A nice place to stop while cruising Big Sur. Several beers on tap, I tried the Hazy. Slight views of the mountains while eating upstairs in the open air dining area. The chicken quesadilla was not good. The chicken was cut in large slices making it difficult to eat. They would be better off using stewed or pulled chicken for this menu item. You order your food and booze from the friendly bartender, get a number and they deliver your food. No fuss dining.
Nice pub to grab some food and beer. The back patio is nice and big! My gripe is that the food took really long to come out. 40 minutes. And had we known it would take that long we would have just grabbed food at the deli that's connected to the tap house. I wish the guy told us how long it would take. But I will say we came right at lunchtime so maybe the kitchen was overwhelmed. But it was a Monday, not the weekend! My curly fries were served cold but I had no time to send it back, I was so hungry. Also my wife got sick and vomited all night from the chicken quesadilla.
Great for lunch! We visited Big Sur Taphouse to grab a bite to eat between hikes. The interior was small and cozy, with the ambiance of a dive bar. There was a football game on so there were loud eruptions of cheering every few minutes. We snagged a booth in the corner and went up to order at the bar. I chose the French Dip Sandwich (specials menu) and my friend opted for the Chicken Taphouse Tacos. Service was friendly and quick. My French Dip Sandwich was absolutely massive! I feel like this serving size could've fed 2-3 people. The beef was flavorful and I loved the melty cheese and au jus. I also loved the fries it came with - perfectly skinny with a nice texture. My friend said her Chicken Taphouse Tacos were also great. Would return for more!
Stopped here for a beer while visiting Big Sur and loved the vibe! Great selection of beers on tap, and the beautiful weather made the upstairs patio the perfect spot to relax.
Local small spot off the highway with plenty of tabs & standard pub fare. Inside was boisterous. We got the cider on tap, onion rings ($15.99), caprese panini ($19.99), and half dozen buffalo wings (forgot how much these were). Everything was tasty and the portions were great. Omg - the amount of fruit flies harassing our meal was laughable :') Staff are friendly, and inside is rustic - there are a few screens for watching sports.
Stopped in at this small tap house to escape the rain while road tripping down the pacific coast highway. It's quite small and intimate but everyone inside was friendly. The beer was good and cold. We ordered sliders as well and these took way too long to come out. We finally got up to investigate what was taking so long and found them sitting on a counter. By the time we found them, they were already cold. The flavor was good but I'm sure they would've been much better served warm.
Best restaurant I went to in Big Sur (and I went to Sierra Mar too lol). Dive bar vibes, but it was fantastic. Staff were friendly, service was great/fast, but the food was the standout 10/10! Hot wings: I'm a wing snob (been going to Wings n Things for 30 years IYKYK), and these were some of the best I've ever had. 10/10 Big Booty Burger: Wife said it was one of the best burgers she's ever had! 10/10
WiFi service is non-existent out on Hwy 1, so looking up spots saved is nearly impossible unless you do it old school and write things down, which I did not do in advance of our trip. We hiked a killer hike in Julia Pfeiffer state park and meandered our way back to our resting spot. On our ramblings we landed here for a bite and drink. It wasn't until after the fact I realized I had saved this spot when trip planning and boy did it deliver!! Service was friendly and warm. They have WiFi which is a luxury around the area, lol. The food was FANTASTIC! So many gluten free options I didn't know what to do with myself! Burgers, panini, tacos, nachos! They don't do gluten free pizza but whatever, everything was so plentiful in options it's not like you'll starve here if gluten free. They do make house-made queso, which is always a solid option if done well, in my humble opinion. We landed on the nachos with carne asada and some drinks. It was delicious! The nachos have pickled jalapeños and red onions to add pop to the nachos which are fresh made chips, the queso, truly a delicious bite! And the place is overall such a vibe! We absolutely loved it. It was the perfect spot to wind down and relax after 2000' of climbing up the highway. The back patio has plentiful seating including sun loving spots as well as shady options. Fun decor, fire lamps for when it's cold. I can see live music here being awesome! It's connected to a deli, merch options for purchase, truly a local gem. We loved every second of this spot and wish it was closer to make it happen on the regular. We'd highly recommend if around the area! Delicious food, great service, plenty of room to relax and enjoy, great line up for drinks, and friendly service all at reasonable prices. Chefs kiss!

What a cool space! Honestly the upstairs outdoor patio has to be one of the coolest places for an unexpected quick stop into a taphouse for lunch and a drink after beach day.
Five stars for atmosphere and food! Granted, you've got gotta be comfortable with a little grunge. I likened it to Boy Scout camping. . Food- all the thumbs up. Sandwiches are very shareable, meaning they're huge. I love their daily specials- never had a miss with a special. We always enjoy the cheesesteak, fish & chips, & Reuben. I was really digging the buffalo chicken sliders that were a special. Shrimp Po Boy was fun as well. Fries and onion rings are always tasty and plentiful. The drive there from up north is worth the trip!

