I think I had one of the BEST salmon bagels of my life here!!! First off, they do not skimp on the salmon, which is a huge green flag. So much salmon and it appeared to be of very high-quality and was super tasty! I absolutely loved all the toppings, especially the dill and the addition of a lemon to squeeze on top was such a nice touch. Some of my friends got some of the pastries and other breakfast sandwiches and they all loved what they got as well. This is a great bakery, and hopefully I'll get to try their restaurant at some point!
Wanted to try Smor next door but it was closed, so picked up some items from the bakery: - AEC egg sandwich (5/5): buttery fluffy bread, eggs, and avocado. Incredible, freshly made - Cinnamon roll (4/5): quite dense and very sweet - Egg and ham croissant (4.5/5): enjoyable - Double espresso (4/5): not bad, don't think it was single origin, darker roast Very hard finding seating inside so had to sit outside in the 25 degree cold for a while, will be back someday to try out the actual restaurant!
So I passed by this nice cute, hip, and trendy bakery and to my surprise, it has a nice list of drinks that are really affordable compared to a lot of coffee shops these days. Got an iced latte with skim milk and it was pretty good. Place is very quiet and it was somewhat packed. Pretty good place to use your computer to do work and sip coffee. Lots of wood seating and a very industrial feel with high ceilings.
One of the best cardamon cinnamon roll I've had so far in NY! The matcha donut was overly sweet for me! Definetly coming back here every time I'm in NY
Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon to grab a cardamom bun. It was solid, but the ones at La Cabra (or Otway Bakery, if you're willing to go to Brooklyn) are much better.
I popped over to Smør to meet a friend for coffee and a treat. The bakery is a great spot to sit and enjoy a casual bite and a nice coffee. There's a good amount of seating for such a small space with natural light and a good atmosphere. I decided to get an iced latte and an open faced tuna sandwich. I'm a big tuna sandwich fan (especially any option that does not include celery). This one is served on top of sliced sourdough with lettuce, corn, bell pepper, red onion, and dill. It was very good, but not a resounding favorite. It was a bit messy to eat, and I think it had a few too many ingredients. Still a tasty lunch that I wouldn't hesitate to order again.
If you're looking for Cardamom Buns, this is the place! Best one I've had in NYC so far. It's a full experience - the lacey baked dough strips, generous amounts of cardamom paste, the little bits of course sugar topping. Everything that I've read about and try to re-creating at home, but why spend the hours when you can support a small business with $5-6 purchase. The bakery is a bit of a trek from the subway, but a bit easier if you take the L from Union Square/14 Street to 1st Avenue. Would like to explore those avenues more in the future. When I went, in 2024, there was a lot of construction awning covering the business and block, so it was a bit hard to find. Came upon the sister restaurant, Smor, first and had to continue walking down. Upon entering, you're in the cloud of wonderful smells and cozy minimal Norwegian design, lots of plywood colors, a little seating area in the front, and shelves for a small marketplace. There's only a few tables to sit at, maybe more during the warmer months outside. The items that they had for sale on marketplace were well curated, high-quality, and unique; showcasing a lot of small businesses; but I was here for the cardamom buns! And they had plenty. It was late on a Sunday afternoon, so I'm not sure if they usually sell other pastries. But they had plenty of what I was looking for. I don't remember if I also got a cinnamon bun, I think it was okay too. Go here! Get a few and freeze them for a delicious breakfast or snack - or you may just end up eating them all in one week, like I did. So addicting. And isn't cardamom healthy for you? - an Ayurvedic spice. Benefits all around, LOL.
Best cardamom bun in the city. You can't have a bad pastry here, all of it is baked fresh, including their bread loaves. East village was pretty dead on a Friday morning but then I walked past smor and it was packed!! Their brunch items including their avo toast and eggs are also delicious but definitely come for a coffee and a pastry!
Stopped in on a walk around the neighborhood and the place was full of people working on their laptops or reading. I could see why because the space was airy and sunlit and smelled like bread, an ideal combination. We arrived when they were cleaning the display case so we couldn't get a good look at the items available and there wasn't a menu of the baked goods offered (not uncommon especially in places that change up their menu regularly), but the staff member named a few of the items they had available. I picked a savory option, the pesto asiago roll. It was okay minus a bitter note from the pesto that clashed with the sharpness of the asiago. The laminated dough was good, it had a nice stretchiness that could've been enhanced with a quick reheat. I'll make sure to try some of their other options next time I'm in the area.
What a great little coffee shop! After enjoying a dinner at Smorgasbord we decided to visit the bakery for breakfast. It's fairly but has seats inside and out (not sure if there's a restroom?), service is at the counter. They have a range of pastries and sandwiches and coffee etc. The coffee is great, strong but smooth and the pastries are fantastic. We had a seasonal donut and a Cardamom Bun. The bun was less doughy than others I have had previously- it had more of a heavy croissant like texture. It was however delicious with a good hit of Cardamom. Staff are friendly, the cafe is light and bright, there's a small variety of groceries to buy (condiments, canned fish etc) and prices are reasonable.
I was looking for a bakery in this area, found this place and saw some pictures of the cardamom bun, and was sold. The shop was a lot smaller than I expected and was packed, but I was able to get one of the tables outside. The cardamom bun was as good as it looked, very soft, a little buttery, and pleasantly strong on the cardamom. I got a decaf cardamom latte to go with, which was also great, very smooth and just barely sweet. Wonderful start to my morning.
Sneaky Smør! . This sneaky bakery tucked away between 1st ave and Ave A has fresh made baked goods with a bit of a Scandinavian twist. This is not your average bakery. Everything here is super fresh and they are constantly making fresh baked goods. . This place has been added to my coffee and sweet/savory pastry rotation. . In short: - Great baked goods and coffee! - I'll be back
second time here and did not disappoint! still have savory bfast options at the bakery. got bfast burrito and sandwich both were delish. also got the cinnamon roll and cardamom bun of course. service quick! sat outside and had a grand ole time
I ordered delivery a few times and the food is always delicious. The turkey sandwich is so good i love the bread. Everything I've ordered was worth it. The yogurt bowl was really good loved the fruit and granola. The burrito was also good. Delivery time wasnt too long and I look forward to ordering on the weekends when its from here. I have go in one day. Broccoli sandwich also delicious. read more

