Awesome. I'm super-picky about jeans. I dislike a lot of the major brands and find retail stores generally impossible to deal with. I headed to Slash after getting tired of searching for jeans at thrift stores. They immediately asked if I needed help. I showed them my current jeans and gave them a few notes on what I wanted different. The first pair they selected looked bad, and they agreed. The second pair were awesome, just what I've been looking for. I bought 3! The prices for jeans are as expected for new, nice jeans. The shirt I also picked up was a little expensive, so you might want to stick to jeans. Seriously, so nice to be in and out in 30 minutes with 3 jeans I actually like! I will definitely be back. read more

Great cloth, rude assistance, including the management, I was down the stairs the assistant asked me to go upstairs check the price with the manager, went upstairs the manager asked me to go down the stairs to ask the price, MESS! Still upstairs the two working there, including the manager, made me feel bad for touching clothes that was not for sale, also MADE me feel bad for taking a picture with no permission (I didn't even know that, couldn't they be polite?), when I apologized I heard "just ask" in a very rude way, seconds later asked me were I was visiting from, in a very "You don't belong here" tone, I live part time in Berkeley and I felt really bad and mistreated for that situation so I left the Store, I'm coming back cause I like the clothes, but I really expect someone to take some action against this horrible behavior these employees are having! I just bought a pair of jeans from this place today after looking at all the good reviews about it on yelp and yes the people there were lovely they asked if I needed help multiple times and when I finally agreed they were more then happy to assist me and I ended up finding a great pair of jeans. Also the place was pretty well organized and clean for them having so many jeans in such a tiny shop. I must say it's really cute. But ok I came home today and decided to look up the brand I just bought since I liked them and I found the same pair of jeans online and at nordstroms for $30 less... Yeah so the pricing is sorta ehhh. But yeah the people were so friendly and helpful I couldn't bring myself to giving this place less stars. read more

This may be the friendliest consignment store I've ever been to--workers here are super helpful and will go great lengths to help you find good clothes without being pushy. The newer store facing College is great, but there's something about the hole-in-the-wall original location that is super charming. Most of the clothing is devoted to the female sex, but guys also have their share, especially in jeans at the original location. Note: ask the mystical jeans lady for help on fits. She's super duper knowledgeable! She also dyes her own t-shirts for sale, which I find really unique. read more

My favorite tee is one I found here..and where else would I go in the east bay for stylin' jeans? From old school 501's and an atmosphere that reminds me of the markets of my childhood in Korea to the glammed up high end store upstairs, they've got something that will do my behind justice. I also really like stores with this kind of service: you can go in and tell them you need X (jeans) and that you think you wear size Y (the last pair you had that fit you) and they will pull styles and cuts after asking you a few questions and throw you in a room until you find the perfect pair. read more

Short version: if you want denim that fits, go here. Super helpful, knowledgeable, and not pushy. Friendly and knowledgable staff picked out like 8 pair, and was recommended to one of the cheaper pairs. I normally take a couple years to find a pair of jeans that really fit well (I have large thighs/seat from weightlifting but thin waste), took 20 minutes here. read more

Don't listen to what these soft skinned negative reviewers say... they have tons of awesome denim, plus tees, Pendletons, etc. Only problem I have is that I don't live close by anymore! read more

Thank you, Yelp. And thank you, Slash. I actually enjoyed buying jeans. Jeans which are in fact, flattering. Worth every dang penny. read more

The two women who work here are fantastic. They really provide a personal touch. I first came here after seeing other Yelp reviews. I was tired of picking up Levis from Macy's that sort of fit, but didn't quite. I needed a sort of consultation to pick out jeans that would be really flattering. And that's exactly what I got. The two women who work here will first try to understand exactly what your needs are. What colors do you want? What washes do you want? What sort of fit do you like? How much are you willing to spend? They'll then whisk off and come back with 5 or 6 pairs of jeans for you to try on. The times I've gone there, the store hasn't been terribly busy, so they can help evaluate your look when you come out of the dressing room. They have jeans from all over the world, and often times, things are on great sales. Great! read more

My friend and I came to try on vintage jeans and we were immediately bombarded with a pile of jeans. I felt really uncomfortable because I wanted to peruse peacefully. My friend and I thought the jeans were too overpriced so we left. The older lady that works there was a bit hostile when we decided to leave and not buy anything. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

