat. This definitely wasn't a "Steak" Burger. Is this locally sourced beef? Has it been only a degradation of the meat quality at this location? I'll have to try a Shake Shack in Brooklyn to determine. I wish my much loved ShakeBurger would return to high quality beef, even if it's more expensive. I prefer quality to pricing, Until the beef sourcing is improved I won't be using Shake Shack as a quick small lunch.

Check out was simple and quick. We sat down for our carryout for less than five minutes, our food was hot and fresh. Drinks were nice and potent. I'm already banking on the next time. I will get Shake shack.!! It was so good.

"You know how long I been waiting for this? Whoo, I'm aboutta make a name for myself here." Hehe reunited with Shake Shack after yearssssss apart (NYC, Winter Park) and it felt so good!! I never forgot how satisfying their veggie burger is with the patty plus downed it with a cookies n' cream shake. My bae got the limited edition Carolina BBQ with frickles (fried pickles). He also got the limited edition strawberry frosted donut shake which tasted like a giant sprinkle! Ordering was seamless thanks to their tablets on the side. I noticed you could order online as well. A gift for indecisive folks where you can read the descriptions at your leisure and pick whatever you like from seasonal lemonade drinks to seasonal shakes!! I get full from their burgers but wish I had another stomach for their fries! I haven't tried their chicken sandwich but would like to one day. Looks super appetizing. We took our meal to-go but in the meantime used the restroom (one stall per room so may have to wait) and I filled up my water bottle thanks to their water station! I wish Shake Shack would come to Charleston, SC..they would do great in the Nexton/Summerville area or North Charleston part of town!!

Carolina BBQ Burger with Fried Pickles

I stopped here for a quick burger. I ordered on one of the kiosks provided. The food came out pretty quick. I had the Carolina BBQ Burger with Fried Pickles and to drink the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Shake. The burger was good better than the fast food chains. The shake was good but I didn't like the toasted kataifi shredded phyllo. It kept clogging the straw and I don't like drinking chunky items in my shakes. The service was quick. Not a whole lot of interaction with the staff. The atmosphere is fitting for the type of food with a nice outside eating area. The bathrooms could use an upgrade. It's a one person at a time type of bathroom but there is room to add partitions to allow more guests to be able to use at a time. There was a pretty long line for the men's room. Overall, I would recommend this place especially if you're looking for a quick bite to eat that's better than other quick burger spots.

Been wanting to try this location since I've moved here. Finally went today and everything ran smoothly. Ordering at the kiosk was a breeze and self-explanatory. While waiting for our food, I went to the condiment and soft drink station to grab napkins and utensils; it was very clean and well organized. A few minutes later, our food arrived at our table and the staff member had a friendly smile. Food was delicious, I asked for the double shack burger extra, extra well done, and they did not disappoint! Only one toilet for each gender, so you may have to wait, but it was extremely clean. I like how they don't let it get messy. I'll be back for sure!

Most boring exterior. Ever.
Michael M.

The most boring exterior that you'll ever see; it makes ikea look avant garde. The industrial theme continues inside, where the self-service terminals allow you to order without ever speaking to a human. While waiting for our food, I mentioned to my wife that I had dropped my keys in a puddle outside and no they were sticky; a worker who was cleaning tables overheard, found me at the table, and brought me a sanitizer wipe to clean up my keys. Obviously that's no reflection on the food, but it SURE IS a reflection on the people working there, who were all very friendly and helpful. The fries are the sort of crinkle-cut fries you remember from middle school: they haven't improved much. The burgers are fantastic. They're kinda tiny, but when you consider that you're getting made from scratch quality at drive-through prices... it's not a terrible trade-off. Overall, I give it four stars: five for quality, three for value.

