So - Door Dash gave me some kind of new year deal where if I tried somewhere new, I got a fairly substantial discount. I was craving a craft burger, and I usually order those from Red Robin -- but the deal was enticing so I went ahead and decided to try Smashburger. I ordered the truffle mushroom smashburger and sweet potato waffle fries. I gotta say, for the price, it was just...eh. Edible for sure, but nothing super fabulous either. I can make a better burger in my oven at home than this was, and the sweet potato fries were okay for sure, but nothing spectacular. Delivery took a while too for some reason. I recently tried Smashburger for the first time and cannot say enough good things about them. My wife and I both ordered the Smoked Brisket Bacon Smashburger. I added a side of "Smashfries" (cheese & bacon covered fries). My wife got the "Smashtots" (cheese & bacon covered tatertots). My grandson ordered the Double Truffle Mushroom Smashburger. Though it took a bit of time for our order to arrive (from what we saw, they have a hugh takeout business), it finally came out -- so hot we almost could not eat it. The Brisket Bacon Smash was enormous and incredibly favorable - a bit messy with BBQ sauce ah dripping. My grandson's Mushroom Smash was significantly smaller than ours - almost like a mini-burger - but he said it was also hot, favorable and delicious. Both the Smashtots and Smashfries truly justified the term, "loaded", being covered in bacon and almost swimming in delicious melted cheese (not the typical Cheez-Wiz dip). They have a unique selection of fountain drinks (Dragon Juice, etc.) which were not quite as good as they sounded, so I wound up sticking to the standard soda. The cost is not exorbitant but Smashburger is not cheap. Their burgers cost $10-$14, but the amount of food you get makes it feel worth the price. I compare that to another premium burger joint like Five Guys which has a similar cost for their burgers, but the value just does not feel be the same, which is why I stopped going to Five Guys. The ONLY negative about the entire visit, was that one of the persons waiting on us had dreadlocks literally down to her knees. Hair like that in a restaurant environment is always less than desirable. But it appeared well kept and so was a relatively minor issue. All in all, Smashburger is was a delightful new restaurant discovery; one which I hope to visit often. read more

Ok what do I say here. The burger I had was wonderful. Juicy meat, plenty of toppings. I'm also a pretty big fan of the fries with the rosemary garlic seasoning. So good job by the cooks. But as far as the service goes... not good. There was one other customer and he was already eating, so it's not as if they were busy. A guy stood at the counter, I asked how he was doing, and he froze. His manager came over to help. Didn't greet me, didn't smile, she just looked at me waiting for me to speak. I was made to feel like an inconvenience. And the soda machine was turned off, I had to turn it on for myself. Plus there aren't napkins at the service station, I had to ask for those also. I'm a carnivore type of gal. I enjoy my meat medium rare, if they are able to accommodate. Some places can only cook burgers medium well for safety precautions which is understandable. The hubs surprised me with take out through Uber eats for smash burger. Ordering delivery on the weekend is a treat so I was pretty excited. I had no input on my order as my better half says I take forever to decide on what to eat. What can I say... the menu can be extensive, and I need to think if I'm in the mood for whatever option they have lol. So I received the double smoked bacon brisket burger, large garlic fries and a cookies and cream milk shake. The hubs chose the double bbq bacon cheese burger in addition to fries, and a strawberry milkshake. Let me just say my burger was big, hefty, juicy, meaty, and a mouthful. My blood pressure probably shot up to the roof. It was salty so guys make sure there is a gallon of water near you. I think the meat patties were heavily seasoned with salt, so if any of you are sensitive to sodium this might give you a headache. The brisket was good, fries were tasty, and cookies and cream milk shake was cold, and creamy. The hubs said there was a bit more of BBQ on his burger than expected. Overall not bad. 4/4/21: Today was our very first visit, and we almost didn't stop by because they wouldn't answer their phone. So, we figured they were closed for Easter. After getting something to eat at a restaurant around the corner, a few family members wanted to stop by and get a bite here as well. We pulled up around 7 pm & they were open. They weren't busy at all. Yayyy! My family member went inside to get the food & came back with 3 sandwiches (2 chicken & 1 burger), onion straws, smash fries, & 4 drinks. Out of all that food, only 1 chicken sandwich was right. The fries were cold but the flavor was yummy. The onion straws had a funny flavor to it that nearly made us vomit. It was like a weird garlicky/sour taste & was very off putting. Not only that, but for $4 it came in a container not even half full. The nerve! The other chicken sandwich was dry/burnt (the bacon on it was burnt also) and was missing cheese. The burger was missing ketchup, tomato, lettuce, onion, & mayo!! Ordered classic