The reason this place is so fantastic is because it's a tiny 4 minute walk from the Watsonville airport and the pizza is really good! The staff are always so friendly here and the food itself is worth every cent! We discovered this place on accident because it's on the corner in Watsonville and a very unassuming building. I will say that behind those unassuming doors is the best pizza that I have ever had! We were starving after some lumber shopping and I remembered there was a pizza place nearby that I had been wanting to try, so we stopped in. It wasn't busy and we didn't have to wait in line. I wanted to try their deep dish pizza, and they don't serve it by the slice so we decided to wait for a whole pizza. In the meantime, we shared a nice beer (they kindly offered to divide it into 2 nice glasses). It wasn't a long wait before the pizza was ready and they served it up nice and hot. Boy, was it tasty! It had a perfect combination of crispy crust on the bottom, that transitioned to a soft chewy texture, lots of very yummy sauce, plenty of cheese, and the toppings. I can see why they don't recommend the deep dish pizza "to go", as the moisture in the ingredients would soften the crispy bottom of the crust. We finished the whole pizza between the two of us (did I say we were starving). My dining companion loved the interior, but it wasn't my cup of tea, it's a little on the sparse and funky side, but once the pizza arrives, you don't really notice it. Watsonville isn't the town I expect to find first rate thin-crust pizza and authentic Detroit-style pizza. The base is a tiny bit thicker and the crust a little puffier than an authentic New York slice. But if you are a New York pizza lover, this will satisfy your cravings. The slice was absolutely delicious and the cheese perfectly chewy with a squeaky bite. I have never seen real Detroit-style pizza out west and have taken to making it myself. This is the real deal, a perfect oregano-forward sauce with real Wisconsin brick cheese baked in a black metal pan. I loved it. We are a pizza-snob family and I not-so-humbly submit that I know what I'm talking about. This place would be a find in any city and you'd be overjoyed to find it in San Francisco or Los Angeles. Store is located on the corner and not much parking to be had during the lunch rush so had park down the street and around three corner. There was a line and most seats were filled (good sign). Not an intimate place for a date, but a good place to go during lunch or after a movie. They do sell beer. The restroom is clean and they have 1 high chair. As for the pizza. It was great! I lived in NYC for 5 years and also Connecticut and I consider myself a pizza snob. The crust was light and airy with that char & crisp that you want. The sauce had that perfect blend of acidity, richness and the taste of tomato. The mozzarella was wonderful. I was transported. Easily the best plain slice I've had on the central coast. First off, the staff there is always super nice. I've gone there more times than I can count, and I've never had a bad experience. One time, my mom and dad went there, and they each got a slice and were showing interest in other types to so they gave them a free slice. It probably helped that my parents are cute old people, but still, that's how you get loyal customers. Their Detroit style is what helps them stand out among all the great pizza in the area. Their regular pies are great too, but the Detroit is what made me go there in the first place. As of March 2024, they do smash burgers on Thursday nights, and those are great. Nice and crispy patties. Slice Project has a small menu, but that goes in their favor. They've perfected what they do. My only wish is that they'd have one more type of burger. I've had both the classic and Ronald's Dead, and they were both delicious, but I wish there was one more burger that stood out a bit more. Maybe mushroom and Swiss or a bacon burger with a fried egg. Just one more. But even if they change nothing and keep going in this direction, I'll always return. read more

Had a great experience at the slice project location, located on hanger Way near the Watsonville airport. We got two slices of pep and I've also tried one of their large pizzas. The slices of pepper are so delicious on one of them. We added hot honey and received a packet so we could put as much as we wanted on. It was so yummy and definitely passes the fold test. If you are going to get a whole pie, just know it's a really big portion so I would definitely recommend getting one if you are planning on sharing with friends, especially on a beach day. Location is cute and you're able to enjoy the outdoors, especially in the summer. It's nice to also walk around to the other restaurants and beer garden. There is a gentleman that works there almost every time I go, and he is very kind and considerate for only having one or two people behind the counter. We drove out of our way because we wanted Detroit Pizza and the reviews were good. This pizza was AMAZING! The crust was baked to perfection. Dark around the edges and golden brown underside but not over cooked and the cheese baked edging is phenomenal (called Frico). Crispy but soft, and perfect crunch into pillowy flavorful crust. Our pizza was actually perfect to me, the right ratio of toppings to crust, the most amazing cheese pull ever, and delicious right to the last bite. As they walk up to your table, you are immediately captivated because you see how good it looks and that aroma...the whole place just smells so good. CLEAN: This place was so clean, and the kitchen is open. You can see them making the pizzas right there and the kitchen clean was so clean too. FRIENDLY: It felt personal; they all smile, and welcome you. You're not just a customer, but they want you to enjoy that work of art pizza. Hubby and I were staying close to the area and were super excited to try the Detroit style pizza. Unfortunately, we got there when it was super busy filled with parents who couldn't make up there mind what to order and was holding up the line longer than it should've. When we got to the front the guy kindly told us there was no more Detroit pizza. We had to order sliced pieces of pizza that were not fresh but reheated.