I used to really love this place but the service has gotten consistently worst over the years. Pre-pandemic I went ofter despite the really rude customer service. It's honestly always been rude but this store is one of the best places to get jeans. The product is solid but the team is not. Sometimes I've gotten an okay employee but they're rude more often than not. Usually when I walk In they actually look surprised that I'm there. The store always gives "we're closed" vibes and It seems as if the employees can't wait to get you out of there. I always try to be supportive of small business within the bay, even promoting the store to my followers but I can no longer support. I'm not sure if it's racism or another form of discrimination but I feel and am treated in an unwanted manner by these people consistently. I thought I would be a loyal customer for longer but today has done It. It's unfortunate because i have no idea where to buy jeans like this in Berkeley but I grit my teeth every time I come here with how RUDE they are. It feels weird to give them $80-$100 per pair and not even enjoy the experience. read more

Wonderful experience today. Needed new jeans and am grateful I could shop somewhere by appointment, which meant I was the only one in the upstairs store. Marissa was terrific. A few things had been pulled ahead of time and she quickly narrowed down what fit right and what didn't. Within 30 minutes she had helped me find two fantastic pairs. Grateful to have been able to shop local in the neighborhood at a small store with great product. I'll definitely be back. read more

I got a serious case of claustrophobia in the lower store. Even 2 or 3 people in the store means giving up any of your personal boundaries. I literally had to walk on top of piles of clothes to try on a pair of jeans (that cost about $78). I had to wonder if I wanted to pay that kind of money for clothes people were stepping on. Probably a great place if you really know your jeans and exactly what you want. Not a great experience for a casual thrift browser looking to get in and out with some decent cheap clothes. read more

The selection at Slash trumps all others this is true, but it is not just the variety that makes Slash standout from the rest--it is the people. I have been on the hunt for black jeans for the better part of 3+ years with ZERO success and today I went into Slash for this sole purpose and walked out with two pairs that were both flattering and affordable! Normally I like to have all control when entering a store and trying clothes on, but for the first time ever I relented and fully gave myself to the friendly saleswoman that greeted me the minute I walked up the stairs. I told her what I was looking for and she gave me an arsenal of jeans to suit my parameters. Shortly thereafter another saleswoman emerged and between the two of them they gave me honest opinions and ultimately helped me walk away with exactly what I was looking for. The people that run Slash make it the only place you will ever want to go for pants and cool vintage wear, and is worth every minute of the journey it takes you to get there. read more

(Let me preface this by saying this review is of the original Slash that is right around the corner from Slash Clothing). Here's the thing that I love about Slash: the towers of Levis in excellent condition that don't stink like a musty bottom. The other main selling point is the owner, who perhaps knows her inventory better than any shop owner I've encountered. To me, the layered columns of jeans are chaotic and inapproachable; I think special powers are required to make sense of the organizational system, but it works for her, and I find this impressive. Within 60 seconds, she'll have a stack for you of the jeans you wanted in the correct size and wash, all of which are an affordable price. And then there is the joy of the stairway/dressing room, or if that is occupied, of changing behind a couple of those piles of pants and giving a few other customers a cheap thrill. Sigh. The perfect way to spend a Saturday. Who knew stacks of used and sample jeans could provide such entertainment? read more

I'm used to plopping down 30 bucks for new jeans once a year at Ye Olde Navy, so this place was a bit of a culture shock for me. Why on earth would anyone willingly subject themselves to the torture that is finding nice affordable jeans that fit? Turns out it doesn't have to be so bad, and can even be fun. When you first enter the jeans dungeon downstairs, you're greeted with a small cramped room with stacks of jeans from floor to ceiling seemingly haphazardly organized and strewn about. However, you quickly realize that you are in the hands of a jeans master. The woman looked me up and down, guessed my size, and asked me a few questions about what I was interested in. "Umm.. something dark that makes my butt look good that isn't skinny legged?" Before I knew it she was pulling jeans out left and right from the different piles and spewing all kinds of jean jargon I had been previously unfamiliar with. Also she was convinced that I should try man jeans (I was way skeptical on that one!) and that really, really tight was ok because they would stretch out. After I would parade my latest pair in front of her, her eagle eye was quick to spot the pros and cons and it was back to the piles to find the perfect pairs. For those complaining about the mess and less than fancy atmosphere, I don't remember anyone telling Einstein "oh hey great work on that theory of relativity thing, but please clean your desk because you're a disgrace to physics with all that paper clutter." When geniuses are afoot, you let them roam free in the environment best suited to their talents! If I leave satisfied with really good purchases, who cares whether I had to step over jeans on the floor? I ended up walking out with two pairs, feeling like a superstar. Well the superstar of the jean dungeon. Now several weeks later I can confirm that yes, bootylicious girls can wear man jeans and yes, they do stretch out with just a few wears. I've never looked better in jeans and I can't wait to go back for more! read more

