$24 for 2 meals and they messed up my order horrifically! First, they got my drink order WRONG, I ordered 2 milkshakes and they gave me sprite ... 2nd, my whole entire order was wrong when I went to pay. Luckily I peeked in the bag after I paid and got SOME items corrected (my personal order), however my daughter's order was just wrong and made up. Luckily , she's not that picky when she's STARVING so she just ate the meal, but I was still pissed!! I've been to a cookout before, the Newport News location was delicious! This Hampton location is trash, will not go again unfortunately. If u want 'cookout' and ur in the 757, don't go to the Hampton location, go to Newport News at least! read more

While the food is tasty when they don't mess up the order, the portions are significantly smaller than before ESPECIALLY the milkshakes is HALF the size of what it used to (not being dramatic) for the same price ($1.50 extra for a combo) while messing both trays. The customer service is average but it's not a good value anymore. I do not recommend. read more

Love the food and fast service! They always get the order right with here. They are very friendly and knowledgeable with their food

We are doing work in the Hampton area and I'm 5 hours out of town my boss said there was a cookout right down the street from the job site. I was so excited I offered to pay for everyone because there aren't a lot in my area. He went and picked up 2 "treys". I ordered 2 chicken strips and fries and slaw. I never even received my chicken strips. The fries I received were just old and soggy and slaw that wasn't even cold or good. Thanks for the coke though. read more

This place is a dual drive through restaurant. The line was backed up. To me that tells me the place is good. The food was a good portion size and the taste was good. Not the best I've ever had and definitely not the worst. I had the burger, add cheese, with fries and cheese bites. There is no inside seating. read more

I really wanted to try Cook Out since it's only available in southern states. I'm really surprised by the number of negative reviews since I had a great experience. We came at 10:30am on a Sunday and I believe we were the first ones to order (big back activity). We got the tray combo, chicken Cajun sandwich, bacon wrap, corn dog, and a watermelon shake. Food came out in a few minutes, and everything was fresh and surprisingly not too greasy. Not sure if it's because we came early but the quality was pretty good for fast food and everything was only $10 so great value. My only complaint is that the chicken was a bit dry but other than that everything tasted great. The watermelon shake was probably the best milkshake I've ever had omg there was actual watermelon pieces throughout the drink. Really wish there were more in the northern states. read more

Cook out is an unusual fast food option. From hot dogs, to burgers, to chicken, anything you'd find at a cook out. Love the concept but placing an order was difficult. The speaker to was inaudible. The food combos not easy. I would try again, my burger was not great but fries were tasty with the Cheerwine! Service is fast and accurate. Best of all the prices are more than reasonable. read more

Loved this place. I wish I took pics of the food. I got a double burger, fries, onion rings, quesedilla, and the big ass tea. It all came out to like $12 and I was like TWELEVE DOLLA?!?!. Anyways it was a good price imo. The portion sizes for each item are all baby sized imo, but everything together was very filling, and I really liked the variety of everything for just $12. I usually don't like going to places that serve a ton of diff foods, so I had my doubts at first, but once I got the food I was really happy. Service was great. Got my food probably within 5-10 minutes read more

I was with a local and we wanted some quick food after a long day. They told me this place was super fast and cheap, so we tried it. They told me the burgers are small but the prices aren't bad, so order a little more than you typically would. Long story short, the line was incredibly long and slow. To be fair, the person I was with kept saying that never happens so maybe the long wait was a fluke. Unfortunately, it will be my ONLY experience here so it's all I know to be true. The food was ridiculously small, bland and basic. I ordered more than I usually would so I spent more than I usually would and I still wasn't sated so, what is the point of coming here? I spent more time and money than I would have somewhere else to be left unsatisfied. This place is a perfect example of lo barato sale caro. read more

Visited my first Cook Out place in NC and it was a pleasant experience. They have a large menu but it is easy to read so you can quickly make your choices. My second visit was in VA and the setup is pretty much the same with the large menu and all. One location just had drive thru to service the driver's side or passenger side. The other VA location did offer seating and I did like that setup. read more

