A cashier name Tina, short curly bob black hair, and very rude. This is my first time writing a complaint about service because I understand everyone can have bad days, but this is crossing the lines. She rude told me "Okay, hurry up" And I can ignore not helping me putting my 90$ heavy groceries in the bag, but purposely pushing it away and breaking my tomatoes box and damaging my other vegetables. Alright so for everyone wanting to know yes they have so much parking spots and yes they do have handicap parking spots available as well. The front of the building is kept neat and away from garbage on the floor so kuddos to you guys for always cleaning up. As we go inside the aisles are labels so you know where to go and stuff to find your item. The place inside was very neat and organized. Not going to lie I've gone to other smart and finals and they don't look anything like this one so I was excited to walk in here and see how organize it was. Well today I was here because I was grabbing some stuff. So the experience was great while shopping found everything I needed and more. The down fall was the cashier experience I had. Not going to lie if I thought that the service at Walmart in Martinez was bad wait till you read what happen to me with this cashier. So i decided to get two boxes of wine since again I had to grab some stuff for an order I was working on. This cashier made my expertise go from wow to dam you really should not be talking to people that way. So I show her the ID of the customer on my phone like we all do when we have an order for liquor and she then decided to rudely say no I need to see yours so I look at my wife and ask her to give her my ID to what she says if your the one buying the liquor it should be your I then looked at her and said yes it is she just has my id. She then looks at my wife and says where's the ID I need an ID my wife gives her my ID then I ask her do you need to scan this "the customers membership number or something in my phone" to what she replied rudely I'll do that when I'm done give me a minute. So I waited till she was done scanning my items to show her the bar codes she then says why did you tell me you had the bar codes I could have scan them in the beginning. Mind you she just had said to wait till she was done. I then had another order with me she then rudely says well how many orders is it to I respond just two. She started grabbing the items mind you I had 3 items that where bigger quantities so I did not put them In the belt due to them being heavy. So when she grab the water I told her I have 8 of them to she rudely said can you wait till I ask you how many you have before you tell me how many you have. With a voice that sounded like she was annoyed of doing her job. I was just trying to help her before she just input one. This kind of service made me not want to shop here for any of my ordered which messed up with my money. As she started to grab the other items that had a big quantity I stayed quiet and waited to tell her the amount she never asked if I had more of that same item so I waited till she was done to tell her to she yelled and said why didn't I tell her sooner about the multiple quantity in that item. It was like dam if I do dam if I don't. Sorry smart and final but people like this should not be working at your company. Us as customers we come to shop at your store righter for self or for others but still we come to shop here. I was not expecting ti get yelled at or belittled by this cashier with a bad attitude. Now for the moment of truth is this place Dendinger approved!!!! Unfortunately NO!!! This place is not Dendinger approved. Believe when I say I have had my bad shares with customer service experience but this really topped it off. This cashier not only made me never want to come back to this store she also made me lose on money due to me not accepting anymore orders from smart and final due to the fear of not being able to shop in another smart and final. This is where I go when I want bulk grocerys,but don't want to go to Costco. I realized the the produce section is small, but it has the essential items . If you want beautiful looking fruit go the whole foods and pay twice as much. It always seems like they are under staffed,but the cashier ladys are usually friendly,and quick. I know that this is a personal opinion,but the aisles are narrow and hard to get though when trying to pass people. I think that this is a fine neighborhood store with plenty of parking. read more

I came by with my mom to buy a few things. I've been here a few times and out of all the times, I've always felt like I was able to be in and out pretty quick. The store is pretty clean, organized and well stocked, and the prices aren't too bad. The cashier that rung me up, Jasper, was chill and polite. A lot of the food and produce that I saw looked fresh, especially the rotisserie chickens that were in the hot and ready box. Overall a pretty positive experience here, especially on a slow Wednesday evening. I think this might be my favorite Smart and Final to shop at because of how clean and organized it is, plus it's pretty big! read more

