Great selection of slices! I came here for a post-dinner dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of slices offered. We got a Detroit style slice and it was heavenly. The dough was so chewy yet crispy on the edges. The quality of the ingredients is great. It's a very small seating area so I would probably do take out here. The pizza takes a bit to heat up, but overall the service was efficient. I highly recommend! read more

Slice House by Tony Gemignani - Pizza Near Me - Castro Valley, California

I've been a Tony Gemignani fan since the Pyzano's days back in the '90s. Growing up in CV, I've missed Pyzano's dearly since it closed more than a decade ago but still enjoyed the pizza when I've visited SF. That being said, I was thrilled when it was announced that a Slice House would be opening up in the Castro Valley Marketplace! They've got a little nook in the marketplace, it is a small spot and not too much seating, so not great for big groups, but the pizza is still great! You can order online if you want to cut down your waiting time by preordering or if you walk up they have a nice selection of slices you can buy- great if you're not too hungry or want to mix and match! I love the different styles of pizzas you can get- NY style, Detroit style, Sicilian, etc. We've been a bunch of times and will continue to come back when we need a pizza fix! read more

The people were really nice and I enjoyed their wise guy pizza. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

What a find! The slices are huge! Very well seasoned. Very cool concept. You order a slice that's cooked then they run it through the pizza oven again. I had the Traditional & my wife had the Rosa. All their variety of slices are very good. The staff is extremely friendly & courteous. Highly recommend this place. read more

Good local pizza. Around 10 tables inside and they have a few slices of the day in the front you can choose from. I came around 4:30pm on a Monday and there was a line of about 6-7 people in front of me. Line moved fast and I was also able to order a slice of Detroit ("Popeye") + 12" pizza (was told 40 minutes, but the pizza was ready in about 30) The Popeye Detroit was soft and had a slight chew with crispy cheese around the sides. It was a tad salty, but it may have just been the particular toppings on the pizza. The 12" pizza itself had good flavor (hot honey). Nice crispy pepperoni and saltiness from the sausage. I will say it was slightly small (6 total slices) to share between two people - especially if you're hungry. I would like to return and try their Sicilian + other flavors for New York style. Definitely a good local pizza place! I recommend trying if you live in the immediate area. read more

This pizza is good quality. Pizza is an art form. With so many ways to create it and so many different flavors to choose from. This place tries hard and it shows. I like the crust and the sweet Gino is my kinda slab. Give it a try. read more

Gonna keep it short and sweet. It was underwhelming. Nothing special at all. The slices wasn't fresh and hot. Even with them reheating them was still like warm and a bit stale. Service was just ok had to wait for them to finish a conversation with each other to be greeted and served. The restroom needed some attention! Overall 3/10 read more

For a very long time I have known about this venue, but I have never actaully set foot in it. This was my foot time inside The Castro Valley Marketplace On bro-date with my buddy Jose to catch up on life and progress, he said we should try this place out. Immediately the wall (pictured) caught my eye. I loved drawing as a kid and those pizza boxes were up my alley. Anyways, I order just a Pepperoni slice and a Modelo. Suprised by the qaulity of the pizza, not that I thought it wouldn't be good but I also wasn't ready for it to be that good! Smacked my hunger just right. Paired with the Modelo I ordered made it just a fantastic over-all experience. Well kept but small seating area inside the establishment itself but plenty of outdoor seating is just an ear shot away. It was a quieter experience than I had believed it to be as well. read more

The pizza was great - toppings are generous and the crust itself is thin and a mix of thin and chewy. The pizza itself was huge and the slice proportions make me reminiscent of the old Pyzano's restaurant Tony used to have in CV all those years ago (I got a 20in pizza with a small condiment shaker for reference). They have many different pizza slices that you can order individually as well (that they seem to rotate throughout the week) and host a variety of deals and discounts throughout the week (primarily a weekly happy hour and a small discount for first responders). The place is located within the Castro Valley marketplace in downtown, so it's a little bit hidden if you're not already aware of its existence - the location itself is a pretty open area with a variety of other dining options you can explore while waiting for your food to get done cooking. read more

Slice House by Tony Gemignani - XL 20" Combo Americano - Pizza Near Me - Castro Valley, California