Nice and chill place to go. I like that you walk in and you can order using the touchscreen ordering system, or walk up to the counter and get assistance. I prefer the touchscreen, I don't feel pressured to rush. It's easy, they made it so that you can easily find what you need. After paying for your order, you sit down and they bring your food to the table. Servers have always been nice and cheerful. You clean up after yourself when you're done eating so the area is as clean as others leave it. I do see people that work there cleaning and wiping tables down every now and then. As far as the food goes, it's great!! We just discovered this place not too long ago and have gone 3 times as a family. Sometimes my son goes with his friends. The food really is good, we've stopped going to our favorite burger place because this has become our new favorite.

They serve and it's in a can and poured into glasses. You can drink inside or on the patio; however you can't take it to go‍
Elizabeth C.

The service was great. We ordered at the kiosk went on the patio and 10 mins later our server was waiting on us like we were in a 5 restaurant. Our food was hot and delicious. I especially love their gluten-free buns, the toast them without you even asking. They have large bacterial wipes on the top of all the cans. The establishment was clean and busy; however the wait was not long. The only con I have is about the restrooms. There's only 1 per gender. Meaning depending there maybe a wait; however they are very well maintained.

The rude guy working the bar was neither friendly or pleasant. There were no napkins when food was served. I stood up and politely asked for some. I found some below the register and, since the guy was busy prepping drinks, I decided to get them myself. He then said, "okay do my job," which was unnecessary and rude. Though the other waiter was friendlier, service was overall bad.

Barrel 17 did not disappoint; when i got there i realized quickly i was the last to know because it was busy. It was non stop; attentive, taking orders, making drinks, checking back with others, she was truly impressive. The places was jumping; it was busy, casual and didn't slow down from the time we arrived until we left. Parking is challenging, there's a small lot beside the restaurant and a small lot behind it so if you can car pool you'll benefit yourselves. Now on to the star of the show - the food! The only knock I had was portion size. In a big guy with an even bigger appetite and when i left there i could've eaten my whole meal over again lol. But that's also because it was delicious. I got the mac n cheese starter, the Beast Burger, tater tots , and the biggest slice of chocolate cake I've ever had. Literally the biggest slice of cake ever- twice the size of my burger. Everything was delicious, from start to finish and if i were a person that had a normal appetite i would've left full like my friends did. Will definitely be back!

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

The menu is small but very intentionally focused. They offer smash burgers done right, the iconic Norfolk snap dog, ice-cold beers, wine, and classic cocktails, and the prices are honestly great for the quality. It's small, so definitely expect a wait during busy times, but it's absolutely worth it. They also have outdoor seating, which will be clutch once the warm weather really kicks in. I ordered a Modelo, the F&P style fries, and the Mickey Burger. The fries are next-level, very much giving In-N-Out animal style vibes topped with grilled onions, Goodboy sauce, and cheese. I could eat those alone and be happy. The Mickey Burger comes with a double patty, cheese, Goodboy sauce, pickles, lettuce, onions, and a sesame bun. I subbed the raw onions for grilled onions (highly recommend), and it was perfection. Juicy, crispy-edged, flavorful ... everything a smash burger should be. I truly can't express how good this place is. The service was great, the food was unreal, and I'm already planning my next visit. Next time, I'm definitely trying their espresso martini. Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

I've been told they aren't supposed to let you walk out with to go orders on their taco Tuesday, but if I pay for and eat some of my food who is this manager to say I can't leave with a to go box(which in most cases I have), but I digress. I tried to do it today and the manager comes to me with a nasty attitude over me not tipping enough for his standards telling me I can't take my food to go because he doesn't feel I tip enough and "what's a 5 dollar tip gonna do for him". Keep in mind I told him I'm not ordering food for just myself I sometimes take lunch orders from work which is never more than 5 to go small tacos. I've never been rude to this man I'm a quiet person so I usually order wait and leave. I work for a reputable company that sees a lot of tourism and I often recommended this spot to our guests but due to this situation I will be advising people to avoid this place if you're not just going to drink at the end of the night on The Weekend. In the specific event the owner of the restaurant was there and confirmed they weren't supposed to be doing to go tacos which I can respect. What I dont respect is the manager picking and choosing when he wants to follow the rules of the establishment for his own gain.
