I bring my 2003 Toyota Camry, 76K miles to Small world for oil changes. I like that they check out the car and tell me what might become a problem in the future so I can budget for the repair. The blessing is my car is fine. However, I bought this car 2 years ago and the original owners had green coolant in the radiator and orange coolant in the reserve. The coolants hadn't mixed yet. I thought for sure, as usually at a dealership, they want to do a coolant flush. Small World had a more economical solution and syphoned out the reserve coolant and filled it with the green kind. Thanks for saving me some money. They are also very good about reminding me when I need my next oil change. I had to wait for my car and I made an appointment. It only took an hour and they had a nice waiting room with snacks and coffee and a TV, bathroom. You can always go across the street to do some second hand shopping at St Vincents if you are bored or get something to eat 1 block away. read more

Owner was horrible, rude and obnoxious! Had vehicle towed there only to find the have $199 fee, just to walk in the door. When I was on the phone prior to having it towed there, there was no mention of it! Essentially get you there with hopes you will not get it moved to another location. THE KIND OF MECHANIC PEOPLE WARN YOU ABOUT Long story short they made multiple mistakes and lied to me about my engine code to tell me my car wasn't worth fixing instead of correcting their mistake. I had it checked by two other mechanics and when I called Jamie at Small World to ask why he would lie about the engine code he hung up on me. I would not recommend anyone go to them, especially young women. They are unprofessional and very dishonest. Long version: brought my car here to have the radiator hoses replaced and the day I picked it up it immediately was overheating because the hoses weren't attached! I brought it back and they installed a new radiator for me which was great. However, I've had more problems with the engine overheating and had another mechanic look at it who told me it was the radiator and I needed another new one. I called Small World and they said if it was a "parts issue" with a part they installed it could be covered under their warranty. I brought it back again and they took my car and came back and told me the radiator was fine but that I had a blown head gasket and it wasn't worth fixing. I knew that my check engine light was on for the O2 sensor, but he told me nothing came up for the O2 sensor and it was something else entirely. That was when I knew he was lying to me (last time I was there Jamie himself was the one who told me it was the O2 sensor lolll and I've had 3 people check it in the past month). The next day I got a 3rd opinion and they told me it was definitely not a blown head gasket, he read the code and it WAS for just the O2 sensor and they confirmed it was the radiator. I called Jamie to tell him that and asked why he felt he needed to lie about the engine code and he hung up on me. Very unprofessional, very dishonest business. read more

Great customer service! Marty and his team of professionals took care of my car issues. I went in with a leaking rear main seal and some problems shifting into higher gears. The team made a full assessment on my car, fix all the problems I was having. When I took my car to the dealership they were trying to charge me double what small town auto was trying to. These people have left me with great confidence that they know their business! My Subaru had an interior water leak that mainly soaked the rear passenger floor. Not only did Small World Auto schedule me quickly, they diagnosed and fixed the problem: ash from our local wildfire had clogged my sunroof drains causing water to be captured and routed to the lowest part of my vehicle. They correctly explained the sloping of my driveway where my car had been parked as to where the water had pooled in the interior of my car. Had service here over the years. A few years ago I got a clutch. Lasted jut 3 years. I foolishly went back for another clutch a few months ago and ever since the car feels strange just after shifting. Had their techs look at it on 2 separate occasions and they couldn't find anything wrong and insisted it was an engine management issue. The first time they suggested this they pulled a bunch of vacuum lines off and then forgot to reconnect 2 of them causing a really rough idle. After the second check my transmission magically grenade'd itself. They also forgot to put the plastic panel pins back in so the under-trays started flapping in the wind on the highway(causing damage). Overall not impressed with these guys. Would not recommend to anyone even for an oil change. read more