Ordered online on a Sunday evening for a family party. We ordered the XL 20" Combo Americano, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Motorhead. The pick-up process was pretty smooth and we waited about 5-10 minutes after the expected pick-up time for all three pizzas to be ready. The restaurant gave us paper plates and small bags for the parmesan cheese and red pepper packets upon request. I appreciated how there was an option for the pizzas to be double cut because the slices are quite large. We had about 12 people and had many leftovers. My favorite was the Motorhead because it basically had all of my favorite toppings on there. I thought the ricotta was a nice balance to the saltiness from other toppings. read more

Is it even worth writing a review? Everyone that knows pizza knows Tony's. Tony's makes world class Neopolitan pizza, but that does not hold up when you do it by the slice. But, most of the other styles are available here, because they *do* hold up when relatively fresh. And, I dare say, it's more consistent at this Slice House than others (and, yes, even the original), so kudos to the staff here. CV needs another quality pizzeria, but if we only have one, I'm happy that we can have (a franchise) of the king. read more

Super delish! If you are looking for slices or whole pizza, check out Slice House by Tony G! I had the Detroit style pizza and the slices are huge! Be prepared to practice your patience but believe me you will not be disappointed. There is plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. The set up is not ideal since it is a small space it can be hard to wait for your order due to high traffic, but the staff work hard and fast so the wait is not too bad. 10/10 on the pizza selection, taste and quality. Ingredients are fresh and they have a big selection of topping and options available. read more

Ordered for delivery. Got the combo Americano. Pizza was good. Big slices. Not bad. NY style. Delivery was fair time and average, about 30-40mins. I also ordered the 8 piece wings. Buffalo flavor. The wings were a bit dry and over cooked. Can see some burnt parts. I also got only 7 pieces, they shorted me one. Not enough sauce. Could have added sauce after they cooked it too cause sauce dried up. read more

Don't get how they are rated they number 1 pizza in SF. Pizza was okay but not as good as the buzz about how great this pizza is supposed to be. Probably not coming back as I found better places for pizza in Pleasanton. read more

I love to order by the slice. staff is always friendly and helpful. We consider this place to be a great stop before we shop at the market.

I have to echo the other reviews and say the pizza crust is the best crust I've had in the Bay Area. I also enjoy the dollops of ricotta on the wise guy. The meat topping and tomato sauce didn't complement the crust well for me. The meat was a bit too salty for me. Maybe I'll try another topping next time. read more

Our usual SH spot is the San Leandro location but had to try out the new CV location. Missed the opening weekend crowd which was great. This location is at the CV Market Place. There is plenty of parking in this area. What I liked about this SH location was that there was more slice options and different ones than the one that San Leandro has. Second thing, they had "weekly deals" It was still kind of crowded so grabbed a slice to go. They also have many workers there - not like the other locations but it could have to do with how busy they get We love SH so we would def come to this location again if in the area. read more

"When Excellence Implodes: A Front-Row Seat to Slice House's Public Meltdown" Let me preface this by saying my wife and I have adored Slice House for years. Their pizza is the gold standard -- a transcendent homage to the New York slice. Until tonight, I would've defended them like family. After tonight, I wouldn't trust them to organize a lemonade stand. The Castro Valley Christmas Parade brought the crowds, and with it, a stress test that Slice House failed so spectacularly it should be archived for business schools. What unfolded wasn't dinner service -- it was a crash course in organizational collapse. We ordered two pizzas through DoorDash. The app, blissfully detached from reality, said they were "ready for pickup." I arrived to find what can only be described as a human traffic jam inside a broom closet -- forty people packed in, breathing the same recycled hope. An employee glanced at my phone and said, "Not yet -- maybe eight minutes." Thirty-five minutes later, I asked again. A different employee took a photo of my order confirmation like she was building a case file, disappeared into the kitchen, and returned with the kind of statement that should come with a fainting couch: "Yeah, they haven't even started it. You might as well cancel." Then she walked away. No apology. No explanation. Just the silent confidence of someone utterly unburdened by accountability. Meanwhile, fifteen boxed pizzas sat on the counter -- clearly labeled with names and receipts -- growing cold while staff drifted around them like confused archaeologists. They didn't call a single name. Not one. You could have shouted "free pizza" and achieved more logistical order. When a customer pointed out that his pizza had been sitting there for fifteen minutes, an employee argued with him. As though the laws of time were open to negotiation. And then came the grand finale. One staffer, offended when a customer noted he was moving slowly, retaliated -- mocking the customer back and instructing his coworker to call that person's name last. It was pettiness so pure, it should be preserved under glass. Moments later, in a flourish of unearned martyrdom, he threw his hands up and declared: "I'm f***ing leaving." Reader, he did. And in that moment, for one brief, shining second, he was the most competent person in the building. What used to be a model of great food and neighborhood pride devolved into a tragicomic spectacle of ego, indifference, and chaos. The pizza still tastes like heaven. The experience tonight felt like a staff training exercise in how to set fire to goodwill. Slice House, your product remains extraordinary. But excellence isn't just what comes out of the oven -- it's how you handle the heat when things get messy. Tonight, your team didn't just drop the ball; they drop-kicked it into the street and blamed gravity. If there's ever a documentary titled "The Night the Dough Hit the Fan," I hope you at least get royalties. You've earned them. read more