Due to COVID-19, I was hoping to find some goodies in stock. In the morning, it was very crowded. I wasn't able to find any paper towel or toilet paper. They did have a few Lysol sprays and hand soap. I purchased these items at the register. The cashier wasn't very nice, but I could careless and just want to get out of here. As I was leaving the register, luck was on my side! I found a pack of Clorox wipes inside an unused cart. I grabbed it right away and stand in line at another register lol. I was craving pork chops for dinner and went to Smart & Final Extra yesterday. I bought 'fresh' pork loin end cut, brought it home and it just wreaked with bad, sour pork chops. I've purchased meat before from this store; but these pork chops had a Fresh sticker and a sell by date of 8/30. It was $6/lb. Naturally, I returned the pork chops to the store and I got a refund. The store manager gave the refund with no issues and said that he could smell it. I had to go another store to get my pork chops. I think Smart & Final can be hit or miss especially when it comes to their produce and meats. I bought the Cheesecake Factory loaf which was great! It's so good. Shouldn't there be other stores that sell it? The store is clean and everything is spaced out well. read more

I have been to many Smart n' Finals in the Bay Area but this store has to have the rudest cashiers, rude to the point of being comical, hands down. Big cashier dude looks miserable as he greets me with a scowl. I thank him as I leave, he replies, "there you go!" as he tosses the receipt. Not a friendly type, I notice. Large woman is ringing me up and notices I have four containers of blueberries instead of two. Suddenly, she lurches and grabs the extra containers. "Two is the limit!" I am a bit surprised because of her aggressiveness, like I had offended her of going over the maximum purchase. The customers before us, got their yogurt covert pretzels all taken cared of too...LOL Tip: Read instructions when getting items by weight. She did not greet me (no hello, bye or thank you) but she was talking the whole time. I don't know if it was to herself but I suspect she was on the way phone. (She was masked and had an earbud in). Hi, considering the high prices that we're paying today or even not considering the high prices that we're paying today, I still expect that there's some good level of customer service. I would appreciate the cashier saying hi to me at the check stand, or telling me the amount that I owe in a voice I can hear, maybe look at me and even say thank you for doing business with us. I often say thank you at the end after a cashier's has helped me. At this store, and I've been there several times, there's one cashier in particular that didn't speak to me except to mumble the amount I owed. It's not the first time. I'd say tho overall it's not a very friendly place to shop. There's lots of Smarts and Finals. I don't have to go to this location. I'd like Smart and Final managers to teach their employees that it's because of our customers that you have a job. That it is common courtesy and should be given to their customers. This grocery store is pretty much like any other grocery store, except they have bulk items as well. Their specials can actually save you a little bit of money. Their produce, dairy, meat, wine, and sundries are well stocked and fresh. Their aisles are wide and clean. I'm devastated right now. My husband is a disabled man and was assaulted by one of the employees here, Rashi, on June 20, 2022 while he was driving the scooter going out of the store to our car. This happened at your Milpitas store #779. We reported this to management, waited more than a month, we're told that we would receive a follow up, and nothing has happened. This is unacceptable. My husband was followed outside by Rashi and harassed by him. Rashi told my clearly disabled husband (who was driving to his handicapped parked car) that he was "faking it," and that he was not allowed to use the electric scooters. Rashi then physically assaulted my husband, holding the scooter back, and screamed at him, "can you not read? This is for handicapped people, you are banned from my store!" My husband literally cannot walk. How is this in any world okay!? Rashi assaulted my husband on June 20, 2022. We reported this incident and Joe, the store manager of store #779, and then Joe even lied and said he was not working that day so as to ignore us. We happened to run into him that day in the store. Nevertheless, we told Joe about this issue and NO action was taken to reprimand the employee, address our concerns, or follow any chain of command. More than a month later in July 26, 2022 when we emailed customer relations regarding this issue, we were horrified to hear Michael (the regional manager) say to us, "I thought this issue has been resolved." We feel unsafe. We are unsafe. This is the second time in less than a year that an employee at this smart and final has assaulted a member of my family. In the recent past, my son was assaulted by an assistance manager. This is horrific. Beyond unacceptable. Someone needs to investigate what is happening and shut down this location or completely change staff and operations. We are following through with criminal proceedings and will use every resource available to our disposal in order to rectify this issue. read more

