What a little gems this is for Big sur Area, it is the same caliber as Sierra Mar at Post Ranch. Beautifully decorated with dimlite ambiance. The cocktails and they make a mean martini, one of the best really. From.the hostest to all the staff are so friendly and the resolution to the minor issue we had was generous in their part. The Bread was one of the best, we ended up ordered a second round. The ingredients were farm fresh and effort to have the food delicate and bright and well balance was there with the exception of the Trout. The red cabbage was extra salty for all of us so we didn't touch the food. We shared the feedback just so chef can lighten a salt a bit for the next guests. They offer to refried the food but we were done with the meal. They took care of our first round of drinks, we asked to pay for it but they refused. So appreciate the effort but truly the feedback was for chef to make adjustments. We end up paying for the cocktails in tip as we know how hard for small business to survive in this economy. All in all we had a wonderful evening despite of the hiccup with the fish and will be back for new menu options when the season changed.

The duck might've been the best thing I've eaten in a very long time. I enjoyed the grilled oysters, heirloom rice (usually my go-to), dry aged duck, and the sticky toffee pudding. I have no complaints. Thank you! c:

We had an incredible meal last night at Solstice. I'd never been - If you live in Carmel, Monterey, the Highlands, PG, or Big Sur or are visiting the area, and you haven't been here yet, it's worth the (gorgeous) drive! One of the best restaurants on the coast, I'd say. For starters, the ambience and cuisine is unparalleled. Rustic, natural wood, an epic wood plank full bar - and casually cool interior and outdoor seating overlooking the forest with lanterns swaying in the breeze- And all with an elevated focus on local, sustainable and organic ingredients (and wines). The menu changes once in a while, and they have the cutest coffee shop with lunches and wine to go, should you be trekking around if sure during the day. I'm a Carmel local now by way of NYC, and I've been seeking a restaurant that has this rare blend of conscious, well-crafted, chef-driven food - that's straightforward enough that you actually want to eat it, in an environment that feels local and worldly (and otherworldly) all at the same time. Best sourdough bread I've ever had, from their 160 year old starter. An avocado that's cold-smoked with a divine seed blend and flaxseed cracker that melts in your mouth. Black cod - so easy to get wrong but here it's perfect, including a corn wrap and foraged chanterelles. The chef described every element of the dishes - down to the microgreens brought in each week by a local without a phone, but with a stellar garden, apparently. The fire crackles in the kitchen, as the wood is brought in and stacked, and the chef fans the coals by hand. The wine selection- out of this world. I'm telling you...just go!

The ambiance, service and food were delightful. Depth of flavor and interesting combinations. A real gem. We are vegetarians so it's often hard to find gastronomical fare but this blew us away. The lentils were surprisingly rich and the gnocchi just light pillows. The desserts dreamy. We will be back. Well done. Share feedback

Brokaw Avocado - cold smoked avocado with tomato miso and assorted seeds. One of our favorite dishes of the night.

Absolutely fantastic experience! Exactly what I was looking for when I was here to visit. Beautifully tucked away location with great parking by the river. Four course menu was to die for. Hats off to the chef(s)! The ambiance in the dining room was lovely. Great music too! Natalia was our server. She was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. We felt very welcomed, cozy, and now I'm full with delicious food. I HIGHLY recommend

This place is so refreshing. My wife and I have been everywhere in Big Sur and payed way too much just to eat mediocre food at a great location. This place absolutely shines when it comes to the location, atmosphere, and especially ESPECIALLY the quality and care put into the food and drinks. The founders are in the restaurant putting in the work and you can tell it's an absolute passion project for them and it is reflected in every detail. I can't wait to come back. I just don't understand how this place isn't packed out the doors every night. It's really a cool experience even if you get a slice of bread and a cocktail you're guaranteed to leave happy.

Everything was wonderful! From top to bottom. We did the tasting menu and ordered a few drinks. The patio was lovely. We also had amazing service.

