Safeway had everything I needed for the week. The store looked clean and well organized.

Until recently, this would be a 4.5 star review. However, now they've put all of the everyday necessities like toothpaste, shampoo, razors, deodorant, pain relievers - EVERYTHING is in LOCKED CABINETS. ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!! I won't shop here anymore. I even ranted at corporate as they were doing an inspection, "Having all these basic necessities locked up is total BS and I won't shop here anymore." "Bu-Bu-But our staff will help you!" I replied, "Yeah, that's 5 MORE MINUTES I have to WAIT to shop here. I already have to WAIT 5-10 minutes to buy hard liquor. Why don't you just go back to the days BEFORE supermarkets were a thing - Don't even let customers in the store! We hand a list of what we want to the guy at the front and he goes and rounds it all up while we WAIT for 20 minutes. No - I'm done here!" There comes a point where the reality of petty theft has to be accepted on some level. The Safeway at the location below has a corral in the center where you have access to all these items with no wait. It's also cleaner. Having more cashiers especially on a Friday night. It's a big issue with this particular location. Have not had any good experience. Shame on the management. Could learn from others like Grocery Outlet and Walmart. I'm sorry but something must change. Otherwise I will boycott and take my business somewhere else. read more

It's the only supermarket in the whole city. Therefore it's always crowded as I am sure it was hours ago. I prefer to go during the week when there are fewer folks shopping. Wish I could give it five stars but can't. Some cashiers aren't so nice. Also they rush you so they can serve the next customer. I so hate it. Wish they could wait until I am done. It's just like any normal Safeway. The only positive is the Starbucks isn't always busy. I tend to go there because of the other location across from the adult ed. You get your drink within a few minutes of ordering it. Lastly, there are loiters asking for money when it's against the law in Milpitas. Been asked so many times that I have lost count. Haven't given them anything such as a dollar. Sorry but this person is unemployed and have been looking for at least a few years. So won't about to. read more

A group of friends and I decided to find a last minute graduation gift! We decided to get some champagne since it fits the occasion. Took about 5 minutes for a worker to come unlock the alcohol and walk with us to the cashier, to prevent theft of course. A well stocked store that's somewhat clean with hot foods from their open salad bar on the floors. read more

Quality/Quantity - A nice clean organized Safeway. With all the departments, see my pictures. Starbucks, Poppy Bank, Bakery, Deli, Meat, Seafood, Floral, Pharmacy, etc. My daughter was going to get a present for her hairdresser, but decided to just give her a cash tip. Atmosphere - See pictures. Open 7 days a week from 5am to 2am. Huge and clean men's restroom. Plenty of mall parking. Service - N/A, self service Curbside pick up available. Price - N/A on this trip. Came to the store with my grandfather to get meat for a family event. He had Asked a simple question about a specific piece of beef and in response all he got was attitude and disrespect from the manager. My grandfather is an older Asian gentleman. I had noticed that another customer had asked for the same piece of meat my grandfather had asked for and I heard a whole different type of attitude from the meat manager. Keep in mind the other customer was white. Starting to think this manager is a racist. Other past times I've been in the store I always hear him yelling at his employees!! In conclusion I believe he should be terminated. There is never room for racism!! FYI This isn't the only time I've seen this type of behavior!! read more

I went to Safeway today to get some salmon, I really don't know what's going on with the customer service, it took at least 45 minutes for someone to come and assist me. I called the store phone number while I was waiting if someone would pick up the call because they don't have a bell to ring by the meat place. I could hear the voice coming from the intercom, but no one answered. I waited some more, even knocked on the counter and still no answer. Then I had to go to the front and ask to speak to someone so they can come and help. When I finally got the help, I asked the young fellow if they had a bell and he said no, we took it off. Then he put the fish inside a plastic bag! I asked the young lady that came from the front if they didn't put the fish in a tray like before, and she said no. what is the purpose of putting the seasoning on the fish if its going to be all over the bag but not the fish? Absolutely disappointed with the store. On the other side the broccoli looks so bad and ready to put in the garbage but still they had it for $3.99 a pound? So sad to know customer service and the product are going really bad!! On top of it They had long lines with only two cashiers open. I asked to speak to a manager to show the bag where the guy put the fish, but no one was around except for the young lady and the young fellow in the cashier, laughing out. While exiting one of the customers said: it's looking more like Walmart but with Safeway prices. That's really bad! Manager really needs to do something about it before this store becomes another no go place. read more

