We stumbled upon this place last year when we were visiting Destin. My husband has mentioned it several times since we left. He has declared that we must go back multiple times during this year's trip. We just got in tow and we're going to eat there tonight. The chicken is absolutely amazing! It has such good flavor and wasn't dry at all. The fried plantains and fried rice was also very good but I loved the fried yucca. We got a whole chicken and 2 sides for the two of us and it was way more food than we needed. We were able to have left overs, so it is a great value too! read more

Love the egg, shredded chicken, and scallions. Perfect cook on the rice too. I also added the mild yellow sauce into some of it too. Not sure where the good reviews are coming from but I didn't have a good experience. The cashier and another worker were counting money in the register at 4pm and didn't acknowledge me as I waited to order. We were the only customers in there and that should have been a sign. I ordered the 1/2 chicken and both the dark and white meat were super dry. Luckily their sauces were tasty but I had to drown the chicken in them to make it edible. The yuca fries and plantains were very good but not enough to make up for the dry chicken. If you are a chicken restaurant the chicken has to be good. Also, charging nearly $4 for a fountain drink is robbery. I know lots of places do it but it's just wrong. I can't recommend this place and doubt I will be back. read more

Summary: a "Peruvian" restaurant that doesn't have the sides that make it a Peruvian restaurant..... no yuca, no plantain and no chicha... BUT IT GETS WORSE... if I can give this restaurant a negative, I would.... Took a Togo order around dinner time... my Peruvian wife insisted that we eat at this restaurant since we were here last year and the food was relatively ok....Well, this year... we came in, fans were keeping the place relatively cool... which was ok.. we are in destin after all.... BUT IT GETS WORSE..... we got back to our rental property only to find out that we were 1 whole chicken short.... We called the restaurant, the guy who answered said he can only give us a "discount" for "next time we come back"... This place has ceviche on weekends - enough said. It was delicious. We also had the chicken with plantains and yucca. Yummm!!!!! The yucca was fried perfectly. The chicken was moist and flavorful. It's such a comfort to have natural foods that are not over-salted while traveling. The person helping us order was kind and down to earth. I am not sure why it took a while for my food to come out, but it could be related to the beginning of dinner rush in some way, bc we noticed multiple families coming in about 5 minutes after us. NB: Those families, btw, were also Peruvian. Being viet myself...you know you found quality eats when ppl of the same culture will eat there. The restaurant has really loud chairs (metal on hard flooring makes for very loud sharp sounds that echo). I love El Pollon. It is great food, hearty portions, and inexpensive. I order deliver and eat there regularly. Why the one star review? Each sandwich or burrito comes with a yellow and green sauce that they put in insanely small containers, like the size of a dune. I request extra through delivery never get it. I ask for extra in the restaurant, it's as if I just informed the employees to move mountains for me. Why are they coveting these sauces as if they are caviar in liquid form? I have no idea, but take the one star because I've asked for an extra set of miniature sauce containers maybe 25 times now and 0 of those times has the response been "yes, no problem", there is always an issue or I just outright don't receive it. read more

Called the order in and the food was so fresh that it was still hot when we got it home 15 mins away. Everything was delicious we got the rotisserie chicken with 5 sides and extra side and the Lomo Saltado. The whole family of 5 was able to eat for under $70 which in Destin is miracle. read more