smash cheeseburger, reg French fry & salted caramel shake. The fries and cheeseburger are average quality but the salted caramel shake is better than others I've had. If I came back, I'd come back for the shake alone. Service- I was not greeted with eye contact or verbally upon arrival even though there was a gal standing/working at the counter making shakes. I arrived and waited & then eventually another couple arrived; took a good 4 minutes in fact for anyone to take my order. At one point I wondered if I was to use the large screen to type in my order and even tried to play around to see if that was how I was supposed to order because the gal behind the counter was not acknowledging me or offering to take my order. Then a different gal showed up and offered to take my order. I ordered & patiently waited. Several orders surfaced and were bagged, assuming they were online orders & my order was up in a pretty timely order. I reminded the gal I still needed my shake to complete my order & she pointed to the gal saying she would make it. This was the same gal I mistakenly thought would greet me & take my order. She had washed a table and the back counter and messed with her gloves while I was waiting for my order to be handed to me. She needed to be prompted to make my shake. I would suggest that guests be greeted upon entry if you are assigned to be working up front, even if with eye contact so guests feel acknowledged. If the one gal is assigned to just making shakes & table clean up, I would suggest she tackle new shake orders first & then go buss a table, especially when the restaurant was pretty empty and tables weren't needed. She did spend quality time washing the table but feel like customers could be sipping on their shake while waiting for the order. Instead I had to wait until my food order was in my head for her to start on my shake. Total time from entry & leaving was 22 minutes. I'm not on the peninsula as much as I used to be, but I really wanted to try Smashburger. I'm trying to cut down on my red meat intake so I love that they offer alternatives. I decided to go with their Classic Smash Turkey Burger. It was flavorful, and mostly importantly, not dry! Fries are my favorite food, and I can say I'm a fan of these. Overview - My wife and I went to Smashburger for the first time for a date since we have never went. That atmosphere was nice, it was pretty inside and well taken care of. Pros: Well maintained restaurant, great service, good options to choose from, short wait times, food made to order, food came out hot. Cons: The food was awfully overpriced, the bill came up to over $40 for two meals and a milkshake. Quality was okay but it was overlooked by the terrible seasoning of the food. For starters the burgers tastes horrid and the tater tots were absolutely caked in rosemary where they were inedible. Moving forward I tried a chocolate milkshake because how can you mess that up? Well it had a terrible aftertaste that tastes like how burning plastic smells. Probably never going back because the food just isn't worth the prices. After placing an on-line order for a 4:30 pick up (placed at 2:30 p.m.), I arrived at 4:27. The order wasn't ready. I was a little annoyed, but it wasn't 4:30 yet so I took a seat to wait. At 4:45 I still hadn't received my order, but those that ordered during and after me were served and sent on their way. There seemed to be no urgency, no attentiveness at all. Instead, I listened to conversations about things that didn't matter, and was utterly ignored until 10 minutes after 5:00. What is the point of placing an order on line, to pick up at a certain time if I sendup waiting over 30 minutes after I arrive to pick it up? No apology was offered, not even a direct look in the eye when I was given my food. I used to love this Lsestablisment for its trendy food, and bright and inviting space. I no longer think this after today. The service was horrible and the food forgettable. I spent time and money to be ignored and underwhelmed. To your staff and establishment in Hampton Roads, VA in the Peninsula Town Center, It is truly upsetting that I or any customer would have to deal with the feeling of not mattering to the people that are there to serve and be hospitable to the customer. I was so excited to see that they opened a Smashburger in the Hampton Roads area! Finally! Unfortunately, it did not live up to any of the expectations we had for the ones up in Northern VA. It doesn't even live up to any of the burger places around here. The lady greeted us when we got in, and the menu looked good. It was very similar to Mooyah, they had some burgers on the menu or you could make your own. I went with the original Smashburger, regular size. My boyfriend ordered after me and got another specialty burger in a large size. He got fried pickles, and I got the smashburger specialty fries that were tossed in olive oil, garlic, and rosemary. The layout of the restaurant is even similar to that of the Mooyah in Tech Center (Newport News). It's not great, there's a medium size main dining area, and then you walk towards the back of the restaurant. There's some more seating in a thinner hallway area. Instead of a napkin dispenser on the tables, they just had stack of napkins jammed into some metal stand. It was weird, and I didn't particularly