It's been some time, so an update is needed! Definitely one of your busier Safeways especially the Saturday before Super Bowl. Multiple lanes were open as well as self check out line was long but moved along fine. Parking was a situation but it is a large lot so thank goodness for that. Stock was a little empty in the dairy area. I don't understand why the mascarpone cheese isn't in the cheese section, but it's ok. I ended up looking in my app to see where it could be. Unfortunately, not sure why, I don't know how to change my "home" location. It used to be straight forward but I couldn't figure it out at the end and I just assumed where it was in a different Safeway, would be the same in another Safeway. Thank goodness it was true. Easily checked out at the self check out. Thank goodness I had a coupon from $5 off of groceries otherwise it would've been much higher for just a few items. I was a little shocked. Make sure to have the Safeway app and the rewards because it's definitely worth it. read more

Oh my gosh, I couldn't believe my eyes! There was a white guy who was on his motorbike inside of the store today around 4:00 pm!!! He almost hit me with the wheels... He was looking for something, and even went to self check out. A staff told him "Oh sorry...you can't bring your motorbike here." Wait what? Sorry?? Let him get out of the store immediately! What if the guy start driving it there!? Safeway, I know it's not your fault, but you have an obligation to protect your customers inside. Review for Safeway deli area roast drumsticks and thighs; it is usually I look at it and see everything I want in good cooking, color and seasoning in a pan of meat juice. And while it's not perfect, I'm satisfied every time I get an order. I make an effort to grab an order when they have 5$ 8pc deal on their ad on Fridays With no deal it costs around 4-5$ for a drum and thigh which was still plenty satisfying for a meal. But as a bonus, as I see it; the pieces are placed in a heated pan to keep it bacteria free, I imagine it's hot enough to be slow cooking there even after it comes out of the oven so it can become very tender if they sit around for a while. Had a very bad customer experience sadly at this Safeway where i have been coming for years. I was purchasing a visa gift card yesterday and the transaction wasn't completing freezing the payment system. The guy at counter called their supervisor for help. They shifted us to another system where the same thing happened. Eventually i decided to buy a different gift card and the supervisor helped me buy it and it all worked this time. What was disheartening was the supervisor's sarcastic comment at the end that "man you caused a lot of problems and delays today ". Many years ago this was a good Safeway but ever since Albertsons bought it it has gone way down hill. The bathrooms are always super dirty. But the biggest issue is they typically only have 2 check stands open! I was there the day before Thanksgiving. 2 lanes open! This isn't just a holiday issue every Weekend or any busy time constantly huge long lines! The worst part is they have checkout people working they just either don't call for help or the checkout people just never stop stocking shelves. On November 20th earlier this evening at around 6:00 p.m. I finished shopping I was paying for my food and I decided to get $60 cash back there were some items that were 50% off and I had to get the manager to come make the adjustment. So then after that happened, I totally forgot about the $60 that I had taken out! so I guess it was just hanging out there somewhere.... Anyway Maria who's an associate manager there at the Milpitas Safeway on 555 East calaveras was amazing. She was able to get that money and hold on to it for me. I am no mushroom expert, so I almost bought these brown ones (top) without a second thought. But my sister pointed out it didn't look like the mushrooms behind it (bottom), so I double checked the barcodes and... they were the same mushrooms! Uh-oh... I was going to grab the white ones instead, but I realized there was a hole in the packaging & I was not feeling it anymore knowing these mushrooms were right behind the rapidly aging ones... This is one of the nice Safeway that is well stocked and clean. It's spacious too so they have a good variety. Their produce is fresh and options are endless. Their bakery has good options too. They have a nice Starbucks inside with good seating inside. One can get their caffeine fix before or after shopping. This Safeway is located with other business so parking is shared but the lot is spacious so it's easy to find a spot. read more

