Unfortunately for us, Post Ranch Inn was one of our first stops on an eight-day coastal road trip. Unfortunate because they set a standard no other property or restaurant was going to match. I knew that going in. It was still starker than I expected. Start with the property. When that is the view off your deck, why go anywhere else? Stunning doesn't cover it. We hiked much of the grounds and every turn delivered something new. The kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. Then the restaurant. Everything was perfect -- service, quality, execution. Much of the food sourced on property or from the surrounding community. My wife declared the salad the best she'd ever had. High praise for a salad. High praise, full stop. Special shout out to our server Yasmany and bartender Thomas -- both exceptional. What struck me most was how effortless the entire staff made it look. These are people who deal with guests from around the world, all arriving with high expectations of a high-end experience. And yet nothing felt forced. Nobody appeared to be trying to impress us. It was just perfect service, perfectly delivered. That's the rarest thing in hospitality. Highlight of the trip. Hands down. PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION -- IT MAY SAVE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. If you are considering booking an ocean-view room at Post Ranch Inn between May, June, July, or August, I strongly encourage you to do extensive research about Big Sur's seasonal coastal fog before spending your money. Based on our experience, I would never book an ocean-view room during these months again. We paid nearly $10,000 for two nights in one of the resort's premium ocean-view accommodations because the breathtaking ocean views shown throughout their website were the main reason we chose this property. Unfortunately, during our entire stay, the ocean view was completely hidden by dense fog. We never saw the spectacular view that was advertised and pictured online. What disappointed us most was the lack of transparency. The website showcases beautiful, clear ocean views but does not adequately prepare guests for the possibility that the view may be completely obstructed for an entire stay during certain times of the year. If guests are paying thousands of dollars specifically for an ocean-view room, they deserve clear information about the seasonal risk of persistent coastal fog so they can make an informed decision. Throughout our stay, we repeatedly asked staff whether the fog would clear. We were consistently told that it would likely clear within a few hours. Unfortunately, that never happened. The fog remained throughout our stay, and we never got to enjoy the ocean view we paid a premium for. What made this even more frustrating was that, after repeatedly being told by multiple staff members that the fog would clear soon, one employee later told us that they were not supposed to tell guests that the weather was expected to remain the same for several days and that these foggy conditions are common during this time of year. According to that employee, this type of weather often persists throughout much of the summer season. I cannot independently verify that statement, but if that information was accurate, it raises serious concerns about transparency. Guests spending thousands of dollars for an ocean-view room deserve honest information about the likelihood of actually seeing the ocean during their stay. The room itself also had maintenance issues. The bar sink was clogged, and the shower valve/faucet was loose and repeatedly fell while being used. We reported both problems, but neither was repaired during our stay. Staff apologized, but no one came to address the issues. For a property charging close to $5,000 per night, I expected much better communication, transparency, maintenance, and overall value. I fully understand that the weather is beyond the hotel's control. However, what is within their control is how honestly they communicate the risk of seasonal fog to potential guests. Had we known there was a realistic possibility of spending our entire stay looking at a wall of fog instead of the Pacific Ocean, we would have chosen different travel dates, a different room category, or a different destination altogether. The property itself is beautiful, but based on our experience, the value did not come close to justifying the cost. If an ocean view is important to you, think very carefully before booking an ocean-view room during the late spring and summer months. read more