We're regulars at Tony's in San Francisco and big fans of their pizza. Tried the Castro Valley location for the first time and ordered the Sweet Gino and Italian Tomato Cheese slices. The pizza itself was constructed the same way--but the reheating was way off. Staff left the slices undercooked and barely warm, making them hard and tough to chew. It felt like the team there just pushes buttons without knowing how to properly heat a slice. Management really needs to step in and train the staff. This location doesn't do justice to the Tony's brand. If SF is a 10/10, this was a 2/10. read more

Our go to spot for pizza when we are in the area! We knew that this originated from SF and has expanded to multiple locations. We liked the way that this was set up as it was inside a food court and had enough space for indoor/outdoor dining. We had our dog with us so we were able to sit outside and enjoy our food. If you're in a hurry/want a quick bite, they have ready-made slice options which they can heat up for you. I really appreciate when pizza spots have this option so that we are able to try a variety of options. For those who are baseball fans, this is also the pizza they serve at Oracle Park, so you know it's good! Super friendly staff and quick service. I will definitely be back. read more

This food is . So good that I had to cater for my whole church leadership. Definitely some of the best pizza in The Bay.

Okay this place lives up to the hype! Definitely one of the best pizza I've had in recent memory. I love how there's a variety of pizza to choose from. We opted for the combo which came with tons of veggies and meat. We got the 20" which trust me, can feed at least 4 people. Those slices were huge!!! Bigger than Costco. It took about 20-30 minutes for our pizza to be ready. Around Sunday lunchtime, most seats were taken but we were able to grab a table by the time our pizza was done. Omg they load up the pizza with tons of toppings. It was heaven biting into each one. I am a thin crust gal, but their thin crust had a bit of fluff to it... In a good way! One big slice and I was stuffed! I loved how there were soooo much toppings. The veggies and meat tasted amazing. They have Detroit style pizza too, so I'm itching to come back and try more of their flavors and style! read more