I suggest only coming here to stock up on party supplies for people that you don't like that much. The packaged food is cheaper per ounce/per serving than regular grocery stores. The sell by date is often very close for a very large serving size, so buy and use ASAP. The fresh food is of disgusting quality. If I am forced to get fresh produce here, I spend a long time picking the least wilted, least squishy specimens. I have found mouldy food here on several occasions, and the store staff couldn't care less. I have told a stocker in the fruit and vegetable aisle that their ENTIRE display of strawberries/oranges/lemons is mouldy and by the time I finish my shop, 20-30 min later, the mouldy produce is still there. The staff frequently have personal conversations in the midst of checking out customers, the staff frequently complain about their shifts, and their jobs. I find it ironic that you're asked to do a satisfaction survey upon completing the checkout process. I've commented to the checkout lady, " Do you really want me to do that? You're selling moldy food over there, and you've just spent the entire time complaining about your job" This store is so depressing. read more

If you actually shop regularly in Milpitas and pay attention to both regular prices and sales, the Smart & Final doesn't generally have better deals than any other store in Milpitas. 95% of the things that I thought were a good value could either be had for a comparable or lower price at another grocery store in Milpitas. More than half the time, the quality and brand-name at Smart & Final was sub-par or worse than at competitor stores in Milpitas. On the plus side, the lines are never longer than one or two people. I'm pretty sure the reason is most people in Milpitas found what I did when they paid attention to the prices. If you do, you don't buy much and you don't come back very often. I do have to laugh when I go there and see someone rushing out with 5-10 of the same "sale" item that I know is available for less at a store nearby (or even worse, the same price at every store). After making numerous trips to Smart & Final in an attempt to find and get the bargains, but leaving mostly empty handed, I think most people just assume the prices at Smart & Final are the best or nearly the best without even checking. It reminds me of the old days at Costco when everyone assumed the same thing, then in later years we actually checked current prices. We never go to Costco any more. Smart & Final seems to be popular with people who want to buy mass quantities of groceries at a discount, like Costco, but don't want to pay the $50 annual membership. I mean, maybe a 50 pound bag of onions is a deal there, but how often do most people need that? read more

Staff very rude!! Due to COVID-19, we were not allowed to use our own personal bags. OK. We won't use our bag. _BUT_ this one employee kept reminding us we cannot use our bag into the store. Kept telling us a few times that we were not allowed to use our own personal bags. He won't leave us alone. Other people were bringing personal bags into the store. Why keep bothering us? I went to this brand new Smart & Final Extra location yesterday morning and was surprised that the line wasn't that long. Must be because I came during mid-morning (10:45 AM). I got inside the store in about ten minutes. Everything inside looked very nice. You could not tell that it used to be a Nob Hill Foods. I just could not pass up the cereal sale on a few of the Kellogg's for $1.49. The very long line for checkout went very quickly. Though things were so insane with the cashier that she almost didn't give me the free reusable bag that they were handing out. But, she quickly realized her error and give me one. I decided right there and then to joke with her. She felt relieved. I, on the other hand, was very pleased as I didn't have to take the basket to my car which was located all the way over by 24 Hour Fitness. I will definitely return to this particular Smart & Final. Four stars for the cashiers - they are very friendly and makes me feel like I am family. The store, however, needs some improvements: 1) often, they're out of the veggies I'm looking for (packaged mushrooms, packed romaine lettuce, etc); 2) would be nice if they carried no salt canned beans so I don't need to go to Safeway for those; 3) the baked goods can be better. They just look old and not appetizing. Again, have to go to Safeway. The sales on fruit are terrific - good quality and prices. The steaks, when on sale, sre awesome. I like that they carry large sized seasonings, but the variety is limited. Grand opening was a mad house! But the store is clean and bright. The isles are big you can fit 2 baskets and still make your way thru. Fully stocked and bright. The refrigerator doors and big and super easy to open. I paid $2.99 for 20eggs and 1gal milk! Cmon! The prices are super affordable. The produce area is fully stocked and brightly lit. Be aware that you need to park right in front of the store if you are using a basket. The line where they lock up is right at the border and then you are stuck. read more

It's nice to have another have another grocery store in the area. The prices are reasonable and the service is OK. The store is in between a regular grocery store and a club store. There are options for fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats in regular size packages. We find it nice to have larger club size packs of sauces and dried items. I don't like how they do a lot of stocking in the day time. The aisles are crowded with the staff stocking the shelves while we try to shop. So the prices on sale items are great. The other stuff is comparable most other stores around the area. read more