care for it. It made me feel like the napkins were just getting more germs/food particles on it. Ick. The food took a weirdly long time to come out. They had a lady putting orders together when the burgers came out and another food runner. They were STRUGGLING. Even though they had the tickets in front of them, for some reason they still didn't know what to put in the bags/tray. They let some burgers sit there for a couple of minutes before figuring out which orders they belonged to .They would pick up burgers, hold them in their hand and stare at it for a while, before just looking around. It was kind of sad. My boyfriend's burger came out first, even though I had ordered first. It was a couple of minutes till the next food order came out, which again wasn't mine. I flagged down the food runner and asked him if my order was coming up. It took a couple of minutes till it came out. Disappointing. The food wasn't worth the wait either. The fried pickles are pickle chips, not pickle spears which I liked a lot! They were good, nothing special. My fries were just regular fries. I had to flag down the food runner again and asked him about my fries. They brought it out again, but I'm pretty sure they just sprinkled rosemary on top. They didn't have any garlic on them, and the fries on the bottom didn't have any rosemary on it. The burgers were OK. I compared mine to my boyfriend's, and there really isn't too much of a difference between the regular and a large. The smashburger sauce wasn't anything too special either. The burgers are smashed down (hence the name smashburger), and I think I prefer the normal burgers. It's a little bit more expensive then Five Guy's, and you don't feel as full either. Save your money and your calories, and go to Five Guy's for a decent burger. read more

The owner needs to staff up and anticipate surrounding local events to know business will increase. Appears to be understaffed, bags of trash that needs to be taken out, dirt and lacks over management. As a side note the food was good, 1 cook, 1 fry person, 1 cashier, 2 helpers with giving out orders. The computer orders just kept coming and no extra help. The food was okay but it was the physical restaurant itself that left me unsure if I'd return. When I walked in, there was a smell of old oil that overpowered the restaurant. Ok, so I'm not a major burger person but this was good!! I ride pass Smashburger all the time and never think to stop in. Today a few friends and I went in randomly and it was worth a visit. As a first timer & someone not big on burgers I had some initial grumbles regarding prices but....after consuming I understood. Also, they are really awesome and offer a military discount AND they ask you so you don't have to worry about forgetting. The young lady at the counter was very nice and handle our first timer questions and "oh no maybe this..." so well. She did a great job of explaining that the egg bun wasn't an actual egg haha (the bun is yummy btw). Everything was so fresh! The burger was tasty it was just all in all great. i have never had any restaurant, fast food or casual, put so much f-ing salt on the fries. the regular version were very tasty but too salty. i love salty fries but i had to wipe the salt off most of them. just avoid the sweet potato waffle fries like the plague. they were thin, tough, and had no flavor. i didn't bother wiping off the salt because i wasn't going to finish eating them anyway. the cashier was pleasant. prices are insane like mooyah was, which had just shut down, which is why i tried Smashburger. would go back for the regular fries but the burger prices are ridiculous and mooyah's burgers weren't any better than the much cheaper burger king versions in the same shopping center. read more

I had to go healthy on my return trip. The salad was huge. I probably could have stopped half way through, but since it was on the pricy side I powered through. The chicken was grilled well, and the greens had a good amount of cheese, egg and bacon. I'm not sure how healthy my lunch actually was but hey, I FELT healthy :) shakes: both visits I tried my lunch mates shakes - one cookies and creme and one malt. amazeballz. my husband and I tried them today for the first time we where greeted with a smile and the helpfu assistance from Nana. she was very professional and willing to help with questions and very kind! Trey brought us our food which seemed in minutes he was very kind and made sure we had what we needed and that everything was as we wanted! the food was delicious it's been a long time since a burger wowed me. This is an update to my previous 5 star rating. I must admit that I am disappointed in the changes that Smashburger has made. Their old menu that had some pretty decent signature burgers that we (me and a couple of Co-workers) liked that are no longer available. We were told that the company was bought out and that the new owners changed the menu. Why??? What was wrong with the menu when you bought the company? Were the sandwiches we liked under performing? I grew to love this place through their smash pass promotion in the later part of 2018 and early 2019. I worked the whole menu and found my favorite and now it is gone. I'll use my smash rewards to get my next free meal, but my return visits will be few and far between. read more