I brought in my truck to have the blinkers looked at/fixed. This is an older truck. After a while they called back and had a very long list of what needed to be fixed. I got a bill for $120 and the list. No fix at all. Sure the list was valuable information, but not what I came in for. I'm confident that they can fix a vehicle well, they just don't put themselves in the shoes of a budget minded driver. Be sure to tell them not to take your truck apart and find old parts. I consider this review an important and necessary warning. Here are a few reasons why to avoid Small World Auto Center: 1. Overcharging: Quoted me $180 to fix the problem, charged me over $800 for a problem they never fixed. 2. Misrepresenting their ability to do the job: After paying them $800 to get my veh back, I had to find the problem myself, and fix it at home. 3. Damaged wiring: Their 'professional' service dept put holes all through my wiring looking for a short-to-ground...and never found it. 4. Length of time: they said they could fix it in a "day or two" it took nearly 2 weeks to get a solid answer from the service department, and only when I raised my voice did they start to move their butts. 5. Excuses: no shortage there. 6. Additionally, the Small World parts shop/distributor on 4th in Eugene is rediculously overpriced. Avoid that place too. Conclusion: as to the problem with my veh: I found the short-to-ground in a couple of hours working in pouring down rain...it was a wired bundle under the driver's side feet not more than 2 ft from the fuse box. It had worn through and caused the system go haywire. I don't see how the service guy missed it, the overewhelming stench of burning wire hit me when i lifted the carpet...i knew he had been there too when i saw the freshly damaged wires and missing screws. ( I know they deserve a lawsuit but the stress isn't worth it to me. ) read more

Went in because my ABS light was on. They charged me for a diagnosis and unlike most places after you agree to get the work done that fee is usually waived, they did not waive the fee. I had my brakes and rotors replaced there and had issues with one rotor being thicker than the other making my car feel like it was going to jerk right off the road. They then wanted to charge me to look at the issue. I'm wondering if they really changed the rotors out. They also had a very arrogant attitude. I would not use them. read more

I went here looking for a shop near me. What a mistake. The people were nice but they destroyed my Toyota. I took it in for a check engine light which was a catalytic converter. They found other things that needed attention including wheel bearings. The work cost $3,500!! I got the truck back and it had a new vibration and my mileage went from 19/gallon to 12!! I took it back and they said the vibration was a drive line which cost another $500. They never looked into the mileage issue. Since the vibration started after they worked on the truck it is logical it was the result of something they did. I took it back again and they found a screwup they did impacting mileage nothing with the vibration. They had it for a total of 10 days and the vehicle runs like crap. Mileage is 14/gallon the vibration still drives me crazy and I am $4,000 lighter. They made a mess of my truck and I will never take it back. Once I can recover from flushing money down the toilet I will take it somewhere they know what the hack they are doing. DON'T take your vehicle to these guys. They have no idea what they are doing. read more

The car was requested for an 80K service. the car has 120K on it. the car is registered to my wife , not my daughter. AND I have never had that car serviced by Small World. 1- random emails 2-random emails with incorrect information there is enough identity theft going on to make this look suspicious. read more

I have written reviews on Small World Auto (SWA) on May 17, July 26, and Sept. 18th. Every one of them has been excellent, but Yelp chooses to call them not relevant. I brought my car in today because all of a sudden 3 lights lit up the dashboard. Unfortunately, this time it was not good news and to do it right, it will be costly. SWA gave me options of piece-mealing it as each ignitor goes bad, but it's expensive to constantly take the car apart and put it back together for each one rather than just do them all at once. When they're in there, they will check the spark plugs to see if they need replacing (car is 12 years old, so they probably do), so they don't have to redo half the work. My car has only 92,000 miles and Toyotas are usually good for 250-300,000 miles, so I'll be bringing the car back on Monday. The place is always friendly and clean and they explain the what and why EVERY time. They also tell me when something is not needed, which is appreciated. I recommend them highly. read more

