Had them make me a huge ham, turkey, Roast beef and Swiss cheese sammich on a French roll and it was delicious. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had, especially on the road.

This was a fantastic sandwich. I've had many sandwiches in my lifetime, and this one is certainly in the top ten. They made this sandwich super quick, and I got to take a look around at their other items. They had these super awesome Star Wars stickers that were themed after well known alcohol brands like White Claws and what not. Great place.

Really nice stop in Big Sur! The store has lots of fun options--from instant ramen to baked goods--and I even saw them cutting deli meats fresh, which was a good sign. We grabbed a sandwich and were extremely satisfied. Everything tasted fresh, the sandwich was fully loaded, and the bread was fantastic--it seemed like it had a thin layer of cheese or something savory baked right onto it. The lemon pound cake was another highlight: super moist, dense, and lemony, with a perfect sugary crust. Prices are very reasonable, especially for being in Big Sur. Definitely worth a stop!

Nice deli next to Big Sur post office. Deli shops on side roads are the best. No need for a fancy restaurant or server. I always get corned beef and Rueben sandwiches. It was a fantastic sandwich. Pulled down my tail gate and ate it there. Fresh air perfect weather. Gentleman behind the counter very friendly.

    Ruben on sourdough

Okay let me just say that this is the most chaotic little spot. The food was good and compared to the local competition, the prices are pretty good. I got the Ruben and a couple other premade cold sandwiches that everyone liked. The Ruben I got on sourdough, and it was delicious. It came with coleslaw which was good and I don't like many coleslaws. Would definitely recommend. If this was just about food the score would be higher. But jeez... the parking lot is insane with fast traffic and full parking and not to mention there was one singular bathroom for (I think) 3 businesses. I actually had to do some plunging so that was an added experience.

If you want a sandwich this is the place to go. Did not disappoint. I was shocked to see how many other things they were making in this place too. I would try a breakfast burrito next time.

I wanna preface by saying I never give 1 star reviews, especially to small businesses. This place is a complete scam with the rudest employees I've ever encountered. I stopped by to grab a sandwich. There were some pre made Italian sandwiches in the display case, and I asked them to make one fresh because I didn't want onions. The worker rudely says "this is fresh" and didn't want to make a new one. I politely explained I don't want onions on mine (and I wasn't trying to accuse them of selling sandwiches that weren't fresh). and then he turned to the other employees and started talking shit directly in front of me. my friend with me understood everything. Then he walks off rudely and another worker takes over the order and gives me attitude for no reason. The Italian sandwich is 13.99. All the ingredients are listed on the sticker. The worker proceeds to charge me for a custom sandwich for 13.99 plus like $15 worth of "add-ons" for each and every ingredient even though I didn't get anything extra than what the Italian sandwich already comes with. She charged for lettuce, tomato, peppers, a bread roll, cheese, charged me double meat twice (even though I never got double meat). The sandwich more than doubled in price... all because I asked for a sandwich with one LESS ingredient. Appalling. I didn't realize until we were long gone and looked at the receipt. I will absolutely be disputing this charge with my bank and not recommending this place to anyone. What a joke. I could not believe they treated a customer in this way.

Stopped here with my boyfriend for a casual lunch in Big Sur. Got the steak sandwich and pastrami sandwich... the steak wasn't bad (just a little bland) but omg the pastrami sandwich was surprisingly sooo good. They have a cute outdoor patio area that is nice to eat in and a good beer selection

This yummy sandwich, with its cute label was a delicious treat to eat on the beach.

Big Sur Deli made a pretty good sandwich. In Big Sur, there are not too many choices, but the deli was perfect for good hiking food. Their sandwich stickers made the sandwiches even more fun.

We visited Big Sur so many times and drove by the Big Sur Deli so many times it never really occurred for us to stop by and check it out. We wanted to mail a postcard out one day and stopped off at the USPS right next door. We poked our head into the Big Sur Deli and saw a line of sandwiched premade and ready. At that time we told ourselves the next time we visited Big Sur we would stop by and grab a sandwich or two, so we did. We picked up the Big Sur Hipster and Up In Smoke. Both are great option if you need a bite for much or pack something with you on the trail. I dont know if it was the nature or just being out camping but those sandwiches tasted amazing. The flavors were kind of what you expected based on the description but it was just good. This shop also sold many other things, anything from premade meals to basic necessities to get you through a weekend of camping. We saw stickers, postcards, candles and snacks/food. This was a really neat place to stop off and get a quick lunch. I recommend anybody starting their trail give the sandwiches from Big Sur Deli a try. Also browse around their shop a bit and see if you need to pick anything up.

If you're headed up the PCH and you start to get hungry, this place is a must-visit. They've got a menu to suit anyone, a good selection of convenience items that you may need, souvenirs, t-shirts, etc all under one roof and they're connected to Big Sur Taphouse just in case you want to sit down and dine or grab a drink. The place has a rustic sort of vibe, and the sandwiches from the deli are huge. Prices are right, and the people are friendly. Would definitely return.

But the food was abysmal. We ordered the ambrosia burger, the French dip sandwich, and basket of fries. Everything was completely dry and devoid of flavor. The fries were so dry the only way to make them tasty was to add the hot pepper sauce (which I'm happy to have discovered). But seriously. Chick Fil A is better lol. We heard a waitress tell another guest about how flavorful the ambrosia burger sandwich is and were chuckling to ourselves like, what flavor?? The chickpea and garbanzo bean salad was good. Cole slaw tasted like it was from a container. Mai Tai IPA was good. Service was mediocre and very dependent on what host you get. Our server couldn't be bothered to even get us waters. All in all, do not recommend coming here for the food. Definitely a tourist trap.

