    Double smash cheeseburger

Ok what do I say here. The burger I had was wonderful. Juicy meat, plenty of toppings. I'm also a pretty big fan of the fries with the rosemary garlic seasoning. So good job by the cooks. But as far as the service goes... not good. There was one other customer and he was already eating, so it's not as if they were busy. A guy stood at the counter, I asked how he was doing, and he froze. His manager came over to help. Didn't greet me, didn't smile, she just looked at me waiting for me to speak. I was made to feel like an inconvenience. And the soda machine was turned off, I had to turn it on for myself. Plus there aren't napkins at the service station, I had to ask for those also. While I liked the food and would visit another location, I have no desire to go back here.

    DOUBLE SMOKED BACON BRISKET BURGER

I'm a carnivore type of gal. I enjoy my meat medium rare, if they are able to accommodate. Some places can only cook burgers medium well for safety precautions which is understandable. The hubs surprised me with take out through Uber eats for smash burger. Ordering delivery on the weekend is a treat so I was pretty excited. I had no input on my order as my better half says I take forever to decide on what to eat. What can I say... the menu can be extensive, and I need to think if I'm in the mood for whatever option they have lol. So I received the double smoked bacon brisket burger, large garlic fries and a cookies and cream milk shake. The hubs chose the double bbq bacon cheese burger in addition to fries, and a strawberry milkshake. Let me just say my burger was big, hefty, juicy, meaty, and a mouthful. My blood pressure probably shot up to the roof. It was salty so guys make sure there is a gallon of water near you. I think the meat patties were heavily seasoned with salt, so if any of you are sensitive to sodium this might give you a headache. The brisket was good, fries were tasty, and cookies and cream milk shake was cold, and creamy. The hubs said there was a bit more of BBQ on his burger than expected. Overall not bad. I had already visited their shop a few times, and employees are friendly. They also support veterans on Veterans Day with a free burger which is awesome.

4/4/21: Today was our very first visit, and we almost didn't stop by because they wouldn't answer their phone. So, we figured they were closed for Easter. After getting something to eat at a restaurant around the corner, a few family members wanted to stop by and get a bite here as well. We pulled up around 7 pm & they were open. They weren't busy at all. Yayyy! My family member went inside to get the food & came back with 3 sandwiches (2 chicken & 1 burger), onion straws, smash fries, & 4 drinks. Out of all that food, only 1 chicken sandwich was right. The fries were cold but the flavor was yummy. The onion straws had a funny flavor to it that nearly made us vomit. It was like a weird garlicky/sour taste & was very off putting. Not only that, but for $4 it came in a container not even half full. The nerve! The other chicken sandwich was dry/burnt (the bacon on it was burnt also) and was missing cheese. The burger was missing ketchup, tomato, lettuce, onion, & mayo!! I mean, did they listen to the order at all???? Needless to say, this was the first and last time here. We could've gone around the corner to Wendy's & got better food.

I'm not on the peninsula as much as I used to be, but I really wanted to try Smashburger. I'm trying to cut down on my red meat intake so I love that they offer alternatives. I decided to go with their Classic Smash Turkey Burger. It was flavorful, and mostly importantly, not dry! Fries are my favorite food, and I can say I'm a fan of these. They were crispy and the rosemary and garlic are a nice touch. Whenever I'm on that side, I will make it a point to stop here again!

Update: After following directions from Lexi at Smashburger and posting a copy of my review and the location of the Smashburger I had the displeasure of visiting on Friday, April 29th, I have heard absolutely nothing. The apathy runs deep in this organization. I will be posting my review on other sites until I receive a reply. At this time I want nothing less than a full monetary refund; I will never visit another Smashburger again because of this unpleasant experience.

I decided to try Smashburger because I've heard mixed reviews about it. I ordered rosemary garlic tots with a single smashed burger with cheese, mayo and onions. It was an average burger to me. The tots were pretty good, I love the rosemary and garlic taste on the tots. I'll be back for a good cheat meal. All and all my first experience here was pretty good.