This review is for Sierra Mar restaurant at Post Ranch. Even if the food wasn't good ( it's Fantastic) people would still take 20 minutes to "oooh and wow" the views of this special spectacular setting and wouldn't care. This is an incredible place. Can you tell I like it? Wine Spectator top Award, with prices to match but frankly , who cares? You're not going there to pinch pennies. Enjoy yourselves and experience everything about the property. We had lunch today with friends celebrating a birthday. If there is a better place on California's coast I don't know where it is-- started with some Chardonnay to get things going. A lovely Roar '21 Rosalia. Devine. We were offered two menu options-one a pre-fixe for $85. App, main, dessert. A really excellent choice given the choices of fresh seafood or meat options and beautiful salad options. Additionally they offered à la carte with similar options but just different enough to entice. Several folks opted for a CA salad and then had the fish of the day put on top --I went for a special burger with a home made brioche bun , amazing fries and a Caesar salad. Haven't had a burger like that in ages. I have menu pics and interior exterior pics displaying options. Easier than me playing Stanley Tucci... I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful and professional the service is at Sierra Mar. Apologies to our server ( lovely young lady with long dark hair and a smile that says, "what can I do for you?" Not normally a fan of Prix Fix menu's, I decided to make this our stop for lunch because it seems like only two restaurants ( this one and Nepenthe) in Big Sur have restaurants that hang out over the cliffs....and if I'm wrong, please tell me because I would love to know! When we were young and lived in Carmel Nepenthe was a regular hangout both to eat and to party, but reading the reviews and talking to friends it seems like parking is problematic (it's become so famous), plus I didn't like the fact that we couldn't make a reservation. So, Post Ranch Inn it was. I arrived with low hopes for the food and high hopes for the ambiance, but they hit it out of the park on both counts! There are two choices for salads, and we got one of each. Everything is locally sourced and the salads were so incredible ( along with the bread) that we couldn't stop and leave room for the entrees! I had ordered the Smashburger, my wife the steak. They did a beautiful job boxing all of it up and I can tell you that they were incredible as well, even as leftovers. One for the books! Came here with my sister and my mom for 4 days. We stayed at the South Coast House which is their private house away from everything. My sister and I have loud laughs and we stay up late so it was perfect. The property is gated and your car is parked in the driveway so you don't have to go to the Valet to get it. There are trails that take you to the main areas so you can walk or have a driver come get you. Breakfast is complimentary and we had it delivered to the house every morning, The breakfast was good, lots to choose from and it was just the right portion. They had a yummy coconut and Turmeric smoothie that I got every morning. There are 3 pools and for sure 2 of them are open 24/7. We did use the pool during the day and night. We dined at Sierra Mar for lunch and dinner. The mushroom flat bread they have for lunch.. get it, It's so good. Everything was amazing, from the view to the food. The staff at Post Ranch Inn are great. Shout out to Juan, who is one of the drivers. He was super personable, funny and had the best energy. We were always excited to get him as the driver. Post Ranch Inn is a special place and I hope to return. The property is so beautiful and there's a reason why this is a 3 Key Michelin property. read more