Caveat Emptor! They told me all the problems and the grand cost of repair $1900, but not that replacing the battery would get my car running again and that it would be fine. Would have been nice if they had instead of "knowing a guy" who would buy the car from me for $500. Also, owner and mechanic reviewed cook grills on the internet while I stood at the counter. Unfortunately I can't put 0 stars. The review by Joe F is fairly dated at this point but it is just as valid as when I tried Small World. At the end of his review he mentions that he thought his situation was worthy of a lawsuit... Well, I took them to small claims court. They damaged my car multiple times. These guys are the lowest of the low. At least Marty, the guy who runs the place is. The guys in the shop seemed innocent but were (at the least) incompetent. Later I heard from plenty of people about how bad SW is - too late. I took a used Audi TT there to get it worked on just after purchasing it. I was charged $1,700 for what looked on paper to be a thorough check-up and maintenance of systems. I left SW and nearly crashed due to my brakes only functioning part of the time. I'd picked the car up at the end of the day after they were closed, so I returned the next morning, engine braking and staying far from other cars. A very young mechanic called me around to the shop and said that he'd likely cut my into brake line during his work the day before. He demonstrated how the line getting into a certain position would cause the brakes not to work. We both agreed the car hadn't come in that way... Decent kid. I walked back into the front and explained the situation to Marty. He blanched. He denied fault but was quick to say they'd take care of it b/c I'd spent a lot of money and they wanted me happy. I wasn't into an argument; I was content to let the problem be fixed and just move on. I also mentioned the driver side door was squeaking; one of the services I'd paid for was to lube the doors. He said they'd spray some WD-40 on it. $1,700, and I get WD-40, not grease? I have little mechanical skills but I can spray an aerosol can... I was feeling pretty stung. I had to leave the car; they fixed the brakeline. I went to a Jiffy Lube a month later - one that I'd been to many times before, and the manager got w/ me and explained that the screw on my oil pan had been cross threaded and the pan was leaking b/c of it. It's aluminum - bad news. We agreed to have it put back in as they'd found it. I examined my invoice/report from Small World and found no notes on the screw being cross-threaded. I called Marty and explained the situation. I was adamant that they repair the damage. Again, he denied fault but said he wanted me happy. I didn't let it slide, but agreed to let them fix it. They supposedly fixed it. I got it back. Some weeks later I was driving down I-5 at night at 70 mph. The car died. Dead: No lights, power steering, etc. There were no lights on that part of the highway and no cars to see the shoulder by. I drifted over and stopped; I had it towed to a place I looked up in Corvallis, where I live - got home late, then had to rent a car for my commute early next morning (pay a cab too). When I went back, the mechanic showed me a part that sits on the battery - right on top, plain for anyone to see. It's called a bus fuse. He flipped back the top and showed me how it was melted. The alternator was supposed to be wired to the melted section but had been wired directly to the battery i.e. it was unprotected. Result: Alternator was destroyed and needed to be replaced. And, guess what: My oil pan was leaking. Any through inspection (like one you pay $1,700 for) would've revealed this bus fuse problem to a mechanic. Small claims court requires writing a letter to try rectify the issue outside of court. I wrote the letter (very detailed, dates, etc), and got certified delivery. I said that after the money and time I'd spent, the damage to my car, there was no way I'd return it to them, warranty or not. I told SW I expected them to cover my rental car and the repair costs. No response. Court date was set. The judge calls the cases, then tells everyone that he' d like them to go into mediation. You could refuse, but you'd be giving an impression to the judge that might not reflect favorably. I agree and I go into w/ good faith, hoping to work it out. Marty and I go w/ the mediator. I can't even begin to describe what a slime-ball this Marty was/is. The mediator quickly took Marty's side in my opinion. Marty played the good businessman, talked about integrity, and said that their machining tools were the same ones NASA used for the space shuttle. No facts, just emotional nonsense. The space shuttle thing was a great example - total madness and bs. You can't send the shuttle up w/ a cross-threaded oil pan, I said. I expressed myself clearly and courteously at first but it got very frustrating. Eventually I pushed the chair back and stood up, saying 'It's over'. I proceeded to tell Marty what a turd he is, that it was his choice to live and behave this way. I cussed repeatedly and pointed my finger at him, asked him how he can sleep. I'm not bragging, and I wish it had just been cleared up. I cleared my conscience and he heard the truth read more

I went to this shop faithfully for about 7 years. They used to do good work and treat you fairly, but they've gone down hill in the past several years and I stopped patronizing them about 3 years ago. The manager has a rather surly attitude and the prices are much higher than the other shop I use now. They misdiagnosed my check engine light and I had to bring my Jeep back in several times to have multiple sensors replaced until it finally got fixed. Most of the time, the work they did was good, but highly priced. They also made some diagnoses on my Jeep telling me that "these are going to fail any minute and you need to get these fixed immediately" but that was 5 years ago and the items are still fine. These items are: a small oil leak on the rear main seal, axle, cylinder head gasket, rear differential, and timing chain. Seemed like they were trying to scare me into getting the work done. My father is elderly and he also went to this shop but they recommended so many fixes on his car that he was almost scared to drive it after that. The manager also said some highly insulting things to my dad when I was with him in the lobby during a drop off. That was the time that I decided to stop patronizing this shop. read more
