Talk about a food coma! My husband and I had an early, light dinner to save room for dessert. We came into The Yard around 8 pm on a weeknight and we were at first the only ones there. It gave us a chance to talk to the staff about the monthly specials. We saw them online but he didn't have prior knowledge of them in store. Since he had all of the ingredients, he was happy to make them for us. While making our shakes, a few more groups came in and ended up copying our shakes! They were as big and delicious as they look. They cost $18 each though. You do get to keep the glass; there is a washing station in the back. They have other options if you don't want a massive shake. Stopped in here late on a Wednesday evening! It was crazy crowded, but the line moved at a decent pace. I was unsure what to order, but decided on the Pineapple Upside Down Bowl due to seeing it was the special for June, plus it looked yummy! After ordering we got our ticket and waited. They got the order out fast, but speed never trumps accuracy! The Pineapple Upside Down wasn't anything like the description mentioned. It was simply a pretty bowl with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, a scoop of cookie dough, and a pineapple and cherry for garnish. The description mentioned a pineapple drizzle and pineapple cake which were absent from mine. It was so crowded, I didn't even bother getting back in line to let them know. The ice cream was good just not what I expected from the description! As far as the workers, everyone I saw was working extremely hard. The only thing was they were working so hard there was little to no crowd interaction. No one greeting as customers walked in and I never noticed any of the workers smiling. I get it though, like I said, it was extremely crowded so maybe that led to the lack of customer service. Our group had 6 people and we got 5 different items. 3 specialty shakes, 1 two scoop cup, 1 float. My son and I shared but then we ended up eating what others couldn't finish. I got a lot of info from reviews prior to our visit thankfully. Pros: everything we tried was good, novelty items are super fun, large variety to choose from, able to create your own ice cream, cool keepsake from the mason jar, you're told to scan the QR code for the menu, wash station available to clean your jar as well as bags to put them in Cons: if it's your first time I feel like more personal instructions would be helpful than being told to scan a QR code--we waisted money because two of my kids would have been just fine with the bowl because they could care less about the jar, the rainbow brownie was meh- could have done without the brownie batter, more frequent cleaning in between customers would be nice They have more to offer than shakes and I feel like there's a missed marketing opportunity here. I was excited to take the kids to get fun ice cream while in destin and great looking treats! One of the kids has a mild nut allergy. There is always a possible risk with dessert places, but this place was next level awful. The staff was not very kind and I always mention this so they can use clean equipment to minimize cross contamination as much as possible this was not even an option for any of the blenders. I asked if he could get a cup then since this was the only logical option since they don't have a separate blender to accommodate a common allergy. They acted like this was a huge inconvenience and had me sign a waiver to begrudgingly make his dessert in the back due to the front being so messy. My child was teary eyed, embarrassed, and upset because they made such a noticeable ordeal out of his mild allergy and his took an extra 20 minutes to be made. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGY OR IF YOU WANT KIND STAFF. I have been to plenty of dessert places and this was the first time I have experienced anything like this. read more