This is the first of multiple reviews I will write over the next week. My wife and I always wanted to stay here. We are well travelled and are capable of and okay with spending a lot of money on a room rate. In sort, Post Ranch In is a dump. It's dated. The staff is not well trained and do not react well to situational problems that occur. I would not recommend staying here at all. It's far too expensive and the view of the Pacific Ocean is where all of the cost is baked in as the food is marginal, ambience could be great but they need to spend $$ to renovate the look entirely. Last, and this is a preview of my next review, our room was filled with ants and we didnt realize it until the morning after we arrived and the bed were were sleeping in was full of them! TLDR: Tim Lee, the general manager of Post Ranch Inn, handled a serious issue with alarming unprofessionalism. Instead of taking accountability for his team's clear mistakes, he deflected blame, minimized my concerns, and even laughed while I was explaining the damage done to my property. His lack of leadership and failure to train staff to handle guest issues is unacceptable. The insurance adjuster, Steve Stanfield--who also owns Westlake Risk, the resort's insurance provider--was equally dismissive. Neither PRI nor their insurance company is BBB accredited. Post Ranch Inn was my dream location for a future wedding due to their intimate wedding ceremonies. When my birthday and our ten-year anniversary aligned in April 2025, it felt like the perfect occasion to celebrate--and preview the resort as a potential wedding venue. My fiancé booked the Coast House. We even paid extra for a potential upgrade and a bottle of champagne. We arrived early and were greeted warmly by the valet and front desk. It felt magical--at first. RED FLAG #1: No Mention of the Upgrade Despite paying for an upgrade, the receptionist never acknowledged it or offered options until I brought it up. RED FLAG #2: Misleading Photos The pristine photos online hide the truth: neglected landscaping, dead shrubs, and patchy areas that are clearly not meant to be photographed. Not only in the meditation pool, but also at Sierra Mar. Our room had cobwebs... Dinner with a sunset view was next. The ambiance of the Michelin guide restaurant was disappointing. I was definitely overdressed; the attire is casual. The sample menu didn't match what was available. We were warned, but I did not think it would deviate so much. We changed our meal and ordered the guinea hen and porkchop. The guinea hen was dry, and while I appreciated the ssamjang in the pork dish, the kimchi was Americanized. We returned to our room... and that's when everything changed. The Incident I had brought five dresses--three Retrofête, one Alice & Olivia, and one Fleur du Mal--all brand new, recently tailored, and never worn. I chose a sequin dress for dinner and left the others neatly placed on a chair near the bathtub. When we came back, two wet, dirty rags--the kind used by cleaning staff--were sitting on top of my new dresses. My toiletry bag was also soaked. I immediately texted the staff--no response. My fiancé went to the front desk. Eventually, the receptionist texted instructions. I followed them. The lighting in the room was poor (especially difficult for someone with vision issues), so I placed the dress in my garment bag for a specialist to inspect later. The staff seemed unsure of how to handle the situation. Just vague instructions and no resolution. They refunded the stay, and we left the property at 11 PM that night--on my birthday and anniversary. Specialist Confirms Damage My specialist--trusted by high-end clients and A-list celebrities--found stains, white specks, and a lingering odor that indicated microbial growth from the damp rags. She noted the dresses had been compromised. She offered to speak to the resort on my behalf. They refused. Tim Lee's Response: Condescending and Dismissive; Unprofessional. Tim Lee, the General Manager of PRI, called me with D.J., the Director of Guest Relations. I was placed on speakerphone. I thanked Tim for the letter he wrote and was kind at first. But once his tone was condescending, my approach changed immediately. Tim laughed. He said I could "keep the rags forever"--a sarcastic and completely tone-deaf remark. There was zero ownership of what happened. No apology for the untrained staff. No acknowledgment of how damaging this was for me. Just smug, corporate indifference. He passed me off to their insurance company--Westlake Risk. Steve Stanfield, the owner and adjuster at Westlake Risk (also not BBB accredited), was worse. From the start, he suggested I was trying to commit insurance fraud. He constantly twisted the facts of what happened, despite not being present and not understanding fabric care. When I sent a report from the specialist, he asked if the white specks were bleach. No one had mentioned bleach before. That comment exposed what might've really caused the damage. The Resolution? They offered $150 for dry cleaning--on a dress valued over $800. But if the damage is from bleach or microbial contamination, dry cleaning won't fix it. They wanted me to ship the dress to them. I refused. Given how they treated me throughout, I wasn't about to trust them with an expensive piece. I suggested sending a qualified evaluator to my location instead--they declined. Reality of this: A room costs ~$3,000 per night. The dress ruined is ~$820 My rent in Larchmont Village ~$2.2k per month My dresses aren't just outfits. They are part of how I celebrate and express myself. And I promise you--I deliver. Every. Single. Time. And Post Ranch Inn failed to deliver. read more

12 years after writing my first review I finally made it back for the two night stay I had hoped to return for with my then boyfriend, now husband. We stayed two nights to celebrate my birthday. The service at Post Ranch Inn was warm with staff who were happy to ensure you have a relaxing stay. The property is a true escape. It's serene and quiet, and you're fully surrounded by nature, as all of the rooms are nestled in the forest. The experience is truly one-of-a-kind. It's the kind of place where time slows down, and you can disconnect for just for a few days. There few places that have a setting like Post Ranch. Given the extremely high price point, there is room for improvement. We dined on property for the two nights we were there. The food was good but not 5-stars. Both nights we either encountered overcooked filet mignon or coover cooked fish. I found the menu to lack creativity and felt that it was formulaic like what you would find at an all-inclusive style resort, but Post Ranch is not all inclusive. Breakfast and lunch were good. We were disappointed that dining at the pool came with an additional delivery fee for the food, which quite frankly is tacky, when you're already paying through the nose as a hotel guest. It should just be built into the overnight fees. The rooms are fully stocked with complimentary water and snacks, which is really nice and can be restocked throughout your stay. My recommendation would be for them to contact guests prior to arrival what their preferences are (ie. are they dairy free, etc) and stock the fridge accordingly. I think customizing and personalizing that part of the experience would create more of a 5-star experience. The spa as also has room for improvement. It's very small but the treatment rooms are well appointed and have beautiful views. We had a couples massage but we both had vastly different experiences. My masseuse was more intuitive and gentle and my husband reported that his massage was one of the worst he's ever had. I worked in a spa many years ago and a key thing missing here was having the massage therapists ask each of us what we were looking for or at least share some of their options or style with us. I'm very vocal and always tell the masseuse what I like or if there are any pain points, etc. However, this is something the therapist should take the lead on to ensure they provide a comfortable and satisfactory experience. Lastly, the beds should come equipped with heated pads. I was cold the entire time. If the beds had heaters, then they could be customized individually, versus, having to compromise on a room temp for two people. The property is magical. We thoroughly enjoyed our walks on their trails, soaking in the infinity hot tub, and taking in the fresh Big Sur air. We unfortunately had fog the entire we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the ocean view from our room. It was gorgeous nonetheless. I do think that the folks at Post Ranch aim to provide the best service they can and I not regrets about splurging on this experience. read more

