I came here last night with my coworker and the food was honestly really good. Especially when I saw the fries and how it had Mac and cheese on it... my mouth was watering. I had a gluttony moment for sure. What I don't understand though was the ordering process, you would go in, grab the menu, order, and give you a pager and wait. I thought that I would have to pick up the order from the from but they came to me which didn't really make sense to use the pager. We also went to the comedy club that the restaurant was hosting and I'm sorry but that was bad. Definitely an awkward environment, only a handful of people there and you can tell that some people were forcing their laughs. Definitely don't recommend that. Very expensive for the quality and quantity of food. We had a "One Meat" entree and a salad (that came with a scoop of pulled pork), no drinks, that came to $60 with tip. The "One Meat" entree came with three pork ribs (a rack of ribs is usually 10-13 ribs, and a half-rack has 5-6) and a half-dozen beer-battered onion rings. The salad came with the scoop of pulled pork, chopped lettuce, a ton of croutons, some sweet banana peppers, and a few other things. The service was "fast casual" - you order at the counter, you get your own water, they bring the food, you buss your own table. For $60, we'll go to King City Grill next time. read more

A coworker and I had the opportunity to do lunch at this restaurant. For those who know King City it's a bit hidden but convenient hop off the 101 highway. The outside is ok though nothing special and the inside is quite airy. I noticed they have an additional room for seating. This was my first visit based on photos others had posted to Yelp. Their burgers and fries looked decadent. The fries however looked like way too much so I went with the Deluxe Smash Burger and it did not disappoint. I only did one patty and despite expecting it to be thinner than I might like it was not. The price is a bit higher than I expected but the overall meal was ine I didn't look back on with regret and I would probably do it again. The customer service was fine, though not table waited, You order at the cash register and then pick up the food there. The turn around on an order was good and the portion on the fries generous. I would note, one word of caution. Not sure what brand of Ketchup they use but it should be avoided or atleast taste tested before you douse your food in it. It didn't agree with me or my coworker. But on the other hand, the BBQ at the table was delicious. I feel like it might be made in house but it was the delivery system for both the burgers and fries. To management, keep it simple Heinz on the ketchup. Overall experience was good and will likely revisit again in the future. read more

