My husband and I stopped at Smashburger in Destin because the aroma coming from the restaurant was so inviting while we were shopping nearby. Unfortunately, what started as a promising experience quickly turned into one that left us uncomfortable and unable to eat the food we ordered. When we entered, the restaurant was fairly busy, but it did not take long to place our order. While waiting, we observed a cashier who appeared to be assisting with both customer service and food preparation. Repeatedly, she would remove her hat, touch and rub her hair, wipe her face and mouth area, handle cash and customer transactions, and then return to the food preparation area without washing or sanitizing her hands. We watched this happen multiple times. As we continued waiting, we also noticed DoorDash drivers and other delivery personnel accessing and handling bags in the pickup area. Some appeared to be looking through or touching bags while searching for their orders. This created confusion and made it difficult to tell whether customer orders were being properly secured before pickup. The final concern occurred when the same employee who had been touching her face and hair returned to the food preparation area and began assembling order bags. We observed her pick up a serving of fries and place them into a bag without first cleaning her hands. At that point, we no longer felt comfortable consuming the food. As a result, we left behind our milkshakes, Smashburgers, and fries and only kept our sealed bottled water and bottled beverage. Losing the money was disappointing, but we were more concerned about food safety. Beyond the hygiene concerns, the overall order assembly and pickup process seemed disorganized. There appeared to be little separation between customer service, food preparation, and delivery pickup activities. Additional training, clearer procedures, and better control of the food assembly area could go a long way toward improving both food safety and customer confidence. We chose Smashburger because it smelled amazing from outside, and we were genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, our experience left us unable to enjoy the meal we purchased. read more

Too bad so many people have had a bad experience here. I tried it for first time and service wait time was reasonable and the food was exactly as ordered. The smash burgers had great amount of salt and a great Maillard reaction to them. The smashed tots were piping hot and crispy. I would say if you don't really really like rosemary then you might not like them. They very rosemary forward. Mid day the menu is hard to read though due to the sun hitting the menu, I would suggest one on the wall out of the direct sun. Either way I enjoyed it. read more

The first time we came to this restaurant, it was great. We had thought we found a new place when we come into Destin. Second time, great as well. Third time we brought our daughter, 1 year old grandson and son in law with us to experience this place. The first two times I was able to get tomato and lettuce added to my American burger, but the third time I was refused the option and the worker was completely rude. I ended up taking my family and going elsewhere. It was pouring raining and I had my family wait as we got the car, so my grandson didn't get soaked. Apparently the same worker, along with the others working, had a great laugh at the expense of my one year old grandson and kids having to wait in the pouring rain and then walk to the car. My husband and I recently returned to give it a last chance try, because we like to give our money to veteran owned businesses. The lady at the register was having issues logging on to take orders and had asked the workers in the back for help. The girl in the back tried to refuse to acknowledge her and she eventually had to respond. She did end up coming up front, huffing the entire time and started messing with the keycards and sliding them in each register. We felt so bad for the lady working the register. The cook was completely unprofessional and I'm sure makes it hard for others working there. It has definitely turned me off of going back and is disappointing because it is a decent food spot and veteran owned. Terrible service. Took over 30 min to get my food. After 20 min I got up and asked and they asked what items I was missing. I replied the entire order. She continued to repeat that question 2 more times and I gave the same response and showed my receipt and order number. She said she'll bring it out. 10 more minutes she brought out my wife's burger. Another few minutes my burger (fries missing) and burger cold. Then a few more minutes my son's burger. Worst service ever!!! Had a long line when entered so i figured it's because the food was good. Turns out it was because of slow service. I waited 38 minutes for 3 kids meals and 1 jalapeño smash burger. After 15 minutes of waiting my wife went next door and came back with food before we received ours. Not to mention, the guy who ordered before us waited just as long and the lady who ordered fries right after us didn't get her order of JUST FRIES until we were half way done eating. The fry guy with dread locks was also eating fries while frying them and managed to come to the front to make a shake/smoothie for himself. Flavor was bland and patties were dry. My kids chicken tenders were small and their fries were either overcooked or refried. Ordered 2 "smashburgers". But they werent smashed. There was a burnt ring in the edges and undercooked in the middle as whoever prepared them just let them sit on the grill and tent while frying. Food was great.butrgers were sooo juicy. Loved the spicy burger and fries. However, I would recommend the tots over the fries as my gf got the smash tots (I think that's what they were called). I would probably get the spicy tots next time. I see some reviews with long wait issues. That can impact an experience for sure. Luckily, we were in at a time that we were served quickly. Ohhh. I forgot about the shakes......so good. Made of Häagen-Dazs ice cream. It's a thinner consistency vs some others. I do prefer this over something you can barely get through the straw.... who needs to work to enjoy a shake. It could have been a little thicker though. Still yummy. No clue how they are still in business. They have covered the register screens so you cannot see your order and refuse to provide an itemized receipt. And! They ask for a tip... 20% 22% or 25%. And the food? If you don't tips they don't season the fries, they don't provide the dipping sauces you "pay" for and then they complain and roll their eyes after you ask for the correct order. This establishment is what's wrong with our community. Oh! And the best part?? The fries are Publix crinkle cut because... and I quote the cashier here "the manager was late ordering from the supplier."