This will be a lengthy review, but worth it to read. THE GOOD: The location of the house we stayed in was just amazing. We stayed in one of the larger houses and I have to say that the view from every single room was jaw-dropping. The ocean is right there for you to oooohhhh and ahhhh at (when you could see it - keep in mind when you go as the marine layer didn't ever burn off for us 3 out of the 4 days we were there...thank heavens it did for one day). While you can't hear the ocean, you can see it (again, when visible) no matter what room of the house you are in. The customer service was extremely first class here. Every single employee was just A+++ in friendliness and they all seemed to want to help you in any way possible (except for one - will explain below). Special occasion - we were there celebrating and they welcomed us with a beautiful bottle of champagne and white wine. Very nice and classy. Privacy - Because we were in one of the larger houses - we had incredible privacy and we never heard a single other person which we loved and were looking for. We wanted peace and quiet in this location and we got it. THINGS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: Updating needed - While the house we stayed in was nice, it definitely needs some major updating. While I understand that this hotel should NOT be a modern one at all due to the location and staying to their history, there was just a very outdatedness to it. I get that it should be "rustic and charming" to keep with Big Sur location, I feel like there could definitely be upgrades to bring it a bit more into the 21st century. Food - I wish they would have had way more food choices at their one and only restaurant. For lunch and dinner, it's more of a Prix Fixe menu - but they do let you order a la carte. However, if you are at all a picky eater (like me) or you like a variety of food to choose from, this isn't really an option here. I understand that this is much more of a luxury property, so people most likely don't need a huge variety - but I was very surprised to find that the menu was very small. Other 5 star properties that I've stayed at before have not only larger menus - but they are really accommodating if you want to order something easy that's not on the menu. This wasn't an option here sadly. Room Service - This is the area that REALLY needs a lot of work and I mean a LOT of work. We had all of our breakfasts delivered via room service (it's what we like to do at luxury properties) and every single time, the food was delivered cold or not as ordered. While we did have access to a microwave in the room to heat something up - we aren't paying $$$$ to have to heat up eggs or French toast. The BIGGEST offense was when we decided to have a special dinner delivered to our room and the steak was extremely not done to specifications (we asked for medium rare and it was rare rare rare!). They eventually came and got it from us to recook and it took another 45 minutes just to get dinner again. Meanwhile, the other dinner entree just sat there and got cold. The only person that wasn't nice there was the restaurant manager - she was PISSED that the steak had to be recooked and when she delivered it to us - she was not going to win any "kind awards" that night. While she did state that the restaurant was "busy and like a zoo", that doesn't mean that we had to sit down to finally eat 2 hours from the time we ordered (keep in mind the property only has 39 rooms and a few houses...so it's not hundreds like a large hotel). This put a huge damper on what should have been a special evening for us. The "hot tub" - We saw that we were going to have our own personal hot tub and we were excited by that. However, the water is just warm at best and no jets (I was hoping for this). When we asked if the water temperature could go up, we were told that it was at its maximum temperature and I promise you - it was barely warm. It should have been called the "tepid tub". BOTTOM LINE: Would I recommend this place? Yes - do your research read more