I've been on a cardamom bun kick recently and am trying to find a La Cabra backup. I might have held too high of expectations for Smor and ordered: Cardamom bun Cardamom oat latte Although a bit cheaper than La Cabra, I was not that impressed here and wouldn't come back. I ordered online and for whatever reason it said the order was ready ASAP, but then within 45-55 minutes so that gave me mixed feelings. The cardamom bun is very bread heavy-for the first few bites, you'll bite into the cardamom spice then nothing else after. The oat latte had very minimal to little of a cardamom taste so the $0.50 upcharge for the syrup flavor felt a bit of a waste. Good to keep in the back pocket, but not to yearn for. read more

Nice people, sweet young person at the register! Omg the cardamom bun. Don't miss it if you are in the east village, it can hold its own against any croissant! Coffee was excellent, I went twice on our last visit because I wanted that cardamom bun. read more

Cute scandinavian bakery in east village that has an amazing breakfast sandwich. The sausage egg and cheese sandwich was huge with a delicious tarragon aioli. Space is a little small but there are a few seats and inside and outside for you to enjoy your food or do some work. Service was quick and sandwich was piping hot when I got it. Will be going back to try their baked goods! read more

Super delicious. The egg was fluffy and the bacon was thick and crunchy. Definitely will be coming back to try their pastries. read more
What a fantastic, casual, delicious place! We ate outside, as tables were also available. The food was delicious and very reasonable. I ate the A.E.C., which was so much on one sandwich. Others ordered a few of the Yogurt and Granola. We also had cinnamon buns to share, which we all enjoyed. We will definitely come back again soon. read more

Love the tinned fish wall, scallion cheddar scone, and cinnamon bun(a tiny bit more than la cabra's) Lots of dogs frequent this cafe. It's a little confusing because the Smor restaurant is right next door and has more of an expanded menu. A few tables inside and out. Would definitely come back read more
Stopped by here around 3 pm on a Saturday and got the loaded focaccia, with potato and cheese. It was decent but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again. Their ham and cheese croissant looked so good but I don't eat meat and there weren't any other savory croissants left! Service was nice, maybe their other pastries are better? read more

I really wanted to try the sausage roll, but it was sold out around 1pm on a Wednesday. I ended up trying the cardamom bun and a scallion cheddar scone. The cardamom bun very heavy on cardamom, a little less sweet than La Cabra's, but it was more dense. Scallion cheddar scone was fluffy on the inside and had a good crust outside and had so much scallion flavor packed into it. It was delicious. read more
Came here again, and while the sandwiches and pastries were good the chai latte was terrible. It was probably one of the worst I had, very watered down and tasted like water with cinnamon. Took one star off because the pastries and sandwiches are still good! read more
The Smør team just opened a bakery on the same block, about the size of their original location, with some more savory options but also a full case of delicious new baked goods. It's all about the buns, with 3 excellent choices available today (cinnamon, cardamom and a savory), but also make sure you try the amazing Chocolate Rye Cookie. And definitely get something savory - the incredible Sausage, Egg & Cheese on housemade brioche is a must. read more

Not too sweet, with a perfect hit of cardamom! And their seeded sourdough smells so good. We heard talk about this bakery and made sure to hit it up before heading back to LA! read more

Smor is a great place to check out if you want to try out some Scandinavian food! There isn't too many Scandinavian spots in the city, and this is one is a great one. The bakery was really nice and airy. It felt like it was decorated like an IKEA store, which makes sense since IKEA is also Swedish. I went to the SMOR bakery and the food was pretty good. I got the egg and bread combo and it was very fresh. The bread was really authentic and not greasy. The prices were pretty good, most of the meals were from $10-$15 and the drinks were $4-$5. The lemonade was also pretty good. The cashier was friendly and also gave some good suggestions on what to choose to eat. The food did kind of take long to come out, it was around a 10-15 minute wait, but the people working did apologize for the long wait. There is some seating inside and outside, and there was a lot of people working on their laptops. Next time, I will definitely check out their restaurant which is right next door! Price: $14.70 Rating: 8/10 read more
