After getting evaluated for a medically necessary diagnosis, I am currently on the books to see Dr. Mark Tasaki. I had an appointment to see him at 8am, however upon arrival, their blinds were drawn shut, no signage provided on the door that they were open for business, zero operating hours available anywhere. I thought I might have marked my calendar wrong. Checked their website, and the hours of operation indicated was 9am-4pm. Waited outside for an hour. 5 minutes before 9, walked in and a women upstairs asked for my name. She stated my appointment was at 8am. I explained my situation but they had to reschedule me. I've worked in a hospital and I know and respect their punctuality policy, so that was fine to rebook me. What made it upsetting was that their website had erroneous hours and when I brought that to her attention, she gave me a bizarre excuse. She wasn't even apologetic about anything either. She also claimed that she left me a message, but I guess it deleted itself then since I didn't get it? When I exited, I promptly rechecked their website and lo and behold, they changed the hours to reflect the correct time. I have given them a 3 star for my initial interaction, could have been a 1 star to be honest, but since I didn't meet with the doctor and had not received a full service, I won't pass immediate judgement off the face time I had with the receptionist.

I went for my first consultation today and let me tell you, they use a lot of newer high tech technology, they are extremely thorough with checking each tooth and explaining what's going on, they not only share with people verbally but also show you what they're looking at on the tv screen as well. The hygienist, Janet, was so so nice and gentle - I really loved getting to know her better. And Dr. Koga was so personable, knowledgeable, and made me feel heard which is super important to me. Because they are so thorough you do need to come in quite a few times but I will say that they'll help create a customized plan for you on how to best take care of your teeth and the maintenance that comes with it. We took the flight anyway and upon landing I randomly called a dentist, who himself recommended Dr. Kashiwada. He took us in immediately though he was otherwise booked. His care, compassion, obvious skill, and amazing follow-up, was unique in all my nearly seven decades. He is a clinician. He is an expert, on licensing boards, and it is a delight to be in his caring company. He allows you to enjoy a dental visit! We had never met him but immediately felt as though he had been our dentist for decades. He called us several times to be sure we could enjoy our time in Hawaii without concern for the tooth that he skillfully repaired and was our Guardian Angel. I moved back to Hawaii several years back and this place was recommended to me. I know I take good care of my teeth so when I got the comment after my cleaning was "wow, no cavities, that's unusual." As if they were expecting cavities. However, after that, he did tell me that my gums were in the condition of pre-gingivitis and recommended a deep cleaning. That was weird to me so as I got more intentional about flossing and I did the deep cleaning procedure. However, after that one session, he recommended another deep cleaning just a month or so after. It already cost me several hundred dollars because my insurance didn't cover a portion of it. I don't know how often you're supposed to get a deep cleaning but that all didn't settle right with me. I decided to go to another dentist, the one from my youth, for a second opinion, and let her examine my teeth & gums. I didn't tell her anything about pre-gingivitis or my previous exam. She told me my teeth and gums were normal! I then asked her if it may have been because I got a deep cleaning. And she said no, that wouldn't have helped the condition of my gums. She said there are a lot of dentists out there recommending unnecessary deep cleanings and root canals for the additional money. These procedures require some sort of additional anesthesia or additional numbing drugs that rack up the bill. It was crazy to be made aware of such business practices that are not in the best interest of the patient. The staff of this place is quite friendly which is why I'm not giving them one star. I did notice they were pretty persistent in calling me for my next deep cleaning appointment, too. I never mean to bash a small business but this was my experience and I thought it should be shared in case it could help someone else. Especially if they feel something is not right in their gut or if recommendations from a dentist don't sit well.

I reached out to my dentist and as advised, made a follow up appointment with the endodontist. It was before the New Year's and understand the challenges of scheduling appointments during the holidays but was able to secure an appointment with Dr. Howard Kang at their Aiea office within the first week of January. Located of the 1F of Westridge Shopping Center in Aiea, this is one of the four Hawaii Endodontics LLC (HE) offices. The other 3 are located in Kailua, Kapolei and in Honolulu (Hale Pawaa). I arrived just before my scheduled appointment where the female receptionist checked me in. She was friendly and made me feel at ease which was much appreciated when I've been concerned about my tooth with uncertainty. I didn't sit down more than 5 minutes before the dental assistant called my name and escorted me to an examination room. This assistant is a seasoned staff where not only professionally, she engaged conversation personally and made me feel comfortable. She commented on my Trader Joe's mini tote bag and how she was gifted one but ended up giving it away to her relative who really adored them. Shortly after, Dr. Howard Kang came into the room to assess my condition. He commented on how my lip healed nicely and proceeded to conduct several tests to determine my teeth condition. To our delight my teeth responded well by not experiencing any pain. I advised Dr. Kang that it's just a little sensitive which is natural after the trauma I experienced. I'm to allow more time for the tooth to settle and heal. My next follow up appointment is in 6 months with Dr. Kang. For the time being I'm advised to avoid using that tooth to chew and to allow more time to settle and heal. Before I saw Dr. Yew I suffered with severe jaw pain, migraines, light sensitivity, and ringing in my ears. Within a short time of receiving botox, I noticed a significant reduction in my jaw pain and most importantly it made all my tension headaches go away.