The food, service and view is the best in big sur area. The price is high, however it is cheaper than most 1 star Michelin restaurants while food/service is better than half of 1 star Michelin restaurants I have experienced, and making reservation is kind of easy. We did it in weekends just a few minutes decided to go to here. Most Michelin restaurants are full of booking within 1 month so this one can be an alternative if you are looking for a good restaurant for special event. read more

It is hard for us to believe it has been a week since we returned from the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur ~ because the magic still remains. This has been our special place since 1994 when I proposed, then honeymooned and returned for many a special occasion over these past years. We have been fortunate to have stayed at every style of their unique accommodations from tree houses, to coast houses to ocean houses and their peaceful Pacific Suites with fireplace and private soaking tubs all with spectacular and secluded views. We appreciated the style of wood, stone, glass and iron by the late renowned Big Sur architect Mickey Muennig. Since we are getting up there in years, so appreciated after a long drive straight from Los Angeles was seeing so many familiar and new smiling and welcoming faces ~ DJ, Jeff, Steve, Sergio, Claire, Chin and Jose who unloaded our luggage and drove us up to the same Suite we enjoyed for my wife's 70th birthday last year. We realize this is a reflection starting from the top, and under the leadership of Tim Lee, their enthusiastic, warm and very efficient new GM (formerly of the Halekulani) they have adroitly adapted well to all the covid protocols and environmental challenges over these recent years including mudslides and fires. There were special touches awaiting us, as always, along with the relaxing music. The wi-fi has been improved, but we always choose to enjoy being disconnected in a good way with no TV or distractions. Any minor issues were handled promptly and efficiently, with Martin their head of maintenance coordinating with Tim to make sure we were well taken care of. Then there is the Sierra Mar restaurant with drop dead gorgeous views that are unparalleled. The complimentary breakfast buffet with its exquisite frittatas is gone due to covid, but the breakfast selections are first rate. Tony was our affable server both mornings. There is a new Executive Chef Hoon Kang who is working under Chef Agustin (both formerly of Madera). Dinners are prix fixe, and our Friday dinner was just okay. We were so tired, but they were so kind in making sure we had a birthday dessert (with candle) to bring back to our room ~ a very nice touch. The dinner offerings on Saturday were excellent. After having a late lunch at our favorite Nepenthe down the road, with their fabulous Ambrosia burger, salad and fries with incredible wines and beers, they let us order a la carte ~ much appreciated. To wake up and start the wood burning fireplace, then having three deer pause right outside our lanai are truly special moments. Steve helped us with our efficient checkout, and we had our usual sentimental checkout with our familiar staff. Tim was there to give us his Aloha, and off we went relaxed and invigorated. I always hear "the Post Ranch Inn seems so expensive." Yes, but the mystical, magical memories are Priceless. We so look forward to our next stay. read more

