I ended up here after a late dessert craving. I came to YELP found an open desert spot just five minutes from my hotel, and learned that they have key lime pie on the menu. Walked in and two minutes later I was walking back out with a delicious slice of key lime pie. The service was excellent and quick. While waiting I noticed diners inside enjoying the donut shop ambiance, while eating delicious dessert. Yum! Stopped by yesterday to grab some donuts and a couple slices of pie/cake. We arrived later in the day after dinner, so pickings on the pastries was slim, but they still had a decent amount of donuts to choose from. Decided on a 6 pack with glazed, chocolate coconut x 2, sprinkles, chocolate glazed x 2. They were placed in a bag rather than box (I should have said something!) so of course the chocolate ended up on the bag and the other donuts. Luckily the donuts were good, though! Also ordered a slice of key lime pie (a must!) and a slice of a chocolate/vanilla cake (moist and perfect if you can't decided if you want a slice of chocolate or vanilla cake!). Donuts were very good and fresh! They had a few unique ones and I loved that they were not overly sweet. I really enjoyed the Key Lime Creme and the Devils Food Cake donuts! Took two stars because they served only black coffee with half and half creamer and sweet and low sugar. I didn't even drink my coffee... no other milk or sweetener options. Also, the menu only serves pork products. They didn't offer any chicken or beef substitutes for those who cannot have pork. We ended up skipping on the breakfast and just getting the donuts. We noticed this place always had a line, so we decided to try it out. We did not know what they were famous for, but we all got something different and shared. I got the pistachio and the orange muffin. The orange muffin was my favorite. I think it was the favorite for all of us. The banana muffin was good too. We did try a plain donut. It was good. This place is iconic. We raised our kids in Destin and this is one of our favorites. The original one on 98, you use to have to have cash. The serving sizes are enormous and honestly I was happy to see that considering the prices. But come hungry and early because there is a wait. More than your average donut shop. This place was amazing and very popular. We visited during the middle of the week and early morning, we still stood outside waiting but the line moved fast. They do have a separate line if you are just getting donuts. The menu has a little bit of everything with some specialties as well such as sweet potato pancakes with praline syrup, bendicts, omelets, tomato gravy & grits. We shared a stack of pancakes and the seafood omelet, all very tasty. Then of course we had to try some donuts, they were so fresh and so full of flavor but not overpowering. Had the donut hole twice on my recent vacay, once as carry out donuts and once dine in for full breakfast. We almost ate here for dinner one day too because the sandwiches sounded good. Donuts were great. I love a classic sour cream donut and they do them really well here. Process for carry out is fast and there is a separate line. Lunch was a little harder but still good. They have a double line system at the door. To the right for carry out, to the left up the ramp for dine in. They are ruthless about the seating and take the next person in line regardless of whether they are a party of 2 or a party of 6. I really like this setup because it seems to move the line faster than holding certain tables for certain party sizes. The only difference seems to be for the counter, and they will occasionally shout down the line looking for one or 2 for the counter. Our waitress was great and really knew the menu. She gave great suggestions. I split an "everything" with my daughter because she just wanted pancakes and I just wanted eggs and sausage. I was pleasantly surprised that the meat was not an or but an and, so I got sausage patty AND bacon AND ham. The ham was my favorite but all were good. My daughters are hash brown snobs so they said these were only ok, but I thought they were good -- just needed salt. Pancakes were massive and she only ate one. I ordered wheat toast to go with my eggs since she got the bread. The toast was only barely toasted so if you like it crispy, maybe ask for extra toasted. My husband decided to try the chili and I got a taste. It was very coney-like with huge amounts of completely disintegrated ground meat. Really greasy and spicy but very tasty. It is totally slinger chili and I loved it dolloped on my scrambled eggs. For the love of God, when you get done eating please leave quickly. This is not the place to linger over a 3rd cup of coffee (unless it's not busy). The donut hole is a must do, but I don't know if it's a must do more than once per vacay due to the long lines. I stopped into Donut Hole completely by accident. I had a serious craving for something lemon and originally went to Dunkin' hoping for a lemon-filled donut. No luck. On my way home, I decided to stop at Donut Hole and see if they had one. They didn't, but the employee suggested a lemon poppy seed muffin. While I was waiting, I spotted a lemon cake and decided to give that a try instead. Best decision I made all day. The lemon cake immediately reminded me of home. I'm originally from Northern New Jersey and grew up surrounded by incredible Italian bakeries. Since relocating, I've struggled to find cake that captures that same quality and texture. This cake did. The buttercream was light, airy, and fluffy instead of the heavy, dense frosting that so many bakeries use. The cake itself was equally light and full of bright lemon flavor without being overwhelming. Every bite felt like something straight out of the bakeries I grew up with. Unfortunately, I may have created a new problem for myself. While I only stopped in to satisfy a lemon craving, I saw several other cake flavors that looked just as tempting that I just try. If you're looking for cake with a genuinely light, whipped-style buttercream and a bakery-quality texture that's becoming harder and harder to find, Donut Hole is absolutely worth the stop.
