while waiting for food, one of the meals prep staff was coughing, blowing nose ....did not see him walk his hands when he threw the tissue away. Then proceeded to take his hat off and run his hands through his hair over and over again...definitely no washing of hands with that. I asked for refund before collecting food. Manage did refund money however when I told him that was unsanitary, he proc to tell me to leave the restaurant and don't come back. Nice way to run a business. And I paid with a card, so I will be watching that for any suspicious activity....at least I would know the staff on at that date and time. read more

Burgers fries and shakes Smashburger is a relatively new chain restaurant that was started in 2007 in Denver. It spread quickly across the country and now has over 300 locations. This particular one has only been open for a couple of months. Smashburger has a simple menu, not a whole lot of stuff to choose from but what they have is pretty good. It's real easy to compare Smashburger to Five Guys and they are similar in many ways but Smashburger has slightly better burgers and offers milkshakes and Five Guys has better fries and gives out free peanuts. The fries at Smashburger are the thin wimpy kind but they're crisp and not bad. The milkshakes are good but nothing like Steak and Shake. The burgers are quite good and they offer a whole heap of different toppings. The restaurant itself is just what you would expect, you go up and order, pay, and then find a table and wait for your food. The place was clean and practical, a place to eat burgers and get out, not sit around and have conversations. Smashburger is a chain restaurant and nothing fancy or gourmet. But they do offer decent food at decent prices and is a step up from the really crappy burger places and a nice alternative to Five Guys. read more

My teenage daughter wanted "Smashburger" so my wife, my son, and I tried it. Negatives: One register open. No gloves on staff serving fries. Asked if we wanted signature sauces, they never arrived to our dine in experience. The burgers are fried. Vacuuming 1 hour before closing. Staff eating on the job. $56 for burgers, fries, onion "strings", and shakes. Very expensive. Poor location. Go to a 5 guys, unless you have peanut allergies. My wife's chicken was served to us by our server as " who had the egg?" as it looked like a fried egg. No fault of the server's the sandwich looked like an Eastern. We had to restrain my wife, she literally had to be held back from wreaking havoc. Positives: better than Red Robin, ummm, way better. The RI Burger had a pepper relish that was fresh and very tasty. The Smash fries were seasoned with fresh ingredients not some shaken on dry mix; the Smash fries changed my wife's mood from upset ( think Leo Goetz / Joe Pesce in Lethal Weapon drive thru scene) to tolerable ( think Dame Judy Dench in Any Bond movie). The shakes we tried, 4 different varieties, were worth every hard earned penny ( think $5 shake in Pulp Fiction). Great selection of burgers including poultry and vegetarian options. I love that I was able to customize my burger without a hassle. Refreshing side choices.... the veggie frites are amazing! To top it all off you can get a beer or glass of wine with your burger. The place was jammed shortly after I got there at 6pm and the staff seemed to handle it flawlessly. I paid almost $50 for two burgers and fries to be delivered, only because I'm typically extremely satisfied with smashburgerand found it worth it at the time to be lazy and get delivery. It was horrible. Both burgers we're made incorrectly. We were charged for additional toppings we never got. And we had to air fry the French fries because they were mushy and undercooked. I called them to tell them about my order and no one would pick up. Then I noticed there was a feedback website but it requires a store number from the receipt, which didn't exist. I'm just disappointed and won't ever get smashburger again after this experience. Seems unprofessional and they don't care to give the customer what they want. read more

I had such a craving for a classic style burger - you know, with all the fixings. I heard about this new spot open amidst the big burger revolution going on across the country. Now I've had the luxury of trying In-N-Out in CA and absolutely felt it was as great as its hyped to be. I wasn't as impressed with 5 Guys, greasy heartburn inducing foods in overwhelming amounts, and I have also tried Shake Shack and was less than impressed with that as well. Smashburger smashed it out of the park with their food for me. The Classic burger was tasty, just the right amount of toppings, flavors but not totally greasy meat all on a light egg bun. I ordered the regular style fries and they were perfect, those skinny little crispy ones that are just right. I was underwhelmed by the shake, I had the chocolate Oreo and my expectations as a RIer spoiled with Awful Awfuls would be to have some cookie pieces floating around in there. Also, the shake had a muted flavor where I like to taste the punch of whatever it is I ordered. It was still tasty but didn't meet my "shake standards". The cashier seemed confused when I asked for no cheese. Good sized seating area. The ideas is similar to Noodles & Co. Seat yourself, get your own drink and wait for your food to be brought to the table. Hot enough as it was delivered quickly. In anticipation I took a bite. It's a regular homemade hamburger! Nothing special, no fireworks. I can take it or leave it. Better than your run of the mill burger joint. I'm an In and Out kind of gal. For me, this place is neck and neck with 5 guys. The difference is that the quality seems a little higher here, they carry different styles of fries and they have solid milkshakes. I was starving and one of the suggestions to go eat at was Smash burger. I've always passed by the location every time I go to Trader Joe's but never actually ordered anything before. We ordered through the Yelp app and our order was about $40 for the Truffle Swiss Burger, Double BBQ Burger, two large smash fries and one Oreo milkshake. We were picking up our order and it was about 30 minutes away which would be ample time to have everything ready for pick up by the time we arrived. I was wrong. The app said our order was ready to pick up yet when I went in the store, the server seemed to be confused and looked frantically for my name and even asked the cook for my order. Only for him to find my order on their tablet and to tell me I had to wait another ten minutes for my order. So much for being "ready to pick up". The store was completely empty and our food ended up tasting less than satisfying. I would not recommend this location to anybody unless you want to waste money on mediocre food. read more