I love this place, I came in and found my favorite pair of jeans in two minutes flat! It's a small store but is packed with great finds. If you want quality vintage denim come to slash, good prices too. read more

This place is dope but I give it 4 stars because of the prices. I found this small shop from yelping "thrift stores" because I was on the hunt for an oversized denim jacket and this was DEFINITELY the place to find denim, but notttt for "thrift" prices. they have a huge selection of Levi's and other good denim brand jackets. I ended up getting (and loving) one for $75. My saintly boyfriend was kind enough to pay the price for it even though it was clearly used, washed and beat up a bit. They also have TONS of pants. It's a really small shop and inside are hundreds of denim jeans for men and women. The gals that work there will help you lots if you know what you're looking for. They have some really nice and good quality denim (though yes, USED denim), just be ready with the $$$$ Last note, no parking lot. Street parking only.. bf and I paid at a meter down the street. Good luck and happy shopping! read more

If you have a big butt, or are a size 14 or 16, or god forbid, a plus size, save yourself the humiliation. The largest size they have is a 32 inch, about a 12 for women. They weren't unkind, but they were obviously surprised to see someone like me. I asked about men's jeans fitting me, but after I stood there expectantly for a moment, and they made no move to the men's stack, I left. On the good side, if you are a tiny assed person, this is your place. read more

let me preface this review by stating the following: i hate trying on jeans. unfortunately for me, 90% of my life outside of work is spent in denim, which means i have to keep up with current style, fit, etc. i've been bumming around in a black pair of old navy jeans that are too big for the past few months because recently i've gone up a few sizes and none of my favorite Kasil jeans fit me anymore. needless to say i decided something had to be done and fast. i've been to slash before, but only to look. upon entering the store a woman asked me if she could help me. i wasn't gonna beat around the bush so my reply was this: "I need jeans, as you can see from the pair i'm wearing. i'm only trying on 3 pairs." apparently she wasn't messing around either because she replied: "ok so you're a size 27? (she was right on the money)...what style...boot cut, skinny...high rise, low...wash, color?" i blurted out each answer in sequence and she swiftly pulled 4 (i said only 3!) pairs from the racks and sent me to the dressing room. 2 of the 4 were perfect. i bought one due to budget and changed into them in the car. i was in and out in less than 15 minutes. thanks, slash! read more

I had a great experience in downstairs vintage part of the store. Found just what I wanted and then some. I have to appreciate a store that really knows their merchandise. It was really busy when I was there too. Nothing but thanks to the exceptionally helpful staff. read more

One would imagine I'm insane for hating this place that seems to be so loved on Yelp. That said, Slash is entirely overrated in my opinion. I could over look the cramped basement location and fairly high prices, but I'm not willing to overlook the pushy salesperson and no-return policy. The lady who works there acts annoyed that there are customers in the store, as if this is an inconvenience to her, and is so hyper and pushy that the shopping experience becomes stressful and confusing. In the end, when unable to return (one day later) a hideous pair of jeans that I'd been hassled into buying, I ended up with another slightly more expensive pair of ill fitting jeans instead of a refund. I would actually prefer to shop at Mervyn's than Slash. A few key points: (1) Your attitude sucks. It doesn't make you cool, it just makes you annoying. (2) Your selection isn't that large. It is just packed into a small room. (3) Not allowing people to return an unworn, recent purchase is ridiculous. (4) Don't tell me that they don't make the kind of jeans I'm wearing and so therefore I cannot buy another pair. I am WEARING them. That's how I know they exist. (5) If you say "fashion" one more time, I will cram a pair of jeans down your throat. read more

I bought two pairs of jeans and returned one. I was given a business card with my refund amount written. Somehow, I misplaced the business card and Slash Clothing does not keep any written records of returns, so they keep your money even if you return the product. read more

to be able to walk in to a place as apparently unorganized as slash, you're surprised that the amazing employees can pick out a specific pair of jeans from a teetering stack and know exactly what it is that you're looking for. not only do these women (i haven't ever seen a male employee, so i'm not trying to be sexist here) know their denim, but they know you, too. it's like they're all denim psychics. and, even better than that, the jeans are priced at almost half their marked cost. i walked out with three pairs of jeans and two hoodies for a little over $200 and one of those pairs was marked at $178. slash carries cheap monday, levis, and a couple of other brands. they have more than denim here, though, with some custom created items of their own like hoodies that take fitted sizes into consideration. i would definitely recommend slash to anyone in the market for new jeans. there's no need to pay department store marked-up prices any longer. read more

