This review is for the food deli/hot foods noodle soups section. Good selections and employees are always hustling and busting. They are helpful if you speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin. What can go wrong with a casual Chinese street food $11-$13 bowl noodle soup, right? Well, I've definitely gone elsewhere and gotten much better quality and taste for the same item. Ladies are friendly and nice. When I got my order of the roasted duck wonton noodle soup, I was looking forward to a good rest of the day, but this noodle soup ready needs help. Sunnyvale-Cupertino Wolfe Rd. location certainly offers the best noodle bowls. Milpitas location sucks. Beef stews/noodle soups are usually good, but wow, this roasted duck and wonton soup noodle bowl wasn't good enough for me. The duck meat was harder to chew and doesn't easily slide off the bones. Fatty meat. Only got 3-pieces of small duck meat (I'm sad). Wonton noodles were ok, but wontons tasted horrible for my tastebuds. It wasn't made with pork meat along with shrimp, but tasted like imitation shrimp (is there such thing?) or shrimp filled with flour inside wonton wrap. I really dislike the taste. Not authentic and definitely not Cantonese type wontons. Yes, disappointed. This is one of those places where you tell yourself that you've eaten much better noodle soup quality affordable foods than this one. Dim sums are usually much better. Overall, it's convenient, but don't expect authentic taste. Cutting costs is one thing, but if they cannot make the Cantonese wontons right or a noodle soup bowl properly, then it's probably not worth trying, even for a cheap casual meal. I was a bit disappointed, but it could just be one of those days here. Looks good, but doesn't taste great. Room for improvement. Duck doesn't taste good in my bowl today. read more

Very bad experience. They obviously don't respect customers at all. They don't really understand the meaning of customer. Therefore they don't know how to deal with customers and let customers feel horrible. Just felt humiliated during shopping and dining. I bought sesame ball Sunday . It's so hard to eat. But outside it doesn't look like over cooked. It suppose to be soft because it made of sweet rice flours. It's definitely from day before. Nice and clean with fresh food ( meat , vegetables, seafood , noodles and all other foods that you can think of ) . It has a food court inside with many choices . From boba to Hoi Nam chicken, spicy Human noodle soup , Taiwanese snacks , Vietnamese sandwiches and coffee , Ramen in soup and mango sago desserts. We come here once a week to do grocery shopping . IMHO Stopped in after having lunch in the area. This is one of the cleanest, brightest, and most organized Ranch 99s I've ever been in. Perhaps it was the time we visited, but it wasn't very crowded, which was a plus! Produce was very nicely merchandised and looked very fresh. The Chinese veggies which are a staple for us, are usually at a good price. It's been a long time since I've purchased any roast pork or BBQ pork from their deli, and it will still be a long time! So expensive. I'm lucky that my husband can make these at home on occasion! We had $2 deli coupons to redeem at the deli counter and I wasn't about to let them expire, so I chose 3 steamed pork buns. A quick update. We rarely go to this 99 Ranch, but if we're on route or nearby and need to grab something here, we do drop by. Last time I came here was again to specifically find something I can't find at Trader Joe's or Costco or if I need an ingredient and I'm on an errand and this is the only grocery on route, then that's when I drop by here. This market can get a bit busy during lunch times as the shopping area hosts a lot of popular restaurants and thus parking can be quite stressful as well as hard to get. When checking out and you only have a couple items, check to see if the back check out counter is open. Usually it's for cigarettes, liquor or scratch offs, but they usually take people if someone is there and you only have a few items instead of a cart full. They usually have a few cashiers at front but a lot of folks tend to have a lot of items so it may take some time to check out. Besides that, it's one of the older 99 Ranch Markets in the area so although it's fairly sized, it's not super large as the newer ones like the one on Mission Blvd at the interchange of 680 and 880. But then again that one on Mission used to be a Ross Dress For Less so they just utilized the larger space. Overall, it's ok. Not bad especially for your specialty asian super markets. read more

My co-workers and I would spend our lunch hour at the self service take-out a lot cheaper than dining out at the Chinese restaurants. The ladies working here are super nice always greet us when we come by and prices are reflected by the size of the box $22.95 large, $10.85 medium and $6.95 for small portions are very generous usually order fried rice, noodles and chow mein. They even had a special a full plate of fried noodles for $5.20 couldn't passed that up. I liked how they have a variety of Asian goods Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese. Mochi, gyoza, kimichi, Korean ramyeon and ramen are my top choices. They also have a whole display of baked breads and pastries though their prices are a bit more than at Sheng Kee located in the same general location at the Milpitas Square. Cashiers are friendly and every time we check out they would give us a coupon no complaints quite a surprised to see only a few shoppers around on a Friday afternoon. read more

