When you need a bulk of items and you don't feel like the headache of the parking crunch, the long checkout lines, or the pathetic food samplers at Costco, this is the place. S&F has been around for decades helping small businesses with their supplies. I have been going there for 20 years (this location is only about 15 years old) buying things at discount prices. Their meat and product selections are good, that have great prices on soda and beer. Their wine selection is decent. If you need a bulk pack of TP and some bottle water, I recommend coming here and quickly getting what you need. I USE to enjoy a place without membership where u can buy in bulk for cheap, until the previous weekend. I bought a 12 pack of one my favorite drinks which was the Fuze: Green Tea. It was the ONLY pack left, and I thought they stopped selling them. It was quite dusty but figured it's not that old. The very next day, I come back for a full refund, and you know why? The expiration on the packet read "Exp: 5-10-10" "HOLY CRAP MAN!!" Now look at the date of this review, and again I said this happened last week when I bought it. This is your typical smart and final. The store was very clean, well stocked and the aisles were free of clutter. The organization is odd as you would not expect energy drinks to be stored with the wine and fine spirits. Prices are good and I like that you no longer need a "loyalty card" to get the discounts. The parking lot is horrendous! It's another one of Irvine's well planned master communities with great shopping centers with terrible parking. A-OK is how I currently feel about this Smart & Final. There was sign out front that said they were doing some new construction on the building or inside? Either way, this place needs an update STAT, or some better lighting inside. + Torani syrups - Lackluster selection of flavors. The S&F in Lake Forest has a million different flavors, so I was bummed that this one only had the most popular flavors. One of the nicer Smart & Final's but then again this is Irvine. My go-to spot when buying items for work. Staff are a bit more competent than some of the other Smart & Final's I've called when I was looking for sauerkraut, which the staff here knew what I was talking about while another store was completely clueless. Staff are helpful and nice to see they train and employee staff with disabilities. Parking can be a bit of challenge though since it's shared with a bunch of business and this on a weekday before the lunch rush. read more

The closest type of store I could compare this to would be Seiwa, since it has some restaurant items like scoops for French fries. The shelves are nice and tall and everything is usually displayed in individual or bulk packaging, but usually not both for the same product unlike Seiwa. Some interesting things that one can buy here are takeout boxes, the stuff you put in a cotton candy machine to make cotton candy, and shaved ice syrup. I just bought something tiny. Last month I walked into this store for the first time. I was attending a birthday lunch in the same plaza. I was absolutely shocked at how beautiful, clean, and organized the produce section was! The fruits and vegetables were the best quality out of all the grocery stores I have ever been to. And the floor was sparkling clean. I was very impressed. Just spent $300 on supplies for my classroom. I teach cooking, and ASB so as you can imagine I buy a lot of bulk. Big heavy bags of flour & sugar as well as a wide variety of stuff for student activities. I had two carts my husband and I were dealing with that I had to pay for with two separate accounts because the stuff was for two separate classes. Jessica was our checker and she could not have made me feel less valued as a customer. She was annoyed by the two cart and the two payment method we needed. She scolded us for pulling the giant bags of sugar and flour out of the cart. She was irritated that I had a bottle of molasses that was broken(not my doing, it was oozing molasses out the bottom). We had our own reusable bags which were also apparently a HUGE inconvenience to her. All in all I am a little bummed I spent so much money in this store, but I needed all the supplies. read more

It's getting interesting how the customer service here is lacking. Went in just to get a couple of items and while the stockers are very helpful the checker, Victor is very stoic and well rude. He asked me a question and I responded but he decided to do what he wanted to do anyways. Well, don't ask me a question if you are going to do what you want anyways. Even if I'm just buying milk you can at least say thank you when you hand me the receipt. But he did turn his back on me when he was talking to the checker behind him while he was scanning my milk. Nice added touch, don't you think? Victor needs some customer service training in my opinion. Last I checked if you are rude to your customers, your customers won't come back, and you won't have customers to be rude to when you don't have hours to work. read more

I'm a fan for 2 words (initially): Tropical Skittles. It's also the best place to go when you have 15-20 minutes to kill while your Meat Lovers pizza is cooking. I did this today and found a box of Tropical Skittles. Oh how my teeth ached when I saw that blue box sitting on the shelf. The other thing I got were these frozen sorbet things that come in the actual fruit's "shell" (e.g., coconut flavor comes in the coconut and pineapple comes in the... I don't know what you call it, but you get my drift, right?). My sister had given me a few that she bought from Costco. But being the cheapie that I am, I don't have a Costco card. So, Smart & Final will do. I'll return when my Skittles stash depletes. :D read more

first time at this particular location and its okay. the prices aren't that great of a sale. honestly, if you look over your local grocers and smart & finals circulars, the prices are similar and sometimes, the local grocery stores have better prices. bananas there are the best in price i've seen @ .49 cents/lb. i don't have the need to buy a gallon of tomatoes or ketchup or anything else, so if you are cooking for a mass, then this is definitely where you want to be. read more

This Is the Smart and Final that I shop at. I don't go there often but when I do, that means they have some good deals. This time it was ground beef for $1.99 a pound. That's a great price! I bought some and also some sausage patties. The sausage patties make a great breakfast sandwich. All in all, our trip was a good one. Got a few deals out of our trip. read more

I've been going to S/F since they opened. In general I like going there as it's a good supplement to Trader Joe's products. But something happened this week that really bothered me. I was in the check out lane and there was an Asian lady in front of me. She had a large amount of corn on the cobb. The S/F check out clerk asked her why she had so much corn and whether she had a restaurant. The lady didn't respond while she was getting into her purse. The clerk looked at me with a weird look on her face. I could tell the customer didn't speak much English and wasn't comfortable getting into a conversation. The clerk said. "Don't you understand English?" She responded "Only a little." Then the clerk said "you live in America and don't understand English?" The customer just looked down and gathered her corn into her cart. I thought it was such a rude thing to say. First of all, it's none of her business what language she speaks. Why put her on the spot when she could tell she wasn't comfortable speaking English. And as far as I know, it's not a requirement to speak English to shop in S/F!! I guess I should have asked the clerk if she really thinks her bejeweled fingernails look classy. read more
