A wonderful bakery and cafe. While there are several in town -- all on the "same" street -- this one is the best. I've run in three times to grab some coffee and a pastry on my way to work but, today, I sat down and enjoyed my latte as it is meant to be enjoyed, from a ceramic cup while seated and listened to the great music of Nick Drake. I had a slice of pie, rhubarb, and shared a story with the baker of my Great Aunt Belle's rhubarb pie. The only savory dish I have tried to date was a wonderfully creamy slice of quiche. BTW, as a baker myself, I don't understand the complaint about some of the pastries being too buttery. Does the writer want shortening? Blah! read more

I'm from out of town but the small oven was highly recommended. Soon as I walked in the smell was nothing but delicious and fresh. Well, It didn't disappoint. I have the turkey, summer slaw and homemade aioli, it was awesome! My friend had the ham, seasonal blue and Dijon and said it was excellent. Very good coffee also. They were out of the pork shoulder for the sandwich I ordered for pickup, but when they replaced it with chicken, I didn't realize they would also substitute the orange for carrots & cauliflower. What a great spot in Easthampton if you're looking for lunch. First, the counter service is very friendly and helpful. On my visits there has been a bit of a line for the weekend lunch crowd, and on each occasion the staff moved through the line quickly but without losing their friendliness. The food is quite good as well. Tasty sandwiches on delicious bread, and really good desserts. The croissants were impossibly light, and the other pastries I tried were also quite good. Small oven is perhaps the best bakery/breakfast spot in the world. I go to school in the area but am originally from LA, and I dream of the sticky buns here. I don't know what type of magic goes into these super flaky delicacies--but no one in LA has been able to come close. I've been to Easthampton a handful of times and always missed out on this place. Well today was my lucky day! Super pleasant and friendly counter service. The sense of community in this quaint town is what keeps drawing me back. One of the best almond croissants. So light, so flaky, so melt in your mouth. Paired with a cup of tasty apple cider (available hot or cold) makes it a combo that can't be beat. I'll gladly come back here and recommend this highly from a gal who's grandfather owned a bakery. Rolled into small oven while passing through town and got the egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant. Amazing. Stupidly good. The croissant was perfectly flakey and everything tasted so fresh. Service was quick and polite, and the rice was totally reasonable. Didn't get to try their breads (saw sourdough and challah) but they looked fantastic. We got a cake for a kid's party, and it was the best move ever! We wanted something both the kids and the adults would like, and wound up with something everyone - young and old - LOVED. We had everyone asking us where we got the cake and I was proud to say "SMALL OVEN! SMALL OVEN!! SMALL OVEN!" It was super easy to order, it was ready when they said it would be, it looked great, it fed an army, and it was delicious. We love this place! Food is always incredible. Today, we had the brisket sandwich, the smoked turkey sandwich, and the bacon and cheddar quiche. Each dish unique, special, and with excellent attention to detail. The accompanying greens were fresh and perfect. And the sandwich bread = OMG. Very friendly staff. Place always has a great vibe. And we took a couple Chocolate and Tahini Tartlets home for dessert - also amazing. Our favorite place in town. Excellent croissants, the best in the Easthampton/Northampton area, and taste just like in France. They also make excellent cupcakes, cakes, bread. Great food, but only if you've got 30 minutes to wait for it. I keep trying to love this place, but every time I go, the service is horrible. The counter person is always friendly, but the food takes forever to arrive. I've been at least 10 times, and it happens every time, so not just a busy period or fluke. Today I ordered a cold soup and then waited 10 minutes before I finally walked out of the last time. I've ordered by phone too, and still had to wait when I get there. I waited nearly 20 minutes one morning for an egg sandwich. Sorry, the food is good, but not that good. Certainly won't be back. Bummer, as I was one of the Kickstarter funders, never got my reward or even a thank you, so shouldn't be surprised the incompetence of the management. read more

The Owner's are very accommodating. I had a last minute cook out with Family and Friends. I called the day before and explained that I needed cupcakes and another hand held dessert for 15 People. They suggested small Lemon Curd Tarts. WOW...absolutely beautiful presentation with the most delicious lemon curd in a flaky superb crust!!! The "buzz" from the crowd was...."absolutely delicious." The Cupcakes were equally delicious. The rich flavorful moist cake with a buttercream frosting were compared to cupcakes from another Bakery...No Contest!!! Also picked up flaky perfect croissant for breakfast and Egg in brioche with Calamata olives. Fantastic. Everything in the case looked "mouthwatering" good. Thankfully Small Oven is here! wow this place gets it, the food was so fresh!!!!!!!!! the coffee was amazing, the service was splendid, the music was Sade, Erykah Badu, with some soul classics thrown in. I ate my delicious roast beef sandwich while watching the snow fall. Every bite was heaven and the apple and pear Cole Slaw was outstanding.