Holy smokes! Who knew this gem was here in King City? Son and I are just out on a Sunday drive checking out the California Missions and he runs across this place on yelp. Atmosphere is laid back, multi-tap bar with lots of local beers, and outstanding BBQ smoked right outside! Arrive when they open, it got packed fast! We were passing through town and decided to stop here. We were not disappointed. We sat at the counter and enjoyed the atmosphere. I was in heaven, perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth and just the right amount of peppery spice. I don't know how they managed to keep the bun so crispy with such a rich meat filling but they did. There was so much food each combo comes with 2 sides. The corn bread is a must have, they have the best honey butter to pair with it. The house made ranch's are so yummy too. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is such a fun vibe and family friendly. Many games free to play for both adults and children. Aside from the friendly staff, the rest of the experience was just so-so for us. We had stopped to watch our team in the playoffs as we weren't sure that we could make it to the next potential stop in Salinas. As it was, we were early for even the pre-game and could have pressed on. I recall eating in this building several times years ago when it was Keefer's Inn. The Rustic Barrel is trying to walk a line between being a BBQ place and a venue for watching sports with a wide variety of craft beers on tap. The ambiance seems like it's not quite finished. The prices are on the high side we thought. Dear Hubby and I split the two-meat platter. We ordered the pulled pork and the tri-tip. Both were okay, but not outstanding. We had a big accident when the BBQ sauce squeeze container wasn't dispensing very freely. We didn't have a toothpick to try to clear it, and upon further squeezing, the whole top flew off and spit out a whole lot of sauce onto the tray holding our food. The bartender came over in due course, apologized, and brought us a clean tray. That's their "plate" system - a plastic serving tray with fresh paper food wrap on top for cleanliness. This is odd; I was looking for the photos I could swear that I took to recall the sides we ordered. No pictures? That's really odd. We did have a smallish piece of cornbread to split. We ordered half & half of fries and onion rings. The rings were better / more tasty than the fries. Another Yelper had mentioned a really good dessert they'd had here. No desserts at all available the evening we were there. Dear Hubby had a sampler of beers / ciders. He ended up leaving more than half of the ciders; too sweet for his preference. They didn't have anything approaching a Hefeweizen, which is the style of brew he prefers. That seemed odd with so many different beers on the menu. All in all, the experience wasn't quite what we were hoping for, plus our team was losing badly, so we paid the check and headed up the road in the middle of the third quarter. Sorry no photos. This place was top tier! My boyfriend and I stopped in King City overnight as a halfway point to our actual destination. We were unsure what to eat but the hotel owner suggested this place. We are SO glad we went in! From start to finish, everything was so good! Food, vibes, service! Mike, the manager, and Henry, the owner, were super cool dudes who absolutely love what they do and you can tell by how well they run this place. The chimichurri steak sandwich, chopped brisket sandwich, and buffalo wings were amazing - they were so good I forgot to take a photo before eating haha! The atmosphere is great, they have different kinds of entertainment monthly & pop-up events, they're very community oriented... our small town has needed something like this for YEARS! My only negative comment and I've even brought this to the owners attention is their Michelada's cups are too small! Lol! First impression was that the restaurant is very welcoming and clean. We received a friendly reception and quick directions when it was obvious we were here for the first time. Next came the order. We were blown away by the portions and presentation of the food. And the flavor? The sauces? So amazing. We had the Barrel fries with tri tip and a pulled pork sandwich. What a great dinner we had. Ribs were melt in your mouth delicious. Tri tip was cooked perfectly and so tender. The chicken was smoked so well, and all the meat tasted so good, you didn't even w want the BBQ sauce, but it sure was good sauce. Mild and spicy available. Dessert was a Cinnamon spice cake with tres leches frosting. Delicious. Don't drink, but apparently there are many choices of local tap beers for those that do. Owners were beyond friendly. This place has only been here 3 months. A very comfortable place to eat, relax from traveling and watch some sports. We were so happy we could watch Little League Softball. What an experience this is the first time that I have come to the rustic barrel and not only do I get this warm feeling walking into the restaurant but the wonderful attitude, not only the staff, but the owner has for their customers is amazing. I got to try their pulled pork quesadilla, which was so filling. I couldn't even finish my Husband got to try their tri-tip as well as their ribs and they were mouthwatering just looking at them. The place has a lot of potential and I hope they reach it. O.G. Smash Burger was tasty and juicy. Pricey Couple of suggestions if you have people ordering from the counter post the menu on the wall and have a larger and more clearly marked area instead of having individual menus. There is a dark bar area in the corner use it for Karaoke instead of in the dining area. Loose the canned sodas and put in fountain drinks. Food portions were good but use smaller plates instead of large plastic trays and utilize the space better a lot was wasted. Service was good and friendly. read more

I've been wanting to try The Rustic Barrel Tap House and BBQ for a few months now. I finally had the opportunity to go and it didn't disappoint.The ambiance Is calm and friendly. The portion sizes were comparable to the price and the food was exquisite. I loved everything I tried. The brisket was my favorite. It had plenty of flavor and literally melted in your mouth. The Mac n cheese tasted just like my grandma used to make. The ribs were well seasoned and tender without being overpowered by the BBQ sauce. The chicken was juicy and tender as well. I fell in love with the jalapeño ranch dipping sauce which paired well with the perfectly cooked golden brown onion rings. You have to try the cornbread with the honey butter! It was delicious. I'd say, I hit the Jack pot at The Rustic Barrel. This just became my new favorite spot. I will 100% come back and recommend this place to all of my friends.
