Wowza! This was a hit! I went in to grab a few for the kiddo and she said it was delicious! We got the peanut butter, lemon, strawberry and cookies and cream. She had the cookies and cream and said it's so good! I had a bite and most admit it was incredibly moist and the buttercream icing with the marshmallow filling was not overly sweet. Wedding Cake Disaster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been a special events planner/coordinator for over 22 years. I have worked with vendors of small mom and pop businesses to high end vendors. This is the first and last time I will use this business. The couple saved for 2 years to make this event happen for themselves. They chose Destin and its vendors over numerous other options. They ordered the wedding cake from Smallcakes and because it was close to the venue, chose to pick it up. The groom personally went to pick up the cake. He wanted to make sure it would be on time for his wife to be. He arrived and the baker told him the cake would be secured and how to care for it during transport. He followed the directions exactly and carefully drove to the venue. With the help of his friends, they unloaded the cake and delivered it to the ballroom. He opened the box and watched it fall apart. I was attending to other details and quickly ran over to help. (see attached photos) I requested the head chef of the venue to examine the mess and give me his professional opinion. Immediately he identified the issue that caused the cake to self destruct. The person that put it together used hollow straws to hold up too much weight on the layers. He advised this is not the correct method and should have been assembeled with wooden dowles for stability. I was swamped with other things that needed my attention and asked the chef to call the bakery on my behalf to see how they could make this right. He made contact with the Owner/Baker and was berated with a less than professional attitude. She pushed him to his professional limits and he was forced to terminate the conversation. She finally called me back and started with the same condesending attitude she gave the chef. I immediately knew why he treminated the conversation. I did my best to calm her and keep her on track to find a solution to this problem. I asked her if she could fix it, she said no, not enough time. I asked her for a refund so I can run to the grocery store and buy some cakes and make something happen. She only offered a small discount that would not have made a dent into helping the situation. I have never been subjected to an owner or business operator that refused to make things right. When I make a mistake, I fix it. read more

No one would answer the phone so drove to the bakery during business hours and door was locked. Knocked and lady came to the door saying they weren't taking orders and were sold out. This place seems to be quite renowned with various awards through Food Network and voted the best in the area, and I can see why. These cupcakes are the best! I haven't had such delicious cupcakes since those at The Cupcake Collection in Nashville. They are moist and are nicely flavored. The attendant was very friendly and advised that it is much cheaper to by a dozen or half a dozen instead of 2-3 cupcakes at a time. All flavors were delicious. I was searching for a place to get something sweet for my husband's birthday during our vacation and saw that Destin has a Smallcakes so I had to make a visit. Living in Atlanta, unofficial cupcake capital, we are used to a wide variety of cupcake stores including Smallcakes. However, I haven't had a chance to visit them. My husband got a carrot cake, I got a german chocolate (based off the server's recommendation) and the boys got a birthday cake. Mine was good, I've had better but I'm very critical of german chocolate since I was young. The cake was not as light as I would have liked it but it was not extra dense like some are. Hubby said his was good which was a good sign since it was in the fridge for 2 days (he got sick the day we got them and didn't feel better until 2 days later). Of course, the boys loved their Daddy's birthday cake! :) All in all, I will try them again if I'm in the area of one here in Atlanta. However, I would not make any special trips to one. read more

Okay - who doesn't love a cupcake? I think that Small Cakes was brilliant, in bringing handheld desserts to Destin. They just opened, when we went in December - I was excited to visit! We got a variety - lemon, hostess cupcake, carrot cake, peanut butter cup, cookies and cream and double chocolate. My favorite was the lemon! Of course, my boys' favorites were the chocolate ones. :) These little cakes aren't cheap but...gourmet cupcakes aren't cheap to make. (and, I don't have to do it = perfect!) The cupcakes are good but customer service needs improvement. I was the only one in line (6/15 around 1 pm), cashier was on phone. I waited, waited, waited. After awhile she motioned for me to order while she was on phone. (She never ever spoke to me as I ordered because she was on phone)I ordered a few cupcakes then left. Problem was there were people behind me that we're now wanting to BUY CUPCAKES and she was still on phone. It seems she was answering many, many questions for someone ordering for a wedding.