Holy shit this place was good and the beer was cold and tasted so fresh. We had the Mai Tai from Alvarado (can never go wrong with Alvarado) and I had the BLAST with sub French fries and my hubby had the Grande Nachos, BOMB. Honestly it was so good and was not greasy and the portions are huge! read more

Food is always amazing here at Taphouse, everytime we go to bigsur Taphouse is our choice. They got tacos, pizza on Thursdays. They have a nice patio if you dont want the crowd and tv on site. Servers are always attentive to get your orders. You're on the mountains so if you dont want wilderness this area is not for you. I've been here so many times and this is my to go place. They have a mini grocery stuff and souvenirs. read more

My group and I needed a quick snack with good shareable plates so we opted to stop by the Big Sur Taphouse. They had plenty of appetizers good to share for group settings. We ordered at the counter and was given a number to sit outside. I would highly recommend sitting at the outdoor patio which is so secluded and cutely decorated! My group loved the fries seasoning with the aioli and nachos were decent too! read more

Ca Hw 1 opened yesterday!!! So we celebrated by eating at Big Sur Taproom. Fabulous! I had the BLAST (bacon, lettuce, avacado, sourdough and tomato. So appropriate for this occasion since it brings together San Francisco sourdough and So Cal avacado! Great selection of beers. Great ambiance and service. read more

Great food, great beer and great scenery! Keep your eyes peeled when driving down highway 1 as this place is easily to miss but is an absolute miss! The food is grade A and the view is very relaxing. Also, on top of it all, the staff is great and deserve all the Big Sur business! read more
Wow! First time here and yeah I am coming back. The food was amazing and they had Pliny the Younger on tap (though probably gone as I post this). The lunch meal, I ordered was the Shrimp Po Boy (special for Mardi Gras) and it was loaded and about a 8 inches long and filled with shrimp, tomatoes, lettuce and a secret hot sauce. Order at the bar and grab a seat indoor or on their back patio. Relaxed atmosphere for lunch. Outdoor patio has several wooden benches and heaters and a couple two top chairs. The covered patio area has a TV for those sports fans. The service was great. The food came out quickly and they brought it to our table in the upper patio area. I can't wait to come back to try the rest the menu and all the beers on tap. read more

We are in Carmel Valley. Been raining for days and hubby has never been. We ventured out even though it said the road was closed. Wooo hoooo road was open and they had power here. THIS was worth the drive and slight anxiety with all the wetness of the mountains. This is by far the best tacos we've had. Even hubby got in on the yelp and gave review. Best spot in Big Sur? This place is a gem. First of all big shout out to anyone who has Pliny The Elder on tap. Especially at this remote a location. I had eaten already so I didn't try the food but I wished I hadn't eaten before when I saw what was coming out if the kitchen! Great looking sandwiches with shaved deli meats, large orders of good looking nachos. The vibe is great. When you walk in its like an old tavern which is great in its own right but the place to be is the upstairs open air patio. Pics included. Definitely will be back here and next time with an appetite. read more
Alright! Been here enough times to write review. Upon walking in its very localized spot. But don't let that worry you. The vibe is mellow and welcoming. Every time I've been here I've never had a bad experience. Always been treated with respect and professionalism. So let's move onto the food and drinks. There's always. Great selection of beer on tap. And it isn't to expensive here either. Great spot for some beers if that's all you're looking for. They also have TV and wifi. Something that is a rarity in Big Sur. You don't really come here to watch TV of use the internet. In my opinion it kills the Big Sur vibe and experience. But to each their own. The food. So their food has changed almost every time I've been here each year. Is that a bad thing? No. I like how the menu stays new and different. The only part I was upset about is how their fish tacos have changed. They were AMAZING. They're a bit of a different style now but STILL worth getting. The calamari sandwich? Holy jesus it's HUGE. It's enough food for a whole family lol. The sandwich would easily feed 3. Their fries are perfect and fresh that come with it to. Also tried their popcorn shrimp. Excellent shrimp seasoned very well. All in all I really can't say anything bad about this place. The only reason I even gave it 4 stars is because I really miss the original fish tacos. They were something I always came back for. But now they're a different s style. So I'll have to find a new go to on the menu. Overall. I would highly recommend this place. Do you love scenic drives? Are you hungry? Could you use a beer? Kill 3 birds with 1 stone and head to Big Sur Taphouse. The only way to get to it is to drive down a beautiful chunk of the California coast and upon your arrival you'll be greeted with better than average bar food and a variety of beer. (Don't drink and drive). The place is super casual and has a variety of seating both indoors and out. The patio out back bumps right up against a mountain and has nice tree cover for some shade and plenty of space for groups. The food is better than you'd expect in a place with such a captive audience given that there isn't a wide selection of restaurants in the area. The prices are reasonable and the service is quick and friendly. If you're here, you're probably stopping anyway because there aren't many businesses in the area and you probably want to stretch your legs, so go ahead and grab a bite while you're at it. read more
