Our claim began on Monday, Feb 6th 2023. We had a leak coming in from our laundry room and it took us about a week to see if this was an insurance or home warranty issue, but when we found out this would be an insurance claim we contacted my ex husband who referred Alex with Slate. We called him on March 15th, he came out on the 17th and let us know the steps and process of what to do. He said to call our insurance (State Farm), assured us that they do a lot of work together and to make a claim. He said to tell State Farm we are working with a restoration company (Slate) and to start the claim. Alex did not give us a quote at this time but wanted us to process the claim in which we did. When that was done he started planning on his equipment arriving and getting the job started. Since she had told us that State Farm is a tricker insurance where he has seen claims like this get approved but also has seen claims like this get denied, we were VERY hesitant to start work and voiced our concern. We also told him we do not feel comfortable starting this process without the approval many times but he assured us by saying "Don't worry, I wouldn't accept this job if I thought it'd be denied" "It's okay, that we don't have the approval because if we don't, it's my job to get the approval because that is how we get paid." Our trust in him got our better judgment and we signed the papers to start work without getting a number estimate but again we have voiced that we want to stop at the threshold of our insurance deductible at $2500 because without approval we did not want to come out of pocket that much. We made it very clear financially we will not be able to go above that as well as move forward without being approved by insurance. Again, he was reassuring us that there is no way that this could be denied. (Texts messages attached of us asking for estimates and saying we need to stay with our deductible threshold) When the crew came on the 20th and started to pack up we had a conversation with the team because they were telling us how they would have to put plastic tarps up, cut out the cabinets (in the areas where the leak was not at.) I could only say "okay" cause I do not know what is right and wrong, what is wet and needs to be dried, I can only trust the company we hired. But when Thomas heard all of this, once again he questioned "why do you need to pull out all these cabinets? The leak is now there? What do you need to cut out the drywall that far? Why do you need to hang up tarps? That will be an additional cost." Which again, at this time Alex and his crew mentioned that they needed to test for asbestos, that they testing would be to our cost. I said, "okay but if it is hot for asbestos, would that make this claim more expensive? Because again, we have not gotten approval and if what is done so far is MORE than $2500 if it is hot for asbestos how much would that add on?" Alex said, "If it's hot for asbestos that will probably be an addition $1500" I then reminded and asked him again, "Okay Alex, remember we do not want to go over our $2500 if we are not approved yet. What are we at right now, cause if we are hot for asbestos and that adds $1500 we are already really close to our deductible. Shouldn't we stop until we get approved so Thomas will not be upset with the total?" Once again, "no, no Michele I am confident we can get this covered" Well, they ended up gutting our kitchen, ripping out the cabinets and ruining them that we can not put them back together, they told us no matter what they would do everything in the least invasive way possible because they needed to take pictures for the insurance company but again with the confidence that they would get this covered explained to us,"it's okay if they are damaged because if the insurance can not find a comparable match to what you have they will need to replace not only the cabinets pulled out but replace the entire kitchen." They did a good job setting up and removing fans and dehumidifiers. If that is all you want, they can do that. Did not do any treatment of my damaged areas. Did not do any repairs. The rep who came to my home knew nothing about anything. No referrals. No recommendations. Nothing. And they charged me 1.5 times what other mitigation companies charge. I got their proposals too late and being pressured, hired Slate. VERY money-oriented company. They wanted their final payment BEFORE they finished the job or removed their equipment and they already had half before they did anything. If you want to really save money, go to Home Depot and rent blowers and dehumidifiers (they can deliver them to you). Or hire another company who will charge less and be able to refer you to others who can do the repairs. The name of this company is wrong. They do NOT restore things--restoration means you repair something to bring it back to its original condition. These guys merely set up fans and remove debris. They do NOT restore anything except restore their wealth by charging you much more than others. read more

We had a leak from our attic air conditioner/humidifier that caused significant damage to our upstairs hallway, bedroom and bathroom. Slate was referred to us by our Insurance Agent. They responded to our call immediately by phone and Nicholas came to the house. We had an estimate done by another company, but immediately were impressed by how thorough Nicholas detailed what and how removal of damaged areas would need to occur. He took measurements and the next morning we had an estimate. Nicholas himself came and expertly taped off all damaged areas and did the messy removal with his assistant. They used a dustless removal system and placed drying fans throughout the area. They also cleaned the areas completely and left all the plastic curtains up to assist the company that would do the repairs. His careful work meant our house did not show the dust of a big project. During the drying process we had a question over the weekend and Nicholas again answered immediately. A few days later, after the drying process was done, Glen came out to do a final inspection and remove the equipment. Our home was water damaged when a cleaning lady accidentally dropped a heavy bottle on our water pipe going to our toilet in the bathroom, breaking it before the water shut off valve. Water everywhere on our second floor in addition to water penetrating through our ceiling to the main floor. I did so much research before hiring a company to restore my kitchen after insurance denied the claim for a burst pipe that had been leaking in my wall. I landed on this company because of all the positive reviews. There were red flags from day 2. They use people that they admit, "aren't the best..." This job should have been completed in 3 days. I was forgotten about for a month and ignored when I reached out multiple times... the response I got was, "yeah I have definitely been putting this off..." it's unreal to me. My house has been plagued by funky smells in warm weather; after ruling out a few obvious sources, my mind went to mold. I called a few companies, all of which deployed some pretty severe scare tactics (and hefty price tags just to come out)! They were referred to me by Foremost Insurance to do repairs on my grandmothers mobile home. They arrived on time (5/21/18) and proceeded to access the damages. The tech, Justin, told me that they could do the repairs. He said that he would work with the insurance company to file the claim, that would be on less step I would need to deal with. He said he'd send over the estimate and I could decide what to do then. May 25th I called him at 9:58 am and got a text that he was on the phone. I emailed him and asked where the estimate was. I received nothing in return. No call. No estimate. It is now June 28, 2018. I have received NOTHING! Pretty disappointed to say the least. Excellent experience with this company. They were scheduled to be here between 8 AM and 9 AM. At 8:01 Nick with slate was at my door. He was in a nice clean pick up truck with the company logo on the door. Nick was neat clean and had a smile on his face. In May a pipe in our wall burst and created damage. Slate restoration was contacted to repair damage in both my neighbors and my home. I'm writing this review in August and my home is still not done. The damage was isolated to One wall in the bedroom and master bath. Today, I sent four text messages to Slate to state that the conclusion of our work must occur by Friday. The texts have remained unanswered. Job desertion.!!! Paint spatter,plaster texture overspray was on everything, Light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, even on the underside of the countertop. No prepping of space prior to demo or reconstruction. When the air conditioner comes on dust is visible coming from the vents. Switch plates and sockets were covered with plaster. Paint at the top of the wall does not match the repainting because they didn't cover it. I have a new renter coming on Saturday. I am forced to pay someone else to come in and clean up and finish detailing the home. I've taken photos of white can be easily seen by a camera. However, texturing of the repaired wall is poor. Plaster debris was scattered throughout our gravel courtyard. Garage has been left with tile used for repairs out along with some laminate that was used for the cabinetry. Just very sloppy and inconsiderate. Dust is on everything in the house. Do not use this company. Had Slate bothered to return my communication I would have shared all of these details in privacy to them. Since they have chosen not to follow up, I am sharing these issues with you-potential consumers. Beware, research who you choose for your home repairs. This business is not professional. If I could have given them zero stars I would have. Furniture and pictures of all been left in the bedroom with a tarp covering them floor is filthy.