We spent three nights at the Post Ranch Inn to celebrate my husband Matt B.'s 40th birthday. It was an amazing experience: our first trip away from our two kids, at the nicest hotel we've ever visited. I booked one of the Cliff House rooms almost four months in advance. If you want Cliff House (or really, any specific room), I'd recommend planning ahead, as they do book out. It's also worth calling to make your reservation. I asked the reservationist if there were any promotions floating around, and she said there weren't, but that I could get the returning guest discount, which wasn't nothing. I had a few more communications with the Post Ranch team before our stay, and they were consistently pleasant and responsive. I was bringing a pump and asked if I could get freezer access, and there was a whole email chain with the restaurant so everything was arranged before we arrived. It turned out we didn't even need to use the restaurant freezer, as the staff put a mini-fridge in our room with a super cold setting that froze my milk. I really can't say enough about the service at this hotel. Every single person we interacted with was both warm and professional. The front desk staff greeted us with margaritas in eco-friendly pouches, and we got valet service to the front door of our room, along with a full orientation on the hotel's layout and its various amenities. When we left the hotel for dinners in town, the valet staff provided the rides. Housekeeping was meticulous, the restaurant service fantastic. We had pleasant interactions with the people at the hotel store and art gallery. The staff could've been straight-up mean to us, though, and I think we still would've enjoyed our stay. The hotel is just so gorgeous and peaceful, and unlike anywhere else I've ever stayed before. It only has 40 rooms, but they're all like little houses, many of them standing alone, spread out on a lush, expansive property built into the cliffs of Big Sur. The style is unique, kind of 90s in a way that would feel dated if it weren't so flawlessly executed and maintained. Lots of glass and wood and metal, with interesting art everywhere, including in the rooms. There are some trails you can walk on the hotel grounds, and they're relaxing and well shaded, a lot of woods and meadow. We spent an afternoon wandering around and didn't run into any other people. The Cliff House was perfect. The room was huge and nicely decorated. It had a comfortable bed, a good shower, and a whole lot of quality toiletries. Everything in the room felt super fancy, from the modern sculptures to the Italian pewter tissue box (you can get some of the household items you see in your room at the hotel mercantile). There was a fireplace, a couch and coffee table, a desk that I turned into a pumping station. A fridge (and bonus fridge for my milk) that was constantly stocked with complimentary snacks and beverages, including some really good cheese and cold bottles of beer. We also got a fruit bowl and three complimentary half bottles of wine, which came in handy: one each of champagne, white, and red. The best part of the room, though, was probably the patio. We had a deck that looked right over the ocean, and it was somehow positioned so that no one could see us when we were out there, lounging in the sun. There was also a great hot tub where we soaked at all hours of the day while taking in the incredible views. We took full advantage of the hotel's many amenities. We ate at Sierra Mar several times, and the food and drink there were excellent. The Jade Pool was lovely, an infinite pool heated to over 80 degrees, with more than enough lounge chairs for guests. We got massages at the spa, a luxurious treat. I bought a T-shirt at the mercantile, and we admired the art at the gallery, including pottery by a ceramicist I really like (her name is Re Jin Lee, and it was cool to see her work in person). The only weird spot was the library, which felt dark and dated and had a random assortment of abandoned books. I gather, though, that the point of the library was not to provide books, but to house the one television on the property. I can't imagine wanting to watch TV at this hotel. We missed out on activities like the art tour and falconry and morning yoga (okay, we never would've done morning yoga) because we were too busy relaxing. We had high expectations for this vacation, and the Post Ranch Inn exceeded them in every way. It was a special, beautiful place, and I'm already fantasizing about going back again. read more

Booked this place using Platinum AE card and received a bunch of perks. Spent two nights in the Butterfly, very nice. Really cool architecture, well kept grounds, rooms are awesome. Rooms have electric shades, music, stocked fridge, fireplace, and turn down service. We went for my wife's birthday and she did the Falconry experience and said it was the best present she had ever received , and did not stop talking about it. Dinner at Sierra Mar was absolutely fantastic 5 star rating. The hikes, soaking tubs, chefs garden, were awesome. There service is impeccable, such nice people. Missing one star because of the lack of the spa. We had to go across the street to a real spa. Note to owner: invest in a spa, the money made on the services will pay for the construction loan. I had a fabulous two nights at Post Ranch recently, traveling there with my mom, my godmother and her boyfriend. The weather was not on our side the day we got there and the day we left -- the drive to Big Sur was fraught with insane winds and very heavy rain. Sadly we couldn't see the ocean from our amazing bedroom spot that first day but the next day, the weather was pure perfection! Post Ranch is such a magical property, with an incredibly friendly and hospitable staff!! Everyone that works there is deeply accommodating and kind and easy to talk with, whether it's at the restaurant or the front desk or anywhere you meet someone walking around the grounds. The treats you get in your room are yummy and healthy and the robes and towels feel so good. The Meditation Pool is such a phenomenal spot, with the most epic views and perfect temperature in the infinity pool. It's hard to stop grinning the whole time you're there, at least it was for me! Sierra Mar restaurant is under renovation so we ate down at Mickey's, what used to be a gallery, and the food was very memorable. We loved our server as well! Fellow New York roots :) The pool is such a great hang out spot and the yurt that offers yoga in the morning is also great. I led a little session for my mom and my godmother which was fun (we felt like heading down there later than the morning class offered by the Ranch). I absolutely love walking the trails and soaking up the serenity and wisdom of the Redwood groves. It's always a true gift getting to stay at Post Ranch and I hope to go back in a year or so!! read more

