Smart and Final is where I love to stop by for bulk items and save a buck or two; it's my alternative to Costco runs. They also carry cool brands of sauces and condiments. Came here many many months ago and my experience was not great at all. I came back this morning right at opening and Jose was the best person I could have possibly seen. He was so friendly and very helpful in the meat selection. He was so quick to help and make suggestions accordingly. He was very friendly and new how to be respectful and not pushy at all. Sometimes you encounter places and they already want to push you to buy other things that you do not need. He made great suggestions of how to cook different meats and I was very thankful for that as well. The store is very well kept. It's very clean and organized and check out was very quick. During the holidays time is very important and I was able to get in and out within 15 minutes. The shopping cart were very organized and parking was ample . I definitely think I will be coming back when I'm back in town. read more

I have been a regular customer at Smart & Final on Verdugo in Glendale for many years, and unfortunately the ongoing issues at this store continue to get worse instead of better. One of the biggest problems is the front cashier area. During sunny afternoons, the sun hits directly into the faces of both the cashiers and customers standing in line. This has been happening for years. After all the remodeling and upgrades done to the store, you would think management would have addressed something this basic. It creates an extremely uncomfortable environment not only for employees who are forced to stand there for hours, but also for customers trying to check out. The fact that this still has not been fixed shows a serious lack of care and attention from management. Another major concern is the behavior of store management. I am a regular customer, and I have personally witnessed the female manager with red hair speak to employees in a degrading and disrespectful manner in front of customers. Correcting employees publicly, speaking down to them, and treating them like children is completely unprofessional. A manager should know how to pull employees aside privately and communicate respectfully. Leadership is supposed to create a positive environment, not humiliate workers in front of the public. The store is also constantly understaffed at night. Many times there is only one cashier handling closing hours, which creates long lines and unnecessary wait times for customers. This is not normal compared to other major stores like Target or Ralphs, where they properly staff the front end during busy evening hours. Customers should not have to wait excessive amounts of time because management refuses to properly schedule employees. Another ongoing issue is how long it takes for management to respond when employees request assistance. Employees often have to repeatedly call for help while management takes their time responding, leaving both workers and customers frustrated. All of these issues point back to poor store management and lack of operational care. I have noticed over the years that the store is no longer as busy as it once was, and honestly that is not surprising considering the decline in customer experience. Many people in the area, including neighbors I have spoken with, have expressed similar frustrations. I truly hope corporate addresses these concerns because this location has potential, but the current management approach is hurting both employees and customers. read more

Time for a review update! Just wanted to give props to the Smart & Final Extra Glendale team - what an amazing remodel job you guys did! I find the new setup to be very accessible and less clustered! The Aisles pretty much remained the same but the front and produce section sure did got a major update! I love it! Early morning shop, opened second cashier after 6 people in line. Store recently remodeled, looks nice, should have thought more about the floor finish. I had 4 people behind me on line, so I didn't stop to check prices on my receipt, well, once in the car I found I wasn't given the sale price on one sale item. I only bought said item because it was marked on the shelf as on sale. This may seem petty, but if this is done regularly on a variety of items Smart and Final is reaping in some good cash. This has happened before. It's usually too little to go back inside to get a refund when there is a line. It's funny, I've never been charged too little for an item at this and other locations, I wonder why? read more

I come to Smart & Final to buy flour mostly. They carry the organic Bobs Red Mill flour for a great price. I bake sourdough breads and lot of cookies every week. I also love getting disposable plates, cups and utensils from here. They have a variety of to go boxes, containers to store food in and much more. Lots of fresh produce, bakery items and more. Produce prices are a bit higher than other stores in my opinion. I only get what's on sale from the produce department. read more

I remember a time when my friends and I would come to this grocery store (Safeway many moons ago) during our lunch break. We loved coming here because at that time they had all these cool bins full of yummy stuff to eat, but no it's a Smart & Final Extra! now. Many moons ago I thought it looked a lot nicer then compared to now. I prefer to shop at grocery stores that catch my eye due to how it's set up inside. But how about the produce and other items you may be wondering? Well, first of all, I HATE very yellow bananas so I would NEVER buy their bananas. No wonder the price was lower than what I usually pay at Ralphs or Vons. The veggies looked good and I guess the price was okay because my mom didn't make any complaints. How about the dry goods? I recently visited this location for a sale item that was $11.99 if you buy 2 items, however the store only had 1 item left. The manager Alex refused to give me the item at the sales price, instead he stated " You would have to pay regular price $14.99 for this one item) It's not the customers fault that the stores inventory is not up to standards. It would be different if the store was sold out of this sales item, but this wasn't the case. It was only one left and Mgr. Alex refused to satisfy the customer. Terrible. Literally everything I needed they had awful selection. From produce to pasta type to dairy, you name it. No baskets when you walk in which I can't stand... someone just bring them to the front, they're always stacked at the registers. So grabbed a cart and Ofcourse had the bunk wheel that jiggled and dragged the whole time. Not enough cashiers. Just overall very sucky visit. read more

Everytime I try to use my app in Smart and Final it tells me the password is wrong. I have reset it, used it, asked my phone to save it and then the next time I have the same problem. I never have problems with the Ralphs or Vons app so I guess I will just shop there from now on. read more