Phenomenal dining experience…read more Eating here is an integral experience of staying at Alila. They serve a brunch menu (for breakfast and lunch) as well as dinner. All food and non-alcoholic drinks are included with your stay (with a 1 entree limit for dinner). Over the course of our stay here, we tried the majority of the menu. Most of the food was top notch with the highlights being: *Moroccan Shakshuka - Comes out pipping hot in a mini cast iron pan. The spicy kick is infused within the eggs and peppers. Pairs perfectly with the toasted pita *Porchetta Sandwich - The pork was so rich and juicy and the crusty roll soaked up all the juices *Smoked San Marzano Bisque - The tomato flavor is very concentrated and infused with a pleasant smoke. A touch of creme makes it perfect. *Salt Spring Mussels - The fresh mussels were very tender and paired well with their spicy, smokey sausage. *La Bistecca - Medium-rare filet with roasted onions and chimichurri. Can't go wrong here. Areas for improvement: Their pizza crust is a tad thick and too floury for my taste. Their squid ink pasta is also too thick and chewy. A note about service: On the first night, I ordered their signature Marine Layer drink which has a bubble with Lavender smoke in it. Their machine malfunctioned, resulting in no smoke. I spoke to the manager about it and he personally rectified the issue for the second night and provided two complimentary drinks. This is an example of stellar service. Kudos to the staff for their commitment to a quality experience. Ambiance: The view is simply unbeatable. Ask for a table on the far edge near the water. You get a landscape view of the ocean and the adjacent hills. At sunset, the view is bathed in orange. PSA: The dinner reservations for the good times fill up rather quickly. Ask the concierge to book for you as soon as your book the hotel!

We got lucky and seated at the terrace on this misty weekday evening. There's a NY strip off menu which was perfect. It had chimichurri, trumpet mushrooms, whole grilled onions, and mushroom sauce. My husband doesn't even like mushrooms but he enjoyed this entree. The halibut was so delicious. The flavors and texture was everything. High quality fresh ingredients. The citrus butte black was incredible. Even the guy seated at another table behind me said that he was doing everything not to lick the plate. I assume he was talking about this dish. Lol. The view was good but foggy, the food was great, although I would have loved if the restaurant provided something special or any little thing to make it memorable for celebrating our milestone here.

I knew that going in. It was still starker than I expected. Start with the property. When that is the view off your deck, why go anywhere else? Stunning doesn't cover it. We hiked much of the grounds and every turn delivered something new. The kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. Then the restaurant. Everything was perfect -- service, quality, execution. Much of the food sourced on property or from the surrounding community. My wife declared the salad the best she'd ever had. High praise for a salad. High praise, full stop. Special shout out to our server Yasmany and bartender Thomas -- both exceptional. What struck me most was how effortless the entire staff made it look. These are people who deal with guests from around the world, all arriving with high expectations of a high-end experience. And yet nothing felt forced. Nobody appeared to be trying to impress us. It was just perfect service, perfectly delivered. That's the rarest thing in hospitality. Highlight of the trip. Hands down. And I suspect, never to be repeated.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION -- IT MAY SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS…read more If you are considering booking an ocean-view room at Post Ranch Inn between May, June, July, or August, I strongly encourage you to do extensive research about Big Sur's seasonal coastal fog before spending your money. Based on our experience, I would never book an ocean-view room during these months again. We paid nearly $10,000 for two nights in one of the resort's premium ocean-view accommodations because the breathtaking ocean views shown throughout their website were the main reason we chose this property. Unfortunately, during our entire stay, the ocean view was completely hidden by dense fog. We never saw the spectacular view that was advertised and pictured online. What disappointed us most was the lack of transparency. The website showcases beautiful, clear ocean views but does not adequately prepare guests for the possibility that the view may be completely obstructed for an entire stay during certain times of the year. If guests are paying thousands of dollars specifically for an ocean-view room, they deserve clear information about the seasonal risk of persistent coastal fog so they can make an informed decision. Throughout our stay, we repeatedly asked staff whether the fog would clear. We were consistently told that it would likely clear within a few hours. Unfortunately, that never happened. The fog remained throughout our stay, and we never got to enjoy the ocean view we paid a premium for. What made this even more frustrating was that, after repeatedly being told by multiple staff members that the fog would clear soon, one employee later told us that they were not supposed to tell guests that the weather was expected to remain the same for several days and that these foggy conditions are common during this time of year. According to that employee, this type of weather often persists throughout much of the summer season. I cannot independently verify that statement, but if that information was accurate, it raises serious concerns about transparency. Guests spending thousands of dollars for an ocean-view room deserve honest information about the likelihood of actually seeing the ocean during their stay. The room itself also had maintenance issues. The bar sink was clogged, and the shower valve/faucet was loose and repeatedly fell while being used. We reported both problems, but neither was repaired during our stay. Staff apologized, but no one came to address the issues. For a property charging close to $5,000 per night, I expected much better communication, transparency, maintenance, and overall value. I fully understand that the weather is beyond the hotel's control. However, what is within their control is how honestly they communicate the risk of seasonal fog to potential guests. Had we known there was a realistic possibility of spending our entire stay looking at a wall of fog instead of the Pacific Ocean, we would have chosen different travel dates, a different room category, or a different destination altogether. The property itself is beautiful, but based on our experience, the value did not come close to justifying the cost. If an ocean view is important to you, think very carefully before booking an ocean-view room during the late spring and summer months.