I used to come here more in the past, but not on my way home. This location has a fairly decent size store. Store is clean, light a re bright, isles are wide enough r for two carts to pass by. I usually come for their fresh produce and fish. Their Deli department has decent stuff for when I am on the go in a rush. I noticed they were serving huge size of salt and pepper prawns in the deli section on one of the buffet trays. I had them in the past but not in that size. I was supposed to see it. They have fresh crab on sale for $5.88/lb they are roughly about 2lbs each for the ones I got. But you have to make sure you ask for the ones with two claws. That's a lesson I learned. I asked for two but didn't specify with two claws. So when I came home, I noticed one of the crab had a missing claw! So check your products before you walk out! read more

This might be the biggest one of all the 99 Ranch Markets all over the bay area. There are more kinds of goods, and the fruits and vegetables are more fresh. Overall it's more neat and clean than other 99 Ranch locations. We picked up a knife and we already noticed the price tag is missing on the ones that we picked up from. But among all the knives there, the price range is from $10 to $26. The one that we picked up is obviously not the most expensive one based on the knives' use. While when the cashier checked it, he told us the knife is $55. This is very ridiculous because they just don't have any knives over $26. Even the cashier knew it should not be true but he still told us so. We had to gave it up. read more

It's a 99 Ranch Market but what differs is it has claw machines by the front entrance. I'd like to remind shoppers to check your receipt before leaving the shop. They charged me twice for an item and of course I didn't see it until 2 days later. My favorite spot to hit on my way home from visiting friends/family in the Bay Area. This is a great market to hunt for fresh produce, fresh meat, fresh seafood, and hard to find Asian sauces and condiments. Not a fan of their prices as they're typically higher than other grocery stores although to be fair the other grocery stores are smaller and doesn't have the variety that 99 has to offer. They have a hot food and BBQ deli section: roast pork, BBQ pork, steamed chicken, roast chicken, and I believe they have duck but I've never ordered it but for the rest of the meat selections.. delicious. For the hot foods section they have an array of options: fried rice, chow mein, chow fun, tofu/eggplant (looks like it is braised), and many other (although beware that they're all oily). They have a small selection of dim sum, too.. shiu mai, har gow, and steamed baos. I saw a red bean and rice pie earlier. I was tempted to buy it for the Lunar pray but I didn't want to buy stuff I don't eat. For the pray last Friday I threw away a small banh chung... my kids and I do not eat it. I've been here twice, for the same purpose.. last minute items for the pray. I also bought gladiolus to give to my sitter. It's $12.99 a bunch. I also bought banh pho for the chow fun I will be making, beef flank, beef tripe, beef tendon, and bo kho gia vi (seasoning) to make bo kho (beef stew) since I have so much freedom to cook and/or buy whatever I need or want. So blessed and many things to be grateful for. In my 37 years of life.. this Tet will be my first one that I'll be giving my parents and my grandma a red envelope (also bought a pack of red envelopes here earlier). Been here a few times and each time there isn't anything to gloat, rave, or complain about. This 99 Ranch Market has its own bakery and hot deli in-house. Talk about added convenience right?? This particular Asian supermarket is among one of the cleaner locations and is normally pretty organized. Staff is pretty unhelpful & short [non friendly] so I'd prefer to roam around on my own trying to locate my needs. Always the best!! Good groceries, fresh and good prices. Huge variety of all the items and ingredients you need for most Chinese dishes. I like the variety of bean curds and tofus for hotpot, and the meat section too. I hope they keep this promotion where you get 10% of your total in bakery vouchers to spend. I always spend them on tea eggs, egg tarts, and the swirl sponge cakes and it's like a nice little bonus prize. The staff is always nice and cordial too. Stopped in to pick up some items to make Spring Rolls with the girls. This location is not as organized as other Ranch 99 Markets. The associates are not as friendly either which is probably not as uncommon amongst larger grocery store retailer chains. The manager on duty was especially unpleasant when I asked her for a few items from the Customer Service counter. They don't carry basic Vietnamese fresh herbs for Spring Rolls but they have a huge variety of spinach and bok choy veggies. If you ask them to fry a fish for you, just know that it will come out more oily than usual. This Ranch market gets busy later in the day, but I never wait long in their cashier lines and always plan to arrive earlier in the day. For an Asian market, this one (& Ranch in