I've never seen such a fun menu before my mom and I both ordered the honey butter buzz chicken sandwich. I also got a side of waffle fries. My mom ordered the triple chocolate shake. They gave you a lot of fries so I tried to split them with my mom, but she didn't like them. They weren't very hot and they had heavy seasoning on a few and the rest were kind of bland. The sandwiches were a little spicy. And we were supposed to get no spice, but I think they put spice on it anyway mine was just a little spicy. My mom's was more spicy, but that might be because she doesn't like any spice at all. Overall, ambience was good. No complaints at all. I felt very comfortable there. And I lied to my sandwich. Smitty's has been around for a minute, specializing in traditional fast food: burgers, fries, hot dogs, onion rings, etc. The ambiance reminded me of those 50's style drive up food places where a waitress on roller skates would bring your food out on a tray and hook it on your car window for you to enjoy on the lot! We pulled into the lot and we saw folks eating in their cars. I got out to go in to place an order when I saw a sign on the door that said "staff only" and realized that you stay IN your car the the wait staff will come to your car to take your order! We were greeted by a pleasant young lady and she took our order: double cheeseburger with fries and a side order of battered onion rings. After taking our order, she placed a pink tag on our windshield. Our order was done in no time. When the young lady brought it to us, we paid her then. She had a traditional metal change dispenser on her waist too! The burger was SO good: the bun was fresh, the burger good with melted cheese and fried onions. The fries were crispy and fresh. The battered onion rings were SO good: whole onion slices surrounded in a nice crispy, non-greasy batter. All in all, I'm so glad we finally stopped by Smitty's. They have a pretty extensive menu for a burger joint, with nine Valhallas (stuffed burgers), almost 2 dozen signature sandwiches (think patty melts), several regular burgers, hotdogs, and several sides including onion rings (they were out today), tots, several iterations of fries, and nachos. I ordered the Jana - a Valhalla stuffed with Swiss and Muenster cheeses and mushrooms, topped with a fried egg and "Viking Sauce," a sort of chili or meat sauce that seems to be made from turkey. It's huge- I practically had to unhinge my jaw like the Midgard Serpent to bite it! This is a $15 burger and it is well worth it. Understand that when they say "stuffed burger," it's basically two burgers with the stuffing squashed between them on a nice, big bun. I may not need to eat again today. My Bride got the Frigga sandwich - a beef patty with bacon, caramelized onion, Gouda cheese and grilled pineapple tidbits. At $11.50, it's reasonably priced, and must have been good- she wolfed it down like it was Tyr's hand. We opted for combos so we both got tater tots crispy enough to do ASMR videos with and drinks- they have both fountain and bottled drinks available. We had one of each. With Newport News' exorbitant meals tax, lunch came to $46 before tip. I'm not even mad about it- it was worth every penny. An excellent meal with some great customer service. I'm not likely to make the hour drive just to eat here, but I will certainly be back anytime I'm in town already and need to slay my hunger Viking style!

It is a 14 inch burrito that you can hold in your hand with guac, shredded Monterey Jack, carne asada steak, crispy fries with cotija cheese. There was a big group of people (maybe 10-12) in there when we arrived that was eating up a lot of the attention of the one waiter. Also, we had a long wait for food because they actually ran out of steak that was prepped and so they had to prep more and grill it up for the burrito. My friend got the OG burrito which he thought was good, but was a little soggy from the juice from the chicken. Even with everything, I would still recommend this place, and their California burrito was amazing.

They have a $5 before 5 app and drink special menu that is a really good deal. Nice spot for adults to have some drinks. Just be patient as service is generally slow. Now onto my recent experience.... I suggested it to some friends who wanted to grab some beers on MLK day which was a Monday. There were 4 of us guys and 7 kids. It's a lot. I get it. They weren't overly busy. Maybe a quarter full. I tried to keep the kids away from other tables by giving them boundaries. They were not happy with us. They didn't like the kids being outside in their patio (freezing, no one out there) etc. The one server was getting destroyed. She had just like 6 tables, but a 16 top. I felt badly for her. Our drinks correspondingly took about 20-30 minutes each time we tried to order. She was nice when she could get to us. At one point a person who said they were a manager, I think she said her name was Hannah, came over and said the kids couldn't be going around (again, I had boundaries not by any other patrons etc. from what I could see they were honoring them, but who knows), anyway she asked if we could keep them by us, which is fine. I then asked her if I could put in a beer and app order as I had been waiting for our server with an empty beer for at least 20 minutes. Instead of taking the order and ringing it in, she said she'd send the server over and disappeared never to be seen again. 5 minutes Iater the server was able to get free from her big table and get our beer orders and food in. Several items were forgot, but at this point we were kind of over it. Just not really your typical relaxed brewery vibe. Felt like they wanted it to be more of a sit down restaurant. That big long story to say it's not a spot for kids. Overall food and drinks are solid. Beer is solidly middle of the pack for Peninsula. Management needs some work.