We stayed a few nights here to celebrate my birthday and I can honestly say this was the most incredible property and the best service I've ever had! I've never experienced such a nice welcome when arriving at a hotel, although I don't even like using the word hotel because this place is so special. The glass of champagne and a warm greeting were very appreciated! We had an upper level Pacific room and it was just gorgeous. I've attached a picture of our view. We enjoyed the Japanese steel soaking tub on the deck, the beautiful fireplace was lovely, the comfy bed, the incredible mini bar with yummy snacks and drinks (all included)...just wow. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was also wonderful. The food is fresh and organic and the view is incredible. The next day we went to another local restaurant, and I loved that they drove us there and picked us up when we were done. Amazing! We will definitely be back! I recently spent a couple of nights at Post Ranch Inn while my bf and I were making our way down the California coast. It was a last minute trip, so we ended up staying at the South Coast House, which felt kind of large for two people. However, it had ocean view and an outdoor soaking tub, so we booked it. The resort feels private and secluded. We didn't run into too many people there, except for dinner. Dinner at Sierra Mar was one of the highlights of the trip. I had the black cod for one of my courses and I still think about it sometimes. The only thing that was meh about our stay was the breakfast, which is included. I like runny eggs and ordered eggs over medium one morning and received super overcooked eggs. Not a big deal at all, and I ate around the yolk, but you wouldn't think something like that would happen at Post Ranch Inn. Overall, I loved my stay here and plan to return. Hopefully next time I'll book in advance and score the cliff house or pacific suites. read more

This is the post ranch inn. You're going to spend some $$$$. But it will be worth it. My wife and I came here for our anniversary, during covid, and it was one of the best weekends of our life. 1) minibar is included in room cost 2) grounds are phenomenal 3) all of the rooms are amazing, they let us switch and try another room midway through our stay. We didn't switch because the treehouse room was bad, we just wanted to see another room. 4) Sierra Mar food was incredible. This stay wasn't perfect, things went wrong, we waited a super long time for a firestarter package. The restaurant was closed due to rain. But all in all it was 100% worth it and I would do it again anytime. I would love to give a shout out to Catherine who did a lot to make our stay amazing. read more

This is where you go when you want to break away from everything else. The setting and serenity of the post ranch inn are not matched within the continental US. The rooms are superb. The hiking trails are perfect for those who appreciate the coastal sequoia trees. The falconry, yes I said falconry is not to be missed. We love the hot tub infinity pools and just so appreciate the views this resort has to offer. Truly a special place in the cliffs of a special place. read more

The room we stayed at was the "Little" room. Don't let the name trick you. It's called "Little" room based on the last name of the settlers from way back in the day. The view was mountain side greenery and had a perfect moon view every night! Great location as it was a very short walk to the meditation pool. Upon arrival, there was a pre-ordered bottle of champagne and strawberries already waiting. First thing I notice is how filthy the bucket was and no champagne glasses provided. Another thing I noticed was the slippers that were provided looked used. The bellman was still unloading our bags so I addressed it and he said everyday they wash them. Take note they are not brand new. From the looks of it, they did NOT look washed (see photo). Other than that, the layout of the room worked well. Bed was cozy and had well stocked amenities. I would probably suggest a cozier throw blanket for the couch. The one supplied was very thin and not big enough if you and your partner want to share one on the couch. We took advantage of some of the activities during the day with one being the forest meditation with Izzy. One should definitely check it out if you maybe want to get somewhat of an understanding of meditation and learn about the energies and calmness that the surrounding trees and fresh air brings. Very calming to the soul. We also added the 2 hour Falconry activity which was well worth the price to learn and have a hands on experience with these protected predators. Another reason why I docked a star was for the "Lexus loaners" provided to the guests. Made a reservation the night before which was confirmed with the front desk. The next day comes and we decide to stop by the office to reconfirm 30 minutes BEFORE our reserved pick up time of 1:00. Front desk confirmed and even told the model Lexus that would be provided to us. We then come back and was informed there is now no car available for us to use! What a way to kill our Valentine's Day plan! That was upsetting so we decide to go to the meditation infinite pool. It definitely calmed my soul after that situation. Heaven on Earth. Now on to the restaurant. Beautiful. Being that it was Valentines night, there was a special 5 course menu. There was no options on what you pick to eat. What they serve is what you get. Most items given was not anything I would even want to taste such as sea urchin, caviar, lamb tartare and quail. It's just not my cup of tea. I asked the server if there was a vegetarian option and she let me know it would have had to been ordered in advance. I made no big deal and just let the dishes roll in. The only thing I enjoyed was the bread. Lol. We were already locked into the $225 per person 5 course meal. Made the best of it and had fun playing with the fried quail legs with claws still attached. Quite interesting presentation. It was like I was a contestant on Fear Factor. Lol. Breakfast at the restaurant was good and had a nice selection to choose from though! Would i stay here again? Absolutely. It was a Hit in some areas and a Miss in others. -Perry read more