Its been almost a year since my last review on this location until today that again i had to leave another negative feedback! I received a Very rude customer service from cashier Nayeli! I was at the register and I brought 2 bags with me thinking would be enough for my purchase so I said no to her question asking if I need bags! Well, it came out to be not enough so I asked her if I can have bags plz, and she got Very irritated and rudely responded that she had already asked me if I need bags and I told her No! I am just shocked where smart and final brings these cashiers from! Aren't you providing any customer service training?! Well if just providing a bag is that of a big deal for your cashier then I cant imagine how she feels doing the rest of the transactions! Just a note to the store: You should really know that customers like us help stores like you to remain open specially in this covid situation while many other businesses are struggling. Finally!! After living in the area for over 10 years, I received great customer service!! From Aleisha and the other blonde lady with an accent. I have a love hate relationship with Smart & Final stores in general.. love the convenience because it's close by, but hate, loathe, the long lines at times, and the aloofness of many of the employees. I can't even tell you how many times the cashier was less than pleasant. Listen, I've worked retail and it sucks, I'll be the first to tell you that, but a "hi" or "good morning" really won't kill you. I don't like small talk either but I think it's just common courtesy to greet someone, anyone, let alone a customer in your checkout line. Anyway, back to my experience today. I had to pick up dry ice for an event we are having tomorrow. Both Aleisha and the other lady (apologies for not catching your name!) were very nice and helpful. It was my first time purchasing dry ice and they gave me great advice and didn't act like I was bothering them. They are next to my house so I use them very often. Just the other day I when to do a propane exchange. It's when you give your empty tank and get one that's full. The person helping me lost the keys to do so so the manger ended up involving few people to get the lock cut off and get me what I wanted. Though today or any day soon is not the ideal time to darken the doors of the stores or anyplace that sells water, paper goods, liquor, etc., etc. I found myself here at Smart and Final EXTRA! (their italics not mine). yes, this after i had checked Vons and tried to get into Costco in Los Feliz...to no avail as the lines to GET IN were very long and it might have taken hours just to enter. I also had a prescription to pick up and thought while i made my way to the front of the line that this might have allowed me immediate access to the Pharmacy but the look on the people in line made me re-think that. I mean: do i really want to be known as the dude who gets shot trying to jump in line ahead of about 1000 people? No. Think not. All i wanted was some extra water, napkins, paper towels and i made a good attempt at Vons (totally out of all 3 plus no t paper as well), Costco (see above) and finally thought that Smart and Final would be able to help. Well i did find Sparking water and Napkins (fancy large ones i never thought would retail out at 7.95 ??? Maybe i'll use them when Megan and Harry come for dinner) and a case of IPA so it was not a total loss. On top of all this it has been raining since last night and so everyone was at different levels of wetness. Not the best of situations to find yourself shopping or much of anything except sitting on your favorite chair with a good glass of Pinot from Oregon, wool blanket pulled up to your neck and your dog sleeping at your feet...keeping them warm watching MSNBC or Netflix. But alas: when you need to shop, you need to shop. The shopping experience here was frantic to say the least with old women fighting for the last gallon jug of distilled water. all nationality of grand mamas can get dirty when the situation calls for it, heh?. I hate to say it but it was not not entertaining. I was just happy that i found 2 things out of my shopping needs. I was also amazed at what people will buy when they think they will have to stay home with the kids and wives/husbands for a long period of time. The couple in front of me in the check out line bought and i kid you not: 30 cans of frozen OJ (with pulp), 12 frozen Red Baron Pepp Pizzas, 12 cans of Tomato Sauce, 28 cans of Peas, 4 huge bags of Potato chips, BBQ flavor. Me? If i were going to be impaneled for days, months, weeks, years with my family i would need alcohol. Lots of it. They actually have a good selection of fresh produce but most of those shelves were intact as this was not a fresh produce day or crowd but a get ready for the Zombie invasion day and that calls for maximum amounts of carbs and trans fats. They also have good pricing on their fresh chicken but not many takers. The staff here were pleasant despite the craziness of the situation. Kudos to them. The store itself was in ok shape with all manner of flavored, sugared and sparkling but no still water. But what did i expect? Worse, i guess. I have been to this store maybe a dozen times in 10 years but i will be back based on the management team who kept things flowing and shelves stocked as best as they could. Cheers! read more

You know what I love about Smart & Final? Is that they have mostly everything I need!!! Why go to Costco when you have Smart & Final for all your food needs? Imagine if they got a food court too? The produce is always old and wilted. The meat selection is okay if you're looking to stock up your freezer. The lines are always ridiculously long, managers won't open additional lines when it's busy. If you're looking for better quality food at (essentially) the same price, just go to the Ralph's down the street. read more

Bad Customer Service, waited in line for 30 mins. Had 2 people cut in line in the process. One was an employee who wanted to just jump in line & tell me he only had two items which I did too. If my wife tells me I need to go food shopping? I run!! I'm the food shopper in my household most times! Yes I love food shopping.. Markets Costco and smart n final ... But I like to go food shopping alone Because i walk isle by isle just to see what's new or good. My favorite isle is the candy and pastries. Also the frozen food section looking for ice cream and the meat section of course! But above all I need to have a list in my hand what I was asked to buy or else I got a problem and that did happen before. I like this store Because it is big and clean. The parking lot is huge and always easy to find a spot. The lines are bad here long and sometimes slow but other then that it works for me. Now they got the produce section bigger as well. Case of Sugar-Free Rockstar after tax $30.30 that's a savings of $18.00 who wouldn't love that right??? With a large parking lot with plenty of spaces one doesn't have to worry about your car being pound like a piece of meat by someone else's door... When entering the store you will see very clean and well inventoried isles. The hard liquor is priced pretty cheap and is located up front for easy access to the register. I have always been greeted with a smile by the Cashiers & treated with the upmost respect never rushed... This is my favorite Smart & Final because it is never packed and lines move fast.
