Is it just me or did this location's cupcakes lose icing? The first time I went here the frosting was piled up high and went down inside the cupcake!!! Super yummy!!! So imagine my surprise when I went today and got my faves only to discover that there was such little icing and nothing inside! I first heard of Smallcakes when a sister-shop was located just up the street from us in Jacksonville, FL. I fell in love with it then, and it continues through today with Smallcakes MD. Their cupcakes are consistently good, with varying seasonal flavors. We sampled several last week for a birthday (lemon, peanut-butter, chocolate with pink frosting, and red velvet). Smallcakes never disappoints. If you are looking for a moist and delicious treat this is the place to go. I just enjoyed one of their specialty cupcakes called the sweet bee (something like that), I only bought one and had I not already made it to 50E, I would have turned around to go get more. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired at Smallcakes. Came in here on a slow Tuesday afternoon, not a single customer in the store, and was barely acknowledged. The man behind the counter was on his phone and couldn't be bothered to ask how we were doing, if we needed any help or offer a suggestion. If it weren't for the fact that my fiancé was really jonesing for a cupcake, I would've walked out. That bad. As for the cupcakes themselves, they looked okay but the selection was picked over. Each of the different flavors were displayed on a cake stand and some stands were full while others were empty or nearly empty. I understand that items get sold throughout the day, but a simple re-arranging of the cupcakes to make the case look full and not picked over, would've made the display look a lot more appetizing. There were also display items (not for sale) at the register that looked like they hadn't been changed in weeks. Why not just have pictures of those items as opposed to gross, stale old ones? My fiancé ended up liking his cupcake and said he'd return. I, however, won't. Smallcakes has the potential to be great. They have a great location that's nicely decorated, a catchy name and a good product (I did taste the cupcake and like it, too). They just need to work on a few things. Smallcakes 2641 Riva Rd f, Annapolis, MD 21401 It's with regret I rate this business with a low star rating b/c the cupcakes, for the most part, tend to be delicious. But unfortunately, the customer service is far from stellar - and I work in customer Service as a Business Development Manager. In the past I tried overlooking their lack of good customer service, but my last visit was the end. My husband and I frequent Smallcakes about once a week (I jokingly hate to admit) and generally purchase a cupcake each. Our last visit we decided to venture out and try some of the specialty desserts - he ordered the cupcake smash and I ordered the ice cream cookie. In the process of making the cookie from scratch, I was informed that the ice cream cookie was usually made from smaller cookies, however I would be receiving a larger cookie since the smaller cookies were out for the day. I responded that I understood not to expect such a large cookie next time and thanked her for her generosity- given she could have just said the ice cream sandwiches were out for the day. In the process of making my ice cream sandwich, the 11 y/o daughter of the owner questioned the adult making my ice cream sandwich and then proceeded into the back of the store. After my sandwich was made, the owner emerged from the back with her daughter and started to question her employee who was servicing me (whom I believe is her sister) on why she made such a large ice cream sandwich when pre-made ones were in the back. She then took her in the back of the store at that moment to show her, as we waited to pay for our dessert. Then all 3 (owner, employee, and 11y/o) come back out front and explain to me that the ice cream cookie was made incorrectly and is usually not that large in size. I interjected to explain that it was explained to me that In the future I should not expect the same item. All seemed clear. After which, they had the 11 y/o ring up our order and to my surprise she charged me for 2 ice cream sandwiches. When I asked why I was charged for two she responded "it's larger than the usual sandwich". I explained that I would not be paying for 2 sandwiches since it was not my issue an upgrade was offered to me. The young girl told me she had already charged me, so I explained I wanted a refund and the 11y/o responded, "but I already charged you." I repeated that I'd like a refund. The young girl went to get her mother again and The owner came from the back to happily refund my money. Why the issue? There's plenty I hope this business takes away in respect to customer service (especially as a new business): ensure all employees are trained on the policy and procedure of the business to avoid conflict, the owner should have waited until after my husband and I left to handle her quality assurance and not have done it in front of us, ensure employees know how to hand the request for refunding money. And most of all, recognizing when it's worth it to make concessions for frequent customers. The owner would have rather refunded my full amount and have to throw away the dessert than allow me to pay the original cost of the item that I actually ordered, let me enjoy my dessert, and return again as a happy appreciated customer. I was very disappointed in the owner's customer service and also that it seems her daughter has not been properly trained in customer service (but then again she is quite young); HOWEVER, the sister who originally assisted us was pleasant, made great recommendations (during previous visits) and initially handled the situation the best she could to meet customer demand and needs read more

Nice, clean and pleasantly decorated store. Cupcakes are delicious, artistically decorated, and have a light fluffy butter cream frosting. The White Russian cupcakes make your tastebuds sooo happy. Their ice cream is fresh made everyday and it is creamy delicious. The key lime was as flavorful as eating a pie of key lime pie from the Conk Republic in the keys. I tried Smallcakes for the first time today after wanting to visit for a while. I thought prices were a little high for cupcakes, $3.75 each. Ice cream was $3.50 for a single but they did give you a lot. They have a Tuesday deal for but one/get one half off. Ice cream was very good, we had cotton candy, banana cream pie and blueberry cheesecake. The interior was a let down, it could be really cute and has potential but it's pretty basic and kind of just thrown together. I think atmosphere has a big impact so a cuter with style could really benefit this place. read more

I just visited for the first time and bought 2 cupcakes(red velvet and the wedding cake) and the 24 karot icecream. Everything was delicious. The icecream tasted just like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and my boyfriend said the red velvet was really good. The cupcakes were so moist and fluffy and pretty large size, although I was disappointed in the wedding cake cupcake. It was supposed to be an almond cake with almond flavored icing and I didn't taste a speck of almond in it at all. It tasted like yellow cake with plain buttercream frosting. I'm assuming they may have used the wrong items when making that batch? With that said I still give them 5 stars because the moistness and fluffiness saved the cupcake and I had the sweetest girl help me when I went in. Very sweet and professional. I will definitely be going back to try many more flavors and give the wedding cake flavor another try. Such a cute place and so many interesting flavors to try. read more

Not too much to say. So far we visited twice and both times we loved the cupcakes. On the first visit we had the chocolate cupcake and the most recent visit we had the Boston cream cupcake.