Absolutely one of the most luxe hotels I've ever experienced. It's hard to touch on EVERYTHING about this hotel that makes it a must-visit, but the pictures don't even do the place justice. It's romantic and secluded, with 95 acres for you to explore. You truly do not have to leave the resort to have an amazing time. The rooms have heated floors, the complimentary minibar is stocked with luxe goodies, and the people (and celebrity) watching cannot be beat. The car service is a very nice touch, and they provide rides to and from Nepenthe and other local places at your convenience. Definitely a hotel worth putting on your bucket list. read more

We booked the Post Ranch Inn's restaurant for a meal on Sunday, having eaten there in 2019. We re-booked mainly for the view -- the food was not great,[1] and the service was very haughty and slow (we waited an excessive amount of time for our table with zero apology from the staff). Anyway, on Saturday -- the day before our reservation -- we were driving through Big Sur and realised our car needed to charge urgently. The nearest charge point... Post Ranch Inn! So we pulled in, and were told, I kid you not, that they would be very happy to let us charge our car during our reservation on Sunday, but that they would not allow us onto the property before then. We asked if they would really rather us have to be towed from their driveway or the road outside, and were met by a sheepish shrug of the shoulders. Fortunately Ventana, where we've stayed before and which is not run by apparent sociopaths, is just a few minutes up the road and the cheerful, friendly staff were able to help us out. (As an aside we had lunch at their barbecue place whilst we waited for the car to charge, and it was terrific.) As you can imagine, when our reservation for Douche Ranch Inn rolled around on Sunday, we no-showed them and went to Nepenthe instead, which was great -- the food and staff don't have delusions of grandeur, the view is nearly as good, and the atmosphere is much more pleasant. From memory I would characterise the Post Ranch Inn as a luxury hotel and fine-dining experience for people who have never been to an actual luxury hotel or fine-dining restaurant. Lots of people from the American Midwest saying how nice everything is and one of those menus with staccato lists of ingredients with no helpful information about the dishes: "Breast of duck. Plums. Cherries. Jus." Wine list was decent although my god I just remembered that the sommelier came to double check that I was aware of the price of the Bordeaux Blanc I ordered. If your car has enough gas or electricity in it, drive straight past and go someplace else. (And if it doesn't, don't expect these folks to extend you the most basic of human courtesies.) [1] Read Michelin's assessment of the restaurant if you want to see someone running out of euphemistic ways to say "tries very hard but does not succeed". It's the kind of place that you go to maybe once or twice in your lifetime. We went for our anniversary and ended up sending food back, being served the wrong wine, and overall underwhelmed. The ambience and service were perfection to be sure. I hope Post Ranch can up their game soon. read more

I will not stay or eat lunch/dinner at Post Ranch. I guess new owners took over. It is a different place. I made reservations at Sierra Mar for lunch and arrived 40 minutes early. The guard would not let me in. I told him I understand the restaurant wasn't open until twelve and would wait in the parking lot. I had him contact his supervisor. He still wouldn't let me in. He had me park outside, before the kiosk, and wait in the hot sun. I have not been treated this bad in years. Talk about discrimination. They really don't want non residing guests eating at their restaurant. I guess they want to keep this place "exclusive". At this rate they will meet their exclusivity goal and have no customers.
