I come here often to get items in bigger quantities when I will be cooking a larger meal for a group of friends. There is a great selection of fresh produce at reasonable prices. Since the neighborhood has a large Latino population nearby, they always have great items for Mexican dishes. The spices are available in bigger containers than any regular grocery store, so it makes it nice for being able to make your own dry rubs, and season large dishes. read more

I've only stopped in a few times, and that's only when I'm in need of specific items. Today, I dragged the hubby with me, bright and early. Since I have been committed to entering the other half's, bake off contest, I knew exactly where to pick up my items. The prices are great if you are looking for Torani syrups, and believe me they have an abundance of them! You can't beat the price, where Old Market or Cost plus is way over priced. This location is incredible! It's has a organic section right when you first come in. The prices are super reasonable as well. They carry all the good store brands and their own store brand " First Street" I will admit that I'm always a bit leary of trying store brands but when I tried the cheesecake, I was blown away! Cheesecake is one of my specialties to be sure and I was shocked how great it was, really close to mine. It comes in the regular large size and also in the smaller 4 individual size ( so perfect). This store back in the Bay Area doesn't have food like this one, I guess that's the "Extra" part ;) I'm going to shop here more often. One thing that's important is to check the expiration dates on your items, I've never had a issue but it's just smart at these discount stores. Crazy not to shop here, a money saver! read more

I was impressed that I could shop here safely during the virus. They were well organized with social distancing, one door in and one door out, and mandatory mask requirements. It is a little tight in the produce section so hard to stay away from other people there but overall it wasn't bad. I like that they have the coffee we buy and that if we prefer to buy in bulk we can. Another big plus is that the wheels on the carts don't lock up when you leave the store, instead they record the number on your cart for control of them. Many stores have a problem with carts disappearing so I can understand that. The store is well organized and it is easy to get around. Parking is good too. It is rare that they are slammed like other big box stores so it is a better way to shop. read more

I guess I never quite knew what this store was like. I recently ran into this location because it was on the way home from work and is incredibly easy to get in and out of the parking lot. And I needed some bulk food supplies for a party. It was so much easier to get what I needed at very reasonable prices. Nice when you don't want to venture into Costco after working all day. Surprised that they carry a nice selection of fresh veggies and fruit. Dairy and frozen goods also has a great selection. And I just thought they were all about canned goods for restaurants. Since I occasionally volunteer to help feed the homeless, I've been obsessed with finding items that will help feed 100-150 people. Surprisingly, Smart & Final had some things I couldn't find elsewhere or had them priced better than I expected. Need a $5 bag of 1,000 individual packets of salt to go with the 200 hard boiled eggs you just spent a day cooking and for future feeds? Check. Donating 200 small insulated cups for coffee? Check. Looking for 200 sturdy paper plates on sale that won't bend under a mountain of food donated by volunteers? Check. I thought the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Granted, I came around 11 am on a Sunday morning when it was just me and 37 abuelitas in the store, but the cashier was able to flag down somebody who found the individual salt packets for me. read more

Saw that S&F was on my morning walk route and decided to see what they had to offer. As with many things in life, there were both good and otherwise. Prices were more competitive than other local venue, especially the nearby Savemart, with refrigerated cheeses and deli meats much lower than anywhere save for Winco. The barrels of bulk offerings were diverse and evenly priced as well. However, as in many places which offer such amenities, 'free' tasting, i.e., shoving one's hand into the mix, is both discouraged by the store but done with relish by NON-customers. These folks do not buy, but simply sample the wares, snacking as they go along. This is disgusting from a health POV and bad for the store, as it is, in reality, shoplifting. Using items without paying for them. Simple. One person decided that the buffet was to her liking and thus I backed off on several items, including nuts and candies. When I asked the store manager about perhaps changing out some of the containers, he said he was "too busy," and seemed annoyed. Pigs 1, buying customer 0. I will return to this place, as they do have a nice assortment of items throughout the store. However, I will shun any offerings wherein my health may be compromised by those who think the word FREE applies to anything not wrapped and stamped. read more

