I come here to get my fried chicken and corn fritter fix ! The staff is always super nice and efficient. The restaurant is a little small but they deliver BIG flavor! The food is absolutely delicious - it tastes like it came straight out of your grandmama's kitchen. I'm from the south where we like to eat & this is one of my steeple places to eat comfort food! Always a pleasure, and always taken care of!!! (Heads up on the man who hangs around the front.. he stays asking for a big chick combo with fries and cherry soda) lol he gets me every time & I always buy for him. I have been to this Chic a Sea for decades. People have an issue with the location. The church was originally a grocery store and the restaurant (which used to be a tad bigger) was in a strip mall. Everything in the strip mall has changed (now a school or day care), the grocery store is now a church, but Chic a Sea is still frying chicken and people are still lining up to get it. I've been going to this restaurant for years. The food still reminds me of my childhood. Going there with family and friends. The only thing missing was the soft serve ice cream. The service is still open and friendly. There still isn't a long wait for your order. All in pretty good for a family run business. I've recently heard this place mentioned in a song and on other friends' social media posts, so I figured it was worth the try. The restaurant is attached to a church and I initially thought the Chick a Sea sign was just left up in rememberance. Thank goodness there was a church member outside because she directed us to the entrance. Upon entering, the view, the signage, and smell aren't too appealing and it basically is a hole in the wall joint with a Ms. PAC MAN arcade game and enough seating to fit about 8 people. The staff at the register were extremely nice and patient. They are behind a glass, but seemed to hear me pretty well. Looking behind the staff at the register. I saw a huge cutting board with whole chickens being cut and dipped in flour. It is made FRESH! There was another employee in the back informing everyone of what needed to be cleaned for the night so that is a plus. We ordered the 3 piece dinner with macaroni salad and a 5 wing meal with fries with Cherry Soda. I wasn't adventurous enough to try any side other than fries. The sides were ok, but the chicken is what I will definitely order next time. My chicken was still a nice warm temperature after arriving back to the house. It wasn't over seasoned, but it had enough seasoning on it where the flavor was just right. Definitely going back, but again, only for the chicken! read more

I go there at least once a week for a big chick or a green plate. The food is always good and fresh. Customer service is good for the most part, they take the order and you wait lol it's that simple. There is no ambiance or aesthetically pleasing parts about this place just get your food and bounce. I saw a person review that stated two stars because she went and didn't see the restaurant well Lynn it's there and there was never a drive thru at the Hampton location. I have grown up on Chic A Sea's food and surprisingly, even when I was a child - I remember the service being slow, the associates being rude, but the food was on point! I'm talking slap your mama good! This chain (only available in Hampton and Newport News) is like the best chicken shack experience ever (only when it comes to the food!) I fancy a big chic, but the wings and the gizzards are good with fries or corn fritters! The wild cherry soda is the icing on the cake, like where do y'all find this specific brand of cherry soda?! Is it a secret recipe?! Anyway, be mindful that every Chic a Sea is in a sketchy neighborhood (I'm being politically correct but it's in the hood). I was at this location last week and a fight almost broke out between a customer and the cashier. Seriously. I just wanted my chicken! I was willing to risk my life for it. I have been to this location many times, but never thought about writing a review. The place is too small to eat at and location is odd as well. They are located inside of a church on W. Pembroke Ave. Not the greatest looking place so I always just pick up my food. I love the chicken gizzards and normally I try to get my wife to pick up two orders on her way sometimes. The fried chicken is one of my favorites as it is seasoned just right and hot and crunchy always. Never had any of the fish, but people say it is good as well. The apple turnover is tasty as well. Another popular item is the Big Chic (chicken sandwich)and I have been meaning to try the shrimp basket as well one of these days. While not the most welcomed looking place the staff is very professional and friendly so I would give Chic-a-Sea a good if in the area and want some simple fried foods. Lastly I would highly recommended that if you know what you want to just call it in so to make your wait a lot shorter. read more

I would open one of these up if I had the talent to prepare such delicious comidas. I always get those fish burger things and the apple or corn "fritters" that come with it.