general) is cleaner than some of the other local Asian markets. You can also expect the same (non) service half of the time you come here, but that's not a factor in shopping here because we leave with a cart full of items at great prices. **Note**Every vendor has signs posted that you should protect your valuables and NOT leave them in your car. There are also signs posted in the parking lot, so don't do it! Our shopping experience: We shopped here today specifically to buy fresh fish and to pick up veggies and fruit rather than at the grocery stores where prices are always higher. Summer fruit is hit or miss and today the fresh peaches lacked flavor. The fish selection was good and we settled on the popular branzino, which was $7.99/lb and usually on sale at the grocery store can start at $9.99/lb. The fish mongers will also descale and clean the fish for you at no additional charge. Please note, though, that any fish you purchase at ANY store will charge you the weighted price BEFORE they clean and cut the fish. We normally buy salmon and fresh shrimp here, too, which is competitively priced. They offer samples while you shop so it's not hard to purchase some of the samples like the vanilla soy we tried today, which was also on sale. It's also not hard to resist the bakery, prepared food and Chinese barbecue: chicken, duck, pork, and soup or congee. TIP*:You receive $1 coupons for every $10 you spend so immediately go to the deli/bakery and spend them because they expire. You'd be amazed how much these coupons can buy. Very unhappy today with the fish monger.. we wanted crab so he weighed out some Dungeness crab. While weighing the crab he left it on the scale to get another crab when the crab fell off and hit the ground. The fish monger then picked up the crab and seemed to lean back toward the tank.. perhaps to indicate that he was going to put it on the side and get another crab.. There is a short Chinese guy who cut and prep roasted duck, he seems to be hiding something when he start chopping duck. Because they shielded with papers where people can't see when they chop meats. When I tried to look what he was doing he said: No head, and he meant don't look over what I am doing. He then put my duck away and just walked away rudely. Then he started talking in Chinese with his coworkers and they laughed at me. All spoke very little English and the short guy seems to be unhappy with his jobs. Be careful when you buy live crab from this place and asked them to steam it, they will give you dead crab. From now on I will ask to inspect the crabs before they weigh them to make sure the crab I get is still alive. Do not trust this business. I wonder if they set aside dead crabs for unsuspecting customers as the guy took the crabs from behind the tank. I went up to the hot deli counter requested for 1 lb roasted pork with less fat, the short man ( not the main butcher) from the back walked up & helped me, without cleaning his hands or wearing any gloves grabbing the roasted pork and scolded at me.....you heard it right... scolded at me saying pork have fat want it or no want it and walked away. Then the main butcher came over, chopped me bunched of ribs instead. Cold/ fatty/ salty roasted pork, So disappointed !! Omg, the upgraded store has a wider selection, I haven't came back for a long while time, I was surprised they have a lot of Taiwanese local brands pine apple cakes and traditional cookies desserts. Just had a terrible experience buying crabs from this location. I asked guy at counter for big ones, was presented with some small ones instead. Then i asked him to pick again, he came back with big ones, then took them behind the tanks, came out and put them in the bag. Then I realized when he handed them to me that they were the same small ones with broken claws. I completely flipped out and started yelling at the guy for wasting my time. He immediately returned with the big ones. After that I went to the front and found the store manager to complain and was patronized with "we don't do that, it's only the workers fault". Exceptionally rude staff. Cashier rang me out last week. I said hello she looked at me and didn't reply. This week, the cashier refused to bag my items. She pushed all of my purchases to the side and threw the bag I purchased on top. I started packing them and looking around to other cashiers. Mine finally helped with the last two items. I travel for work. Ive been to this market several times. But you know today was my last time . Even the shoppers, clawing all over me when I was at the hot food checkout in back of the store (theres a separate pay area for in-store hot food). If you say thank you or pardon me, people don't reply. Hot food area is very unsanitary. Utensils shoved into the food. All self- serve. I had change and the hot food cashier put the change on the counter instead of handing it to me. I gave it to you respectfully why TF would you slam it on the counter for me to pick up. I'll just say it: Demoralizing treatment from people who haven't *learned to assimilate. Disgusting is the word that comes to mind. read more