Awesome! Staff is friendly, restaurant is clean and the burgers are yummy. I get a build your own on an egg bun, Swiss cheese, sautéed onions and mushrooms with ketchup, mustard and of course lettuce and tomato. I've had the grilled chicken, although it's good, it's not as good as the burgers but a good option if you don't eat beef or just wang to switch it up. They have gluten free rolls which is good to know if you're dining with someone who doesn't or can't eat gluten. The onion strings are soooooo good but soooooo bad. Keep doing what you're doing but please please bring back the buffalo fries! read more

Not inexpensive, but pretty good burgers overall. We've been a couple of times and have had good experiences. There are plenty of options to add to your burger and some nice "preset" menu selections if you don't want to make your own. Since my wife doesn't eat beef, it's nice they have chicken sandwich selections as well. Also a plus is they serve beer and wine if you feel like having an adult beverage. I would say somewhat on par with Five Guys, but maybe a little better in they have more options for toppings and sides (and the aforementioned adult beverage selection). Of all the burger places this one is on top of the list. Their beef size and portion size of fries are smaller - but the herbs and spices are plentiful and fun. Its more then just your typical burger and fries - it's less greasy and interesting. You don't leave feeling loaded and blogged. Their fries are light and seasoned with happiness. With all the different places to get gourmet burgers, and when I say gourmet I mean other than BK or McD, Smashburger does a nice job. I would put it on par with a Five Guys as far as quality and toppings. The restaurant however seemed a little more upscale than a Five Guys though. The other difference between my comparison to a Five Guys is that I've visited many Five Guys restaurants and have seen differences in their locations in cleanliness and food presentation, whereas I've only been to the one Smashburger in Warwick. Have been trying to get to Smashburger for quite a while and now I think I am hooked!! The RI burger served on an egg bun was excellent although I would need a bit less of the spicy mustard - loved the provolone and yes, isn't it wonderful that the RI Smashburger highlights a RI Burger - thank you, spoken from the heart of a RI native! The smashfries were tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary & garlic and the sweet potato smashfries were tremendous as were the thin, haystack onion - not at all greasy. Also, I had the opportunity to try part of the classic smash burger which is the best of the best "All-American" burger. I thought, "Oh, no, I love this one too!" And, having part of the Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger, all I could think of was how flavorful it was with the garlic sautéed mushrooms and truffle mayo.The "sweetest" part of the meal was the Oreo milk shake - yum - I want to try a few other flavors too. After having fries at other places (hello 5 Guys) that are fresh, hand cut, these just do not come close to being as good. The place was nice, clean, service was fine although the girl taking our orders was confused when my wife wanted to get mayo instead of smashsauce. They went back and forth 3 or 4 times with the girl not getting it and my wife patiently repeating "mayo instead of smashsauce" and the girl kept replying "no sauce". It was pretty funny actually. They have a few beers, including Grey Sail Captain's Daughter, so that's cool. Wine too, I think. Overall, there's not much to prefer to my favorite but it's not bad. This place was highly recommended by someone I regard as a good judge of food quality. And it was good...fine...but nothing to really write home about. The line to order backed up and out the door quickly. There were menus to peruse while waiting which was helpful, especially because the big board above the register had small print. It helped the line move along quickly, too. The restaurant is normal except for one exception that threw me off a little. The final food prep station isn't separated from the dining area. I almost went right up to the counter and reached for a plastic fork because it was right in front of me with no barrier. I don't know if I like that the food prep area is so accessible to anyone, seems a little unsanitary. We ordered two regular-sized burgers - a classic for me and a spicy once for the hubbie - an order of smashfries and an order of haystack onions. My burger was a bit salty, but not bad. Cooked well, the bun was good. My husband liked his, too, but again, not blown away. The smashfries were good, but the onions were better, mostly because of the sauce it came with. Two burgers, two sides, and a soda to share came out to over $22. Just too much for, essentially, fast food. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I stopped in there the other night because I was craving a burger and thought I'd try some place new. The ordering was fast and I got my order quickly too. A cheeseburger, medium fries and a Coke. Took it all home. The fries were decent and when I looked at the burger I was impressed. Though I didn't order toppings I got lettuce, tomato and onions with a bit of may. Yep, my kind of burger. I tried the fries cause I can deal with a less than hot burger but not cold fries. The fries were not bad and I ate them quickly. The burger on the other hand ... not so good. Like I said it had all the fixings I like but from the first bite, the burger was very dry, not juicy at all. I ended up eating the whole thing but regretted not going to Burger King in the next plaza down ... and I hate fast food burgers. :) Bottom line, unless you like less than juicy (read very dry) burgers fo someplace else like Burger King for a lot less money. read more

Went there on Saturday because I was going to Trader Joes to do some shopping. Decided to give it a try instead of going to Panera. Ordered a BBQ Bacon Cheese burger and fries. DRY DRY DRY got this dry burger with no visible signs of the BBQ sauce only to be told it was under the cheese...not much there either. I did get extra sauce for the burger but it did not help the dry patty. 5 Guys they know how to have a nice juicy burger, Smashburger needs to learn that. The fries are shoe string and were again very dry like they were a sitting out and it was not like it was fresh made. Nice place to be in but the food is not worth the price, So now that I have tried it I will not be going back anytime soon. read more