There's a cashier named Jerome here and he's genuinely the rudest man I've ever encountered at a grocery store. I'm not saying employees have to have small talk with customers, but at least don't greet people with an immediate attitude upon arrival. It's impossible to avoid him when I can't purchase certain items through self check out, and he is the only cashier working some nights. It's a shame that this is the closest Safeway to me because I'd rather go almost anywhere else just to avoid him. read more

Terrible. Ordered a cake for our nephew's birthday and we got a completely different cake. He specifically wanted Spider-Man, with the light up eyes. Needless to say, that's exactly what he did NOT get. And we still had to pay for it! We contacted Safeway via Twitter and were told that someone from this store will reach out to us. After a couple of follow ups and being told this issue has been escalated and that someone will call "tomorrow", nothing. This Safeway is nice and clean, also very spacious. No problem walking down the isles with another shopping cart coming towards me unlike some of the stores I had experienced. Conveniently located inside the town center plaza. I also like this location because they have an Olyns recycle machine there where I can just recycle my water bottles there by the entrance. Parking is always easy at this location. However, most of the times, promotional items are either unavailable or sold out. I hope they can stock popular items or sale items at a higher par level. read more

The Safeway at Rivermark rarely has it, and the Lucky at Lawrence and El Camino rarely has it too. (Near where I live.) So finally, I just Googled for it, bam, this Safeway had it! Yaay! Moved to Milpitas back in Nov. love everything but the Safeway here. I am in the service industry so I get it . The issue is management hands down. The employees seem reasonable not overly friendly but at least average. This is where I shop for all my grocery needs and I would say in confidence that unless you have all day this is not the place. The far majority of my visits are observed by probably the worst deployment ever. Management let their guests just wait wait wait in line. No sense of urgency or acknowledgment for dealing with efficiency. I understand that there will be times, not every time. This place is a joke and for such an established co in the heart of town I'm shocked this is acceptable. I'm at the point where I will just go to the new location off berryessa out of my way to save time. They are always on point. Get it together, I would be embarrassed to be a lead roll here. Good location, customer service, and product selection but the parking lot is a huge mess. There are shopping carts left everywhere. This is my local grocer and I visit a couple times a week, this is very common. A few months back my car was damage from a shopping cart. I really wish management would do something about this. I ordered a birthday cake one week in advanced. They forgot to write happy birthday as stated on the receipt. Also the icing is dripping onto the cake. I asked to have the happy birthday added and unfortunately it could not be done due to the baker not being present. Also the tag states chocolate cake when I ordered white. Been shopping at the Calaveras Safeway for several years. I have to say I was grossed out enough today that I had to write. Their produce is, by far, not the freshest but the corn on the cob today was gross. I thought something was wrong because the ears were stacked up neatly and hadn't been touched by any customers for a while. I picked one up just to look and I could see why. Worms on the outside of the husks. They looked dried out sticking to the husks. How old were these pieces of crap? I was appalled. i was going to bring it to the attention of the clerk stacking lettuce or whatever, but I felt I was too upset to not give him a horrible time when he may not have had anything to do with it. Safeway, you need to do better, or you will lose another customer. Not happy. I wish I had thought to take a photo, dammit. read more

Yes will definitely recommend this store. Earlier today I was at the pharmacy to pick up my medication. The pharmacy gave me a discount coupon and presented the coupon at the cashier for my Coke Zero box purchase and the cashier Lori was very kind and very helpful and very courteous to help me with the coupon. The customer service at this location is absolutely atrocious. Each time I've gone there and asked for assistance, I get a shrug and an "I don't know." You're a manager, how can you not know or at least try to help me look for the item? Today was so bad too. I was asking about the rib-eye family packs and I asked Norma at the fresh meat case for help. She stated that she can only help me with items in the fresh meat case. So I asked if there is anyone who there who can help me about the ribeye family packs and SHE JUST WALKED AWAY!!!! Safeway and Vons (SoCal locations) are the same stores, but the customer service both stores give are the total opposite of each other. Safeway, DO BETTER. read more