This is my go-to place to find vintage jeans and shorts. I love how quaint it is, and how helpful everyone is. I always walk out of there with exactly what I want within 30 minutes. I will disclaim I'm 5'5" a pretty "standard" size white lady age 25 thick thighs and booty but pretty small around - I get 535-550. I've purchased black high waisted vintage jeans (they had one the was black black and one washed that fit), light blue high waisted vintage jeans, light blue distressed high waisted jean shorts, and a 70s jeans jacket with the warm puffy stuff on the inside for the winter. I would have gotten a soon to be favorite jeans jacket from them if I had found the place earlier. I do enjoy the younger staff more as they know more about what's in style, however everyone is sweet and helpful. The staff knows a lot about jeans and Levi's and the different eras of the selection they have there. Vintage starts at $75 and new Levi's upstairs start at $68, so sure it's a lot of money, but relatively if you were to be buying new jeans at a normal department store they could easily be hundreds of dollars and this place is not that. So I love it. I know I'm getting what I pay for and celebrate the solid finds. I've told all of my friends about it and show people this cute little spot often. I also got my favorite sunglasses up stairs! There's and upstairs and and downstairs. If you go to either and tell them what you're looking for exactly they'll tell you where to go! read more

Had a great first experience at Slash denim. A woman named Marisa was working the floor and was super helpful. She sized up my fit and style right away and found a couple of pairs of Levi's that were just right. She was friendly and helpful and didn't give me the hard sell, which I appreciated. This is now my go-to place for jeans. read more

Great selection of Levi's, both vintage and new repros. They carry my favorite t-shirt brand, Robert P. Miller, too!! Prices are decent, but not great. $50 for a pair of almost worn out Levi's Sta-press. Granted, they are hard to find, but I bet if I keep searching, I can find a pair at a garage sale for $2. Still, this is a great store with A LOT OF JEANS!! read more

I'm not a hip mom. But now I look like one. The saleswoman is super knowledgeable. She knows the manufacturers, knows about fabrics, dyes, washes. sizing, styling. She'll stick with you and recommend jeans to try. She's got a good eye and good sense. Plus it's FUN to shop there. read more

What's there to say about Slash that hasn't been said? I made my way in with a slightly dazed look on my face, and was asked if I needed help. This is one of the only places that I buy jeans, period. Whether you go downstairs for some vintage levi's or upstairs for some LTBs, Cheap Mondays or Kill City jeans, the staff can somehow take a look at you and know exactly what will fit and what will look good on you. I'm a typical dude. I hate shopping, but buying jeans online is a real suckfest. Customer service is tops and the prices are competitive. Not to mention they have accessories like wallets, locally designed t shirts, belts and necklaces. I have never left this store unsatisfied and I doubt you will either! read more

The upstairs part of Slash, reached from College Street up some stairs, offers a poor customer experience. Very unwelcoming vibe, and condescending salespeople. I felt so unwelcome and was glared at while I looked around so I got out before checking out any of the merchandise. Stick to the downstairs. I hope that wonderful older woman still works there. read more

So I came here off of a recommendation from a friend and was a bit overwhelmed when I walked in and saw towers of jeans. I didn't really know what I wanted besides a replacement pair of "go to" pants that'll last me a couple of years. The associate Marie Clare asked my size and within seconds returned with about 4 or 5 different articles for me to try on. I tried everything on because why not, I didn't have much to do that day. Ended up finding two great pairs of Levi's that I'm sure will last me a very long time, last pair lasted me about 9 years before I stepped in them and my toe caught a tiny hole, and you can pretty much guess what happened next so let's have a brief moment of silence for those great pants......... But all in all I was very satisfied with my purchase and might have to go back soon because I think my friends are starting to notice I've been wearing the same pants for 3 days now. read more

I'm a straight up and down kinda girl (not a lot of curve) and this place is a haven for the long backed nation. Yes, my friends have ridiculed me for wearing 120 dollar jeans to which I reply, "how much did you pay for those sneakers?" It's all relative people. First time I came here, I was a little skeptical, I thought the sizes they handed me were too small. But they said the jeans would stretch and they did and they're perfect. Nothing like the feeling of a new pair of jeans...I digress. The reason I'm giving them four stars is: in spite of their amazing jean selection and the skill of the sales people, the vibe in here is a little too cool for school and nonchalant in a "You can't sit with us" kind of way. No big D, I'll definitely continue buying jeans here but I can see how it's off putting. read more