Slice House blowin' up yo! I think this is their 6th location with more to open I heard. This took over The Cannery Cafe inside the Castro Valley Market Place which is like a foodie mall with one big store and lots of little sub-vendors on the side each slinging their specialties (butcher, bakery, wine shop etc...) I've only been to the San Leandro Slice House, and I like this one better. Even tho they do have ample seating here, this one seems more geared for take-away. The lines can get long here during prime mealtimes like 10+ deep, but don't be scurred, it moves surprisingly quick. There's a huge glass case as you approach the register, showcasing pizzas of all types to get by the slice. Super easy to glance and pick, and they'll just run it through their conveyor oven for a couple of minutes, and voila a hot and melty slice under your nose in less than 5 minutes. Things tried thus far: The Rosa (3.5*) This is a Detroit style pie, thick focaccia-like crust with lots of crisp little cups of pepperoni, a thick tomato sauce laid in strips versus spread throughout the whole pie and they use a brick cheddar instead of mozzarella so the cheese has more flavor and sharpness but less creamy cheese pull. I'd kinda compare this to Square Pie Guys as this style of pizza is showing it's worth and popularity. I like SPG crust a bit more as theirs is a little more supple and soft, yet has a pronounced crisp on the bottom. And for something so thick, I don't want it be dense as well. I found the crust here to be almost too thick and bready and I wasn't loving the bottom crust, kinda chewy and sticky versus crisp and crackly. But I like the toppings here more as they load it like a regular Uhmurican place. SPG totally skimps on the toppings but loads the sauces. You will not get a bite of meat on every bite there, here you will. God bless Uhmerica! NY Combo (4.5*) They do a legit NY style crust. Super thin yet still has good chew. It will droop cuz the slice is so damn big, like as big as my head, and I got a big noggin yo. Toppings legit and balanced, a bit too cheesy for me, but that's my older ass getting nitpicky. I still like the cheese/sauce combo of Toto's Pizzeria in the West Bay better as that is my gold standard for old school pizza. But this place will get my support for the East Bay. Wise Guy (4*) This is more of a meat and cheese pie. Sausage and pepperoni with dots of soft ricotta. I got this for takeout and reheated it a couple of days later. Gotta have a good method for reheating and no a microwave does not enter the conversation. But if you know how, this slice can still rock after a good reheat. I actually make it even more crisp at home. Haven't got a whole pie from here yet, but I'm more of a fan of slices these days anyways. I don't eat pizza all too often anymore, so a nice slice every couple of months is perfect for me. And every slice is well under $8 and totally satisfies my craving. And they are crazy fast and efficient here, so gotta round up to a fiver. Fast, simple, great value and delicious...justified. read more

So happy to have a slice house in the neighborhood. It gets very packed on the weekend like no tables available but if you walk around the corner or on the second floor there is more vacant seating. They have a good system going with a wrap around line that lets you peruse the menu and ready made slices before you order. Ordering whole pizzas can take 30-60 minutes depending on how busy they are. Definitely faster to grab a single slice for them to reheat. I almost always get their NY style crust, the slices are HUGE and never soggy. We really like the pan style crust on the grandma pizza but it's always their "sweet gino" flavor that features a sweeter tomato sauce that's not really for me. My husband likes the Detroit but it is very heavy and loaded with cheese. Next time we go I'll have to try their Sicilian style crust to see if it's a happy medium. Their menu is very family friendly, there are always plain cheese and pepperoni slices for kids along with the more interesting flavors. Will definitely make this our go to pizza joint. read more

Swung through yesterday around 5:15 PM. My friend and I ordered the same beer but hers was in the larger cup and mine was in the tiny water/soda cup. Wth? I order Pizza Rock every time I'm in Vegas and always bring one home in the car or plane... Their Detroit Style pizza is so friggen good. So I was super excited to see Tony opened Slice House in the bay. Word of caution.. do not expect to move at all for the next few hours after eating..! I ordered 2 Detroit styles and these are 100% the best I've had in the bay. There's 2 things that make a really good Detroit style. The super soft, thick, airy crust and the Wisconsin brick cheese. I'm happy to say the crust and cheese are spot on. The cheese on the crust is also perfectly done. Baked until just barely before being burnt. The main downside I would say is the sauce is a bit on the sweet side but everything else is basically spot on and miles above any other Detroit style I've had in the area. Almost every place uses standard mozzarella cheese which just isn't right. Some places also have the dough too dense or not tall and pillowy. Detroit style is literally my favorite style of pizza.. and I spent an entire month only making pizzas to perfect my technique. I'm happy that I can at least order a great Detroit style now without the 3 days of prep it takes to make it at home!! read more

Thought I'd try this location since I was in this town, I'll stick to San Leandro they seem to get it right!. Ordered a thin crust small Italian sausage, pepperoni & mushroom pizza & was reassured by cashier crust would be thin like the display slices I pointed too. I checked pizza before I left & the mushrooms were chopped so small could hardly see them, so was the sausage & the crust was regular & not thin as promised so I went back & was told when you order a whole pizza's crust are made regular & some slices come thin, after the guy reassured me. I like the food, but everytime I order it's later than the ready time. Sometimes 30-40 mins later. I usually order online and purposely wait 10 mins longer before pick up. This last time I went 10 mins after promise time, it wasn't ready. After waiting another 10 mins they come out and say they have to redo the order because it was messed up. 15 mins goes by and it's ready. I get home to find out they didn't sauce the wings.