I have a meat allergy and they gave me chicken, At first no one picked up, then I was told to call back later for a refund, then was told I could not get a refund to my card unless I drive 3 hours back to hampton to do it in person. then the manager Lee hung up on me when I called back to ask why read more

Went at lunch. Not busy only one car in front of mine. Question: how does a person eat Cole slaw without a fork, spoon, or other utensil? Yeah I agree one must pour it into one's mouth. Not a good way to keep clean. And, because there were no napkins in the bag I really didn't think I could eat that slaw. What a waste. So much cheese, which under normal circumstances I would have said thanks...-again the lack of napkins... The speaker doesn't work well especially with loud traffic. I gave them a two because I knew the food was edible, and the gentleman was nice enough. read more

I cannot do it Every single friend of mine that I have met here in Virginia tells me about how good Cook Out is and How it's a great post club meal due to the cheap price and late night availability but I can't do it. Even if it's the only thing open late nights I'm good. This food is terrible, horrible... it should be a crime in the common wealth to serve Guantanamo bay detainee food to the public. Plain cheeseburgers that have no lettuce or nothing on it with smashed in stale bun bread. When I inquired about this they told me the fixing are upon request only! TERRIBLE. Says on their menu they're beef is 100% usda grade tasty beef I beg to differ...Cheap greasy limp fries HORRIBLE. The only thing I like was the employees nice attitudes and friendly customer service. Also, I loved my coke float but other than that Honey it's a no for me. read more

I normally don't ever come on here and write reviews, but this place was in need of one. I read a few of them and it seems like they all have a common theme: the food is great but the customer service is absolutely atrocious. The woman on the speaker box was getting frustrated because she couldn't hear our order. And when we repeated it, all we got in return was more attitude. When we pulled up to the window, they would ask us questions about our order and we'd again answer. But they'd snap back and say "cant hear you. What?" Very unprofessional. Then when we got our receipt they proceeded to crumble it up and give it to us. I feel like I'm not even welcome when I come here. Which is a shame because the food is great. But just watch out for the way the servers treat you. read more

I went through the Drive Thru at the Cook Out in Hampton, VA and ordered a Big Double Tray Cheese Burger with everything and two side orders of onion rings. When I opened up the plate and saw these small onion rings, I wanted to go back to Hampton, VA from Portsmouth and get my money back. They gave me 8 small onion rings. I've eaten at a Cook Out in Gloucester, VA and the onion rings was bigger and seasoned well. I'll never go back to the Cook Out in Hampton, Va again. read more

Food is good and the price is great, but the sides are pitiful. Sure you can pick two if you get a tray, but you'll only get 3 nuggets and barely 4 cheese bites. This is not the first time it's happened either. You're better off just buying the burger and getting a soda from the store read more

Yuck I don't know what has happened over the years but this place has increasingly unpleasant. If I could say yuck over and over again that would be my review. I am mad I went to two places before this and their lines were extremely long at this time of night. But noticing that cookout had two lines and a faster drive thru we decided to try our luck here. First of all it felt like I was in the club while we were in line. People dancing outside of their cars, a Facebook video was being filmed and an argument between the customer and an employee all happened within a 15 minute time frame. We finally get to order and I went for what I usually get when I come here. Whooooo playing it safe definitely didn't help me here. I ordered a cookout tray with chili cheese fries and a bbq pulled pork sandwich. We get to the window and all hands are on deck but there was so much exposed hair and no hairnets I was already uncomfortable. My order is up and it starts...what I actually got was dog food fries and the dogs barf in between two slices of bread. It was hideous and quite frankly disgusting. I tried. I really did but this right here was just not appetizing at all. I'm just fed up with these establishments feeding us this bull. Just because it's late at night doesn't mean you can feed us this slop! Do better cookout.. DO BETTER Oh on a positive note the fruit punch with light ice was amazing. read more