Phenomenal dining experience…read more Eating here is an integral experience of staying at Alila. They serve a brunch menu (for breakfast and lunch) as well as dinner. All food and non-alcoholic drinks are included with your stay (with a 1 entree limit for dinner). Over the course of our stay here, we tried the majority of the menu. Most of the food was top notch with the highlights being: *Moroccan Shakshuka - Comes out pipping hot in a mini cast iron pan. The spicy kick is infused within the eggs and peppers. Pairs perfectly with the toasted pita *Porchetta Sandwich - The pork was so rich and juicy and the crusty roll soaked up all the juices *Smoked San Marzano Bisque - The tomato flavor is very concentrated and infused with a pleasant smoke. A touch of creme makes it perfect. *Salt Spring Mussels - The fresh mussels were very tender and paired well with their spicy, smokey sausage. *La Bistecca - Medium-rare filet with roasted onions and chimichurri. Can't go wrong here. Areas for improvement: Their pizza crust is a tad thick and too floury for my taste. Their squid ink pasta is also too thick and chewy. A note about service: On the first night, I ordered their signature Marine Layer drink which has a bubble with Lavender smoke in it. Their machine malfunctioned, resulting in no smoke. I spoke to the manager about it and he personally rectified the issue for the second night and provided two complimentary drinks. This is an example of stellar service. Kudos to the staff for their commitment to a quality experience. Ambiance: The view is simply unbeatable. Ask for a table on the far edge near the water. You get a landscape view of the ocean and the adjacent hills. At sunset, the view is bathed in orange. PSA: The dinner reservations for the good times fill up rather quickly. Ask the concierge to book for you as soon as your book the hotel!

We had both dinner and breakfast here during our 2 nights stay…read more Dinner was a bit disappointing overall. Service was quite slow, took a least an hour to get our entree and the food tasted like fairly average restaurant. None of the dishes really stood out or felt particularly memorable. One thing we did appreciate was that the restaurant is very dog-friendly and even offers a menu for dogs, which was a nice touch. The outdoor seating area was also beautiful, especially during sunset, making for a great dining atmosphere. Breakfast was definitely the better meal. There was a wide variety of options to choose from, including fresh-pressed juices, and everything we tried was flavorful and enjoyable. The quality and selection were noticeably better than dinner. Overall, the meals were okay, but I expected a lot more given that this restaurant is part of a Hyatt Category 8 property. The setting and breakfast were highlights, but the dinner experience didn't quite live up to expectations.

The vibes are here but it all stops there…read more.. Let me start by saying that I love this place. Just needs a bit of cleaning up on their transparency. The 'keep it open' policy is something I appreciate but would also appreciate an itemized receipt when you close out. Here's why to keep your eye out when drinking at this establishment. 1- when you close out, it's helpful to verify what you consumed to ensure you're corrected charged. My receipt was the merchant copy and the customer copy. Itemized? Really had to ask for it. 2- the merchant copy - it asked for a tip and the total amount. When we closed out our beer and well drink, it was ~$28. Weird, right? So my thought was that they clearly charged something incorrect. 3- when there's something automatically charged, it had better be communicated to me upfront. The gratuity was automatically added and IT WAS 20%! No sign, no way to notify me that it was already added. It didn't even say so on the merchant or customer copy. On top of that, the copy asked for AN ADDITIONAL TIP. For something like that, I had better get great service. 4- The service here is spotty at best. There's usually one bartender for the often busy bar. Not a problem, usually. But with that high of a price, better serve your customers well and have a fully stocked bar. 5 - the options were lacking. Two things you'd think would be stocked but weren't - espresso (come on, even Kahlua) and apple liqueur for an espresso martini and appletini were too much to ask for, I guess. Overall, a disappointment. Good thing they have the vibes nearly right. But awful business practices.

The inside seemed pretty cramped, although pretty dim in lighting and a bit on the romantic side (although the tightness seems to diminish the mood). Service was great throughout the night - attentive, efficient, and approachable. I wish I had taken a picture of the full menu, as it was slightly different than the menu on their website. I actually think the new additions were more enjoyable than what was on the website. Also opted for the wine pairing, which was good - all wines are from California. Almost all dishes we had were great, from the shrimp hand roll addition to the starters like the tuna crudo. Second course sweet corn pasta was also a surprise as it was sweet, creamy, salty, and even slightly spicy (only a hint). Sauce was great. The complementary bread (brioche) was great with the butter. Slightly crispy outside but soft and airy on the inside. Reminded me of the bread they give at House of Prime Rib. My lamb entree was tasty, although it was 25-35$ or so extra. Very well cooked lamb, along with some sort of flavorful red pepper sauce roasted lettuce. There was also small sides of yogurt and another side with the lamb that you could use as a sauce/dip. Dessert was good but not my favorite, as it was a cherry tart. I'm more of a cake or pudding person, but the tart was still light and not too sweet with the pistachio gelato on top.

The prix-fixe menu offered wine pairing at $95, but did not list the wines paired with each course. This makes it very hard to determine if you want to order the wine paring or just order by the glass (or bottle). Finally, the occasion was our anniversary and although I indicated this on the reservation, it was not acknowleged until we told the wait staff. This is not typical of a Michelin-starred restaurant. To their credit, when I complained, we were comped the cost of the wine pairing and the 20% service fee. The food was very good. Not amazing. We have eaten in several Michelin-starred restaurants in New York, DC, Napa, and Sacramento. I'm sorry to say that Chez Noir was not up to those standards. We won't be back.