Good prices and good value, if you know what to get. Some of the house brand items are pretty good. For instance, I recently had to buy meats and bread for a gathering. I got the First Street pastrami and several people who tried it loved the quality and asked about it. The pastrami was pretty good. On the other hand,, I also bought two loaves of French bread. That wasn't a hit at the gathering. Something odd about the texture. A person who does a lot of baking said it was a preservative. WOW! I just got kicked out of smart and final! LOL! How the hell does that happen?! So I was making a purchase of soda and I know there is a limit you can buy per transaction. However the employee that was helping me get the sodas in my cart said I could do 2 separate transactions okay cool. Then the cashier who started to ring me up I believe her name is Mary she makes the comment that people like me are the reason they sell out of everything ummm... The last I checked that's the point of but item from a grocery store!!!! Any way after she made that comment I said oh so my money isn't good here? She shut her mouth and then asked another cashier Adam to ring me up! Before Mary walked away my smart ass said oh you can dish it but you can't take it! Ha! Any way I make my purchase as I'm walking out the store a guy who says he is the manager and his name is Walter approaches me and tells me I'm no longer welcome in the store because I bought to many sodas! All I could do was laugh and say whatever I came for what I wanted. And to show how I paid since I kept being labeled as a foodstamp recipient I posted both my receipts to prove my point don't ever underestimate me. This store fills a need In the area of Plumb Ln and Virgina that previously was primarily served only by the crappy SaveMart that used to be a kinda crappy Albertsons. Some of the items I've gotten here for cheap cheap cheap prices include: Bing cherries --99 cents per pound! 100 count 12 oz paper coffee cups $5, because I like to bring my coffee with me everywhere! I buy the corresponding lids as well, run them through the dishwasher and use them 5 or 6 times before they begin to crack! Lemon bundt cake, large - $5 each Lots of the bakery items are insanely cheap. Some of the frozen food is a good deal as well, but Lakewood's right, you should know your prices before purchasing because some things cost less, and some cost more. It's super clean, not too large, and offers warehouse prices on some quantity items. If you get a Smart and Final Card, you'll receive further discounts. Overall, a very pleasant place to shop with great parking and a friendly staff. I will be back here often and recommend you check it out for the great produce and bakery prices. For us it's a nice local neighborhood store to buy produce and other items to complete a recipe if we don't have time to go out to Costco, or Whole Foods. They are originally known for being a restaurant supply store, but anyone can shop there without a membership. The prices are reasonable and the ambiance is like you're shopping in a warehouse. Odd mix of CostCo semi-industrial sized lots of food and regular individual/family-sized portions. Produce is surprisingly good, found some good deals on good quality stuff here, especially had good luck with mangos in season. Big store, has pretty much all the basics in packaged / canned foods, frozen stuff and booze. Regular prices aren't always the best on everything but usually at least competitive, and their sale prices are sometimes really awesome. The "bulk package" prices can be among the best around too. I stop here regularly just to get gum as they have the best prices on 12-packs that I've ever seen ... 8.99 regular price, this is for the packs that you often see retail for 1.50 to 1.75 individually at other stores. I haven't even seen shady online sources beat this price, even with free shipping thrown in. read more

This is a good place to buy food related items if you are cooking for a group. Think of those aluminum steam pans to roast something in, they cost .50c here vs $1.75 at a larger grocery store. They have low priced, quality paper plates, napkins, drink cups, etc. They also carry cheaply priced pans and many items you would use to make or serve food for a group. I haven't purchased much food here, but they have an amazing selection of apples usually and pretty good prices on bulk cheese, think ricotta if you want to make a bunch lasagna. Don't expect gourmet, but sometimes the situation doesn't call for gourmet. Soda and water is more expensive then Costco, but there is never a long line. read more

It is hit and miss in finding what I want and the prices too can be good and way to high so keep an eye if one cares about price. The store it self feels open and light with clean surfaces and the employees are always friendly and helpful if needed. I don't know why, but this store only attracts people with no bank account, poor time management, and no efficiency. They have several lanes but only two can be open at once. Swear, I just left there and with about 7 people per line they opened up a third one only because they where closing another one that already had seven people. This is the least officiant way to shop. Extra bonus, if you're one of those people who suffer from anxiety in grocery stores, this place will out right kill your mental state.