Cookout always has great service and I have never had an issue with my orders coming out right. They have the best shakes and you can mix them anyway you like. At best, this CookOut is just okay. It doesn't have a seating area or inside so it is one of those dual drive-thru locations. I really prefer to sit inside and eat, so I only go to this location when I need something quick, cheap, and easy. They have gotten my order wrong twice here, during this experience and my last one here. Why do I continue to come back? I think everybody deserves at least 2 shots....well, maybe it's because I was craving their amazing Quesadillas. Okay, it's definitely the second reason if we are being honest. Every time I go I get my usual; Grilled Chicken Sandwich CookOut Tray with Fries, Chicken Quesadilla, and a Cheerwine for the drink (I love me some Cheerwine). The last time I ordered it I received a regular beef burger. Not even their "Big Double" burger, just the single. Although I was pretty bummed, I still ate it because like I mentioned earlier they don't have a sit down area so I had already driven all the way home. This time I got my Grilled Chicken Sandwich but it literally had half of the things I asked for on it. Once again I still ate it, but I was definitely bummed. Nobody likes being bummed when spending their hard earned money. Step up your game CookOut! read more

Only go when the line is long ! Food will be hot & good asf. That means that they have to keep changing the food out. If the line short, it's been sitting lol. BUT it's good for a cheap price. I saw this place while moving and decided to drop in. First strike...found out it was drive thru only after walking up to the window and then asking a couple that had been sitting in their car. Second strike the little young dude (probably his first job) at the window had something stuck up his behind because he had the WORST attitude . With me being in customer service I hold that in HIGH regard. I don't care how amazing the product or in this case food is. Needless to say the food comes out and he just hands it to me. STRIKE THREE! Cmon man. Really?!?!! This will most likely be my first and last time coming here. Way to treat a customer...ESPECIALLY a first time customer. Lucky it was only $6 otherwise I'd want my money back. Btw...the food was adequate. read more

A great choice for when you get the hunger pangs after midnight. There are lots of choices and the lines seem to be long no matter the time. No worries though because the employees work fast and you're in and out in no time. The food is typical fast food but you get the bang for your buck. A quesadilla, chicken wrap, double patty burger, AND a drink for $6/7? Can't be beat. Of course you can mix and match your tray to your liking and there is a long list of where you can pick and choose from! We decided to try the cook out trays, my husband got a double burger with cheese, bacon, mayo and onion. His two sides were onion rings and a chicken wrap, he paid an extra dollar for a cappuccino shake. When he first tried the shake he said he couldn't tell if it was just regular vanilla or what he had ordered, as it melted he said he could taste the cappuccino more. Shakes are decent, definitely not as good as Steak 'n Shake or sonic. The onion rings were decent, I didn't think they had that much flavor, tasted pretty plain. We both laughed because his meal only came with four! We were expecting a little bit more. Bacon wrap had a lot of tortilla, didn't seem to have much bacon. He ended up giving it to me, the bacon was nice and crispy and had great flavor to it. He also said his burger was pretty good. I also had a tray with a pork sandwich, was overjoyed that she made sure if I wanted hot sauce or not, my meal would have been ruined if I had got home and had Texas Pete on my sandwich (can't stand hot sauce, so a big plus that she asked!). I also don't usually like slaw but it was actually really good on top of my sandwich, very yummy and flavorful. The chili portion size also seemed small because honestly it was delicious! I could have eaten a big bowl of it in no time. I got a decent amount of hush puppies compared to my husbands onion rings, they were also really good. Definitely will be returning, we probably won't do the cook out tray this time in hopes for bigger portion size. The price was also decently cheap, all together it cost us 13 and some change. read more

The food is very affordable and you get a lot for your money. Their food tastes pretty Decent.

The food is stale soggy and cold. I paid for chili cheese fries didn't receive them, called the manager asked for a refund on the chili fries only and he basically said too bad. Before this visit, I've never been to Cookout since there are none in MD but have always heard awesome things about it. I finally got a chance to try it on our way to Fort Monroe. I ordered the Small burger Jr. Tray with French Fries and onion rings. I was impressed with the almost of food comes on the Jr tray. It was so much and best of all... it was under $5. The burger was great and the fries were fresh and hot. I could have went without the onion rings. They were horrible. Our service wasn't bad. We did have two orders, which made things complicated but the cashier got our orders correct. Definitely would go back to a Cookout location if I'm nearby.
